antizionists out there who are jews-in-progress or who are or were seeking conversion to judaism or jews who are fully converted already i wanted to write a little love note to you specifically today <3
this might be a bit rambly and disorganized or it might end up really short because honestly going into this i have no idea of what i want to say. just the vibes i want to get across. so this might be dumb but bear with me
i've seen this sentiment from antizionist jews across the board (as well as feeling it myself): being an antizionist jew is really fucking hard right now. it involves a lot of questioning oneself and one's understanding of religion. for many of us it means being isolated from our communities. it's by no means easy.
but something i've seen from converts specifically is having to ask yourselves "is this the religion i chose?" "should i really be converting to a religion like this?" "is it okay for me to want to be jewish when there's a genocide being committed in the name of judaism?"
i'm not a convert. i was born jewish into a jewish family and brought up jewish. i don't know what it's like to be a jew with that history. but i do know know that i love you. i know that zionism will not taint our name forever. i know that, at it's core, judaism upholds antizionist values. i know that being antizionist is a mitzvah. i know that being jewish is an inherently beautiful thing and being antizionist allows that beauty to shine as it is meant to. i know that judaism means loving the world and all its peoples.
and i know that you sought out judaism because of this. i know that you converted, are converting, or wish to convert because of this. not because of the way zionism has portrayed our religion as one of superiority and oppression but because of how our religion is one of love and kindness.
and i know that i love you. do you know that? do you know that i love you? do you know that you are loved by the people and the religion you have joined, are joining, or wish to join? i love you jewish converts.
i saw someone recently say that they had been considering giving up on their conversion and it made me so sad. why would you give up on something that makes you happy? that aligns with your values? that you wanted so desperately to belong to? why would you give up on that? i know why. and it's not fair that you've been made to feel this way. but i love you. and i believe you can still be jewish in a way that is a mitzvah. i believe you can still be jewish in the way you wish to be
don't give up i love you :)

if it's childish to strive for ideal like "world peace" and "an end to world hunger" and "everyone in the world treated equally and kindly" then i'd rather be a child
we were made for community. we were made for kindness. if we aren't striving for a good and kind world then what the fuck are we here for?
You are not childish for wishing the world was better than it is. We were owed that by the people who knew better before us, just like we too will owe the people who’ll come after us. But defeatism does nothing. It puts nothing on the plate you’ll hand to your child, your friend, your lover. You may never live to see the world become as good as it should, but that should never stop you from trying to improve it anyway.

From Jediism to Judaism: Star Wars as Jewish Allegory, by Daniel Perez
A look at some of the Jewish elements – coincidental or otherwise – of Star Wars.
A long time ago in a place far, far away...
It is a period of civil war. A new government has declared the practice of the old faith a crime punishable by death, disbanding an ancient order of sages and sending many into exile. Rebel fighters, striking from a hidden base, have won their first major victory against the evil Empire, stirring a spirit of defiance among the populace. Outarmed and vastly outnumbered, the ragtag band of rebels – aided by an all-powerful, all-permeating Force that binds together all life in the universe – remain the only hope for restoring peace and freedom to their people.
It's one of the greatest epics known to mankind. No, not Star Wars. The above synopsis is actually the story of Hanukkah, the eight-day Jewish festival that commemorates a miraculous victory of Israelite insurgents against the tyrannical Seleucid Empire roughly 2,200 years ago.
With Star Wars Episode VII set to premiere in just a few short weeks, I got to thinking about how certain aspects of the Star Wars universe are eerily similar to the history, beliefs, and teachings of the Jews. Now George Lucas did not set out to create a fantasy universe full of Jewish references, but the connections are nevertheless there. So let's put the “Han” back in Hanukkah (Harrison Ford, by the way, technically a member of the tribe) and look at some of the Jewish elements – coincidental or otherwise – of Star Wars.
A Galaxy of Hebrew Names
The heroes of the Star Wars series are members of a “rebel alliance,” basically Maccabees in outer space. It's right there in the name: Jedi. The Hebrew letter yud is often anglicized as a “J,” and syllables occasionally get dropped in translation. Hence, a Biblical name like “Yehoshua” makes its way into English as “Joshua.” It's not much of a stretch to see how “Jedi” can be derived the original Hebrew word for Jew, “Yehudi.”
Remember Luke Skywalker's Jedi rebbe, Grand Master Yoda? Is it just me, or is his peculiar syntax reminiscent of someone whose first language is Yiddish (“Yodish”)? More to the point, his name sounds a lot like “yada,” the Hebrew word meaning “to know.”
And how about those Skywalkers? Luke Skywalker might sound like a gentile name, but that name was clearly chosen to alliterate with his twin sister Leia (Leah). Also keep in mind that their parents were an interfaith couple. The father, Anakin Skywalker, played by the unmistakably un-Jewish Hayden Christensen, tried to convert to Jediism, but as we know he ultimately turned to the Dark Side instead. Their mother was Queen Amidala, portrayed by the beautiful and talented Israeli-born actress Natalie Portman. Suffice it to say their marriage did not end well, and it wasn't until much later in life that their children discovered their Jedi-ish identity.
Learning Academy
When an aspiring Jedi Knight goes to the Academy, he or she must complete what is essentially an apprenticeship with one more learned in Jediism than they are. Similarly, a future rabbi's yeshiva experience will consist largely of chavruta learning (studying with a partner – lit. “friendship”). Fun fact: The name for a young, unmarried yeshiva student, “bochur,” actually means “chosen” (as in “The Chosen People”). The idea of a foretold “Chosen One” who would “restore balance to the Force” was a theme running throughout the Star Wars films, wherein Anakin Skywalker was recognized for his extraordinary potential as a Jedi. As mentioned above, he went “off the derech” and became the villainous Darth Vader. In Return of the Jedi, however, Vader/Skywalker fulfills the “prophecy” when he does teshuvah (our term for repentance, which literally means “return.” Whoa. Return of the Jedi!), thwarting Emperor Palpatine to save his son's life, and ultimately, the galaxy.
Of course, if you tell a young rabbi-in-training that he is the “Chosen One,” it sounds cool and dramatic and is technically true, but then, the same can be said of all of his classmates.
While the Star Wars films don't feature Jedi trainees delving into sacred texts (it doesn't make for the most exciting movie montage), some of the greatest rabbinic books of ethics and Jewish philosophy would be right at home in any Jedi library. “Duties of the Heart,” “The Path of the Just”....tell me these don't sound like the reading list for a hero of the Light Side.
The Force
While Jediism isn't a theistic religion per se, its practitioners do teach of a Force that, in the words of Reb Obi-Wan Kenobi "...is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us; it binds the galaxy together." That almost sounds like some sort of Chasidic teaching – just replace “energy field” with “entity” or “consciousness,” and “created by,” with “that creates,” and what you have starts to come across less like new age hippie talk and more like an introduction to Kabbalah, Jewish mysticism.
One idea that devout Jews of all stripes share, is that God, the creative “Force” that sustains all, is the source of a Jew's power. “Ein od milvado,” there is none besides Him. The Jew expresses his or her connection to the universe by striving for an ever closer relationship with its Creator.
Another aspect of Jedi belief is the notion of balance, the idea that the Light Side and the Dark Side are both aspects of the same Force seeking equilibrium. The religions that branched off from Judaism tend to show the Creator and Satan, or “The Devil,” in an adversarial relationship, almost a sort of de facto dualistic theology with a God and an anti-God, if you will. Judaism maintains that the Satan (lit. “Accuser”) is the angel associated with temptation, and prosecution in the Heavenly Court. He's basically Slugworth to God's Willy Wonka. He's got a dirty job to do, but in the end, we're both serving the same Boss.
Judaism also teaches that the source of Light and Darkness are One and the same, as it says in the prayer book: “Blessed art Thou, Lord our God, King of the Universe, Who forms light and creates darkness, Who makes peace and creates all things.” The source for this line of liturgy can be found in the Hebrew Bible, Isaiah 45:7: “Who forms light and creates darkness, Who makes peace and creates evil; I am the Lord, Who makes all these.”
Incidentally, one of the traditional names for God – invoked particularly by the Jewish mystics – is HaMakom, literally “The Place.” The deeper idea conveyed by this name is that the Creator does not exist within the universe; the universe exists within Him. It sounds a lot like The Force. The key conceptual difference between the fictitious all-uniting Force of Star Wars and the Shechinah or “Divine Presence” is that the former is impersonal and passive, the latter is an omnipotent consciousness that actively intervenes in human history, speaking with Prophets and working miracles until this very day.
So if you see the new Star Wars movie, directed by Jeffrey Jacob Abrams (who couldn't sound more Jewish if his name was Saul Cohen or Herschel Rosenblatt), perhaps you'll be able to seek out and appreciate the surprisingly Jewish flavor of the Star Wars universe.
Happy Hanukkah, and may the Force be with you!

hi im jewish :)
i love judaism i love my culture i love my people i love jews i love judaism i love the world because i am jewish and if i was not jewish, if i jumped ship as you suggest for yourself, i would have nothing left. my judaism is in every part of me and it is impossible to separate myself from it.
that said, i understand the pain and the confusion. we see this sort of horror and atrocity being carried out in the name of our religion and it hurts. it makes us question "is this what judaism is?" we ask ourselves "is this the religion that i have grown up in?" or for converted jews (which i am not so of course this is based in assumption rather than experience) they may ask "is this the religion i chose to believe in?" we ask ourselves "is judaism built on the suffering and pain of others?"
that moment of uncertainty... it's not pleasant. i feel this every day and i feel it too when i see antisemitism acted in the name of zionism too. i feel it too. i wonder if my antizionism and my judaism are incompatible. i wonder if it would even be possible to give up one in favor of the other despite knowing that both are integral to my being. i wonder and i hurt because of it.
but that uncertainty is not the only thing i feel. i also feel pride at the thought of being jewish. i feel that being antizionist is an act that is holy and i feel that my antizionism is directly in line with the teachings of judaism. i feel that my antizionism is the greatest mitzvah. i feel that it is the mitzvah that brings me closest to god. because it is a mitzvah to try and change the world for the better. it is a mitzvah to try and help all peoples. and it is a mitzvah to live as a jew because being a jew means doing these things. being a jew means working to better the world we live in. being a jew means loving the world as it is designed by nature and loving the people of this world as well. being a jew means loving all palestinians as if they were my own relatives. it means antizionism at its core.
i understand the uncertainty and i understand the pain that uncertainty brings. i understand it and i feel it alongside you. but that uncertainty only pushes me further into my beliefs. i hope that you too will find a way to redirect your own feelings and find more stable footing in your identity. whether you continue to be jewish is up to you of course but i would encourage you to look for what you love about judaism and direct your focus to whatever that is. i had to do the same when my grandfather passed even before being fully confronted by the evils of zionism. so i did have an advantage going into this and i acknowledge it may be even harder to do so in the current climate but i think finding what you love is the key to overcoming what hurts and i hope you are able to do so
Hey Sal, I’m Jewish but I don’t support what Israel is doing at all, it’s frankly disgusting to me and it’s left me questioning my faith…
Should I jump ship or somthing??? Idk it’s hard to talk to anyone about this.
No, why should you question your faith?? Your Jewishness and your faith are about 3000+ years old, Zionism is a hundred years old and was founded by a bunch of secular people. It has no religious basis whatsoever. Don't let the Zionists weaken your faith, you've seen so many Jews fight for the rights of Palestinians. Palestinians are always welcoming to anyone who support them.

Genuinely I think the term “Judeo-Christian” is a white supremacist dog whistle. Basically everything that Judaism and Christianity have in common is also shared by Islam—so why is Islam left out? Because the majority of Muslims aren’t white. Of course a large percentage of Christians and Jews aren’t white either, but the people who use the term “Judeo-Christian” never acknowledge that. It implies that Judaism and Christianity are basically interchangeable, and also frames Jews as being responsible for the rise of christofascism. Do I need to explain how antisemitic that is?
I don’t know if I’ll ever get over Dennis Prager calling Christmas a “Judeo-Christian holiday”. Ah yes, the birth of Jesus Christ, a figure well known for being important in Judaism. Prager is as much a Christian supremacist as a Jew can be without converting—in fact, I’m pretty sure the only reason he hasn’t is so he can keep saying “well I’m Jewish and I support [horrifically racist/islamophobic/antisemitic thing], therefore it can’t be antisemitic! Have I mentioned how much I, a Jewish man, love Christianity and think it’s the best religion ever?”
Do not get me fucking started on the “Judeo-Christian values” of using drone strikes to murder brown people in SW Asia and supporting the Palestinian genocide. Fuck everyone who uses this rhetoric.

I haven’t made a Halloween costume this year but I was planning to be cassian andor. It is probably a good thing I did not make a sw Halloween costume as in the last three weeks I have been radicalized against us-based franchises that exist to metaphorise the real suffering of people in the global south and Jews into a sci fi conflict that has by capitalist nature to go on forever in order to keep making money and also by the fact far too many members of the sw fanon thought that it was appropriate to compare the rebellion to h amas. However it is all very horrifically metatextual to me in the number of emotionally and personally uninvolved people who have now made themselves in less than a month experts on not only the Middle East but all things to do with Jews. Oh? This is real for you? suddenly this is real for you? I’ve been in this fight since I was (1)6 and beginning to reconnect with my Judaism and everyone in my class including my teacher screamed at me that I had to accept the fact that the Jews actually did kill Jesus and that was a thing we did

though i feel ashamed to admit it, that was actually a viewpoint that i ascribed to when i was a stupid teenager on twitter. somehow i only thought that about christianity and not about islam though? idk the logic isn't anywhere near solid don't look into it too much. character development happened though so ofc i now understand why that's a really really weird and dumb way to interpret things but
genuinely i think it's a really easy way for a jew to view the world. especially as an american jew it's very easy to think christians have it out for us and it's really easy to feel afraid of the world in general.
i don't know about other jews but for me personally i remember being taught a lot about how we've been oppressed and hated throughout history. the holocaust, the spanish inquisition, contemporary conspiracy and naziism. my own great grandfather changing his last name because he couldn't get jobs as a jewish man in new york. i was taught about how we had to hide. i was taught about all the things we had to run from. but i wasn't taught about fighting back
i was taught about jewish rebellion as it exists in the torah like in the stories of moses or the maccabees but never about anything more modern. i was taught about the heroes of old, not about my options in the present. i was taught that antisemitism is everywhere and that i should be constantly wary, while simultaneously being taught that there is ultimately nothing i could do about it.
it's very easy to be afraid of the whole world. and watching american christians have their "easter seders" every year and watching them say the hamotzi over their communion and whatever the fuck messianic "judaism" is supposed to be... all that only makes it easier and easier to direct our fear at christianity as a whole. when you've never seen anything but american christianity it's very easy to believe that all christianity is like that. it's very easy to think that's all christianity has ever been and all it will ever be. it's very easy to think christianity is a religion made of hatred and appropriation. it's very easy to shut out anyone and anything that tries to convince us otherwise
we need to stop making it easy. we need to be teaching our communities that solidarity is vital to our survival. that sure we have been oppressed but if we let fear govern our lives we will become hateful ourselves. we can't keep teaching insularity. we can't keep teaching fear.
we need to teach our children the beauty of rebellion.

This sounds like a joke but I have seen zionists say Islam and Christianity are appropriations of Judiasm so I'm pretty sure he meant this fjskslfkkg

What I meant about Buddhism not being Catholicism is that a lot of IGNORANT Western SW fans conflate Buddhism and Catholicism together, when they're obviously two different religions. But because so many Westerners had religious trauma (which I understand), they see Buddhism and all other religions as Catholicism (this includes Lesyle Headland). Also, I recently saw another racist bitch in the Jedi tags, thinking that the Jedi are influenced by Catholicism. That's my problem right there.
oh hello there again, I was worried you wouldn’t reply, most anon like your say something and never look back😭
Also, it is a fact that Jedis aren’t inspired by Catholicism, even if, the jedi religion, as George Lucas stated, is also actually based on another type of Christianity, but not Catholicism:
“Lucas stated, were thus based on all religions in the real-world, as he constructed Star Wars mainly from Methodism—or Christianity, Islam, and Judaism—and Buddhism. Based on his beliefs, George Lucas explained, one of the the core values of Star Wars, one of the problems of the struggle in Star Wars, is about passion against compassion, which is greed against giving and letting go.” -from Wookieepedia
Peoples brain have been burned up recently, I also saw some posts in that direction, but I am JUST SO TIRED, of explaining everything. Honestly so mad that Disney keeps getting money of all of this and we are just screaming into a void. People not seeing the good in the jedi worries me, beacuse how can you miss THAT much?
I’m sorry, some people can’t be convinced, they are stubborn. Even Plato said to do not debate the stupids, because you can’t change them.
Sorry if this is poorly written, I’m currently on holiday and it’s 1:39am and I’m exhausted🫶
