Bite-Sized! Monday Update 1
I have found all beasts that will fill the bestiary for the game.
Lizards in this world are called Drakes and there are quite a few to find, such as:
Broad-Headed Skinks
Coal Skinks
Common Five-Lined Skinks
Eastern Glass Lizards
Little Brown Skinks
Six-Lined Racerunner
Slender Glass Lizard
There is a single feline beast available to fight which is a bobcat.
Fish are another section in the bestiary. Consisting of:
Black Crappies
Bluegills
Bowfins
Common Carp
Red Swamp Crayfish
Warmouths
Different birds, which are referred to as Raptors, are some of the most difficult enemies. These birds are:
American Kestrels
Butcher Birds
Carolina Wrens
Crows
House Sparrows
Northern Cardinals
Red-winged Blackbirds
Song Sparrows
Rodents can also be found across the region. These rodents consist of:
Chipmunks
Common Muskrats
House Mice
Moles
Pocket Gophers
Shrews
Squirrels
Water Drakes, also known as amphibians, are there to defeat in combat. There are many to encounter, such as:
American Bullfrogs
American Green Treefrogs
Eastern Newts
Fowler’s Toads
Gray Treefrogs
Green Frogs
Marbled Salamanders
Spotted Salamanders
Spring Peepers
Woodhouse’s Toads
Snakes, also known as Wyrms, prowl the area. These deadly ambush predators are:
Dekay’s Brownsnakes
Eastern Garter Snakes
Eastern Hog-nosed Snakes
Glossy Swampsnakes
North American Racers
Plain Bellied Water Snakes
Red-bellied Snakes
Rough Greensnakes
Western Ribbon Snakes
Ending off the list of beasts are the Wyverns, which is the name for bats. These Wyverns include:
Big Brown Bats
Eastern Red Bats
Evening Bats
Hoary Bats
Mexican Free-tailed Bats
Silver-haired Bats
Southeastern Myotis
Tricolored Bats
There will also be insectoid enemies that you will be able to fight. Can you guess what area in the Americas this game's first setting takes place in?

Goodness Snakes Alive - Water Moccasin Fight
There are just a few things in this world that creep me out and one of them is entwined snakes. These two male water moccasins are battling it out for the right to mate with a big fat female languishing on the shore who is waiting it out by her snake hole. Yeeesh! I’ve witnessed this kind of duel before and it never ceases to churn my stomach.

The Sensational Alex Harvey Band “Next” 1973. Joe’s been in DC for work this past week but during some free time he’s been checking out area record stores and record shows so I’ve been getting random texts (and photos of him crate digging) asking if we have this or that album in our collection.
Tumblr media
I realized the collection had gotten a bit out of hand when he asked me to look for something I’ve never heard of only to discover we have three albums by the band. That would, in this case, be the glam/hard rock/cabaret mashup The Sensational Alex Harvey Band so I chose the oldest one we have - their second LP Next. From their Wiki entry: “The Sensational Alex Harvey Band was one of the most unconventional bands that were part of the 1970s glam rock era. Fronted by Alex Harvey accompanied by Zal Cleminson on guitar, bassist Chris Glen, keyboard player Hugh McKenna and drummer Ted McKennatheir music veered from progressive rock to experimental jazz, around a core of experimental and avant garde rock, dealing with themes from environmentalism to chinese take away food. While they achieved an almost legendary status in the UK, they struggled to make a huge impact in the USA.” Two of the singles from Next were released just in the UK, the 50′s-style rocker “Giddy Up A Ding Dong” and “The Faith Healer.” “The Faith Healer” became a hit in England; it’s a “creepy tale of a religious con artist that blends an intense vocal from Harvey with a thunderous, guitar-driven wall of sound production.” (Allmusic) It’s a fairly epic track, running over seven minutes, and at times reminded me a lot of current psych rockers King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard (who I’m much more familiar with). The single “Swampsnake” was a US-only release which Allmusic calls “a frenzied reading of a ribald Jacques Brel tune that effectively pits Harvey's anguished wail against lovely orchestrations.”

English songstress Gemma Ray made her New Zealand debut in the intimate confines of Auckland’s Golden Dawn last night. She and her band were a bit road weary, but put on a stellar show, nonetheless.
Having touched down from Australia just hours before, Gemma Ray and co took the stage at The Golden Dawn bringing plenty of atmospheric noir to the Ponsonby venue. The trip across the Tasman was apparently not smooth, with the group being hassled by Australian customs officials who, according to Ray, savaged” her precious hollow-body electric guitar.
Fortunately, the guitar survived its ordeal and Gemma coaxed many thrilling sounds out of it during the hour-long set, added by an impressive band of effects pedals.
Opening the show was solo performer Gris-de-Lin, who also happens to be in Gemma’s band. Gris put on a very impressive show, sounding a bit like PJ Harvey and singing songs about Ghosts, Dead Wives and bloodthirsty 17th century women.  She told be after the show that she is working with Bad Seeds drummer Jim Sclavunos and Joe Gideon on a new project that sounds very cool. You can check out her single, Your Ghost, here:
Gemma Ray’s most recent album is 2016’s Exodus Suite, is something of a concept record based in a dystopian future, not far from now. The somewhat bleak subject matter…”here’s a few more songs about the end of the world”, she announce at one point…mesh strikingly with her trademark noir-pop…full of rich, guitar twang and plenty of atmosphere.
Not surprisingly, most of the 11-song set drew from the new album, although she did toss in an oldie from 2009’s Lights Out Zoltar! And a stunning, slinky cover of The Sensational Alex Harvey Band’s Swampsnake, which gets my vote for coolest cover of the year, so far.
In addition to Gris-de-Lin, who provided backing vocals and various keyboard-generated sounds, drummer and co-songwriter Andrew Zammit was there to pound out the beat.
Gemma, herself, looked resplendent in her 60-style mini-dress, quasi-beehive hairdo and Ronettes-inspired eyeliner.
The centrepiece of the set was the 8-minute Ifs & Buts, which gave Gemma ample opportunity to show off her guitar skills while singing about, “smoking fags only to watch them smoulder”.
Smoulder, she did, and the small, but enthusiastic crowd we clearly thrilled to have been wise enough to venture out on this Tuesday night to catch this rather special performer.
