Okay at the request of an RP partner and follower I'm going to make a separate post thread to collect all the fun little quel/sin'dorei-related lore tidbits from the Sylvanas novel, for people who don't intend on ever reading it lmao. I'm reading it so you don't have to, etc etc

Note that I am not super familiar with quel/sin'dorei lore, so some of these things may already been common knowledge.

1.) This bit about something called woundwood on page 41.

Note that earlier in this chapter, Sylvanas (who I think is supposed to be in her late teens??? unclear) spiked some drinks with woundwood powder, which resulted in the people who drank it to get swollen tongues and think they'd been poisoned. But apparently it's otherwise harmless when ingested.

The Fate of the Kirin Tor

was eager to dive into this questline. I was affected at the beautiful last scene, but literally I have to ask:

Khadgar, what the fuck are you and Jaina thinking? Also, why the fuck are you putting Jaina back in charge after her history as leader of the Kirin Tor, AND ALSO THE GIANT RED FLAG IN THE POST-QUEST DIALOGUE WHERE SHE TALKS ABOUT PROTECTING THE KIRIN TOR AND THE ALLIANCE. This chick still hates the Horde with her whole throat. And Aethas being the other major power player???? Like, do I need to discuss why his history has been an issue? As much as I love his voice because it sounds like my boy Nathanos, no.

Also, decentralizing research -- a terrible idea academically. Look I have three max level mages (one for each spec and they all have their own RP reasons for being these specs) and so I'm more invested in this plot than normal, as well as being an irl academic, but what they're basically affirming they want to do is dismantle their own university. It feels like an embrace of narrow scholarship, if not an outright rejection.

Yeah, maybe they should stop relocating the city to the worst trouble spots on the planet, that's a good move. But making the Kirin Tor operate essentially the way decentralized terror cells operate and people working independently and not together? Well, it's the idea I'd expect from Jaina, who was written terribly for the last 20 years, and also what I'd expect from a void-corrupted-from-all-that-time-in-the-Dark-Heart Khadgar. They are effectively weakening Azeroth's magic scholarship and knowledge production and unless they're doing it for some "oh noez the Burning Legion" Night Elf reasons, which they're not, they should maybe, idk. Come up with a better plan. Shit is not getting easier on Azeroth and scattering the world's most knowledgable mages is... stupid.

But that's just me and my very unpopular on this website opinion that I can't stand Jaina really lol. Not her fault, her writing is bad. Which, yes, as a Sylvanas enjoyer, I realize is rich, but Sylvanas had moments of good writing whereas Jaina's been terribly written from the get. Jaina to me is a lot like Anduin where I could have liked her if the writers weren't so determined to spite the fans over what the writers perceived as wrong opinions of these characters. Or maybe I just don't like the Alliance that much.

BUT LIKE. ARCHMAGE MODERA IS RIGHT THERE. SHE WOULD BE A GREAT LEADER. BUT I GUESS BLIZZARD IS CONTENT TO JUST LEAVE HER AS 'KHADGAR GIRLFRIEND'

Three Ships:

So I assume this is like favorites? Okay, I'll try to do separate fandoms as well to keep it interesting and I'll try and make it less common ships, not exactly rare ships per se because like... I am very shy and anxiety prone so truthfully iunno what's rare and not because I don't engage a lot.

Thunderweave (Gale/Rolan) : I really like this one, even more since my fiancee and I RPed it with the idea of transmasc Rolan. It's really kind of interesting and also Rolan deserves a better fellow wizard than Lorroakan and I think Gale is a great fellow wizard being both talented, secure in his abilities, but also willing to see the potential and power in another person. Also I super identify with Rolan and my fiancee does a really good really convincing Gale for RP and cosplay. Kabru/Mithrun: I initially preferred Kabru/Laios, which I still really like honestly, but I read a longer post about Mithrun's disabilities and his trauma and how Kabru treats him like a person when most people don't and like as a heavily traumatized person who became suddenly and severely disabled as a result, I really really relate and hope that my partners will show me that same level of care when they are able (distance has been the main reason why not, my mom has mainly been the one taking care of me since I became disabled so I don't really know what my partners will do in person because one lives far away and one has been called away on family issues since before this became a major issue) Thraina (Thrall/Jaina) : This is the only hetero ship I consistently come back to. I usually prefer Sylvanas/Jaina, but realistically I don't want to put that one here for only one reason. Sylvanas/Jaina has a lot of basis in what it could be (No one at Blizzard who has been there consistently through their entire development is talented enough to have made it work so it's all theoretical and based on what much better unpaid fanfiction writers decide). Thraina, meanwhile was unintentionally somehow written as one of the most equitable, healtyh, equal, and level relationships in all of WoW and it wasn't even canon...mainly because Metzen is a weird creepy misogynist (one of the main reasons I actually mainly write Aggra/Jaina as a ship actually, because both deserve better and are, in theory, better than that bag of derivative Marvel obsessed dicks allows them to be) but anyway, it's just fascinating to me how the healthiest ship in WoW was axed, shut down, and denied despite how genuinely good it was. I could write essays on this, I *HAVE* written essays on this, but I'll spare you. First ship: Domon Kasshu/Chibodee Crockett (G Gundam) but also Meg Giry and Christine Daae (Phantom of the Opera) these were simultaneous, so honestly I had to put both.

Last Movie: it was this obscure random horror movie I found on Peacock called 'Wait Till Helen Comes' about a child ghost. I tend to since I've been unable to work stay up late making costume pieces and writing and pick random horror movies for background. It wasn't bad, honestly.

I'm completly aware how poorly written she was, but I believe that sometimes fanon version of characters can be as good or better than canon. So, mine Sylvanas isn't as weirdly written as in og WoW. In my opinion, she deserved to be what she was going to be from very start – Good leader of Forsaken, antihero, character who does evil for greater good, who uses controversial option to keep herself and Forsaken powerful. I believe that she should be something more that sexualised war criminal, she deserved to be deep character who could redeem herself. I hate her betrayal of Horde and Forsaken, I hate burning of Teldrassil and I refuse to accept anything post Legion as canon. I just want to give her proper story and fix things that I don't agree with.

you know what, for all of bfa's faults, i so, so very deeply miss bfa. the story overall had some pretty shitty decisions but like... i had the most fun playing wow during this expansion and i'm realizing now just how much i'm yearning for it, the rp i had at the time, the story of the xpac that allowed said rp plots to take place, and the ensemble of characters present (y'all already know me and my mathias shaw and flynn fairwind bias). dazar'alor music makes me severely nostalgic, rastakhan and bwonsamdi were awesome, and i do miss nathanos' bitchiness oh my god. azerite was a fun new lore thing that blows shit up and enhanced military tech, would've liked to see more of that explored on the advancement side of things. hd cinematics left and right. zappy boi. azshara jumpscare. n'zoth jumpscare. WRATHION JUMPSCARE. sooooo much shit happened all at once. proudmoore lore. KUL TIRAS LORE!!! oh my god SO MANY PIRATES!!! kul tiras was SOOO COOOLLLLL DUDE. flynn fairwind and everything about him was so charming. ugh. and then FAIRSHAW happened. the first significant gay ship. revolutionary truly. thraina crumbs. like yeah bfa had some pretty shitty things (teldrassil, everything about sylvanas, everything about calia, etc) but like... i had so much fun. that was truly the most fun i had playing wow ever.

back whenever i rped the trio some years ago, one of my rp partners at the time gave me the fantastic idea of DK!Rommath & i am thinking heavy about it this morning.

a lot of my hcs have changed since then but I think I could still make it work tbh. Imagining like. He ends up partnering up with Sylvanas (not necessarily in replace of Nathanos but ends up being similar in status? if that makes sense) since he can relate to her at that time.

I think both lor & hal would be DEVASTATED to learn that rom died & then got turned for the purpose of the scourge. not only did they lose sylv but now also him too? lor def has a vendetta against arthas now.
