Okay at the request of an RP partner and follower I'm going to make a separate post thread to collect all the fun little quel/sin'dorei-related lore tidbits from the Sylvanas novel, for people who don't intend on ever reading it lmao. I'm reading it so you don't have to, etc etc
Note that I am not super familiar with quel/sin'dorei lore, so some of these things may already been common knowledge.
1.) This bit about something called woundwood on page 41.
Note that earlier in this chapter, Sylvanas (who I think is supposed to be in her late teens??? unclear) spiked some drinks with woundwood powder, which resulted in the people who drank it to get swollen tongues and think they'd been poisoned. But apparently it's otherwise harmless when ingested.

2.) I guess not really explicitly elf-related, but here's a description on the markers the Amani use to define their borders:

3.) Descriptions of some hand signals the Farstriders use/d (gonna start copy-pasting the text instead):
"They both knew the various hand signals: arm extended, get to ground; palm up, hold position; hand on heart, prepare to fire." (p. 92) "Sylvanas lowered her right hand, fingers splayed—stand down, do not fire. She pointed at the body, held up two fingers, tapped near her eye, then made a circle in the air. There were two Farstriders. Look for the second, and make a circuit." (p. 93)

4.) They call birthdays "name days"
"How had [Sylvanas] possibly forgotten her baby brother’s name day[...]" (p. 105)

#sylv novel tidbits#also can I just say the relationship between her and her brother Lirath is written kind of weirdly#like I get having love for your siblings but there's just a lot. of it.#saying this as someone with a younger brother#not that I think it's SUPPOSED to come off as strange but just going off this I'm inclined to assume the author is an only child

8.) THE DARK EAGLE EXPLAINED
Vor’athil nodded. “It will be an honor [to recount a tale of Lireesa Windrunner's battle prowess]. The Amani had been quiet for some time. Then, completely unexpectedly, they launched an incursion. No simple raid, but a well-planned and -executed attack. Not only were all their finest warriors in the vanguard—but so was a terrifying creature. The tortured thing had been an eagle, once. But the trolls had cruelly warped it with their dark magic, twisting it into a true monster.” (p. 141)
The story goes on but there's no detailed description of the eagle, and Lireesa killed it anyway.

9.) Little fun fact about the process of swearing in new ranger-generals
It was custom that, after a ranger-general was sworn in, they would symbolically “take care” of the Farstriders by preparing a simple meal of small items—cubed cheese, cut fruit, slices of bread—and offering the tray to every member they would lead into battle one day. (p. 145)

7.) Basic description of how funerals work, at least for high-ranking individuals:
The ceremony to honor the fallen ranger-general and ambassador and councilor was all it should have been—reverent, poignant, full of meaning. The bodies were encased in mortcloths woven in the Windrunner colors; their names carefully embroidered with gold thread. Flowers of every hue were placed on the bodies and the bier that supported them. Verath and Lireesa Windrunner would lie in state for a full day, so that those they had served so well in life could pay their respects. Sylvanas, Vereesa, and Lirath stood beside the wrapped forms, clad in mourning clothes and wearing the family tabard. (p. 135)
The "mourning clothes" are then described as "dark", with no additional detail.

5.) Counterintuitively, the orbs at the Sanctum of the Sun apparently represent the stars? I guess the sun is a star, but...
"At one point, [Sylvanas] had taken [Nathanos] on one of her favorite paths to see the Sanctum of the Sun, admire its turning orbs that represented the stars[...]" (p. 115)

6.) Something called "the Dark Eagle"????
[King Anasterian] paused, then added, kindly, “I understand your desire for [your (Sylvanas') parents'] deaths to have been due to something strange and unfamiliar. A great threat, like the Dark Eagle, not at the hands of simple trolls. But when we have had enemies at our door for millennia, it is not difficult to know who to blame. [...]" (p. 120)
No idea what that is, and he doesn't elaborate so lol???? I looked it up but got nothing.
