Anyways, The Taming of the Queen is about being haunted and The Other Boleyn Girl is about fucked up familes. I would have little to no objections to the books because these two themes were portrayed out very well and very appealing to me. The problem comes with the whole historical fiction, which is dubiously annoying (Catherine Parr) to deeply teeth-gnashingly essay-long frustrating (Mary Boleyn). Another issue I have is when people (the author) don’t seem to understand why these two themes are so important in favor of other shit; glaring historical innaccuracies, exaggarated pedophilia, victim blaming, gratuitous sex, etc etc.

My Thoughts on Tudor Tumblr and Seeming Divisions Amongst Queens
This is a post of mainly my thoughts, and I feel comfortable having these thoughts looked and picked at, which is why I’m posting this here. In all fairness, some warnings:
1) This will be a long post, so Will be under a Read More
2) Content Warning for Murder, among other topics that have peaked in Tudor Talks here on Tumblr. Including Sexual Assault, beheading, and incest
3) I do consider myself a relative newcomer in the ranks of those who discuss the Tudors, and I look up to a good many people who blog on here. While I’m not asking for kindness (although that would be much appreciated) I am willing to learn if I end up getting anything wrong.
Now here we go.
To be quite fair, I have mostly kept to the Anne Boleyn side of tumblr, mainly as she is one of my favorite women of the time period. But as my interest and curiosity grew, I also moved on to other parts, namely KOA  and Jane Seymour.
And while these sides have also helped to fuel my interest in the Tudor Era, I can’t help to have noticed, as many people before me have, the arguments that spring up when comparing the different wives of Henry 8. Especially those who consider themselves fans of KOA and Anne Boleyn. With the recent ending of The Spanish Princess, more commonly shortened to TSP, there seems to have been another surge of this, from both sides.
Even then, I’ve seen people, including myself at times, try to compare all 6 Queens of England to each other and try to convince others as to why KOA is better than Anne Boleyn, or even why Jane Seymour is better than Anne Boleyn etc., etc.
To start off: I do not absolve myself of any wrong doing of that. I am human, just as any of you reading this, and tend to have favorites when it comes to things like this. So the fact that when I say that Anne Boleyn and K. Howard tend to be my two “favorites” of the 6 wives, I don’t think that it should draw from what I am trying to say at all. I am open to admitting that both women had their fair share of things that they did wrong amongst the things that they did right.
I am also willing to say that every Queen did something good.
In conversation with my mother, we call it, “Everyone brings something different to the table.” Even Queens like Anne (Anna?) of Cleves and Katherine Howard who were not Queens for very long brought something of their own to the Historical timeline.
Anne Of Cleves was known to be close to Henry after their divorce and managed to outlive him becoming one of the wealthiest women in England in her own right. Katherine Howard is described as being kind and generous and loving by some historians. Katherine Parr fought for female education and was a writer.
And while Katherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, and Jane Seymour gave the king his heirs, there is so much more to them that I don’t think a lot of people tend to see when it comes to them. More in media views of them than on here.
As someone with autism I tend to consider myself as someone who doesn’t like to look at the little details before the whole picture. Allow me to explain:
When it comes to history, while it tends to be written by the victors, there is more to be examined. People like Phillipa Gregory, who write what most people tend to think of as historical fiction, tend to only view one point of it. In Gregory’s case. she has a distinctive bias against Anne Boleyn (and almost every woman she writes). They (as writers and show runners) tend to also portray only one aspect of a historical person and run with it. (I.e., Anne Boleyn is a wh*re who took Henry away from his one true wife, Katherine of Aragon, but refuse to see Jane Seymour the same way. Those who see only the airheaded side of K. Howard instead of anything else, like The Tudors)
The point of this long rant is not to shame anyone. We are all human and we all tend to have our differing opinions because we are in fact, human.
This is just me in my special interest wondering why there is so much comparison between Tudor era Queens and rulers in general because I don’t understand it much. I mean, I’ve even seen it expand to later Queens such as Mary I and Elizabeth I, as well as Mary, Queen of Scots and (Queen) Lady Jane Grey.
Thank you for reading this, and I hope I don’t start any arguments because of this.

Jane's family tree 2/2
(The Seymour family has Leber Congenital Amaurosis (LCA), an Inherited Retinal Disorder (IRD). It's a family of congenital retinal dystrophies that results in severe vision loss at an early age. Patients usually present with nystagmus, sluggish or near-absent pupillary responses, severely decreased visual acuity, photophobia, and high hyperopia. It is the most severe retinal dystrophy causing blindness by the age of 1 year in most cases. The white pupil represents who inherited the disorder)
