Finished my beloved Halibut Sweater!
This was amazing to knit and even more amazing to wear. The colorwork is spectacular to look at, this has hardly come off me since finishing it. Living my fisherman dream in this.
This was designed by Caitlin Hunter (cannot recommend the pattern enough) and I used the Fibrr Co.’s Lore (which I also can’t recommend enough despite the price)

I want to challenge your pattern finding ability. Namor?
listen, I know that Namor doesn't wear shirts
I know the man is barely dressed at all
I know
But I can't resist putting him in the Halibut Sweater by Caitlin Hunter, especially not after I got tispy at Ren Faire and made a fleeting friend over their beautiful Halibut Sweater
I'd knit it with Emer: Beechwood and Emer: Harbour from Wild Atlantic Yarns

The Halibut Sweater
If you have existed at all, anywhere in the fiber arts community, especially in the knitting corners or sides of social media then you no doubt have heard or seen this sweater
The Halibut Sweater by Caitlin Hunter has taken the knitting world by storm. It's a cute and really interesting color work pattern. Now for me, the main reason I saw this sweater and wanted to make it for myself is there is a type of yarn called Metallico. It's this lovely worsted weight yarn that has a metallic shine to it. I wanted to knit something that would do this yarn justice and I fully believe that the Halibut sweater is the thing. Why? Because fish scales lol. I have plans.
So that is the example of Metallico in the color silver sapphire. It was what I originally wanted but, unfortunately they are out of stock and I have no idea when it will come back. So, instead I decided to use a different color. Here is where my brilliant plan went to the left.
The color scheme I wish for is the main body to be done in their Friends Wool in Navy (see pictured below) and the fish to be done in the above picture. Wasn't gonna happen due to stocking reasons. Instead, I was "Oh I'll just use one of their other colors." Some of their more easily available stock are in a copper tone so, I know that it'll go really well with the navy.
Unfortunately, I got hit with the color difference. I.E. I kept waffling which of the colors to use. So, I bought 3 skeins of the Friends Wool Navy and then 1 skein of each Metallico color I think would go best. Listen there is only so much of the screen I can stare at and flipping a coin wasn't exactly helping me. That way, I can do a test swatch of each of the colors in the chart. It is so I can directly see how the colors will play with each other and if I need to go get a different color choice.
The colors I selected from the Metallico selection are: Rose Pearl, Golden Sand, and Pearl White. I want the metallic shine to show off the best and out of the remaining in stock colors, those were the ones I vibed with the most. Now all to do for it is to wait for it to come in the mail.
As for the needle sizes, I will be knitting this in a bigger size needle. Not by much. I will be using a US 7 (4.5mm) for the color work and a US 6 (4mm) for the rest. The ribbing I am torn on doing it in the US 5 (3.75) or should I just do it in the US 6 (4mm)?? I will figure it out by the time I do the sweater...I hope. I don't mind switching to a slightly bigger needle and yarn weight. Mainly for this is what I want to do the sweater in so, this is what I will be using. I am going to have all the yarn be in the Medium 4 weight for this project and I will keep you all posted on my progress!!!
