I'm watching Around the world with Willy Fogg with my son since he has a project in school about travels and foreign countries. This is a Spanish cartoon from my childhood I remember dearly precisely because how aesthetically pleasant was looking at Romi (the equivalent to Aouda from the novel) and not only that, Romi is a good character, yes, she is shy, complacent and even a bit submissive, but she is hopeful, brave, kind and loyal. Maybe is not the perfect role model for a modern girl, but sometimes you only need to see someone who is, simply, nice.

Yeah this show is ancient and it's also depicting a novel with ancient values, so you have to overlook over it. It's enjoyable in any case.

And sorry, Princess Romi (a princess, of course!) is so cute so cute and has the most pleasing palette 🥹

With Ryusei, because of our reoccurring vermin imagery (him a cockroach and me a rodent), every time we see like. an advertisement for an extermination company or something of the sort one of us points it out like 'our mortal enemies' and we laugh like idiots every time

Takashi and I have known each other for forever, so we have a lot of little inside jokes...but we do get a kick out of old pics of middle school romy who purposefully dressed badly when we had a fight just to torment him 😭 things can be getting tense and he'll say "I hope I don't make you break out the ugly sweater again" and we laugh it off <3

I don't know if there is any one piece of media that inspires my writing. but sometimes when I have very bad writer's block I like to reread a good book! I did this recently with The Haunting of Hill House (god I wish I could write like Shirley Jackson) and it usually helps a lot

For self insert fanfiction it's reader being called princess. Biiig no for me for personal reasons. I just can't push past it. Also no paragraph breaks

Tiramisu & Kisses

Summary: A cuddly afternoon.

Waking up, stretching you felt good. Looking down, you smiled Roman was still fast asleep. Turning, and resting on your hand you watched him sleep. He was so soft and handsome.

Blinking, you glanced over at the clock. It was just past noon. Last night, he had so many meetings your head had spun. How he kept them all straight was beyond you. It was hard enough when you had to juggle three clients. After the lights had been lowered in the club and it was just the two of you, he had twirled you around happily. Those little sweet moments always made your heart flutter.

So today, you were going to ask if he could just stay in with you. You had a few ideas, so you snuck out of the bedroom. You called down to the chef.

“Yes, princess?” He was the only who could call you that and not make you angry. He was one of the few members of Roman’s staff that was genuinely sweet. He was already nice to you before Roman made it a thing. He was a chubby older man who could be your grandfather and was an amazing chef.

“I need you to make a dish of Roman’s favorite dessert.”

“Ooh, entire plate of tiramisu?” You could hear the delight in his voice.

“Yes please.”

“Anything else? Perhaps some great sliders, since the two of you can’t just have dessert.”

“With all of the trimmings?” You smiled.

“Of course.”

“Thank you! You’re the best!”

“You know I love making food for special people.”

“I do, I’ll be down a little later.”

“Wait till I message you. I’ll let you when its ready.”

“Thank you.” You hung up crept back to the bedroom, peering around the doorway, you were greeted by Roman’s deep breathing.

You quickly freshened up and then slipped into some comfy shorts and one of his t-shirts. Climbing back into bed you crawled over to him. A smile curled your lips as he was fast asleep and looking as handsome and as soft as ever.

Suddenly, a very loud squeal followed by a giggle came from you as Roman grabbed you and moving you found yourself under him.

“Baby, what are you up to?” A very sleep rumbled Roman hung over you, mischief shone in his eyes.

Gently you reached up running you fingers through his ruffled hair then you demurely shifted under him. “I was hoping to keep you all to myself today.”

“Oh were you?” A smirk played on his lips.

You nodded, wrapped your arms around him. “Yes.”

He looked as if he was considering it. “I was really busy last night wasn’t I?”

“You were. You owned the night.” You beamed.

He drew close. “I couldn’t have done it without my girl sitting beside me.” He kissed you.

Your fingers nestled gently his hair.

“So is this a yes, Romy?”

He smiled, that soft gentle smile only you saw when he’d look your.

“Yes.” He pressed a quick kiss. “Let me go and wash up.”

Once he was in the shower for a bit, you snuck in, you pushed aside the glass door. “Remember to dress comfy.”

He reached out, making you squeal again as the water rained down on you as he kissed you. “I will.”

You wiggled free and shook some of the water off. As you walked away his chuckles bouncing off the marble.

Happily waiting for Roman you sat on the big comfy sofa looking over a magazine. Your phone buzzed to life, looking down you smiled.

FromChef: The tiramisu and food is ready.

ToChef: I’ll be down shortly.

Quickly, you hurried down. You smiled as he was there waiting by the elevator.

“These are the sliders and this the tiramisu, I made some small bowls of it.”

“Thank you so much!” Happily you took the silver cart back into the elevator.

You took the sliders to the kitchen but brought the small tiramisu bowls into the sitting room and decided to keep the big silver cover over them. Settling back on the sofa, you heart sped up as you watched as moments later Roman came into the room stretching. His hair was still wet and you saw the shadows of growth still splashed across his face.

He rose an eyebrow when he saw the covered bowl. “What is that baby?”

You smiled, “Come over and find out.”

Walking over he came over and plopped down, not hesitating he grabbed you by your ankles and pulled you close. He looked you over, his lips twitched upward. “This t-shirt looks familiar.”

You giggled. “You shirts are very comfy.”

He nodded. “That is one of the reasons why I wear them.” He continued to look you over. “So you have all day, what’s on you mind.”

You smiled, “I would like to know more about you.”

He rose his eyebrows. “Really?”

You nodded.

He pressed his lips together. “What do you want to know?”

“Anything you want to share ?”

“I’m impulsive, quick to anger, and I hate messy situations.” He shrugged. “I don’t know,” He sighed. “I’m not very good at this.” Annoyance prickled his voice.

“Tell me something no one else knows.” You smiled. “Besides that you are a blanket hog.”

“You’re the blanket hog.” He rolled his eyes. “I am far from it.”

“You are too.” You giggled.

You noticed then as he grew serious as he looked off, he held your legs a little closer to him. He gave you a side long glance.

“I used to love playing outside when I was little.”

“You would go outside and play?” You were amazed.

He nodded. “I did. I loved it, my parents not so much. Well one day a raccoon bit me.”

“What? No!” You immediately closed the distance and you threw your arms around him.

He wrapped an arm around you. “Hey it’s alright, I’m still here.”

“Yeah, but that’s horrible.”

“Nah, what was horrible was they didn’t let me get treated for it. So fuck family.”

You nodded, looking up at him you could see the anger there but it began to fade as he looked back at you.

“How about you, tell me me something I don’t know.” He rose his eyebrow challengingly.

“I used to dance ballet.”

He smiled and his arm around you tightened. “Did you wear sweet little tutus?”

You beamed. “I did.”

“I bet you were incredibly cute.”

“I was.”

“I think I like that image, me mucking about and you in pretty little tutus when we were kids.”

Sometime later you smiled at him. “Are you ready to see what’s in the bowl?”

He smiled. “Sure.”

“Close your eyes first and make room for me in your lap.”

He smirked and closed his eyes. “I think I like the sound of that.”

Getting up, you went over to where the bowl was covered. You glanced back over your shoulder. “Romy! No peaking!”

He chuckled and then actually covered his eyes then.

Lifting the lid, you smiled they looked divine. You took one of the little bowls and one of the spoons.

You eyed room and was tickled to no end. There was the infamous Roman Sionis, who was yours sitting there in a pair of silky pajama pants and a t-shirt.

You noticed that he had shifted a bit to make it easier for you. With a sigh you settled in his lap. “Romy, you are so comfy.” You said pleased.

“You fit perfectly in it baby.”

You flushed, “I’m glad I do.” You considered the situation. “Romy, please keep your eyes closed but you can bring your hands down.”

He made a hesitant sound. “Alright.”

When you saw him there with his dark lashes resting on his cheek and there was a soft line of his lips. Holding up the bowl and spoon, you could not resist leaning in and giving him a kiss.

A soft sound came from him as he kissed you back. He pulled a soft sound from you as his warm hands settled on your hips. His thumbs managing to sneak under his t-shirt, gently he caressed your sides.

“You’re not playing fair.” You gently pulled back.

He smirked with his eyes still closed. “I always make up my own rules baby, you should know that.”

“I do.” You felt flutters in your stomach, knowing full well what he does when he makes up his own rules. “Now, open your mouth for me.”

He complied.

Your brought the bowl back down and the spoon. Dipping it in, you took a fair amount onto the spoon. “Ok enjoy this.” You warned.

His eyes snapped open when he discovered what he was enjoying. His eyes shone with joy.

“Baby!” He exclaimed and he let you feed him more. “Your turn.” He knew how much you enjoyed it too.

When the light of the day began to fade, Roman smiled. “One moment.” He went and put the lights on dim.

Roman, held you close and kiss the top of your head. “This has been nice.”

Turning, your head you smiled at him. “You think so.”

He nodded. “Yeah, now I know what kind of candies you like and that my girl used to twirl about in tutus.”

You smiled. “I do like the idea of knowing you played outside and had even acquired all the pieces in your penthouse yourself. You were quite the adventurer before carving out your slice of Gotham.”

He beamed. He had enjoyed telling you about some of his adventures. As silence fell delightfully over them, giggles erupted between the two of you when your stomach grumbled but it was soon followed by his which made both you laugh even harder.

“I guess we’re a little hungry.” You giggled again looking up at him.

(Roman Sionis x Reader)

Summary: Celebrating Roman's birthday will be different this year.

(A/n): I did Roman bit of OOC (out of character), hope you don't mind that. @stardancerluv, your fanfiction Gotham lockdown 2020 is awesome 😍, I highly recommend it to ya all!

It was 6 am and Roman Sionis was standing in front of mirror, looking at himself with worries. Tomorrow he was turning 35. He felt kinda old. On his birthdays he always took you to some fancy restaurant and you both did whatever he wished and wanted. But this day was not like he expected. He hoped that these worries will be gone soon.

He looked at you. You were sleeping peacefully. How did he deserved you?

He got dressed and walked out of the room to living room, which he also used as dining room and meeting place for friendly bussines.

"Boss?" Victor came to Roman and gave him two coffee cups.

"Thanks Victor," Roman mumbled and put one coffee cup down, "I'll bring that one to (Y/n)."

"Okay boss."

Roman turned and went back to bedroom. You were still sleeping and he put the cup down on bedside table, sitting next to you. He brushed his hand through your hair, kissing you on forhead.

"Babe, I brought you coffee. Victor made it."

You slowly opened eyes, just to meet Roman's beautifull ocean blue eyes.

"Good morning honey," you mumbled.

"Morning," Roman whispered.

"Oh, my god! I.. Forgot.." you suddenly yelled, getting up, running to bathroom to take a shower.

Roman walked to you, "What did you forgot?"

"Ehm..Nothing, I just have a lot for today," you turned and closed the doors.

Your oddly behavior made Roman think about his age again. Was he too old? Somewhere in his mind was lurking scary question, which he didn't wanted to bring to light: What if you don't love him anymore becouse of his age? There was few years difference between you two, but what if you preferred younger guys. What if somebody took you away from him? What if you left with that somebody?

With these thoughts Roman left down to club. There was few people, which was normal, becouse it was morning and this was night club. Tears were falling down from his eyes, so he just sat to the corner of the club, waiting for Victor.

After 30 minutes of waiting, Roman decided to call him through the phone.

"Victor? Where are you? I am waiting in club, I thought you would be here on time," Roman said.

"I.. I am sorry boss, I have terrible headache and I think it would be best if I stayed home for today," Victor said and after that, Roman cancelled the call.

"Did he bought it?" you asked Victor, giving him bags with gifts.

"Yea.. I.. Don't know he cancelled the call. Besides that, where you want to bake the cake?" Victor asked. You opened the trunk of the car for Victor who carefully put the gifts next to each other.

"That could be bad.." you entered the car and waited for Victor, "Roman has one safe house close to the Wayne building.. So there. I bought all ingredients that we need, flour and stuff."

"Yeah," said Victor. He was worrying about Roman too. You and Victor were preparing surprise birthday party for Roman, which you never did to him before so you were bit stressed about his reaction.

You started the car, leaving shopping center parking lot.

"But what if he's not going to like it? I mean.. he looked so anxious this morning."

"I noticed," Victor said and pointed to the right, "Here turn right, it's a shortcut."

"Okay, but seriously Victor. I'm afraid that if we leave him alone for whole day, he could do something bad," you said and turned to the right.

"We have to hope he's alright," Victor sighed and looked from window. When you parked your car near the safe house, your phone started beeping and you exchanged with Victor worried look.

"It's Roman," you whispered.

"Pick it up (Y/n)," Victor mouthed and you nodded.

"Hey honney, how are you," you asked Roman with a sweet tone, which you regreted afterwards, since it was very suspicious. Luckily Roman didn't noticed that.

"Hey, where are you? I can't find you anywhere, could you please come to apartment please, I am not feeling well and I need you today," Roman sounded desperate and sad. It poked your heart and you looked on Victor, putting the phone away.

"He's not feeling well," you whispered to Victor and then took the phone back to your ear.

"Babe, please, I'll be there, but I have some business to do now. But I promise i'll be back as fast as I can," you said and watched Victor to unlock the doors of the safe house.

"Okay," Roman sniffled and you wanted to run back to Black Mask club to hug him and comfort him.

"Victor, we have to be fast with baking that cake," you cancelled the call and told this to Victor who just nodded.

Whole afternoon, you two were baking birthday cake and then, when it was finished, you smiled and hoped Roman is going to like it. The cake was filled with chockolate and strawberies, decorated with flowers from sugar paste.

"Victor? Launch the operation party time," you turned to Victor who smiled and pulled out his phone, "from now on, it's mostly on you. I'll go for Roman."

You walked to the car, picking the phone calling Roman, "Hey, babe I am comming, could you please wait for me in front of your club?"

"Hey darling, sure," Roman sighed and cancelled the call.

You were sure you crossed the driving limit more than five times, but you had to be there first.

When you finaly saw the club and Roman waiting outside, you parked and exited the car.

"Roman," you hugged him, you saw that he had red eyes from crying.

"I missed you," he hugged you back and gave you quick kiss. Roman was usually confident, but when he was anxious he was either very angry or slightly depressed.

"I missed you too babe, but we have to go to the safe house, becouse I have some informations that somebody wants to attack the club today," you said, pulling him to his car.

"(Y/n)... I.. What?" Roman was upset, but exhausted.

"I'm taking you to safe house," you have him another kiss, but he moved away.

"Roman..What happened?" you cupped his cheeks. You didn't wanted to make your birthday boy sad or upset.

"Nothing, let's go," Roman entered to car, and you hoped that Victor and his friends will handle the preparations for the party.

Even after entering the safe house Roman didn't spoke to you.

"Babe, what's going on?" you asked him. Roman just hugged you and held you in his arms, "I don't want to lose you (Y/n). You mean so much to me. Please don't leave me."

You were surprised, but hugged him anyways.

"Why would you think I would leave you? Romy, you know I wouldn't leave you. I love you so much," you smiled, one tear dropped from your eye. Was this the reason he was sad?

"I just.. I'm getting old and today you have been so distant.. After a long time I felt.. Lonely," he sniffled into your jacket.

"Don't say that. I'm here now dear," you whispered and when Roman pulled away you fixed his suit, "What would you say on special dinner Mr. Sionis?"

"I would love that," Roman smiled.

These situations were so often, that neither of you were stressed. Situations where you had to hide in safe houses which were all around the Gotham.

You were calm becouse you knew this was just a distraction. Roman was calm, becouse he knew you both are safe here.

For dinner, you brought some frozen pizza in Roman's car, since you had to leave your car in front of Black Mask club becouse it was filled with gifts for Roman. Victor had keys and everything was perfectly planned. When you left the safe house 1, where Victor stayed, he called his friends to stop by, take the cake in refrigerated van. You had no idea from where those guys took it and in first place, why they had it, but you rather didn't asked. After you left with Roman to safe house 2, Victor and his friends would decorate the club.

"Babe, I think the pizza is finished," Roman looked into oven and tried to open it without burning himself.

"Ohh.. Handle it to me princess," you laughed and opened the oven to get out the yummy pizza. After it was out, Roman closed the oven and caught your hips, hugging you from behind.

"Who do you call princess, my queen?" Roman laughed and kissed your neck multiple times.

"So.. Before or after pizza?" you smirked.

Birthday day

"Romy, wake up," you whispered and gently tapped him on cheek.

"What?" he asked half asleep, half conscious.

"I am leaving you. I can't do this, I can't be with you anymore," you told him and Roman's eyes widened in fear.

Roman woke up, with drops of sweat on face. He immediately turned to your side of bed to assure you were there, with him. But you weren't.

"(Y/n)?" Roman got up, from bed. You just exited the bathroom, closing the doors behind you.

"What happened?"

"I.. Nothing, just a nightmare," Roman mumbled and went back to bed with you. You slept on his shoulder, since Roman insisted on holding you in his arms.

You weren't protesting, you felt safe.

"Love? Good Morning," Roman was sitting next to you on bed, giving you cup of coffee.

"Morning my king," you smiled and took a sip from hot coffee, "Thank you, and happy birthday Roman."

Roman smiled and gave you a kiss. You looked on clock to check time, it was 10 am. Party was planned at 8 pm and you hoped everything is going according plan. Few years ago, you asked Roman if he ever had surprise birthday party. He said that he never had one. You did not wanted to risk it back then, becouse you didn't know why he never had parties like these. Maybe he did not liked being surprised. As time went, you learned that Roman actually loved surprises and only reason why he never had this kind of party was becouse nobody ever prepared something like that for him. When you learned that, you were kind of sad for him, becouse you knew that Roman was always bringing you, but only you with him out on his birthday and he bought you expensive things. Of course you always gave him gifts, Victor did too, but sometimes you had that feeling that Roman is giving more than recieving. Once he told you that others are giving him gifts just becouse they are afraid of him. This didn't targeted you, but you knew that nobody would want Roman as an enemy.

After breakfast, Roman took you out for walk and lunch to most famous restaurant in town.

In restaurant troubles began, since Victor texted you that something is wrong with preparations.

"So, I told him to go back there and he.. (Y/n)?" Roman called your name, when he noticed you were texting with someone.

"What? I'm sorry, I.. Just.. Sorry," you looked away from phone, listening Roman's stories. You wanted to pay attention to him, since it was his birthday, but your thoughts were dwelling on the party problem.

-You have to fix it, fast. I'm with Roman in restaurant, I can't speak to you right now.-

You wrote Victor and gave a reassuring smile to Roman.

"Babe, what's wrong?" Roman asked you with raised eyebrows, slowly sipping from his glass of vine.

"I.. Got a text.. It's about bussines," you told, slipping your phone back to handbag, hoping that Roman is not going to ask anything about it.

"Can I help?"

"No!" you answered too fast and Roman noticed. You knew that his worries from yesterday didn't dissapeared and you had to hope that he's not thinking about you, cheating on him on his birthday. Roman was paranoid, of course he already thought of that, but still he wanted to enjoy his birthday with you. He frowned and put the empty glass down. He didn't wanted to think about losing you now.

"Babe, you know that if something bad happens, I'll help you with it," Roman caught your hand and you smiled.

"I know, thanks."

After lunch you both went to shopping place. Roman bought you 3 expensive dresses even when you didn't wanted him to give you gifts, becouse it was his birthday. But that was just how Roman was to you. After another coffee, you looked on watches, seeing that it would be ideal time to go back to club.

"Darling? We should go back to club."

"But babe, it's only six. At seven we have dinner in the restaurant where was our first date..." Roman started and you gave him little smile.

"Aww, that is so cute... But unfortunately we have to go back to club. Just to pick up something," you nervously hugged him, but Roman pushed you away.

"What's going on with you (Y/n)?" he was nervous and afraid.

"Nothing, just.. Please," you made puppy eyes at him and he nodded.

"Alright, alright."

Way to club was silent, but when you closed the doors on the car and went to check Roman, who was sitting in backseat as usual.

"Hey, are you going?" you knocked on car window.

Roman opened it and sticked his head out.

"No."

"Babe, c'mon, don't be so stubborn," you laughed, but already thought how are you going to get him out of the car.

"I said no."

You frowned and opened the doors.

"Don't you even think about locking yourself there, I have keys."

"Alright...I'll go, but for an exchange.. You will have to do somethi.." he leaned to kiss and you kissed him, in middle of his sentence. After you parted from eachother, Roman exited the car and you opened the doors into quiet and dark club.

"Are you sure it's safe here?" Roman asked.

"Yeah, sure," you put down your coat and ran to club.

Roman turned to you, but you weren't anywhere near.

"Babe?" he called into club, slowly approaching it.

As he entered the club, colorful lights lighted up and Roman saw group of people standing in middle of the dance floor.

"Happy birthday!!" everybody yelled and Roman covered his mouth with hands. He was surprised in a good way.

"Happy birthday babe," you slowly came to him and gave him hug.

"I... Thank you..." Roman was speechles, smiling on you, Victor and people who were there. He knew all of them very good, they were his good friends.

You gave him gift wrapped in golden paper. Roman opened it and found inside the box watches that he always wanted.

"Thank you (Y/n)," he gave you gratefull smile.

After he opened all gifts, in which were paintings and new suits, you brought cake. Roman loved it and that was when his worries about losing you dissapeared.

"Will you dance with me Mr. Sionis?" you came to him and offered him hand. Roman laughed and kissed your hand.

"Of course Mrs. Sionis," quiet slow music started to play and Roman took you on dance floor. Victor was running around with camera, assuring that there are gonna be lot photos from this birthday party.

As you danced, Roman pulled you closer and music stopped. Others clapped and you blushed, hiding your face in shoulder of your loved one.

Faster music started to play and others joined the dancing too.

Everything went good, and in late hours, when party ended, you went with Roman upstairs to shared apartment.

"Thank you. I loved this. I love you," Roman kissed you, holding you in his arms.

"I love you too," you kissed him too and he pulled you into bedroom, closing the doors.

Usagi Tsukino. I always feel so alike to her she loves to eat, is lazy, bad grades, kind, friendly,cry baby, she care about others first, is a dreamer and a hopeless romantic. as same as me she also get scared of a lot of things but i am strong when i should be, for me it was always amazing seeing a superheroine being like me in all ways ok except phisically it makes me think i can be someone great like usagi. that character have a special place in my heart besides being part of my childhood.

Rae Earl. The main character from my mad fat diary Rae is alike me in the way she is so insecure, anxious, how she see herself as the worse and disgusting, that she doesn’t deserve good things or that good things never last.

Robo-Dyne Systems

The Freedom Fighters have set out to go rescue Tommy from New Megaopolis. Sally expresses worry that she didn't tell her father they were coming on this mission, while Sonic is surprised that Sally has elected to come along at all given her anger with him for wanting to go on missions. She says that since Tommy is a childhood friend of hers as well she wants to be there to rescue him, and this is good enough for Sonic, who is just happy to have a hint of the old Sally back.

Nicole calculates a route through the buildings to the factory, and the team makes their way there, realizing that this is specifically a factory to produce lifelike robots when they see a number of said robots without their covering of skin and fur. Apparently Eggman is unaware that Robotnik tried this once before, and it was an abject failure. They make their way deeper in, and are shocked by what they see there.

They're discovered by a swatbot patrol, and Sonic leaps into action to fight while Rotor puts together a plan to electrocute the floor, thereby taking out all the swatbots. Sally swoops in to grab Sonic off the floor before he's caught in it, and makes a weird quip about hoping he's not embarrassed about being saved by a girl, which seems totally out of place considering their history. I mean, when has Sonic's personality ever included even a hint of an opinion of guys being better than girls? He has the utmost respect for Sally and Bunnie as valuable members of the team, and regularly encourages everyone around him regardless of gender. The only place I can even think of her getting this idea is during her year without Sonic, since her parents and the monarchy in general seem to be a bit more stuck in traditional gender roles. But regardless, Sonic and Sally get separated from the others, and Sally decides to trust Bunnie, Antoine, and Rotor to handle blowing the facility up while she and Sonic focus on saving Tommy. However, at the same time, Rotor finds himself and his friends being approached by… Sonic and Sally, who act like they've been searching all over for them. Rotor becomes suspicious when he notices Nicole isn't strapped to Sally's hip like usual…

The three take out the imposter Sally and Sonic, while the real ones have a happy reunion with Tommy, and both teams make their way to the facility's rooftop once the bombs are in place. They're tailed by a huge swatbot force, and have no way to get back to Tails and the Freedom Fighter Special, but suddenly…

The bombs go off as they zoom away to safety, and Sonic cheekily tries to pull a "See, being on missions isn't so bad!" on Sally. She huffs and reminds him that they still have to find a way to explain this to her father, which he admits he forgot. Ultimately, it still seems like she's upset with him, but they're no longer as cold as they were after the party when she slapped him, so that's good at least.

Mobius 25 Years Later: Trouble in Paradise

This story is a bit weird. Essentially, we follow both Sonic and Sally, and Knuckles and Julie-Su, through their mornings on the day of their families' get-together. Each page is divided in two from top to bottom, with Sonic's side of things on the left side, and Knuckles' on the right. It's an interesting and creative idea in theory, but in practice it doesn't work very well, as the conversations between both sides are very different and the action (well, "action") doesn't flow well if you try to read it page by page. It's actually better to read each side in isolation, focusing first on the left then the right. I'll just explain the conflict of each side on their own, and then show a page that manages to exemplify the conflict of both sides at once.

Sonic is reluctant to go on the trip because apparently he and Knuckles had some big fight last year that they're both still mad about, but Sally forces him to go along anyway. On the way there he's quiet, and Sally asks him what's wrong, and he decides this is the perfect time to voice his misgivings about being king. I reiterate - he's been king for over fifteen years now, even started a family in that time and been an active force in raising a future prince and princess, and never once given any sign of his unhappiness, and now suddenly he's deciding to make it known that he doesn't like his position. Sally rightly points out that he should have known what he was getting into when he married her, and while that explanation makes sense for this timeline, it's weak when you compare it to what we've actually seen in the comic's main plot. Present Sally has repeatedly rejected the idea of being her father's successor in the future, and though I can see her stepping up out of duty if necessary, it's clear that in the end, she doesn't actually want to be queen. Sonic meanwhile, as he points out, thrives on adventure and freedom, and isn't much of a leader in broad terms, making him a poor fit for king. I honestly can't see the Sonic we know putting his relationship with Sally over his own freedom. I really think that despite his deep love for her, if it came down to a choice between being railroaded into being a king, and being able to keep his freedom to go on adventures and do whatever he wants, he'd choose the latter. It just seems bizarrely out of character for him to somehow sulk his way through fifteen years of kinghood just to start complaining about it out of nowhere on the way to a dinner party with his now-apparent enemy.

Oh, speaking of which! On Knuckles' side of things, he finds himself being awoken by a worried Julie-Su, who is frustrated that he won't talk to her lately (gee, can you notice a pattern here? Every married couple in this timeline seems to have a weirdly unhealthy relationship with each other and it sucks). He evades her questions as they get ready in the morning, but eventually confirms that he's not at all pleased about Sonic coming over. He's also angry about whatever it is that happened last year, but turns out this isn't even what Julie-Su is worried about. She had already expected him to be hostile to Sonic, but she still feels like he's keeping something from her, so he tells her about Rotor's suspicions about the weather. He doesn't yet have enough information to tell her more about what's going on, but she merely reassures him that they'll get through it "as a family," and they head downstairs with Lara-Su and Abby to greet the royal family, who have just arrived at the door. And now, the promised example page:

You see how weird and disjointed it is to follow? Eh, whatever. The only important things we even learn in this issue are that Sonic is unhappy as king (shocker there), and that something happened between him and Knuckles a year ago that's made them hate each other, although there still seems to be something more to their enmity than we've been told. All together, this arc is dragging on insanely slow so far. I could literally condense everything we've seen into two, maybe three stories by cutting a lot of the unnecessary chatter and constant repetition of plot points we've already heard several times over. Like, yes, we get it Penders, the weather is bad. We already heard that the first forty-seven times you told us. *sigh*

One Part Ooh-La-La, and Two Parts Treachery!

So we've established that Antoine has had some strange changes in his personality while Sonic was away in space - namely, that he has become cold and distant, caring more about war than his friends, even Bunnie. One day, he's planning an acceptance speech for his promotion to escort for the king and queen while they're away from Knothole when he accidentally stumbles upon a note Bunnie had written him some time ago - all the way back when Robotnik had first been defeated, in fact. Antoine had received a letter from someone and was reading it when Bunnie came into the room, startling him. With an obvious guilty conscience, he tried to pretend like nothing was wrong, even fleeing the room and trying to hide in the forest, but when Bunnie caught him easily she made him explain what was the matter. He admitted that when he was a kid, there was a girl he had a crush on, Tatiana, and he did everything he could to impress her, including bragging about his exploits as a Freedom Fighter.

The letter he was trying to hide from Bunnie was, of course, from Tatiana, who had by now grown up and was visiting Knothole, wanting to see him now that they were older. Of course, at that exact moment Tatiana burst from the bushes and happily embraced Antoine, flirting heavily and implying she'd like to "catch up" over by the lake. Antoine greeted her graciously, but as Bunnie began to get jealous he rejected Tatiana entirely, pointedly putting his arm around Bunnie and mentioning that he was about to go on a walk with his girlfriend, leaving a shocked Tatiana behind. Once they were out of earshot, Antoine admitted to Bunnie that after Tatiana broke his heart before, he'd become scared of falling in love - until Bunnie came along and showed him what real love was like. This seems to be a bit at odds with what we saw before in the comic, considering he had an obvious crush on Sally for a while there - but regardless, Bunnie made him happy, and that moment was the first time he said he loved her. Aww, they're so sweet together! And thus, we come back to the present, where Antoine is rereading Bunnie's old note to him.

Ouch.
