Introducing Taís!

Taís Morena Sparks is originally from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. As a toddler, she was adopted by an American couple and now lives in the US with her parents and pet cats, Tiger and Leon.

She is excited to be starting the 5th grade this year, and to get a new baby sister. Her parents are adopting again, this time from the US. Taís has been helping her parents set up the nursery for the new baby, who is due any day now.

Taís loves to paint and do puzzles, both of which she does with her adoption buddy, Paloma Castillo. Both Taís and Paloma were adopted at the same time from the same group home, but by different couples living in the same town, and consider themselves to be more like sisters than friends. Paloma is physically handicapped and can't do the more active things like bike riding and swimming that Taís loves, though she is having surgery soon that should help with her mobility.

The family speaks Portuguese, Spanish and English; Taís' mother is Brazilian, and her dad has learned Spanish and Portuguese through years of interaction, which makes their trips to visit family in Brazil much easier.

(The Seymour family has Leber Congenital Amaurosis (LCA), an Inherited Retinal Disorder (IRD). It's a family of congenital retinal dystrophies that results in severe vision loss at an early age. Patients usually present with nystagmus, sluggish or near-absent pupillary responses, severely decreased visual acuity, photophobia, and high hyperopia. It is the most severe retinal dystrophy causing blindness by the age of 1 year in most cases. The white pupil represents who inherited the disorder)
