¿Quién diría que un simple mensaje podría hacer despertar tanto recuerdo? Era octubre del 2013 en la hermosa San Miguel de Tucumán. En ese momento estaba contento de haber terminado mi angustia pasajera, había presentado mi primera ponencia de Historia. Esa ponencia explicaba brevemente el que iba a ser mi tema de tesis, la investigación que seguramente me tomaría 5 años de mi vida. Quería sacarme la tensión, disfrutar de la vida, y decidí acercarme a una mesa en particular de aquel local de hamburguesas en el que estaba con mi amigo Rafael. Mi objetivo era aquella hermosa chica, ella era una hermosa rubia de labios gruesos. Tenía unos ojos pequeños que dejaban ver una mirada triste, tenía la tez blanca y lucía un hermoso flequillo. Estaba decidida a no prestarme atención, y lo sabía.

- Hola - le dije, sabía muy bien las palabras que debía decir- disculpa que te moleste, pero hace 20 minutos que te vi y tenía que decirte que tenés la nariz más linda que vi.

Decir que esa risa fue la magia de los rocanroles sería una frase robada que no te haría justicia. Siempre recordaré su nombre. "Paulita" me preguntó de donde era y de a poco la comence a conocer. Iba a ser una futura arquitecta. Le pedí consejos de que hacer allí y me dijo que tenía 3 días libres. Qué ella pensaba ir a Tafi del valle y, de la nada, surgió las más hermosas palabras "¿Queres venir conmigo?". La invitación era una locura pero accedí. El viaje en aquél sendero sinuoso por la montaña me dio vértigo ¿cómo no iba a darlo? Pero a su lado era imposible no cruzarlo. Había pocas cosas que me hicieran sentirme tan seguro. Al charlar con ella fue que conocí a alguien de familia peronista, que tenía unos valores que lucharía por ellos hasta el último de sus alientos. Una aventurera. Ella le gustaba mi voz, le gustó cuando tarareé sin querer " Spaghetti del rock". Recuerdo con cariño ese deseo de ella "¿Me cantas algo por favor?". Tuve que hacerme el fuerte para resistir un poco, no debía aceptar de inmediato. Le canté suave al oído la primera canción que recordé:

Yo la vi, sin querer, buscaba alguna mujer.

Que fuera el viento, fuera el viento en mi sien.

Y la vi ¿qué iba a hacer? Una hermosa lucifer.

Robó mi tiempo, mi pensamiento y mi fe.

Hacía mucho que había dejado a mi segunda novia y todavía dolía volver a creer. Paulita me abrazaba como no abrazaba nadie, con un calor y ternura que hacía tanto no sentía. Me acompañó por una ciudad anclada en el siglo XVII, y en un modesto hotel fuimos a parar. El audio que recibí este fin de semana del 2023 me trajo recuerdos de 10 años atrás. Diez años después el tiempo vuelve a empezar. De ti aprendí que amaba que me lamieran el oído. De nuestra locura de tres días aprendí que capaz el destino al fin era mi amigo. Nunca encontré a alguien que se te compare. Ni en belleza, ni en locura, ni en lo feliz que me hiciste. Fue muy triste saber que lo nuestro iba a durar solo esos tres días. Ni ella iba a dejar su vida ni yo la mía. Ambos continuamos aunque nos hablábamos cada tanto. Amagábamos a volver a vernos. Yo amenazaba de irme allí, tú conque este verano si venías a Buenos Aires. Capaz el agua no cruza dos veces el mismo río o capaz el cause no era el mismo. Hoy volví a escuchar ese audio con esa tonada que me enloqueció la primera vez. Recordé cuando lloraste dormida en mi pecho. Recuerdo el primer porro que fumé en mi vida y fue a tu lado. Te agradezco este recuerdo que me hizo saber que nada está perdido.

Dance Like You Want To Win (Final Rose)

“That poor bastard,” Taren muttered.

“Meh.” Alyssa waved one hand. “He had it coming.”

Fraise was silent although the mirth in her gaze was obvious.

In front of them, Ice had made the big, big, big mistake of challenging Fury to the newest dancing video game.

That wasn’t to say that Ice was bad at it. On the contrary, Ice was probably better at the game than his two cousins and his twin sister. However, he was up against Fury.

Challenging a chocobo to what was essentially a battle of footwork was not a good idea, especially a chocobo who took training and improvement as seriously as Fury did.

Fury was spending the entire time with one eye on the screen and one eye locked onto Ice in a baleful glare as each move he made was greeted with a flashing ‘PERFECT’ on the screen.

As the game finished, Fury stepped away and smirked.

Victory was his.

Ice fell to his knees in despair.

Author’s Notes

Chocobos have amazing footwork. In fact, showing off their footwork is one part of how chocobos impress prospective mates.

Fun Fact #1: Incidentally, Lightning and Fang are banned from playing dancing games in arcades due to the time they tried to kill each other after the game declared their match a tie. Snow and Caius are both very good at dancing games, and Snow is secretly super awesome at claw games (it comes from manipulating the limbs of his blue giant when he summon them without the rest of the body).

Fun Fact #2: Team RWBY is actually really, really good at dancing games like this. Yang is amazing (and always draws a crowd), Ruby and Weiss both have exceptional footwork, and Blake is great too. In a death match, the team would probably send Weiss out since her musical sense combined with her dancing ability and footwork makes her the best.

Fun fact #3: Trajan doesn’t particularly like dancing games, but his ghost cat loves them. As a result, it’s not uncommon to see Trajan playing on one side with his ghost cat playing on the other side. Luckily for the cat, Trajan can make him solid enough to play.

Fun fact #4: Jaune enjoys dancing games, which Pyrrha is delighted to discover. She makes a point of taking them to an arcade whenever she has the chance. Nora is currently banned from hammer games for putting a hole through the floor.

Fun Fact #5: Raven is the best in Team STRQ at dancing games, but getting her to play is really hard. Qrow is the defending ‘super drunk dancing’ champion due to his ability to dance decently while massively inebriated. Summer is hilariously bad at the game when she’s drunk. Taiyang is very good at dancing games and was actually the one who introduced them to Yang and Ruby.

As a final aside, Fury is one of the only animals who is good at dancing games. Strangles doesn’t have feet. Sally’s body geometry is ill-suited for it. Mako is a tortoise who can’t actually do what the games ask him to. Fluffy is too small. Chomp gives it a good try but isn’t very good. Zahn is too big. The hamsters are all too small as well. The mistral giant jungle rats are the wrong shape. Sir Hedgington doesn’t have the size for it either.

Yeah. Dancing games are tough if you’re not a chocobo.

Tafi enjoys it somewhat and is adept at surviving in the wild primarily thanks to her father but is often better in the cities. She's always been a street urchin and even in new cities tends to find out how to navigate it pretty quickly and where to look for trouble. If it comes down to outrunning someone in a city though, you most likely won't catch her, she isn't afraid to scale roofs.
