The Champion's Sons AU:

One would not expect to become a father right at the age of 15, though to be fair one also wouldn't expect that a ten-year-old would become Champion. Leon has already done one of those things, the Champion thing, not the father thing. Well, that's not correct, he actually he might be doing the father thing right now.

See, what is 15-year-old Leon the Champion of Galar to do, when he finds what he believes to be five-year-old orphaned children that fell from the sky through what Leon can only assume to be a portal from another world or realm?

Experience the joys and horrors of fatherhood, that's what.

Naming the children Ash and Goh, Leon vows to protect them until he can solve the mysteries of their origins and hopefully send them back home. Just where did Ash and Goh come from? Will Leon ever figure it out? Will Leon ever be able to bring them back to their true families and homes?

Miraculous x Pokémon Swsh AU: Dimensional Rogue

Rifts all over the universes are open, nothing is now safe from his songs and he'll be sure that you won't forget the biggest rock show of all time, presenting you the Dimensional Rogue 🎸🦹🏻‍♂️

This rock and roll villain is the akumatized version of Piers, one of the gym leaders of the Galar region. With his bracelets ( and also with his guitar), he can open rifts for another universes and use them for various things ( teleport, send people to another places and even call akumatized villains of these alternative universes), he can also control these villains by his microphone.

The World of Butterfly Effect

I'm in the process of dropping some refs for the main characters and rivals of my lil SwSh story, but this version of Galar is a bit different from canon, so here's a post with a crash course of the worldbuilding and some of the changes I made to the region. It's all below the cut so I don't clog the dash

Power Crisis

Unlike in the games, the power crisis Rose is worried about is having a lot of genuine impacts on the people of Galar. With coal mostly gone, the mines cleared out, and Pokemon unable to provide enough power for cities, many people are consistently without electricity. This causes a bit of strain between the rural and urban populations, as energy and electricity is often siphoned from rural areas to maintain constant power in urban areas. However, even with the partitioning of resources and mandatory limits on electricity use, the problem is getting worse. When this story happens, the power crisis is at its worst, with no signs of getting better and tensions continuing to rise.

Dynamax, Gyms, and Rose

Unlike the League-mandated gym / battle system of other regions, the gym system of Galar is run by Rose’s company, Macro Cosmos, and acts as a political and economic powerhouse. It is highly publicized, televised, and used both within and outside of Galar to provide funds for public works projects as well as making a name for Galar and to boost morale. Though it has some detractors, those who think it’s rigged, and those who find it offensively excessive in the face of a national power crisis, it is by-and-large the most popular part of Galar’s culture.

The main reason the gyms can get away with these huge stadiums and flashing lights is because of their alliance with Rose and the use of a completely new, alternate power source: Dynamax! The stadiums were built on top of massive deposits of dynamax crystals which power everything in the stadium from the Jumbotron to the Dynamaxing pokemon, so they don’t need to worry about using any of the town’s electricity stores for their sporting events. Not only does this provide a scifi spectacle, but a good case study for how Dynamax can act as an alternative energy source for buildings, which Rose is especially thrilled about. His attempts to fix Galar’s power crisis starts at the gyms, so he makes himself pretty involved in its daily operations for an energy company CEO.

What is a Beastman?

Galar is the only region in the pokemon universe with Beastmen, people with the traits of pokemon. They suddenly appeared in historical records a few hundred years ago, and were accepted as a regular part of society pretty quickly and without much fuss. To the shock of foreigners, the people of Galar don’t actually know where beastmen came from, why they only seem to exist in Galar, or what determines whether someone is a beastman or not. What surprises people more is that the people of Galar don’t seem to be super interested in figuring any of this out. Generally speaking, only a few things about beastmen are known: they typically, but not always, come from lineages that already have beastmen in them, they can be any pokemon, but typically those found near them / in their area, and that the degree to which they are human varies significantly and seemingly at random. There are some researchers, such as Sonia, who are especially interested in untangling the mysteries of beastmen, but they’re few and far between.

there's some pokemon masters EX story spoilers under the cut if you're interested in playing the galar villain arc for yourself!

i think pokemon masters is full a lot of genuinely cool/interesting ideas for a gacha game (i've called it, very affectionately, written like fanfic except they get paid for it)

the fact that ORAS archie and maxie aren't evil to begin with is already amazing to me characterization-wise since it would've been easy enough to make them evil by default (they are so divorced.)

but i also really love that SWSH absolutely happened for leon, sonia, hop, gloria and victor- but Rose and Oleana are from the past or an alternate universe- so it allows them freedom to have new/different motivations, while still allowing the group very much not to trust them for good reason

i don't think pokemas is like, the pinnacle of coherent storytelling but i really appreciate the effort the writers go through to make things make enough sense and going ham with the notion that the timeline doesn't need to make sense because pasio is such an anomaly- then they can really honor good characterization while playing around with so many what-if scenarios, it still feels so much like they genuinely care about the stories and characters they're working with

i'm also really liking how far Lear's come as a character too!! as far as storytelling goes, the actual story arcs are really compelling

gotta be honest though the absolute worst thing about all main series pokemon games since USUM is that they are:

an alternate universe of a previous set of games and this time looker's role is far smaller than it was in the original universe, proving that this is the worse timeline (USUM compared to SUMO)

remakes of games that were originally made before looker was introduced, and didn't add him despite ORAS setting a precedent for doing so (LGPE)

remakes of games that did have looker, but only in the third version from which said remakes annoyingly chose not to incorporate any content (BDSP)

entirely brand new games which totally could have included looker but just chose not to (SWSH, SV)

an entirely brand new game which could've at least included one of looker's ancestors getting up to detective shenanigans if they didn't wanna send the actual looker to the past, but again they chose not to do so (PLA)

Friend sent me this, and as a self-titled pokemaniac, I'd do wrong to not reply and elaborate on every single of those points. I already did to them, after all.

Quickest summary: Yes, the pokemon universe is ripping apart at the seams. Some details sound off, though, but the world is just gonna snap in half any time soon. Beware spoilers for almost all mainline [gen 3 onward] and all PMD games.

1) It's unclear where Mega Evolution actually comes from. There's two leading theories - yes, ORAS says meteorites, but XY says the energy of the Ultimate Weapon. The answer is probably both, because Pokemon doesn't care about consistency. Alternatively one set of worlds just has a lot more energy in it. 1.2) This is merely trivia that was certainly just an offhand meta joke, but in HGSS, Steven says he was fought by multiple identical-looking kids, implying every single playthrough of Ruby and Sapphire is set in the same world. The implications are hilarious. 1.5) Yes, Anabel is from Emerald world. People falling through holes is often enough to get them a name of a "Faller". Other notable Fallers include Mohn [husband of Lusamine, main villain of gen 7] and Looker [a detective from Platinum that appears in X/Y too]

2) True. I forgot they were silver-skinned myself, but the humanoids are called Ultra Recon Squad. Their world is devoid of light due to Ultra Necrozma. Also important is that, due to those wormholes, local pokemon are imbued with special energy called Z-Power, overdose of which turns individuals big. This is the same energy that Ultra Necrozma possesses.

2.2) Another minor trivia: Lunala, Solgaleo and Necrozma are all technically ultra beasts, but they are not counted as such in game's code. Probably to let you catch 'em without doing a post-game quest, but still, funny.

3) More specifically, you can capture Cosmog [which evolves into Cosmoem, and then into either Solgaleo or Lunala depending on your game version], but the mirror world thing is true. However, I am not sure it allows your pokemon to evolve into the other mascot. I'm not saying not, I'm just saying I'm not sure, since evolution is version-locked. 4) Eternatus. That's basically the plot of SwSh for those who care. There was a Catastrophic Event™️ including him, but he got defeated - then, in current times, local energy plant owner got him and wants to do Catastrophic Event™️ again because we will run out of energy in a thousand years. I am not joking. It's dumb. Rose is dumb. 4.2) Eternatus came from a meteorite, too. Perhaps Dynamax phenomenon and Mega evolution are two sides of the same thing? 4.5) Said energy made its mark for long enough that on a nearby island, mushrooms grow that allow the pokemon to enter their alternative big boi modes, "Gigantamax", or "rearranged genetic makeup" as OP calls it. It's a temporary form so I wouldn't be so dramatic myself. 4.7) Eternatus has his own special big boi mode where he turns into a huge-ass hand. It's called "Eternamax". During the fight with him, you get to see flashes of other locations and times in the background.

5) Mmmm, ScaVio's time machine. It's important to stress that the theory that paradoxes are basically Sada/Turo's imagination is just a theory. It's popular, sure, but paradox pokemon have been in the region for over 200 years, and the original research team was there in search of treasure, not weird beasts. What is true is, those creatures are there in the crater of Paldea, and it's also the source of Terastal energy which is basically the local phlebotinium. The robot in question is professor's AI in a robot clone body. It's specified that scientists cannot do such technology yet, but Terastal energy helped out somehow. It is hard to say however if it's sentient, or just very sophisticated, cases can be made both ways. Pokemon doesn't need to explain a damn, after all. The Time Machine that's mentioned was built by Sada/Turo, and is said to send things both ways. Professor uses them to send pokeballs into past/future and catch pokemon like that, but it also makes paradox pokemon spontaneously appear in the vicinity too.

6) True. There's also a large drawing in a secret cave where paradox Salamence/Gallade spawn. There's an implication that the DLC will explain a little bit of that, but it's merely an implication for now.

7) This is pretty much just the plot of DPPt. To add a little bit, the "banished god", Giratina, lives in an extremely splintered world where gravity is local and things don't obey typical laws of physics, changing all the time.

8) Oh boy this is a big one. At first I want to stress that PMD isn't treated as canon in mainline series, but I will ignore that for the sake of argument. 8.3) In PMD universe as a whole, humans are something between ancient history, myth, and a fairytale. Pokemon are aware of humans, and they're mentioned to have existed in the past, but no longer. There are even ruins of human constructions as seen in Rescue Team's Decrepit Lab 8.3 a) Rescue Team has two humans of note. Gengar and the protagonist. First is said to have been cursed by Ninetales to become a pokemon, second was approached and willingly agreed to go to the pokemon world. So it's hardly world splintering in this case. 8.3 b) Explorers have a single human, the protagonist. They've come from far future of darkness, being a partner to Grovyle. However, there's no explanation whatsoever as to what a human was doing there. [Unless you consider that Bidoof's Wish is responsible for the entire game happening. Then we can blame Bidoof.] 8.3 c) Gates have many humans and they're actually explained. They've been called from other worlds by an entity called Voice of Life in order to save the world. Notably, every human except the protagonist is also sent back to their original world by the villains. 8.3 d) Super has a human protagonist, and also an ancient human in the past. First was brought by Mew, but the second one is just kinda there? That one's not explained. Notably, the protagonist of Super does not return to the "human world" upon completion of their quest, unlike all other protagonists. 8.3 e) Adventurers has no humans. I just wanted to mention it exists because if I suffer this knowledge, so shall you. 8.6) Legends has two notable humans. Protagonist has been sent across the time by the literal will of God Himself, however Ingo fell through the time on his own and [like Fallers of SMUSUM] has amnesia. However, in this case, what's far more important is that the timespace continuum in Legends: Arceus is absolutely, positively, and completely FUCKED. There's just holes in reality all over the whole place. Left and right. You can enter those and catch a Porygon there if you so damn please. You can catch ancient [fossil] pokemon there. What the fuck happened.

9) Time eroding is a conscious effort made by Darkrai in order to create a world of darkness. He actively sabotages everything that can happen for it behind the scenes. This doesn't change the fact that time is kept in check with literally a single location that, if it crumbles, time will eventually stop. [But there are spare time gears. Explorers of Sky informs us of at least six, and you only need five. [Limestone Cavern in Here Comes Team Charm! special episode has the sixth one. Also it's implied there are time gears in Drenched Bluffs and Waterfall Cave because Dimensional Scream activates there.]] However, yes, Mystery Dungeons are unexplained locations that warp and distort. They also are said to appear due to a large amount of local disasters happening in Rescue Team.

And yes, the list is fairly non-exhaustive. You have time/dimension travel in BWB2W2 [trading between versions is implied to be time travel by one npc in Opelucid; and Entralink exists], you get the entire Rainbow Rocket episode of USUM where you just have villains that actually managed to conquer/destroy their worlds because there was no protag vibing into your world, Alolan wormholes opened over Galar in Crown Tundra... Yep, those worlds are fucked.

Ahh, some things I should note about the Pokemon Trainer AU:

(I know it’s a lil sus for two posts in a row to have read mores but shhh please just trust me)

Takes place around six decades after B2W2

I don’t know exactly when the games take place around one another unless specifically stated, so I just kind of did what I want with the game timelines where I could, meaning for the purposes of parts of four character backstories, SwSh takes place seven years after B2W2

Unova is literally the region I know the least about, despite being where the story takes place, but I’m doing my best to keep things consistent with the games (the gap of time between B2W2′s story and this one is literally something that’s going to help me with that).

While Unova is the main setting of the story, several characters have origins in other regions.

Characters will be introduced with the names they have in the DKC games, but they will mostly just be monikers that they are better known as while others use the names they are given in the AU.

You may have to do mental gymnastics to figure out how each character ties into their role or typing, but most are easy to figure out.

Contests will be a thing for this region. Enough time has passed in-universe that it makes sense to have been carried over at some point.

Literally some of the most obscure Donkey Kong characters in all reaches of the games’ universe are pulled out of the woodwork by the end of it. You may not like their designs, but I at least tried.

While the main fic has yet to be worked on, there are two or three fics currently being written that take place before the main story that give some context to the actions of certain characters. Despite this, I wholeheartedly welcome speculation!

Keep an eye on the pokeballs each character is holding in their alternate artwork. It’s just one of many breadcrumbs for the future.

Ah man we used to have a Gameboy Colour and GBA in breakfast club in primary school until they were banned because we kept fighting over them so my first experience of Pokémon was replaying the first half hour or so of Crystal over and over again because people would delete and make a new save file each week ❤️ I was about 6 or 7 at the time I think.

Lucky Egg: Your gym theme/team

THIS IS SO HARD WTF. I don't even know what my signature type would be. I usually go for the water starter and it's been tradition since Kanto-Kalos but idk I love flying, fairy, dragon, and the ground type has really grown on me recently.

Ok I have two cool ideas let's start with water.

My gym would be a water park with cool slides, a wave machine, those things you stand under where the bucket gets full of water and gets tipped on you, the good stuff. People and their pokemon can come and have fun or train and battle! My team would consist of Wailmer, Floatzel, Azumarill and Swampert. After beating my team you get the Tidal Badge.

In an alternate universe maybe not so far away...

My flying gym would be set out in a tree tops high ropes course where you have to zipline your way through the various points until you reach me. Again, people can just come here for a good time and zip along so they feel like they’re flying with their pokemon or for a battle! You’d have to get through my team of Emolga, Altaria, Dartrix, and Corviknight before you receive the Cloud badge.
