A little fragment from a future chapter of

Fear in a Handful of Dust

Veryn coughed, the fine particles clogging his nose, mouth and eyes despite the mask. He tasted sulphur on his tongue, and the air reeked stale and musty.

I am older than music, the wind whispered as he scrambled to his feet, panic surging through his veins, yet he couldn’t take off the mask to drink a potion.

He couldn’t see. He could barely breathe.

What I bring is light.

His fingers tingled, twitching as he tried to make the Sign of Recall, and the spell fizzled out.

Giving up already?

Gods, if he went back to Sadrith Mora like this they’d laugh him away. Worse still, they might pity him: the mage who couldn’t hold his own on Vvardenfell.

What I bring is a star.

Who couldn’t hold his own against the whispers of an ancient god that should, by all rights, be dead.

Next to him, the pack guar snorted, butting it’s head against his coat. Guar were remarkably hardy, able to survive a storm like this far easier than their riders, tough and stubborn like Cyrodilic donkeys.

What I bring is an ancient sea.

The skin-brain axis is of emerging interest in the field of neurodevelopment and has prompted discussion asot whether atopic eczema's link with ASd may be unique from that of non-cutaneous atopic conditions. For instance, from 3 to 4 post-conception weeks, the brain, skin and skin appendages develop in syncrhonisation in utero, all originating from one of three primary germ layers, the ectoderm. Accordingly, whilst the neuroectoderm differentiates to form early derivatives of the brain, such as the neural tube, the ventral ectoderm develops into a monolayer epidermis. It, therefore, seems plausible that atopic eczema may be uniquely associated with neurodevelopmental outcomes relative to non-cutaneous atopic disorders.

How Concerned Citizens Drove a Neo-Nazi Out of Rural Maine

Christopher Pohlhaus planned to build a fascist training compound in the woods of rural Maine. The local journalists, veterans, lumberjacks, and policymakers weren't having it.

Pohlhaus, 37, is a former U.S. marine, an itinerant tattoo artist, and a hardcore white-supremacist influencer. He is loud and hostile, and proud to be both. His voice is pitched surprisingly high, and he has a slight Southern drawl. He has a large body and small bald head; a blue-black tattoo crawls up the right side of his face, from his chin to his forehead. Over the years, Pohlhaus has collected thousands of social media followers, who know him by his nickname: Hammer.

Hammer had been living in Texas for a few years when, in March 2022, he bought the land in Maine. He told his followers that he was going to use it to build a haven, operational center, and training ground for white supremacists.
