Think I might fuck around and put Linux on this laptop. I’m annoyed enough at the new version of windows to finally make a change and I’ve always wanted to try that out and see what it was about.
Any mutuals into that sort of thing that have any words of wisdom?

last fedora update I did, completely fucked up my internet connectivity (between kernels!) and power utils (shutdown, reboot, etc) :/
the update prolly just got corrupted, since it froze, telling me not to shut it off, and I had to hard kill it.
luckily I kept notes of all the tweaks I've done while running it! so I'll just reinstall and be back to where I was in like a day 😌

I'm starting university (MSc Physics) next month
should I get a T480 i7 or a T14 G1 i5?
or even an x390 i7?
themk :3
I would go with the T480 i7. the other two aren't bad except for the fact that you don't have the ability to upgrade like the T480.
also another thing is the T480 has the cooling vent on the left side, but the t14 and x390 have the vent on the right side. So if you use a mouse, the T480 will be the only one that isn't blowing hot air right at your hand.
so the T480 can be upgraded, if you use a mouse it doesn't cook your hand, it also has a external battery and internal battery. The internal battery makes it so that you can replace your external battery on the go.
the cooling vent thing most likely doesn't matter since you're using it for university and probably will use the trackpoint or the trackpad (whichever person you are).

Here's a budget gaming PC build idea for anyone looking
This Thinkpad T480 need to remain plugged in due to a broken battery connector
https://www.ebay.com/itm/196397027893
However the T480 has a thunderbolt 3 port so you can connect a desktop GPU with a dock adapter
https://www.ebay.com/itm/196134484056
Cheap salvaged power supply to power the GPU get maybe a rtx3060 or 2070 on sale and you'd have a decent gaming PC under $500 total. You could even play older games while you save up for the GPU
