My sole and her son <3
After defeating the Institute, Lin adopts synth Shaun, and Nick becomes a sort of father figure to him.

This is a very old and tired complaint but Shaun really was the stupidest thing about fallout 4. The synths were pretty bad too but the synths weren't supposed to be the characters motivation for doing anything. Shaun was several jukes in a contrivance trench coat that clashed with...everything else, to be honest.
So anyway, some dumb ideas i came up with in ten minutes to replace the "Find your son" plot, still using the basic ideas
The SS is still pre-war, and still is the only survivor of Vault 111. This time, they're the ones taken by Kellogg, and after undergoing something (basically just being conscious in the Institute for a bit) before getting thrown back out into the Wasteland. The motivation is figuring out who those science guys were, what they wanted with you, and later, are you a synth?
The SS is not pre-war. Game starts with you traveling with some merc group (gunners maybe?) told to investigate Vault 111 and get out any survivors of the cryo chambers. You find the cryo'd people, but the Institute and Kellogg are right behind you. Kellogg kills everyone in your band, leaving only you, as you hide or play dead or whatever. The Institute takes all of the people you were supposed to save. Motivation is 1: avenging your team and killing Kellogg, 2: figuring out why you were sent to Vault 111 in the first place, and if this job was a set-up.
SS is a traveler who stumbles upon Garvey in Concord. You save him and his group, and can join the Minutemen as usual. If you accept, the Settlement radiant quests start to involve the Institute. Synths are constantly attacking your farms, you keep finding replacements in your settlements trying to kill the original people, and the Institute sends you letters requesting your cooperation or to disband the Minutemen, depending on your actions. Kellogg also keeps showing up and throwing wrenches in Minutemen business. Now, as the General, you're trying to find the Institute to make them stop fucking with your people. If you decline the Minutemen, the Institute starts attacking the major settlements, and now the Commonwealth is under invasion. The Brotherhood rolls in with no fake niceties, and you get roped into it by either the Railroad or BOS in a random encounter.
Back to Pre-war SS. The cryo chambers open after 200 years on their own, and all of the 'residents' stumble out to find the Vault staff dead. Someone has to go see what its like topside. You can volunteer, or everyone draws straws/flips a coin/etc and you lose, having to go up. You go find Codsworth, he tells you there are people in Concord. Find Garvey, etc etc. Vault 111 is now up and operational by Pre-war civilians, but you're tasking with getting supplies for them. Joining the Minutemen makes this easier, as you can send supply routes rather than do it yourself. The Vault interests the Institute, who send Kellogg to attack Sanctuary and the Vault after hitting a certain threshold of success. You go after the Institute once it looks like the Institute, before the war, had something to do with Vault 111, and are now trying to come collect those results. Motivation is figuring out what the Institute is actually planning for the Commonwealth, and why Vault 111 and its people seem to be their ticket to that future.

There's no greater proof that Nora is secretly a synth than her physique. No stretchmarks. Nothing's sagging. Not even if you make her fat. Like, you really want me to believe this woman popped out a baby less than 12 months ago?
Then again this could explain why a lawyer's house is smaller than my shitty ass apartment. Maybe she blew the family savings on lypo and laser surgery so she could have a hot bod in time for the apocalypse.

Day six (BTHB): Garrote!
The barbs kiiiinda ruin the point of a garrote’s clean kill, but it’s way more interesting to watch. ...She’s definitely not a sadist, definitely.

Synth!Sosu is such an interesting concept like. Shaun wants to just. know how much his parents loved him, like his own messed up way of feeling loved. But he doesn't want to kill his parent, so he takes them out of the cryo and replaces them with a synth.
Synth!Sosu runs across the Commonwealth for their son only to realise, maybe when they get to Far Harbour and meet DiMA, that they aren't who they believed they were. Shaun isn't even their son, its someone else's child
Maybe it takes them a while to deal with that fact, but it only stings more when Shaun tells them synths aren't humans, and cant feel. Because everything they've done to get to him was because of those intense feelings of love for their son
Idk it's just an interesting concept to me, thats kinda why I made Alyx a synth lmao. Although that does mean I need to wait till night to buy from that one ladys stand in diamond city because I don't wanna lie to her.

It’s kind of annoying to me that the sosu can’t fail the SAFE test. You can say at least one answer that we know is a likely synth indicator, but even though we know all of the responses are pre-written multiple choice and given to you as options, there’s no combination of them that will count as a failure.
I know it might cause some crazy lore implications if the sosu was able to fail it but I think it’s lame anyways. After all, the test isn’t the most accurate thing. It doesn’t have to mean anything.

OC info and lore m’lord? Brave knight… please they’re both so handsome… I’d take Hancock in a knife fight for just one date fr…. Bleeding on the concrete outside kle0s shop rn….
Tumblr media
Omg,,, thank u for the ask, I’ll take this as an opportunity to introduce all of my fellas since i have multiple saves/ocs for fallout 4. Right now they’re all in separate aus but I wanna connect them, I just haven’t decided who I want to be the sosu yet, if i even want one at all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Starting with Ranger, my newest character. He’s the charismatic leader of the Minutemen. He likes making light of every situation, but he knows when to take things seriously. He just puts on a laidback attitude so he appears less intimidating. He’s trying very hard to make the commonwealth safer, but he has some doubts and insecurities about his position, which he bottles up and keeps to himself. He wants to be the person that everyone can rely on and look up to, even if that means putting his own problems aside to appear put-together and strong. He’s the one I draw Edward Deegan with, and I wanna do more with the two of them since I love me some eldritch horror vibes. I imagine Ranger and Edward go on relic hunts for Jack Cabot after their questline, getting into hijinks and fun spooky, horrifyingly traumatic adventures. Maybe kissing along the way. Who knows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Knight on the other hand, is an anxious, paranoid little glorbo; and I say this while he stands at like 6’4”, he’s BIG, the tallest of all of my guys. He’s got severe PTSD and he really doesn’t like living in the apocalypse. He had a wife! They were in a queer platonic relationship; they got married for the benefits but they’re both gay. He’s devastated after losing her, since she was his best friend. He has a very hard time adjusting to the new commonwealth, he barely scrapes by, has to force himself to function because everything reminds him of war and suffering. He eventually stumbles into Goodneighbor, gets hooked on chems to distract himself from bad memories, meets Hancock one bad night and ends up getting drunk/rambling to the poor ghoul. They end up hitting it off despite the ridiculous introduction. Hancock manages to ground Knight, gives him a purpose again; helping good people, and hurting bad people. Knight travels the commonwealth doing odd jobs, trying to do what he can, even joins up with the Railroad to help out the Synths. Just trying to make up for all the time he’d lost, doing what he thinks would’ve made his best friend proud.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now for Paladin. Yes, he is named Paladin, and yes, he WAS Paladin Paladin before being promoted to Sentinel. It’s probably obvious by now that I have a Dnd/medieval theme for my character’s names. Anyway, Paladin here is— of course— a part of the Brotherhood of Steel. I made him to be a big dickhead because I don’t play mean characters in video games enough. Unlike my other sosus he’s actually thriving in the apocalypse. Before being frozen he was very dissatisfied/disconnected with the ordinary life he was trying to live, he felt like a husk of himself and he couldn’t understand why. After waking up and being met with a destroyed world, his soldier mentality immediately kicked in again. He adapted fast, and when he learns about the Brotherhood and its US military-esc operations he quickly latches onto it. It’s familiar to him, and he excels at his duties. He rises through the ranks quickly, earning his place as Sentinel and developing a massive ego along the way. The Brotherhood makes him feel powerful, and that sort of becomes an addiction of sorts. He just wants more and more power, he wants to be respected; and if not respected, feared.
And as a bonus unrelated to fallout 4,
Tumblr media
This is Monty, aka Montague. He’s a prewar ghoul living in the Canadian territories, or Little America as it’s referred to in the Fallout universe. He was a proud mountie back before Canada was annexed, kept his uniform in a locked safe for years. When the bombs fell and he was ghoulified, he pulled it out and dedicated himself to helping those who get lost in the nuclear winter. I’m still learning things about Fallout lore so idk how Canada is depicted after the bombs in canon, but the idea I had is that Monty lives in a massive, snowy wasteland which he’s learned to navigate with a lot of hard work and dedication. He earns caps by guiding people through the tundra, since few know how to avoid all the dangers it poses.

What's a good Halloween costume for Danse?
I think the dude would make a great Knight, like medieval style. He has the build and the attitude but I think he'd find it funny to dress up as a historically accurate Paladin and be like "Costume? What costume? This is regular attire for a Paladin." And keep a straight face because he'd think it was an excellent joke to pretend his costume was regulation. It's lame but Danse is so comically serious that other BoS members would chuckle at it cause he's just so pleased with his little halloween "prank" by the end of the day.
Post BB I think he'd just match a costume with the Sole Survivor. A big part of celebrations is celebrating them with people you know and are comfortable around and without his BoS companions he really only has SoSu for the time being. Is SoSu dressed up as a raider? So is Danse. SoSu is a wizard or something? He's their hunk henchmen (SoSu's words not his). I don't think he's one to think of like extravagent costumes cause he really wouldn't care but if it was like a party he'd try a little bit.
In like a real like scenario he's the guy who wears a slightly modified version of the same costume every year. Seeing that he like country music and longs for like a nice simple family like I can 100% see his dressing up as a cowboy or rancher. Pitchfork and lasso and all. To be honest he may just wear that as regular clothes too soooooo...

Nora SoSu ref!! I love her (she has been put through the wringer)
More lore below cut v
Like I said she was an extremely talented criminal defense lawyer. She almost always won the cases she was assigned to, and if she didn’t win, she managed to get her clients sentences dramatically reduced. Closer to her maternity leave, however, she picked up a case where someone was falsely accused of being a communist.
(In universe, Fallout has a LOT of anti-communist/red scare propaganda hence this)
She won the case, but her “credibility” instantly tanked, as no one wanted a “commie” defending them. So she was basically bottlenecked into defending communists or people accused of such. She, being one of the top lawyers, won almost all of them, and sent several companies into bankruptcy after settlements were paid, but this made her nationally hated. Her name was in newspapers often, smearing her name and her skills, which often went hand in hand with racist/bigoted rants from these publications
She “retired” after becoming pregnant with Shaun, both because Nate asked her to, and because it was becoming far too dangerous for her to keep at her practice. So she was a sahm until the Great War, upon which the canon events of FO4 happen
She becomes extremely anxious and depressed after being released, and while she does immediately start looking for Shaun, she also begins to look for things that distract her as well, eventually resulting in her appointment to the Minutemen’s General as well as becoming a Railroad member. As stated she does NOT like the Brotherhood, and they make her anxious with their similarities to the American Army (she also doesn’t particularly like Danse, not through any fault of his own, just that he reminds her too much of Nate).
She does find Kellogg and. Punches him to death. It’s cathartic for her, in a way.
I don’t have a solid grasp on what happens after that, but I do know that she chooses to evacuate + blow up the Institute, and that she tries to bring Father with her, but he tells her to take Synth Shaun in his place. SShaun is also a fun concept to play w/ I do have some lore for him
I will say she is friend with Nick, one because they’re both pre-war (on technicality), and two because they actually both knew of each other. Nora often defended people Nick arrested, so they’d see each other on court, and because they were both in the paper often (Nora for the Commie’s Lawyer thing, Nick for the Eddie Winter’s case). They’re. Super shocked and a little disturbed to see the other after “meeting again” but they do become decent friends once they get over their heebies :3

THERE SHOULD BE A SOLE SURVIVOR CHAMPIONSHIP
So it would be like a Hunger Games event, but with individual SoSu's
And what their playthrough was like can have an affect on how they fight.
For example: An Institute alligned Sole who romanced MacCready will have better chances at headshots, as well as the ability to call for synth help.
But a Sole who built up the Minutemen and befriended Danse will deal better damage to synths as well as have artillery and groups of Minutemen ready to help.
So therefore, the MM Sole would have a slightly better chance against Institute Sole, but Institute Sole might still be able to get a few good hits from afar.
But regular companions will not be able to join. Maybe you can have a "Call on them once" card, but aside from a little bit of faction and affinity aid, it's strictly Sole.
But you can even make your own SoSu character sheets, using either art you made of them or just images from in-game. Has their special stats, their perks, who they're closest with.
I wouldn't be able to lead this myself because I don't know shit about fuck. But it could be a fun idea!

Gage for the ask me anything! If you don’t do DLC characters then Nick Valentine please and Butch from FO3❤️
Thank you for requests! Another Anon sent me an ask with 2/3 of the characters and with Old Long Fellow so I'll post that soon for them. In the meanwhile, please enjoy. CW for Butch: Child abuse. Triggering content below the cut.
Nick Valentine
Ever since he was a young boy he's had a knack for investigating.
First got into introduction to it was family game night, where they had one of those fake investigation game thingies. He got it pretty fast, much to his families dismay. They got some more, and he only got better.
Started to watch detective and crime shows and movies and he'd often pick up on the culprit quickly. Listened to true crime radio shows too.
When he was 16, his neighbour hired to him to investigate if her husband was cheating on him. He found out and got photo evidence. The husband was cheating and he got paid handsomely for finding out.
Frequently corresponds with DiMA,  exchanging letters and parcels. He tries to visit at least once a year. DiMA still tries to convince him to stay.
One time while they were staying, DiMA found  one of those investigation games. A whole bunch of Synthes and DiMA tried to figure it out, Nick sat there watching and helping whenever he could. He ending up bringing it back to the Commonwealth with him.
Pre-War Nick was pretty close with Jennifer's nephew, becoming an uncle figure. There bond only got got stronger after Jenny got murdered. Nick and Little Shaun now share this bond.
His internal fans speed up and get really loud when he's flustered of caught of guard. If it's really quiet and you get up nice and close you could almost hear a mechanical heartbeat.
Porter Gage
I haven't played or watched too much on Nuka-world, so forgive me if I have anything off.
Gouged out his own eye. He was dared to prove his courage, loyalty and balls.
His brother is Red-eye. They were both adopted into the same raider family. They also have sister and another younger brother who were birthed into the ranks. The Sister and brother died in one of the raids, but Red Eye and Gage made it to Nuka World.
Doesn't like the taste of Nuka-Cola, drinking it so much as made him miserable. He's so tired of using it to marinade meat. He's so tired of the same fizzy texture. He's so tired of the taste, the colour, everything.
Tends to help out with agriculture and farming considering his roots.
Is debating betraying the SoSu considering their status with the Minutemen, dissatisfied at the recent information. He's also planning a full scale invasion of the Commonwealth.
He also wanted Nuka World too himself as well, so he has Red-Eye spy on SoSu.
Butch DeLoria
Content Warnings for Child Abuse the cut.
His dad ran off to Vegas. Growing up his mother would warn him about gambling, Chems and alcohol. Also bares a striking resemblance to his father, his mother resents him for it.
When he was a young child, he'd often ""run away"" from their room and ask to sleep for the night. He'd end up frequently having sleep overs with other kids and spend more time at theirs than his'.
Was really hoping to get a mechanic on the G.O.A.T and absolutely hated being a barber at first. However, he really like doing his hair and got really good it, so he excelled in his training much to his dismay.
Opened his own barber shop in Rivet City and people from all over, and I mean all over come to see him and to get a haircut. His skills are insane.
Listens to a lot of Elvis and can do a few of his dance moves.
Big comic book nerd despite bullying a lot of kids in the vault about comics. He's a grognak kinda guy I reckon.
Helps MacCready out too and knew him as a kid. He often visits little Duncan and brings him lollies, sweets, sodas and comics. He'll read Duncan the letters MacCready sends him in silly voices to get him to laugh.
Big ol' softie, wants a wife and to settle down in a family but his past experiences and absent father makes him second guess himself. He has a dog though.
He got counselling from James to deal with his trauma. Also apologised to the LW and Amata too.
Happy to leave the vault and never come back!
Continued below cut
He'd run to the guards and overseer and tell them about everything, most of the guards wanted to help him and would let him stay around them. They did everything in their power to get him help.
but when the overseer confronted his mother about she denied everything and said that he was lying.
He was not. Could you hear it.

I love Sosu’s who are terrified of and disturbed by Synth Shaun. My Sosu almost killed Synth Shaun because he was an abomination but the child’s extremely realistic (because obviously it’s genuine) pleading and begging for his life freaked my Sosu out so bad he couldn’t do it but also needed to get as far away from this Thing as fast as possible
i think its an interesting dynamic to bring in, esp if they still accept shaun. and ultimately kind of horrifying for shaun in all sorts of respects. rip shaun when it comes to sosus who dont like synths
i know guy wasnt even a fan of codsworth bc of how human he acted, let alone a facsimile of your child. not to mention the strange societal horror of synths in general.
