Seungcheol
After you climb into Seungcheol’s car after one of your many social events this week, you fail to control your overwhelming emotions.
Seungcheol instantly panics at your sudden crying. It started with quiet sniffles, but now you’re borderline sobbing in your hands.
He wants to pull you into his arms, but it’s not as easy to do so since you’re in his car. Instead, he rubs your thigh with one hand and your back with the other.
“Did something happen tonight?” he asks. There’s a mix of worry and anger laced in his tone. He can’t help but picture someone doing something to upset you.
You shake your head and try to calm your cries.
Truthfully, you’re just overwhelmed with responsibility. You’re exhausted with the need to put on a comradely and upstanding appearance. You’re tired of having the same mindless small talks and being over-aware of your surroundings. You just want to stay at home rather than be in public.
Once Seungcheol knows the reason behind your tears, which he had a feeling about these past few days, he drives you both home. He rubs loving circles on your thigh throughout the trip, sending you words of encouragement every now and then. He doesn’t want to attribute to your overbearing emotions, but he wants you to know he’s here for you.
The night is spent cuddling in bed and eating takeout food. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s exactly what you need. He had offered to give you alone time, but you kept him close. You may not want to be around people, but Seungcheol is an exception. He’s your comfort person, someone you don’t have to put on an appearance for. Someone who understands you and knows how to lift your mood.
When you’re on the brink of sleep, you feel Seungcheol’s lips press against the back of your head. He whispers words of encouragement and tells you he’ll always be here for you. You smile, turn in his arms so you’re facing him, and hold him tightly. He chuckles softly at your reaction and holds you as tightly as you’re holding him.
Jeonghan
Jeonghan claims to want to be an island.
He wants to be a place where people can come and go, leaving their worries behind. Except you ended up shipwrecked on the island and made a home.
Jeonghan leans against the headboard of your shared bed. Your back is pressed against his chest, legs tangled under the covers. You want to spill all your troubles to him, but after constant social interactions, you find it difficult to even express your fatigue. Instead, you both cuddle in silence. Heavy rain falls outside; the pit-pat of the droplets luring you into calmness.
Jeonghan knows something’s wrong, but he’s not quite sure what. He whispers that he’s here for you when you’re ready. You nod, pressing yourself against his warm chest more as you peer at him. He grins and captures your lips in his. The kiss is slow, lazy movements that drag for a little too long, but you don’t care. You feel like life’s been too hectic; you need it all to slow down.
Jeonghan gives your body a gentle squeeze as he pulls away. Your gaze stays on his for a few seconds before you pull him down again.
While you adore Jeonghan’s playful attitude, it’s times like these when you feel extra special. You know he’ll always be there when you need him. Whether you need to rant to him for thirty minutes, cry for fifteen, or simply be near him.
Jeonghan’s your constant.
Joshua
“Babe, are you ready to g—”
Joshua stops mid-sentence upon seeing your dejected form on the couch, shoulders slouched, and a guilty look on your face.
Today was your and Joshua’s two-year anniversary, and he had planned a night out. Normally, you would be over the moon. However, with your constant attendance at social events the past week, you’re dreading going out.
This was meant to be a special night, but you feel like you’ve ruined it. You want to power through, but your body has had enough.
When you finally disclose your troubles with Joshua, he instantly sits next to you and gives you comforting back rubs. He tells you that there’s nothing to feel guilty about. That going out isn’t needed to celebrate your anniversary. He only needs to spend time with you; he doesn’t care the how or where.
So, after a few more reassuring words, you find yourself spending the night indoors with your handsome boyfriend doing mundane activities like cooking and watching shows with little talking. However, you and Joshua are past the awkward silences. You’re able to find comfort in the quietness with him.
And when he gives you random kisses and reassuring smiles throughout the night, you know the night wasn’t ruined by staying in. You just needed him.
Jun
Jun has always been attentive to your needs. After knowing you for years, he can tell when you’re feeling off. You’ve been less talkative, less energetic, and less focused. It’s almost like you’re just a shell of yourself—not really living but just going through the motions.
While you’re away at the nth social gathering, he leaves for the grocery store to gather all the ingredients he needs for your favorite dish. It may not be much, but he just wants you to feel better even if it’s for an hour.
Your routine for coming home nowadays includes taking off your shoes, changing into something more comfortable, and then lying in bed for a few hours until you get up for food.
Jun greets you from the kitchen sweetly and you answer as nicely as you can. It’s nothing against him, but you feel too drained to do or say much. You smell something familiar that makes your stomach rumble. Though before you can question it, Jun gently informs you to get dressed and then come to the dining room.
You mumble an “okay,” then do as you’re told.
Jun’s got the table set and a small, beautiful flower arrangement in the center.
“What’s this?” you wonder.
Jun comes carrying food that makes your mouth water. You recognize it instantly.
“Just thought you deserved a nice meal,” he replies and helps you sit down, placing a kiss on your cheek before he leaves again.
You eye him as he brings in more small dishes. Everything looks incredible, and you can’t wait to indulge in his delicious cooking.
Jun gives you a smile as he sits and nods toward the food, inviting you to go first. The first bite gives you a burst of happiness; there’s something about great food that makes you feel good. Once you get some food in your stomach, Jun begins eating as well.
It’s a nice night after a tiring day. Jun talks a little, but it’s mainly filled with comfortable silence that you welcome. It’s actions like these that make you fall for him more.
Soonyoung
When Soonyoung finds out about your social exhaustion, he fears you won’t want to be around him. Is he making you feel worse? Should he give you some space?
You’re quick to deny his worries. You love his presence, but you warn you may not be as talkative as normal. Soonyoung nods in understanding—tells you he’s perfectly fine with that. He just loves being around you. Sure, he loves your voice too, but he understands needing to recharge after back-to-back social events.
When it’s time for dinner, Soonyoung hesitates to ask if you want to help. He’s not sure if that’s asking for too much, but you smile and follow him to the kitchen.
It’s not unusual to cook dinner together but the time is typically filled with chatting and instructions given by you. This time, it’s Soonyoung leading the dinner preparation. Lately, he’s been more into cooking. Granted, not all his dishes turn out that great, but every chef has to start somewhere. It’s rather nice seeing how excited he gets when executing a dish idea.
You follow his instructions well—chopping this, stirring that. Even though you’re not alone and are on your feet, your mind feels at ease. You don’t have to think about what to say next or how to respond to someone’s actions. You just need to let Soonyoung guide you.
He does so with care. Sometimes he’ll crack a few light jokes just to see the faint smile on your face.
When dinner is done and bellies are full, Soonyoung sends you off to rest while he cleans up. You feel guilty he’s done so much work tonight, but you’re grateful he’s putting in so much effort to make you happy. Next time he’s feeling down like you, you’ll make sure you put in the same effort to see him smile.
Wonwoo
Wonwoo knows the need for alone time. While he doesn’t mind being around his friends for hours, attending social events is a different story. Even if he’s with friends, there are still numerous eyes watching him and other worries he has to consider. It’s draining to constantly uphold an image.
So, when you come home from your final event, he takes no offense when you tell him you want to be alone for a while. Although he’s not sure how long “a while” is, he supports your need to recharge. He tells you that he’s here and to not be afraid to ask for anything as he’ll be there in an instant.
After thanking him and giving him a sweet kiss, you retreat to the bedroom.
Wonwoo sits at his gaming desk in the other room. His headset is on, and his fingers tap rapidly on the keyboard. He’s been playing for a little over an hour when you shuffle inside.
He pauses his game and pushes off his headset.
You’re silent as you push his chair back a bit and settle in his lap.
Wonwoo smiles and helps you get comfortable. You lean against his chest, arms wrapped around his neck tightly with your head nestled in his shoulder.
“You can play,” you mumble.
Wonwoo doesn’t reply verbally. He simply kisses the side of your head before he slips on the headset again and rolls his chair as close as he can get without squishing you.
Your eyes are closed as you lax in his arms. The sound of his keys clacking brings an odd sense of comfort to you. Although you still feel socially drained, you want to be around Wonwoo because if anyone can make you feel better, it’s him. You don’t need his words of encouragement, though you know he’d give them. You just need to know he’s here for you.
And he is.
Always.
Jihoon
There’s something so mesmerizing about the way Jihoon works. His eyebrows are slightly furrowed, indicating how much he’s focusing.
“Whatcha’ looking at, babe?” he chuckles when he catches you staring.
You peer at his eyes and smile, shaking your head. “Nothing. I just like watching you work.”
He hums and sets down his phone that he’s writing lyrics on. He pulls you closer, squeezing you and kissing your forehead.
“You doing okay?” he asks.
It’s been a few days since you confided in him about your social exhaustion. One too many social gatherings have left you with low energy. You haven’t felt like doing much, but Jihoon doesn’t seem to mind. He’s content doing different activities while in the same room.
You shrug in response, and Jihoon gives you a sad yet encouraging smile that tells you to keep going and hang in there. He understands having to do things because you have a responsibility. It’s not always easy, but you have to persevere. And some days it’s easier to; some days it’s not. However, with Jihoon, those easier days happen a lot more often.
You rest your head on Jihoon’s chest while he picks up his phone again. It’s silent except for the sounds of him pressing the keyboard. You wonder what he’s writing about, but Jihoon has never been one to lend you a sneak peek. At least, not while he’s in the process. Maybe he’ll let you review a draft, but that’s the earliest stage you get to see. Regardless, you always end up liking his results.
You don’t realize you’ve fallen asleep until Jihoon gently shakes you. He tells you he needs to use the restroom and that he’ll be right back.
Jihoon holds you closely once he gets back. He whispers a goodnight before falling into slumber as well.
Seokmin
After attending more social gatherings than you can count on your fingers, you’ve become drained. You could go without being around a single human being for a good month.
Except for one.
He lays next to you in bed, eyes darting across your features with worry.
When you ponder what’s wrong, he asks if he’s done something to upset you. You’re confused at first, but then it hits you. You’ve always inquired about his days; however, you’ve been lacking in keeping up to date with his life. You find yourself coming home, then eating and sleeping your day away. Even when you’re up, you’ve stayed to yourself.
You finally tell Seokmin that you’re socially exhausted. Just the mere thought of opening your mouth or being engaged in a conversation has you running for the hills.
Seokmin pushes aside his silent worries and tries not to put anything you’ve said to heart. You’re not upset with him—hell, you’re probably not upset with anyone but just need some quiet time. He’s felt this way before, so he understands you.
Seokmin slides off the bed and leaves the room. You watch in confusion, but he just grins and tells you not to worry.
After fifteen minutes, he comes back and leads you to the living room where he’s set up a mini spa. There’s a bubbling foot bath, a back massage cushion, and calming music playing. You can smell lavender and something else that you’re not sure of, but it makes you feel relaxed.
Seokmin spends hours tending to your body. From foot rubs to forearm massages, he takes care of your body in a way that makes you feel worshipped and loved.
You feel guilty that he’s pampering you so much, but he reassures you multiple times that all you need to do is close your eyes and relax. He has no issue doing this if it means you feel better.
Mingyu
You didn’t mean to snap at Mingyu when he asked if you knew where his wallet was. It was a simple question that had a simple answer. Yet, you replied rudely.
Mingyu had stared at you, not overly offended by your outburst since it was out of character. Rather, he grew concerned. Over the past few days, he’s noticed a decline in your attitude. He could almost see your patience decrease with each passing day. He’s aware of the social events you’ve been going to and figures you’re exhausted from those.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t—” you try to apologize a few minutes later. You’ve calmed down and have reflected on your actions.
“I’m not upset with you, but if it makes you feel better, I accept your apology,” he says and pulls you in for a hug. A hug that engulfs you with comfort from his strong and loving embrace.
You end up telling him how you’re feeling, confirming his suspicion behind your outburst.
He gives your head a gentle kiss. You know he’s not mad at you, but you’re still disappointed with yourself for how you treated him.
When it’s time for bed, Mingyu’s by your side. He offers to wash your face for you so all you have to do is relax. With a nod, he washes his hands, then begins your face routine. Although it’s a thoughtful gesture, he tries to help rinse your face as well. However, it just results in wet floors and laughter. He apologizes but you wave a hand as you smile at him. He gives you a sheepish grin as he pats your face dry.
Perhaps that didn’t go as he planned, but at least you brightened up—even if it were just a few minutes.
Minghao
Minghao sits across from you, an encouraging smile on his lips. You follow suit and copy his sitting position.
He nods once you’ve settled and takes your hands.
“Close your eyes and copy my breathing,” he instructs softly.
Your eyes flutter close, zeroing your focus on the man before you. It’s quiet at first, but then Minghao inhales loud enough for you to hear.
You breathe in.
One.
Two.
Three.
Minghao exhales slowly.
You repeat Minghao’s patterns for an unknown amount of time. You simply let him guide you through whatever meditation practices he often does, which he offered once you told him about your social fatigue.
At first, your mind is still crowded with stress and exhaustion. It’s hard to try to relax when you know you still have more events to come. Though you continue for the sake of pleasing Minghao. You appreciate his time, even if it’s not helping as much.
Minutes pass as you still follow Minghao. Gradually your mind becomes empty—only focusing on the man before you, hands still in his. You don’t even realize how light you feel until Minghao starts pulling away.
Your eyes flutter open and see his gentle smile. You don’t even need to tell him it worked since the look on your face explains it all.
Perhaps you’ll be joining in on his meditation every night from now on.
Seungkwan
Seungkwan’s normally okay with touch. He doesn’t mind the lingering hugs or handholding in public. However, you, on the other hand, have never been as open as him. It’s unusual for you to be openly affectionate. Or at least not for a long time.
Though while visiting a farmers’ market, you cling to him more the entire time. When you encounter another person and have to converse, no matter how short the interaction is, you let Seungkwan do all the talking.
Seungkwan is naturally a talker, so he doesn’t mind taking the lead; however, you don’t even make a peep. Often, you’d at least chime in your two cents, but you don’t do that. No, you stay silent by his side and simply listen.
Seungkwan pulls you aside after a while and asks if you’re okay. When you give him a sad smile and explain you’re just socially exhausted from all your events, he instantly becomes serious. He apologizes for taking you out and not catching on sooner, but you’re not offended at all. You give him a reassuring peck on the cheek and tell him you’re fine, just not up for being around crowds too long.
Seungkwan nods in understanding, then starts leading you back to the parking lot. You tell him you can stay longer, but he refuses. He wants you to be comfortable and happy. He’s seen what he wanted and is perfectly fine heading back.
Halfway home, Seungkwan glances at you in the passenger seat.
“You want some ice cream?”
He smiles knowingly. Ice cream has always been your coping food.
You grin and nod, heart warm at his sweet gesture. Ice cream may be your comfort food, but Seungkwan is your comfort person.
Vernon
Vernon loves to watch movies. So much so that he’s dedicated Friday nights to movie nights. Each night you get to experience a new film with him. Sometimes you both love it, other times you both hate it. And of course, there are times when one loves it more than the other.
After the movies, you end up dissecting it. Some people may find that boring, but you and Vernon share similar hobbies—analyzing movies being one of them.
However, with your frequent social events, you find it difficult to be excited about tonight’s movie.
The movie summary seemed interesting, but your brain feels so drained that you doubt you’ll be paying much attention. Let alone be prepared to engage in a conversation afterward.
When Vernon sits down next to you on the couch, you turn to him reluctantly.
“Do you mind if we rewatch something instead tonight?”
Vernon gives you a confused look. You normally watch new movies, not old ones. When he asks about the reason, you give a summarized answer.
Vernon’s understanding and asks what you’d like to watch. Too fatigued to even think about it, you let him decide. He ends up putting on a movie that you both really enjoyed a few weeks ago. It’s light and easy to follow, yet it had spurred you both to talk about it for hours—somehow getting into a deep conversation.
You snuggle into his side while the opening credits play. He moves one of his arms around your shoulders, rubbing it tenderly. Although it’s not a traditional movie night, you’re glad you still get to participate in it regardless.
Chan
Chan would like to seem more observant than he really is. He would like to say he knew why you were so distant or why you seemed temperamental. However, he can’t. What he does know is that you’re not as bright as you are normally. He knows everyone has their ups and downs, but your down has been occurring long enough to worry him.
He’s standing in line at the grocery store ready to check out when his phone rings. He smiles when he sees your ID; however, your response is not what he expected.
You’re crying.
You’re sniffling and hiccupping so much that it’s hard for Chan to understand what you’re saying. He coos at you, trying to calm you down so he can grasp what’s going on.
After a minute, you’re finally able to tell him you’re overwhelmed coherently. Your social battery has run out of juice and all you want to do is come home.
“I’ll be right there, baby,” he says instantly.
He leaves his cart, apologizing profusely to the worker who eyes him at the act, then beelines it to his car.
It doesn’t matter that he spent an hour picking out food. It doesn’t matter that he was waiting in line for fifteen minutes. He just needs to be there for you.
Chan stays on the line throughout the drive. He keeps you up to date on how far he is and continues to reassure you that it’ll be okay.
He meets you outside the building and engulfs you in the most secure and loving hug. He holds you against his chest, letting you wet his shirt with your tears while he rubs your back soothingly.
“How does leaving a little early sound?” he suggests.
Normally, you try to stick it out. You have a responsibility and want to fulfill your duty. However, all these non-stop events have drained you beyond recognition.
You nod and quickly text a friend at the event that you’ve started to feel sick and need to leave.
You let Chan take care of you the rest of the day. He brings you food in bed, takes care of some house chores that you planned to do, and gives you plenty of cuddles and kisses.

Seokmin is at the stove with a wooden spatula in hand when he feels your arms slither around his waist. The warmth of your cheek presses into the space between his shoulder blades, just like the tiny, contented sigh you breathe out. Without the sizzling pan in front of him, he might’ve given into the urge to go boneless; to melt into your hold, like marshmallow over a campfire.
Gooey may not be glamorous, but it’s the best way to describe how he feels around you.
“What are you making?” You mumble from behind him, curiosity evident despite how muffled your words are
He bites his lips to keep from grinning. Really, he doesn’t want to make it a big deal, but it is. This might be the first time you’ve ever asked him that question with interest, rather than carefully-cloaked dread. The first time you sound genuinely eager.
If his heart gets any warmer, it’ll burn his —
“Dakgalbi!” And even though you can’t see him do it, Seokmin wiggles his eyebrows for emphasis as he lilts, “With a special ingredient.”
You pull your cheek from its resting place, thankfully without removing your arms. He cranes his neck to meet your eyes over his shoulder just in time for you to snort, “Love?”
Well…
Honestly, it’s no surprise that you catch his cheesy joke before he can properly drop it. He’s cast this line at you a million times before — and that’s a conservative estimate.
Seokmin paints on an exaggerated frown, blinking his wide fake-offended eyes back at you. “My halmoni’s kimchi,” he says through a pout.
You nod appreciatively, then you kiss the pout right off his face, leaving Seokmin to wonder if you’re really talking about fermented cabbage when you sigh, “The best there is.”
The distraction you create is more than welcome, but the dish he’s neglecting starts sputtering in an ominous way that demands immediate attention. Reluctantly, he turns back around to stir. Even more reluctantly, you withdraw your arms from him; your soft footsteps pad off somewhere he can’t see.
Then, he hears a cabinet open.
Then, the distinct clink of two bowls being lifted from the shelf.
Two bowls, Seokmin notes, and he’s unable to fight off a grin this time.
Once the chicken and sweet potatoes are thoroughly cooked, you reappear at his side with two bowls at the ready. Two portions are doled out carefully to avoid spilling any sauce on the counter, then two pairs of chopsticks replace the wooden spatula in his hand.
You sit together at your small kitchen table, and it feels natural now, like this is something you’ve always done. It’s not; it’s a recent development, but there’s an ease to it all now that wasn’t there before.
Seokmin’s instincts tell him to be cool about it. To not stare lovingly at you, as much as he may want to, because that spot-lighted attention would freak him out, too. But even without watching outright, he notices the thousand little hard-fought changes.
When you pick up a large bite of chicken between your chopsticks, you don’t distract with a question or joke just to set the bite back down, undetected. You chew that bite, making some thoroughly delighted sound, and then you take another one.
You don’t push the food around in your bowl, either, but eat your fill from it. Once you do, you don’t disappear. Instead, you stay put, laughing through the rest of the hour while Seokmin eats his first and second servings. You’re present, accounted for, and best of all, happy to be here.
This isn’t the first meal you’ve spent like this — Seokmin trusts implicitly that it won’t be the last — and yet he still feels pride bubble up in his chest in a way that makes his tear ducts tingle. Again, he reminds himself to be cool about it. He clears his throat, as if it’s the gochugaru affecting him and not his admiration for you, and he takes a sip of the beer you decided pairs best with the stir-fry.
Licking the excess foam from his lips, Seokmin sets his glass down and looks up at you. The echoing sip you take is earnest, rather than performative, and it’s followed by a sigh that sounds relieved.
“I love you, you know,” he states plainly.
I’m so fucking proud of you, he implies.
“I know.” You shrug, then the nonchalance gives way to a giggle. Your shoulder knocks gently into his before you lean closer and rest your head there. “Ditto.”
Seokmin rests his cheek against the top of your head. His eyes flutter shut in the comfortable silence that follows, too full and content to even think of doing dishes.
After spending a few minutes that way, you speak again — softly, because you know he startles easily: “It’s supposed to rain tomorrow.”
“Oh?” He asks without a clue where this train of thought is heading.
“Perfect pajeon weather. We should make some, don’t you think?”
What Seokmin thinks is that recovery looks beautiful on you.
Nodding minimally to avoid shaking your head along with his, he agrees, beaming all the while. “Perfect indeed.”

I’ll Protect You
summary: stress induced nightmares keep you from wanting to go back to sleep. Luckily your boyfriend is there to keep you company
You weren’t positive what you did in order for you to have a nightmare within a nightmare on this particular night, but the way your heart was beating out of your chest, beads of sweat coating your forehead and ragged breathing was the universe’s way of saying, “you’re not going back to bed”. You sat up and rubbed your head that was now pulsating, scared to even close you eyes in the upright position because you were so exhausted to the point you could fall asleep standing up. You barely registered a quiet “y/n?” Filling the room. You look over and see your boyfriend squinting at you, trying to find your face in the dark.
“What’s wrong?” He asks when there’s a lack of response. You realized you couldn’t talk. More of you were speaking but he couldn’t hear you. You reached out to him and your hand fell through him, as if he were a figment of your imagination. Your eyes bulged as you tried to grab his shirt but you couldn’t. He wasn’t there, but you could see him. You panicked, not being able to get the words out as he yelled asking what was wrong. Seconds later he disappeared. Gone in thin air. But you heard his voice. It got louder actually until…
Your eyes shot open. You could truly feel hands around your wrists. Your hands were in the same position you were just seconds ago in your nightmare, gripping his shirt and screaming his name. He was so calm though, even after just watching you go through what seemed like a night terror.
“You with me sweetheart?” He asked rubbing your wrist with his thumb. You nodded hesitantly, slowly letting go of his shirt, slightly embarrassed at the fact he most likely woke up to you screaming and grabbing him.
“I had a nightmare, and I thought I woke up from it, but I was still in it…” you mumble into your hands. He sits up and starts rubbing your back.
“I’m sorry honey,” he whispers, alternating between rubbing your shoulders and scratching your back. You were both sure this was stress related.
“It is what it is, I’m sorry if I woke up you,” you whisper leaning your head on one hand. He shook his head.
“You don’t need to apologize love, I want to help in any way I can,” he reassures you before kissing your shoulder and pulling you into the side of him.
“I don’t want to go to sleep, I’m scared I’ll relive it again,” you say mildly shaky. You’ve never gone through multiple nightmares before. Wonwoo hummed.
“Want to watch something? We could cuddle and eat snacks if you’d like?” He suggests while rubbing a hand up and down your arm. You let out a sigh because that sounded absolutely amazing. Within minutes, Wonwoo was back in the room with your favorite snacks, and scrolling through Netflix looking for a happy show for you two to watch. You rested your head against his shoulder while he laid his head on top of yours.
“Hey,” he said gently lifting your chin to look at him. He smiled with adoration and kissed your forehead. “I love you,” he says sweetly. You smiled for the first time that night and kissed him back.
“I love you too,” you say while trying to stifle a yawn. Wonwoo giggled at that and pulled you fully into his lap, his arms wrapped around your midsection while he rested his chin on your head. You knew you’d probably be more than tired once the sun rose, but let’s just say your midday nap would be free of nightmares and full of warmth in your boyfriend’s hold.

how they take care of you — seventeen | 2,531 words | hurt/comfort, fluff
i didn't know i liked writing ot13 this much!
gender neutral reader. warnings: reader is stressed out/tired/scared/ill/sad? y'know, the usual spectrum of negative human emotions?
seungcheol
gets so concerned when he hears a hitch in your voice when you greet him that he drops whatever he’s doing and rushes to you. doesn’t matter if he’s on a call or if he’s doing some important paperwork, he’s all yours now.
gives you a big, comforting hug that tries to shield you from everything but him. kisses your head to try and ground you.
doesn’t make you talk if you don’t want to, but he insists that you don’t keep it in for too long because it’s only going to hurt you in the end. lasts only for a while before asking if there's someone that needs some talking to for making you feel this sad.
tries to do anything in his power to see you smile, even if it's momentary. shows you a funny picture of his favourite child (mingyu) to cheer you up. asks if you feel okay enough to walk kkuma with him, because she needs some time with her other favourite person (you).
“you know i love you, right? that's never changing.”
jeonghan
is proud to be the person that becomes your comfort when something doesn’t go right, or when you’ve had a bad day.
immediately bottles up any jokes he’s about to make and wipes away your tears, stops only when you bat his hands away. even if he doesn’t want to let go of you, he respects your boundaries.
when you're feeling a bit better, he pulls you down into the sofa and cuddles with you, and is content whether you choose to tell him what’s on your mind, or if you want to be silent and fiddle with his shirt instead.
kisses your forehead and looks into your eyes when he promises you that it’s just one bad day, and that he’s always here for all the others. links pinkies with you because he knows how much it means to you, even if it may seem childish.
will resort to tickling you to make the last traces of your sadness vanish, and asks if there’s anything else he can do to make you smile.
joshua
comes to pick you up from work because he has a free day, and realizes something’s wrong the moment you greet him hello without even looking at his face for more than two seconds.
doesn’t make a big deal out of it, though. takes your stuff from you and greets you softly. opens the door for you and buckles your seat belt. asks you if it’s okay that he’s not taking you home first, because there’s some place else he wants to take you.
dismisses any concerns you have about not looking “good enough” to go out, because you look absolutely gorgeous at any time of the day, and he’d never lie about something like this to you. lets you choose whatever music you want as he weaves through the traffic on the streets, telling you about his day.
parks the car and gets out to hold your hand in his as he guides you over to the many stalls, asking you to pick whatever you want to eat. sits next to you on one of the benches overlooking the river, your legs swinging as you lean into his side and enjoy your meal. is glad he could take care of you like this because you needed it.
“trust me when i say whatever happened is not your fault, okay, sweetheart?”
junhui
is more confident in his actions than his words, because he can immediately notice the little changes in your behaviour: your tired smile, and the way you’re kind of curled in on yourself, as if trying to take up less space.
gives you a long hug with lots of cheek kisses and pulls you into the kitchen to show you what he’s working on: a dish that coincidentally happens to be your comfort food. it’s your favourite, especially when jun makes it in his own style.
this six foot man becomes small as he tries to do anything to make you smile. hates that you’re even feeling this way. throws random pickup lines at you to see which one gets you to crack and slap his arm and tell him to stop (he won’t, because he loves you too much).
offers to feed you dinner once it’s ready and makes random airplane noises that bring out a giggle from you. watches as you eat slowly and is glad when he sees your bowl is empty. doesn’t resist your offer of feeding him dinner once you’re done.
hides under the blankets with you and watches cat videos till your eyes shut from exhaustion and his arm hurts from holding up the phone from so long. cuddles with you and doesn’t let go even when you halfheartedly complain about how warm it is.
soonyoung
becomes so gentle that it pulls you out of your dullness a bit, makes you wonder where your usually hyperactive boyfriend is.
doesn’t baby you because he knows you don’t like it, but he makes sure you get everything you need. calls his mother to ask her the exact recipe for this soup she used to feed him when he used to get ill. stays by your side even when you have a raging fever and you’re worried he’s going to catch it if he kisses your cheek one more time.
doesn’t complain even once when you wake him up because of how uncomfortable you’re feeling. what else is he there for, if he can’t take care of the person he loves the most? wraps himself along with you in your blanket even if it’s hot enough that he can just melt.
is your hype man when you finally get better enough to start moving around the house by yourself. watches you with the biggest smile on his face that he will not tamp down when he sees you eating the soup he made, and almost cries with joy when you ask him for a second serving.
doesn’t blame you one bit when he catches the same bug a week later, because you’re there to take care of him through it, and because he loves you too much for it to be an issue.
wonwoo
gently pulls you into his chest the moment he sees your tear-streaked cheeks, and rests his head on yours. doesn’t ask you what’s wrong because he feels it’s more important to make you feel better.
doesn’t care that your tears are leaving behind a spot on his shirt, and shushes you for even pointing it out. in fact he wants you to do that so that you can run out of tears and he can take care of you properly.
gives you his hoodie to wear because it’s oversized on you, and he loves seeing you in it just as much as you love wearing it.
makes you wrap your arms around his waist from behind and cling onto him while he goes about the house finishing his share of chores. does yours without asking if he senses you’re too drained out to do them.
absolutely needs you by his side regardless of what he’s doing, whether it’s playing a game or brushing his teeth. offers to read you a book if you’re having trouble falling asleep. tells you he loves you in the lowest voice possible when he sees you finally asleep against his chest, breathing evened out.
jihoon
might not very verbal, but when it comes to you, he knows exactly what to do to make things better.
knows you’re in his studio when the door shuts, but you don’t greet him. decides to finish some edits on the song he’s working on before he turns to you, only to find you lying on the sofa facing away from him.
genuinely sad to hear you had a bad day. he got through today only because of all the encouraging texts you sent him. decides the least he can do is return the favour.
wraps you in your favourite blanket that he always keeps at the studio for when you visit. holds your hand regardless of whether you want to talk or not. offers to order food to the studio so that he can make sure you’re not hungry.
very thankful that you came to him because you were feeling down, and he very much wants to call it a day and take you home so that he can cuddle with you and make your day just a bit better.
seokmin
his mood almost always mirrors yours, so when he sees you so exhausted and down, his heart genuinely hurts.
not a confrontational person, but he’s willing to fight whatever made you sad, even if it was a table you stubbed your toe on. happy that it brings a smile to your face even if he didn’t actually fight anything.
have you seen his arms? wraps them around you till you push him off with a bit of a smile on your face. he then decides he wants to use them to bake something for you. you’re the better baker between the two of you and since he’s got loads of time today, he decides he wants to learn something that he can make the next time you’re away and he doesn’t have to feel that lonely.
is your own personal jukebox. belts out whatever song you want, and does a mini infinite aju nice in the comfort of your kitchen, making you jump while the oven works, till you’re tired and actually smiling.
“it’ll be okay, i promise. i love you.”
mingyu
hates that you had a nightmare but is thankful that he was sleeping right next to you when it happened.
the biggest cuddle bug you’ll ever see you in your life. when you wake him up with a shaky voice, he immediately blinks out of his sleep and holds you in his arms. he’ll hug you and keep hugging you till he can drain your sadness even just a little.
doesn’t matter how late it is; if you can’t go back to sleep, he’ll pull you to the kitchen and make his ramen just for you. makes you help him chop some ingredients and stir the broth so that you feel involved. keeps purposely bumping into you every time you cross paths and takes a kiss as payment.
finds some cheesy, slow music to dance to and gently pulls you all over the kitchen, twirling you and even bending you as the song ends. loves hearing your laugh when he pulls you back up.
“i hope you dream of me when you sleep again. i love you.”
minghao
words aren’t necessary when he can just take care of you the way you always deserve to be taken care of.
actually gets upset (a little) when you apologize for crying in front of him. who else will make you feel better when you’re down if not for him? makes you promise never to feel nervous to be emotional around him.
runs a bath for you and makes your favourite food. when you’re done with dinner and feeling a bit better, he takes you to bed and cuddles with you, wanting you to focus on his breathing so you can calm yourself. he whispers endearments into your ear. also makes sure you know how proud he is of you for getting through today.
would give you the entire world if he could, but when you tell him the only thing you want is him, he promises you he’s never going anywhere, no matter what happens.
“i’m so lucky to call myself yours, my love. always.”
seungkwan
he can never stand seeing his loved ones sad, so when he sees you, he needs to find a way to make your smile get back to your face.
sees your lips wobble when you say hello to him, and he eventually coaxes the issue out of you: your friends had ditched a get-together you’d been planning at the last minute, and they didn’t even have the decency to apologize for it. he feels extremely angry on your behalf and is ready to curse. doesn’t do it only because it won’t help you.
thinks about what he can do to make you happy. asks if he can take you out on a drive tonight so you can watch the stars with him. when you regretfully decline the offer, he asks if you want to create a blanket fort and watch movies or go to sleep.
it’s not long before he’s constructing a blanket fort for the first time in his life thanks to some youtube tutorials. he’s upset when it collapses right in the middle of constructing it, but he realizes he’d build it a hundred times more if it meant you’d laugh the way you just did.
sets up snacks and your favourite drinks after a while. keeps apologizing to you on behalf of your so-called friends till you tell him to stop. promises that he’s always going to be with you, and that you don’t have to be sad when you’re with him. falls asleep with you in his arms, and a smile on your face, snacks and movies forgotten.
hansol
feels bad the moment he sees you try to mask the sadness on your face with a smile.
better with actions than words, so he kisses your forehead and trails you around the house while you try to relax from the day you had. if you’re really sad, he lets you just rest your head against his collarbone and breathe till you feel better.
“you’ve got this, and you’ve got me, okay? i’m right here.”
has a bunch of handmade coupons for whenever you feel sad. each coupon has the same four options: eat, talk, watch a movie, sleep. does whatever you choose, whether it’s only one or all four.
another one who has no problem with prolonged eye contact. he looks at you till you understand that he loves you more than he can say and that he’s always there for you when you feel like this.
chan
always used to being babied by his older brothers, so he feels happy to get a chance to take care of you. just doesn’t like the fact that you’re sad, because you deserve to be anything but.
very transparent with his affection for you. he whispers “i love you” into your hair when you ask him for a hug, shouts it across the living room when you come out to get some water, and holds your hand under the table during dinner even if it’s inconvenient.
if you’re really down, and don’t feel like talking, he bundles you into a blanket and puts you on the sofa and sits close to you, so that you have your space but he’s close enough if you need him.
sits with you while you work and watches intently even if he doesn’t understand much of what you’re doing. ready to go to the store and get you anything you’re craving, regardless of how late it is.
“i love looking after you, okay? don’t ever feel bad about telling me what’s troubling you.”

Damn it!
Pairing: Seungcheol x gn!reader
Genre: fluff, hurt/comfort, a little angsty
Synopsis: In which he cried in front of you for the first time.
"Cheol?"
Your boyfriend always yelled out "I'm home!" Whenever he was back from work, but today you just heard the sound of the door being slammed shut.
You go outside of your shared bedroom to check on him, only to find him sitting alone in the corner of the living room, crouched down and knees to his chest. His head rested on both of his knees and he didn't make a single sound which automatically sent a signal to your brain. Something is wrong.
"Cheol? Why are you there love?" He raised his head at the sound of your voice. You rushed to him and crouched down to meet his eye level.
He shook his head and exhaled sharply "jus' feeling under the weather." he murmured.
Now this was strange, no matter how upset he was he always came to you for cuddles and kisses to sooth his worries, but now he was all alone in a corner.
"What happened baby?" You carress his hair gently waiting for an answer.
"I had an argument with the members and I..." He sighed "Things got too heated and I said things I didn't mean." You could see the pain all over his face. His eyebrows were furrowed and his lips were poutier and strangely enough, his eyes were glossy.
"I screwed up and I-"
"I won't allow you to finish that sentence. Yes, you may have made a mistake, everyone makes them," you grabbed his face with both of your hands, forcing him to look you in the eyes "But even if you've made a thousand, I'm sure they'd know you didn't mean it, okay?"
His eyes kept getting glossier and his vision was becoming more unclear. "You're not only a great leader Cheollie, you're a great friend and I'm sure they know that and— I know you're stressed and everything is too much at the moment but I'm here for you. Always."
You wrapped your arms around his shoulders, bringing him closer to your chest. It was hard, really hard to try to hold it in especially when you warmly embraced him at a time he thought he was all alone.
"Don't you ever think of carrying your burdens alone again, hm?" Your eyes widenened as you felt hot tears staining your shirt.
It was the first time he has ever cried in front of you. Silence engulfed the room as you patted his back.
"Damn it!"
Hm? You didn't know why he was suddenly frustrated but all you wanted was to provide him the comfort you felt when you were with him every single moment.
"God this is so embarrassing." He sniffled "I didn't want to cry, especially in front of you."
"Let it all out love, it's never embarrassing to cry, hm?"
"God I love you too damn much." He hugged you even tighter, burying his head into the crook of your neck.

Aa you asked me to say it here, can you make a “husband svt reactions to their wives fighting with them” pls☺️☺️ tysm
hii! sure i can, sorry i made you wait for so long, it's been a few hectic days :((
Seventeen And How They Would React To You Two Fighting
scoups: he will try his best to remain calm and collected, but sometimes even he loses his self control and ends up yelling back at you, which results in a screaming match between you two. he isn’t yelling so much because he’s mad, but rather because he feels like you aren’t hearing him out and because he feels like the fight isn’t going anywhere. in the heat of the moment he might unintentionally say something very hurtful to you. but the moment he sees tears falling down your cheeks, he’s hugging you closely to his chest, so tight that you can only breathe in his smell. will probably tear up himself, all while apologising to you. in his deep voice you will hear him say in your ear “i’m so sorry baby, i didn’t mean it, i’m an idiot, don’t cry because of me, i’m not worth your tears, sweetheart”
jeonghan: i can see him either trying to calmly talk it out or getting so defensive that he becomes emotionally unavailable for that moment, scoffing and rolling his eyes at almost anything you say to him. it’s just frustrating how you both can see what he means and how you aren’t to just let it go, even after he went in detail explaining how he was right and you were wrong. will probably respond only with sarcasm, scoffing he will say “yeah you would know a thing or two about that wouldn’t you”. he doesn’t mean to turn that cruel, but the whole situation is just so frustrating to him that he doesn’t know what to do anymore, plus you putting the blame on him makes him become so defensive that naturally he starts responding with cruel and mean words. but the moment he sees your shoulders shaking, he’s abandoning both his pride and anger, and is instead running to you, your face immediately being developed in his big and warm hands. will mumble something like “didn’t mean to make you cry pretty girl, i’m sorry, i don’t even know what the fight is about anymore. forgive me?”
joshua: i honest to god can’t see this man getting so angry at you to the point that it would make you cry, he’s always so gentle with you and your heart i just can’t realistically see it happening. he would try to make his point come across, if a bit forcefully but it wouldn’t escalate (at least not from his side) beyond that. if he sees that the fight is leading nowhere, he would suggest taking a few minutes for yourselves, before making you both sit down on a couch and talking it out, speaking in turns. you would still end up crying but not because of him yelling at you, but because at some point his own eyes would well up with tears, making you realise just how stupid both of you are. the moment he sees you crying, he’s pulling you onto his lap, hugging you so tightly to his chest, his own tears hitting the skin of your neck where he’s hiding his face. eventually, you two would end up falling asleep like that, the fight forgiven and forgotten from both sides
jun: oh this sweet baby would actually be the one to end up crying please never raise your voice at him. the fight would start as normal as fights can be, but the moment he sees you losing it and you raising your voice at him, it’s done. he will try to respond in a trembling voice, his hands shaking next to his body out of fear. the fear wouldn’t be because he’s afraid of you, like that you would do something to him, because he knows you would never. no, his voice would shake out of fear that this is it for the two of you, that he has officially fucked it all up and that you will break up with him. he would stress himself out so much he will eventually just break down, soft cries escaping his plush lips. the moment you see it, you’re running to him, hugging him close to you and repeating your apology like a mantra. the most heartbreaking thing, the thing that will make you cry too, will be hearing his broken voice whisper “please don’t leave me” in your ear🥺 protect jun at all costs my baby i miss him sm
hoshi: oh fighting with this man would give me a headache, genuinely, i would just leave and/or apologise just to end it lmao. not only would he respond kind of rudely, scoffing at every remark he doesn’t agree with, he would also yell over you, trying to make his reasons be heard loud and clear. what he doesn’t realise is just how much this hurts you, how unheard and silenced you feel, with him just yelling and yelling. his words wouldn’t be necessarily cruel, but he might slip in some truth that cut deeper than he thinks it would. the moment that he sees you running to the bathroom, tears staining your cheeks, he would feel his mouth dry up. after giving you a few minutes, he would just sit in front of the bathroom door, softly apologising and asking if he can give you a hug. just hearing your soft cries echo off the tiled walls of the bathroom would break his heart so much, he himself would let a few tears slip out.
wonwoo: i genuinely can’t really tell how he would react in a fight with his significant other. he definitely doesn’t seem like the type to yell at you, not would he be a wild one like hoshi is. i think the most realistic scenario is him just repeating his point over and over again, slowly getting more and more frustrated, sighing and massaging his temples in an effort not to lose it. at one point he would be so fed up with it, he would either say “im not talking to you anymore”, ignoring everything you say after that and also you in general, just sitting down and either staring at something or being on his phone, or he would just get his keys and walk out while saying “i can’t do this anymore now, im going for a walk, we will talk more later”. the walk would give him the space to think about your fight again with a calm mind, he would end up understanding your points and what your thought process is. this would help him out so when he gets back, he would talk it out gently with you, holding your hands on his lap, softly brushing his thumbs against the back of your hand. after coming to a mutual agreement, he would hug you close to him, kissing your forehead softly as an apology
woozi: i think it would take jihoon genuinely a lot to get him truly pissed off, and if it gets to that point, expect his words to cut so deep, you two might never come back to the point you once were. he would try to be reasonable in the beginning, talking as calmly as he possibly can, trying really hard to make you see his point of you. but eventually, as you start losing it, so will he. he won’t ever raise his voice at you, there’s no need for something like that- especially because his words will be venomous enough that it will hurt much more than him raising his voice at you ever would. he would say such horrible things because it’s his defensive mechanism, he wouldn’t realise just how hurtful they truly are until he sees you running out of the house, crying so much, you don’t even think about taking your coat. he will stay behind for a minute, thinking about what he said before he’s running after you too. after the most stressful 20 minutes, when he finds you on a bench in a park, he will be getting on his knees to beg for your forgiveness, the rarity that are his tears would make their appearance. his voice would tremble while saying “you have no reason to but please forgive me. i can’t live without you, you are everything i have ever dreamed of and im taking it for granted. please forgive me so i can make up to you and treat you like you should be treated”
minghao: the most rational one out of all of them, so soft spoken and kind to you even during a stressful situation like a fight. he wouldn’t even get it to the point where you might completely lose it, the moment he sees that your anger is about to boil over, he takes your hands in his and puts one of your hands on his chest, where his heart is. while gently holding the eye contact, he would say “my love. i understand where you’re coming from, and although i don’t really agree with what you are saying, i understand where you are coming from. but i feel like this fight isn’t going anywhere. can we sit down and talk it out? find a middle ground that both of us can stand on? i just think otherwise we won’t stop fighting for a while-we need to agree on this one way or another.” 30 minutes later, the fight is over, the middle ground has been found, the tea has been brewed, and cuddles have been shared. i just can’t imagine him reacting any differently in this type of situation- the most extreme scenario would be him going to a room alone to calm down for a few minutes before coming back to you to make up.
mingyu: i feel like this one would try to play victim big time every time and it would personally piss me off lmao. he genuinely doesn’t understand how you think that this is his fault and why you’re still fighting him. like it genuinely baffles him that you aren’t seeing your own faults in this situation. would definitely scoff at every other sentence that lives your mouth, saying things like “oh so this is my fault too? so it’s everything that isn’t according to your standards my fault now? if im so bad, why are you even with me?” at some point you will start crying out of frustration for being with such a dumbass lmao. the moment he sees your tears however, every word dies before it gets the chance to leave his mouth. when you turn away from him, he will gently tug on the hem of your shirt before mumbling “im sorry. i wasn’t thinking clearly and was very rude to you by not responding to you properly.” after a few seconds he will shyly ask “can i hug you? please? im so exhausted because of this fight and… i miss you”. after a few millions of kisses all is well
dk: oh this baby, he would NEVER let the fight get so far as for you to end up crying because of him. you two will go back and forth for a while, but the moment he sees you getting annoyed, he’s rushing to you, your hands teleporting themselves into his, his gentle eyes looking at you while saying “my love please don’t get mad. im sorry, i didn’t mean to push you this far, please forgive me.” and just like that it would be over. this is of course in case that you two just misunderstood each other. if you did something very hurtful to him however, expect him to yell at you in the heat of a moment, before ignoring you for the next two to three days. he would avoid you at all cost, although you will still find your morning coffee ready for you and the dinner heated up for you, but he won’t talk to you, still mad at you for what you did. that is, until one night you corner him in the kitchen and hug him from behind, your soft voice breaking as you utter the words “im sorry”. the feeling of longing and hurt and anger will finally subdue enough for him to return your hug, saying “ im sorry too.” after a few second he would add “im still mad though. i want cuddles and kisses tomorrow, all day, the whole day, as an apology” because he wouldn’t be our seokminnie if he didn’t add something like that.
seungkwan: oh god may god help you if your fight with seungkwan ever turns very serious, it will be so loud and painful and illogical it will drive you mad. we all know that our diva is a bit sassy, but once the sassiness turns to annoyance and anger oh you will get it in the neck. at some point the initial cause for the fight would be forgotten by both of you, just throwing insults at each other, trying to hurt the other more than it hurts you. the fight would get so messy you would just walk out, slamming the door behind you. after an hour or two, you will be welcomed with seungkwan jumping off the couch, his eyes bloodshot, yet again yelling at you “where the hell have you been?!” before speed walking to you. the moment he’s within the arms reach, he’s pulling you to his chest, so tightly it feels like he’s tying you to himself. in a most broken whisper, he will shakily exhale “i was so worried about you, don’t ever do that again…please…i thought- i-i thought that you left me…” cue more tears from the both of you
vernon: i know that a lot of people deem vernon to be clueless and stoic and somewhat emotionless, but i really don’t think that’s the case. vernon is one of the most mature ones out of all the other boys, he’s so emotionally intelligent and careful with his words. and he can definitely get angry if something rubs him the wrong way. although he wouldn’t yell at you, his frustration would be very visible due to the frown caressing his face and also with how animatedly he’s moving his hands. and because he’s a bit thick headed, i feel like he would repeat his points over and over again in an effort to make you understand what he means, even when they aren’t making any sense or aren’t really that relevant to the argument. eventually he will just walk into the other room to calm down, saying “i can’t do this anymore right now, we will talk later”. once he’s calmed down, he will go over both your pointe, finally hearing you out, but also making you understand what he meant more clearly. over all, arguments with vernon would never last that long because he wouldn’t let them last that long. once the movie is turned on and you are all cuddled up into his side, all so forgiven and forgotten
dino: see, dino is one of the only ones who i can’t really tell how he would act during an argument. while generally more on the quieter side, i can see him lashing out a bit once he has reached his limit, but i feel like he would immediately feel guilty about it and would apologise to you for saying it that way. he would probably feel a bit repressed, thinking you don’t care about what he thinks, which would make him yell out “you never hear out what i have to say! is that hard for you to just listen to what i say?” the further it escalates, the worse he’s going to feel, until eventually he inevitably starts crying. feeling a bit embarrassed, he will just walk out and lock himself in the bathroom for the next few hours. channie is so sensitive, that your words always get to him, making him overthink about everything-is he a bad boyfriend? does he even deserve to be with someone as amazing as you? were you maybe right, was he in the wrong after all? he would spiral so much that you will have to talk him into joining you outside to talk about the fight and to make up. cue more tears from him, he would feel so ashamed and embarrassed, he would be looking down at his lap the entire time until you put a finger under his chin and raise his face so you can kiss his cheek as an apology. after the apologies are said, he will need you to hug him for the next several hours, just holding him like a little child until he feels better about both the situation and himself.

Here Now - Joshua Hong
WC: 1k || Genre: Fluff, Hurt/Comfort, Angst (?) || Lover boy Joshua Hong is in the house!!
A/N: I'm not gonna tell y'all what to do but...you maybe totally should envision this to "Lean On Me" (aka my favoritest SVT song ever)
It's been days since you've gotten up from the comfy nest you created for yourself on your bed. Wrapped up in blankets and snuggling pillows like a newborn monkey.
You hadn't gotten sick like this in forever, it's very possible that you haven't been this sick in your entire life actually. You've been calling out of work for days and any movements made past the kitchen or the bathroom were futile attempts that would leave you hurling.
So all in all, you're extremely lucky to have Joshua by your side. Bringing you meals, making you meals, making sure you're taking medicine, he even took a few days off to make sure that if you needed him he was there.
Which, if you were being honest, made you feel even more sick.
It's not like the attention wasn't appreciated...no! You loved the way that Shua loved. You really truly did! It's rare that fights ever caused wedges between you because he was always so good with communication. He was always keen on making sure that you knew that he was yours and only yours, calling every single night on tour and planning dates like it was his job. Shua was - just as he's boasted about all these years - a gentleman.
But you'd be lying if you didn't acknowledge that this didn't feel right, that him taking care of you felt comfortable. It was anything but.
You can take care of yourself and you have for many many years. So when Shua started to bring over food, made sure to set alarms to remind you to take medicine, and spend nights at your place - it's fair to say that you felt suffocated? Or it's more like you didn't want to take up his time.
Joshua is busy. You've always known him to be extremely hard-working, not only in your relationship but also in his professional life. And it's not like you ever minded, in fact, you enjoy being alone. It's just how life has turned out for you thus far, in ways, being alone is much more comfortable than being surrounded by others constantly.
When you'd gotten together it was pretty out of the ordinary. It's not like you're polar opposites but Shua is so outgoing, friendly, and sociable - it astonished you how kind he was to everyone. To be able to call him your boyfriend seems a bit like a privilege. And it only made it that much harder to accept this kind of care.
"You don't have to do all this Shua."
"Hmm? What do you mean?" He stares at you from the edge of the best where he's sitting, the thermometer still in his hand as he had just checked your temperature.
"I mean take time off and stuff. You don't have to do this for me."
Utterly confused he keeps quiet, placing the thermometer on the nightstand. He's always been good about letting other people have the space to speak.
"I know you're trying to be nice...but I can do stuff myself. You don't have to dote on me." He's letting you finish your speech but as you look into his eyes you can see he's readying himself to refute. "I know you're busy-"
"No." His tone is so stern that it scares you.
"Josh-" You nervously rub your hands together but Shua is quick to hold your palms in his.
"I'm not busy, y/n. I'm not busy when it comes to you."
"That's the thing Shua! You really shouldn't feel like you need to do any of this just because I'm your partner or out of any obligations...." He sees the guilty look on your face as you stare down at your intertwined fingers.
He scoffs, "Yeah and you shouldn't feel like you're a burden to me because I'm your partner." He rolls his eyes with a smile but you're completely blown away by the statement. "Seriously...you act like we're not gonna recite the words "through sickness and health" one day."
"Yeah but you have so much going on- I've taken care of myself for forever so it's really okay for me to continue to do so. I haven't had the kind of support you do, y'know? I've grown accustomed to being alone and doing things alone..." You take a big breath and let it out, letting the weight glide off your shoulders. "I just don't want to be another thing you think you have to worry about."
He's looking at you with the biggest stupidest doe eyes, taking in every single word you say. It only makes your heart pound more and not in any sort of lovesick manner, but in embarrassment of the situation.
"You're so...frustrating sometimes y/n."
Dumbfounded at the jab your face screws up in disbelief of his words...it feels like your world could come crashing down right now. Maybe you just shouldn't have said anything-
"I know you've done things all on your own. You're literally one of the strongest people I know. It's one of my favorite qualities about you. You're independent, reliable, and so- Just- Ugh!" He facepalms. "I know all of this about you - you're so perfect and it breaks my heart that you would ever think you could be any sort of problem for me. I'm here for you. Yes, you've learned to go through it all alone and take care of yourself. But that doesn't mean that you have to do that...especially not anymore."
You don't know if it would be more appropriate to cry or smile in this situation so you resolve to just holding him as close as you can. You can feel as tears begin to gather but you hold yourself together -although, now you know that he wouldn't mind if you let it all go.
"It worries me so much that you feel like you can't lean on me." He rests in the crook of your neck and speaks against your skin.
"Just rest now, babe. Look your temp is already a lot better than yesterday." He separates from you and holds the thermometer up as proof, "Rest. I'm here now and I refuse to let you go through life alone!" That goofy smile that had you fallen head over heels for adorns his face.
*RING RING RING* "Medicine alarm..." He presses a kiss to your cheek. Yeah, you're really lucky to have Joshua.
A/N: Crying, I love him, Mom!! Also, I'm so sorry this took so much longer to write than I expected. I was out of ideasssss and dialogue was so rough to come up with for this one. MAD
Mad Genre: hurt/comfort Pairing: Wonwoo X Reader “Baby, I don’t want us to sleep with a heavy heart,” w/c: 1200 a/n: Hiii guys!!! This story kinda went everywhere hahaha. I hope you enjoy it nonetheless. :) (also I didn't proofread this so I'm sorry for any inconsistencies)
MASTERLIST; OTHER WORKS
“What the hell is this?” you raced to his office, phone in hand and article open. Your hands were shaking as you read the article, denial filled your mind like water in a cup. But now the cup overflowed, tipped the cup and shattered it along with your heart.
‘SEVENTEEN’S WONWOO caught on a date with a mystery woman? Could this be a friend, or something more?’
You know that dating someone in the entertainment industry, especially in one like his, was a risk and it will come with many fake rumours, fake articles, and fabricated stories; you were used to that. It’s happened before, with his managers, colleagues, and friends but you’ve never actually believed it.
However,
This article, instead of scrolling past it like any of the other ones, it became the straw on the camel's back.
“Babe, I’m playing right now,” he said, “can we talk about it later.” he continued on with the game as if he didn’t see your fuming presence by the door, or maybe he did but was just ignoring it. That pissed you off. His tone, his ignorance, his cold way of talking to you.
“No, Wonwoo,” you told him, “we need to talk. What the hell is this?” you stood there in place, fighting the urge to shut off his computer, shove the phone in his face and leave. Nothing. He acted as if he didn’t even hear you. At this time, you were shaking with anger. The irritation was bubbling up inside you waiting for it to erupt. “Wonwoo!”
“It’s just another stupid article, you should be used to it by now,” he rolled his eyes, “there’s nothing to talk about. I’m busy right now.” all this was said without a pause in the movement of his fingers, or even a glance at you.
“Fine,” you said, “Fuck me then, right? Have fun with your stupid game.” you put your phone in your pocket, moving around the room, collecting your things. “And when you win, celebrate with that side chick of yours because I’m fucking leaving.”
At that, he froze in his seat. He quickly took off his headphones, turning to you as you were grabbing any of your things that you could find. Hot tears were racing down your face as you gathered your things, and he stood up, going closer to you.
“Wait, Y/N,” he said, reaching for your arm, you shrugged him off and headed to your bedroom. He stood in the office, frozen. He rubbed his eyes as he thought about the mess that had just happened, then he heard you open a zipper.
He rushes quickly into your bedroom to see you throwing your clothes into an open suitcase. His brain starts to scatter, his heart starts to crack at the sight. He knows that this is his fault and hates it. He went over to you, trying to hold your hands but you just kept shrugging him off.
“Y/N,” he begged, “please don’t do this. Let's talk c’mon.” he didn’t notice that his face mirrored yours, his cheeks were valleys of tears. You just shook your head and continued packing. “Baby, please.”
“No, Wonwoo,” you told him, “don’t ‘Baby’ me. Leave me alone.” you continued, zipping up your suitcase and wiping your tears. “That's what you’ve been doing lately, so you must be used to it.” you put your suitcase aside and headed to bed. He watches you as you pass him, laying on your side of the bed but turned over so that your back is towards him.
He huffs and gets into bed as well. Sleeping in the same position you were. Backs turned toward each other, the small space in the middle untouched and though you were barely apart, the space felt like an ocean; a hundred miles separating the both of you.
He tried to sleep, but he just couldn’t. He couldn’t help the empty feeling in his stomach, the heaviness of his heart and the racing of his brain. He was twisting and turning, closing and opening his eyes.
He looked over at the time, 2:30 AM, and looked over to where you were. He noticed that you weren’t sleeping as well with the way your back rose in irregular patterns. Softly he called out for your name, turning over to get closer to you. He moved his hand to your shoulder, gently shaking it.
“Baby, I don’t want us to sleep with a heavy heart,” he whispered, “I’m sorry. Can you talk to me?” He hoped that you could find it in your heart to turn over, talk to him and forgive him. You didn’t move, pretending as if you were asleep, but you still felt his presence behind you. His hand, previously placed on your shoulder was now moved down your arm, rubbing patterns all over it; circles, hearts, and your name.
“I know you’re ignoring me, it’s alright,” he started, his voice just above a whisper, “I’m sorry for the way I acted just now, I know you just wanted to talk. I know that you were angry and to be honest, I don’t even know why I didn’t talk to you nicely. Trust me, I feel fucking stupid and I regret it so much.” He takes a deep breath before continuing, his inhales are shaky and you can sense that he was going to cry, “please, baby, just talk to me so we can clear this up. Please don’t leave me.
You turned over to him, you saw his eyes closed and head dipped down–he never wanted to let you see him cry. You don’t want to fight him anymore, not when he looked like this, not when he just told you what he did. You reached up to cup his face with your palms, wiping his tears away with your thumb. His eyes, glistening with tears, followed yours.
“I’m sorry too, Won,” you told him, “I just…” your sentence stopped as you remembered why you were angry at him. But you can’t find it in yourself to lash at him again, your mind has cleared since your argument.
“What is it, baby,” he said gently, “it’s okay, I won't be mad.” he tucked a piece of hair behind your ear. “What’s wrong?”
“It’s just, recently you’ve been ignoring me, being cold, or dry,” you started, not being able to look him in the eye, “You never even looked at me anymore. I don’t need an explanation, Wonwoo, I just want to know If you’re tired of me. Have you finally had enough?” you didn’t realise that you started tearing up again until he wiped your tears, “all I could think of was ‘what did i do?’ I thought I was a good girlfriend,” you were sobbing at this point. “I want to fix it, Won, I don’t want to leave, but if you don’t want me–if you don't,” you sniffled, “If you don’t love me–”
“Hey, no,” he quickly interrupted you, “Y/N, in no world will I ever not love.” he said sincerely, “I didn’t know that you felt that way, seriously.” he sat up and took your hand in his, playing with your fingers. The way his fingers traced yours, not only helped you calm down but him too. “I feel so fucking terrible. I don’t blame you, I should’ve talked to you about it.”
“I’m not making excuses right now, but I should’ve told you.” he sighed, “It’s been a really tough time at work, my schedule gives me no time to breathe, or do anything. I’ve been so tense recently and I've been so selfish that I didn't even stop to think about you,” he said, “about your feelings.”
“Wonwoo,” you cupped his cheeks, “I’m sorry too. I didn’t know you were feeling like that too, If only you had told me.”
“No, It isn’t your fault, babe,” he said, he looked at you and he chuckled to himself, “we should really communicate more.” you chuckled along with him. You looked into his eyes and noticed it shining with a different shine from the past week, it had love, care, and tenderness in it. It was the same shine that he had when he first met you, the night he first said ‘I love you to you’, the night you first kissed.
All those memories came back to you as you looked at him, his kind eyes, his soft smile, his fluffy hair, his warm hands. You reached over to him and kissed him. His lips were soft like they always were, and although kissing was something you normally did, this one felt different.
Love does feel different when it’s almost lost.
“I missed this,” he whispered against your lips, “I can’t believe I lived a week without your kiss.” you laughed as you rested your head on his chest. “And also,” he started, “that lady you saw in that article with me.” your head perked up at this, “It’s just my manager, seriously, she’s married and I don’t even think she likes that much.” you laughed, “please don’t over think, Y/N, we were just there to get drinks and we went back to the office.” he rolled over so that you were caged in his arms. “No one could ever replace you, I could never ever love anyone like I love you. Remember that, hmm?”
You nodded, smiling wide. Your heart felt lighter, your mind felt clearer, you were happier.
“If you did forget,” he smirked, removing his glasses, “I’ll help you remember.”
Extra: In the end, you didn’t end up leaving him, in fact it was tough for you to leave the bed at all.

april showers bring may flowers - choi seungcheol
member | seungcheol x gn!reader

word count | 2k
synopsis | when that time of year rolls around, seungcheol is reminded yet again why he loves you so much
warnings | mentions of death of unnamed character, lots of crying, mentions of breakfast, a couple kisses, cheol is grieving a lot
notes | do yourself a favor and DON'T listen to dk's cover of betelgeuse while you read this bc writing this while listening to that on repeat did smth to my heart
Seungcheol can hear you shuffling around in the kitchen from his bedroom, most likely preparing breakfast for him and the thought alone made his chest tighten. He knew that today wasn't any easier for you than it was for him, but the way you always put him first and prioritized his needs made him feel guilty but also grateful at the same time.
Laying an arm over his eyes, Seungcheol tried to ignore the dull, throbbing pain in his chest as he thought over what the day's itinerary would look like. He would eat breakfast, then get changed. You would then drive the two of you to the– Seungcheol could feel his throat closing up as he choked back an audible sob. Just thinking about visiting him was too much to bear. He heard your footsteps heading towards his bedroom and Seungcheol wiped his tears away in a hurry–just as you quietly entered his room.
"Cheol? You awake?" You asked in a soft voice. Seungcheol heard you padding over to his side of the bed, and he glanced at you with misty eyes. You were wearing a plain white top and beige pants. Bright, just like he had requested.
Seungcheol felt his lower lip quiver and immediately noticing this, you cupped his face with your soft hands and wiped away his tears that were now flowing like a steady stream, leaving a wet trail on his cheeks. Seungcheol let himself cry into your arms, his mouth crying bitterly into your shoulder as he gripped your arms tightly. You simply sat there, alternating between rubbing small circles and patting his back. Your own eyes welled up with tears as you heard your fiance sob and you tried your best to blink them away, but a single tear managed to escape and rolled down your cheek.
Once Seungcheol managed to calm down a bit, you brought his face up so you could look into his eyes. They were bloodshot and glossy, glinting and glistening in the dim light of the distant living room. In a different context, you would've described his eyes as shining and full of youth, but there was an unspoken sadness hiding under the brightness that made you think otherwise.
"I think this is gonna happen a lot today," Seungcheol mumbled. That made both of you crack a small smile and you pressed a light kiss to his forehead.
"That's why I brought four extra boxes of tissues with me. Don't worry, I'll catch every tear that falls today," You said with a quiet chuckle. "Come outside once you're ready, I made breakfast."
Seuncheol muttered out a small 'thank you' and watched you leave the room first. He had no doubt that you would catch every one of his tears. You've been doing exactly that for the past five years, ever since the accident.
The two of you were only a couple weeks into a new relationship when the sudden news of his best friend's death sent Seungcheol's life into a downward spiral. Anyone else would've been overwhelmed with the situation and asked to end things, especially since you had only met him recently, but not you. You were more determined than before to stay by his side and lend him a shoulder to cry on, should he ever need one. You became his pillar of support and Seungcheol doesn't know where he would be in life right now if you hadn't stayed with him.
Watching you from behind, he felt another pang of guilt in his chest. You were so perfect, why would you choose to stay with a mess like him? He was lacking in so many ways-
"Cheol, my love?" You called out.
"Yeah?"
"No need to feel guilty, okay? I'm doing what I'm doing because I love you," It was almost as if you read his mind. You sent him a reassuring smile. "I made a choice to stay with you all those years ago and I'm not backing out of my promise. Not today, not ever. Okay?"
Seungcheol could feel another wave of tears welling up in his eyes, and he wiped them away with the back of his hand. "Okay. I love you."
"I love you too."
The car ride to the graveyard was mostly quiet with the exception of a few strings of curse words that would leave your mouth whenever there was an 'idiot driver who probably peaked in high school'. That helped bring a small smile to Seungcheol's lips.
Once the two of you found the specific grave mound that belonged to Seungcheol's best friend, you wrapped a strong arm around his shoulder as he stared at the mound of grass that held the body of his friend of almost 25 years.
A violent sob racked through Seungcheol's body when he saw a fresh bouquet of lilies that he recognized as Soonyoung's. He must've visited earlier.
When Seungcheol's legs gave out under him, you helped soften his fall as you went down with him. Your arms remained firm around him as he cried into your shoulder, his quiet sobs speaking volumes of the pain that he was feeling. Your love clung onto you, holding you so tightly like you would also disappear if he let go for just one second.
You rubbed small circles on Seungcheol's back as you made soft noises to soothe him, your chin resting on the crown of his head. Once you thought he had calmed down a bit, you opened your mouth to speak.
"He would be so proud of you, you know. So proud of how far you've come in life. You might be crying but I'm sure he's smiling down on us right now," You mumble. You could feel Seungcheol trembling in your embrace and you resume making soothing noises.
"He spoke so highly of you before we met, I thought he might've been the one with a crush on you," You chuckled, reminiscing how your favorite senior was so ecstatic to set up his best friend with his favorite underclassman. "He really cared for you, my love. He cared for you so much."
Your fiance's cries only got louder. He wailed into your shoulder, the entire area now damp from his tears. Seungcheol silently cursed the universe, he cursed any and every deity in existence for taking his best friend from him. Oh, the things he would do to bring him back. He was willing to spend every penny of his life savings on his medical bills if it meant that he could be ablive. Seungcheol would've done anything and everything if he knew that he would lose his best friend in a matter of months.
You watched a lone tear drip down his cheek and drop to the grass below you, and you were reminded of something you told him five years ago.
"I need to stop crying," Seungcheol whispered to you. Almost everyone had left after the burial, heading back to the funeral home where dinner was to be served. You shook your head and patted his back. "At this rate, I'm gonna flood this place with my tears."
You cracked a small smile at his joke and pressed a kiss to his temple. "You can cry all you want. You can flood this place with your tears because you know what they say, right? April showers bring May flowers. The tears you shed now are gonna have beautiful flowers blooming in its stead because this too, shall pass. It may seem like everything is doomed and your life will never get better, but I promise you, everything does get better. After a long period of adversity and hardship, good things will always follow. And I'll stay with you through it all.
"I promise."
You knew it was okay to move when Seungcheol let out a shaky breath, one that usually signified that he was either done crying or ran out of tears to cry. Once he pulled away, he began apologizing profusely because his tears had soaked entirely through the fabric of your white shirt on your shoulder but you simply laughed.
You fixed his bangs with a warm smile and pressed a kiss to his lips. "I'm gonna go clean the other graves, you go ahead and talk with him."
Seungcheol felt his heart physically ache. This was one of the many reasons why he loved you so much. You were here to grieve, on his behalf, but here you were, cleaning and weeding the graves of strangers. When he asked you once why you always cleaned the graves of people you didn't know, your answer was his deciding factor for proposing to you (indirectly, he didn't ask you to marry him at a graveyard like soonyoung thought he did when cheol initially told him)
"Why do you clean the graves of strangers?" Seungcheol asked. The two of you were sitting on the grass, drinking makgeolli and watching the sun set behind Seoul. You looked over at him with a confused expression that said 'What do you mean?'
"I mean like- I don't know, I think it's just so... selfless. Like we're here to grieve, cleaning other's graves is the last thing on my mind if I'm being honest," Your then-boyfriend winced at his own words. "I sound horrible."
You couldn't help but laugh. "No, you don't sound horrible. It makes sense why you would think that way. Everyone's here because they have a reason to, I don't think anyone visits graveyards for funsies." Seungcheol nodded at that. "But if I don't, who will? The only thing the landowner does is mow the grass every other week. I think they deserve more than that.
"Especially the graves who no longer receive visitors. Their families may be living too far away or they don't have any family members or acquaintances to remember them and visit them. I think something as simple as weeding their area and pouring them leftover alcohol would mean a lot to them."
You shuffled in your spot to turn and face your lover. He looked at you with bright eyes that were slightly puffy from all the crying earlier that day. "Imagine this. You're living abroad for whatever reason, so you haven't been able to visit his grave for years. You feel so sorry because you can't take care of it like you used to, but one day, you return and see that the grave is still in a pristine condition, almost the same way you left it all those years ago. How would that make you feel?"
Seungcheol slowly nodded, as if he began to slowly understand what you meant. "I would be happy. And grateful. Because his grave wasn't neglected while I was gone."
You nodded back at him, happy that he understood. "That's why I clean other's graves. In case a situation like that were ever to happen. Through a small action like brushing away dead leaves, I could bring a smile to someone else's face."
Watching you in the distance, Seungcheol began to talk to his old friend. He gave him the latest updates on the happenings of the friend group, as well as his recent promotion. His eyes never let your frame as he talked, observing as you bent over to pull out a few weeds that you had spotted.
"We're getting married, you idiot," He said with a soft smile. "Thanks for introducing me to the love of my life. I really owe you one. I was gonna have you be the best man, but I guess I'm gonna have to stick with Soonyoung. [Name] is-"
Seungcheol's words got caught in his throat when he saw you waving over at him with the brightest smile on your face and a couple wildflowers in hand. The wind blew your hair past your face, whipping it around dramatically. You looked so beautiful like this, full of love and smiles. He couldn't believe he was the one to call you his, forever.
"They're the best thing that's ever happened to me."
reblogs and feedback is always appreciated ^-^

synopsis: when you have a rough day, all you need is seunghcheol.
word count: 0.5k | genre: fluff, hurt/comfort | pairing: cheol x gn! reader | warnings: bad mental health
you had just got home from work; your day had been terrible, a car splashing water on you, spilling your coffee all over your white shirt, and so many things you could count for hours. to say shortly, just were beyond exhausted, having done extra hours at the office on top of everything. you were making your way into the living room to just flop onto the couch and take a nap there before dinner, not even caring about changing your clothes anymore when you got a videocall from seungcheol. “hi baby, how was your day?” he asked in a happy tone, face glowing. you waved at him through the phone; his face lit up upon seeing you but that grin quickly faded when he realized that you must had a bad day, since you had a forced smile on your face. you sighed trying to compose yourself, but you knew it was useless since he always saw right through you. “it was so bad, i could honestly just cry right now.” you said, pouting, to which he mirrored your expression. “i’m sorry baby. you want me to come over? i miss you.” he cooed, seeing how your lip jutted out while trying to muster up the courage to answer without crying. “you don’t have to cheol, i know you have an early schedule in the morning.” you smiled sadly, getting on with asking him about his day and talking on the phone for a while.
not even an hour after your call with your boyfriend ended you heard a knock on your door. you raised a brow at this; you didn’t order anything and you had no idea what else could it be. “sorry but i think you have the wrong address, i am not waiting for any packages!” you shouted out from the hallway, not even being at the door to look at the person standing there, being too invested in your sadness. “open up baby! i didn’t get soaking wet and ice cold by walking to your house for you to say no to pizza. i have beer too. i know you’re sad, so let me in.” you heard cheol’s voice shout out to you through the door, and you jumped in surprise, not having expected your boyfriend to actually come over despite his busy days. you turned the lock, opening the big door to be welcomed by his arms around your shoulders and a kiss on your forehead. “my baby had a bad day, i had to come over to cheer you up, otherwise what kind of a boyfriend would i be?” he laughed, peppering kisses over your cheeks, which were stained with joyful tears. “thank you so much, i love you.” he grinned against your head, making your way to the couch to cuddle for a bit. “now tell me about all the bad in detail, let it out baby.” he said while tucking your head under his chin, his warmth making you feel at ease, making you let go of all of your worries.

"It is…" you trail off as you poke at the discarded pizza crust on your plate, "...going well."
Yunjin's smile retracts at your hesitant pause. "What's wrong?"
"I never said anything was wrong. On the contrary, if you were listening to what I just said–"
"That pause was at least three seconds long. Three seconds, Y/N! That's the first sign!"
You frown, "The first sign of what?"
"A fight. You're fighting with Mingyu, aren't you?"
"I mean, fighting is what we do. Most of our relationship is based on the other's ability to be a witty bastard." You scoff uneasily. "I think we'd be in trouble if we weren't fighting."
"You and I both know that's not what I meant," Yunjin sighs at your antics. "I'm talking about a real fight."
"...No. We're fine, Yunjin, you're worrying over nothing."
Though she drops the topic thereafter, you can tell by the way she bids you goodbye, leaving with a sneaky "make up with Mingyu before it's too late!!!" that she's not convinced. On the ride back home, you stare at your phone as you go over the conversation again and again. Biting your lip, you wonder why Yunjin had been inclined to think that you were fighting with Mingyu in the first place, anyway.
The thought, though not unsurprising, was a little out of place in your head.
Truth be told, all isn't well with you.
You'd been having a couple of rough weeks and it had a lot to do with the fact that you'd chosen to not go back home for the summer, choosing to stay in your college town to pursue an internship there instead. While the internship itself was overwhelming at times, at the end of the day, you felt more fulfilled than ever. However, the consequences of you not visiting your family had you rubbing your temples more often than not every time you fielded a call from one of your parents.
And though you'd told them that the only reason you weren't back home was your internship, there was more to it than that. For one, as much you missed basking in the attention of your parents and showering your sweet dog with love, you also were actively avoiding the suffocation of home: the prying questions about your future career, the insanely invasive relatives who would no doubt leave snide remarks in their wake, and of course, everyone's reactions to your best friend to lovers arc with Kim Mingyu.
You'd been renting a place with Mingyu over these few months because he, too, had decided to stay back to take a summer class and study in advance for some difficult courses next semester. Most days, it was everything you'd wanted: waking up to a warm bed and the sound of Mingyu snoring into your neck, slow breakfasts cooked mostly by Mingyu while you clung to his waist, and long days at the desk in front of your computer. Well, the last part wasn't ideal but every time your supervisor assigned you a new, more advanced task, you couldn't help but feel proud of yourself.
However, some days weren't as dreamy as you'd hoped they would be. To begin with, the past week had you waking up with heavy eyelids, perhaps something to do with the late nights you'd been pulling to finish your work, and an empty bed. Mingyu's class had started meeting earlier thanks to the heat in the afternoons, which meant you were left to fend for yourself during breakfast. Head heavy, you'd drag yourself to eat some sloppy cereal and get to work: somewhat manageable of a day.
But today as you're swirling through your bowl of muesli to pick out some raisins, your phone buzzes on the table. If the sudden sound doesn't startle you, the name on the screen definitely has your heart beating a little bit faster: it's your mother. You're already dreading the conversation.
"Hello?"
"Did you just wake up?" comes your mother's voice, her tone already hostile. Great.
"Um, yeah, I woke up like half an hour ago. Why?"
"...Nothing. It's just I thought you were really busy with classes."
"Mom, I've told you it's not class, it's an internship. Two very different things." You inhale deeply to calm yourself. When she asks you if you've eaten, you tell her you're currently having some muesli. Ignoring the scoff that she lets out, you ask her about her day, a question that she gives her usual vague answer to. You try to engage with her rationally, intent on getting some cordial connection with her.
But honestly, it's no use, your mother's set on picking you apart today and so she does, especially when you let it slide that Mingyu's at class.
"In class? Already? Y/N, you should learn a thing or two from him. Just because you're dating him doesn't mean you can slack off like this, okay? I don't want to see you become lazy over some man. I don't care how rich–"
You cut her off, afraid of what you might have to hear if you didn't. "Mom. I can't believe you're making this a competition! I'm not making an enemy out of my boyfriend because you want me to."
Your stomach lurches at how high-pitched your voice sounds to your own ears, vision blurring somewhere along the way. "Fine. If you're gonna scream at me every time I call you, I might as well stop."
"Mom–" She hangs up before you can say anything else, leaving you staring at the fading screen with her contact photo on it. It was a picture of the two of you, with you grinning as she leaned in to peck your cheek. It was maybe one of your favorite photos, especially when you came to associate it with phone calls with your mother, something that used to be a comfort amidst the chaos of your life. Now, you weren't so sure as you rested your forehead against the wooden table, eyes swimming with unshed tears. You blink them away, swallowing hard against the lump in your throat, because despite everything, you didn't have the time to cry over this.
So slowly, you pick yourself, wiping at your cheeks. You move on in your day, washing your dishes as well as Mingyu's from earlier this morning. You shower, and pat your face with skincare, find a shirt that doesn't remind you of home, and take a seat at your workstation in the living room. Headphones on your ears, the reminder of your fight with your mother slowly fades away as you begin working.
Despite everything, you found yourself thinking later that afternoon as you refilled your water bottle, you were so grateful for Mingyu and the stability that he brought you, whether it be as a friend or as a roommate. It was with this reliance on him that you pushed yourself through the day. So when he came back from class, more sullen than usual, you find yourself instantly unsettled.
"Gyu?" you call out, removing your headphones when the jingling of keys catches your attention. The big guy stoops in the hallway, removing his shoes and outerwear before stepping in. He makes eye contact and the soft smile he shoots you, you can tell, is forced. You're standing up, "Hey, you're late today. Everything okay?"
"Not at all. Prof kept us back late to throw extra credit stuff at us. It's ridiculous but I needed it, so I stayed back." You nod in understanding as you walk to him in the kitchen, watching as he washes his hand and pours himself cold water. "It was worst though, babe, I kept falling asleep."
You match the pout on his lips when he finally meets you at the kitchen counter, hands finding your waist as you press yourself into him. "Hmm, sorry to hear that, Gyu. Did you not sleep much last night?"
"No, it's real weird. I kept waking up in the middle of the night. And every position I slept in was so uncomfortable. Plus, I kept thinking I was gonna wake you up on accident."
"Ha, and since when have you cared about my sleep?" you chuckle into his chest, "Just wake me up next time and we can have hot cocoa or something."
Mingyu hums in appreciation around you, "I'll make you regret that offer tonight."
You hit him when you separate, eyes trailing back to your workspace and Mingyu catches on as his hands tighten around ever so slightly. Eyes desperate, he asks, "You wanna watch a movie tonight? I can order some fried chicken."
You light up momentarily and then are instantly reminded of the deadline that awaits you in a few days. Mingyu notices you stiffen a little and you sigh. "I have that stupid report due on Friday, Gyu," you whine.
"Can't you take a break for a while? You've been working so hard lately." Mingyu brushes your hair back, his thumb rubbing at your jaw gently. "You deserve some time off." When you seem to remain in your rumination period, Mingyu presses a peck on your lips. "Please?"
You groan as you playfully push him away, "God, I hate it when you're physically affectionate as a way to entice me into doing things with you."
"So movie night's on?"
"...Are you ordering the chicken or should I?"
"Hehe, I love you."
"Ew, stop, Gyu, go take a shower!!"
As you steer Mingyu toward your shared bedroom, you make your way back to your desk, invigorated by the promise you've made to Mingyu to finish as much as you can for tonight. The motivation's enough to push you into the zone as you go through your notes and begin typing away.
You don't realize how much time's passed until you feel Mingyu's cold hands press against your collarbones. You jump at the sudden touch but groan in familiarity as fingers gingerly find your scalp before you can scold him for surprising you.
But then you look at the time and curse under your breath, "Fuck, I forgot to order the–"
"It's okay, I ordered fifteen minutes ago. It'll be here in ten."
You kiss Mingyu's knuckle apologetically, "Thanks, babe. I'll let you choose the movie for tonight."
"Really?" he squeals, and you guffaw at the way he flaps his arms around excitedly, making his way to the couch and TV. "Oh my God, this is so sudden. I need to see if they have all the Nancy Meyers movies on Netflix– Or wait, I could pirate it– Or wait, what about our subscription to– Oh no, I forgot to pay the–"
You slowly turn back around as your boyfriend busies himself with picking a movie for the night and your head throbs as you look at your screen, feeling guilty about ditching the work that awaited you. But then, you tune back into the rambling Mingyu in your living room and you can't help but care more about sitting in your boyfriend's arms with fried chicken crumbs all over your lap.
And that's what you find yourself doing half an hour later. It's a little bit concerning how focused on the movie– The Holiday, Mingyu had finally chosen– so much so that you have to keep pushing him to eat as well. At one point he chokes on some chicken and you have to pat his back real hard to make sure he stays alive.
"Are you sure you're trying to keep me alive because–" Cough, "you're going really hard, babe."
You laugh as he returns to normal and push a glass of water toward him, "Of course, big guy, I wouldn't be able to pay rent if you died so keeping you alive makes top 3 on my to-do list."
"Top three? What's more important than keeping me alive?"
"First of all, rude. Second of all – duh, keeping myself alive. That's second on my to-do list."
"Y/N," Mingyu starts warningly, "Please don't tell me number one on your to-do list is to video-record me screaming at that one Youtube video of scary ghost sounds."
"No! Obviously not, Gyu."
"..."
"It was to record you crying over a video of babies saying their first words."
"Aww, come on, Y/N! You know how I feel about that! It's like their lives have begun when they start speaking! They're all alone in this big world!! And don't even get me started when their first words are a parent's name– That's like endgame right there!!!"
Eventually, the two of you manage to get back on track when it came to actually watching the movie – except, you don't. Admittedly, once you've both finished your food and settled in to focus on the television screen, you find your mind wandering. And while once that would've meant something entirely NSFW, thanks to your long hours, you find yourself thinking about work. The work that's sitting right there on your desk that you can see, just sitting there in the darkness, all tangible and full of consequences behind the TV. And once you start thinking, there's no stopping it and before you know it, you're all up in your head.
So much so that you're brought back to earth when Mingyu pauses the movie and stares you donw in silence. It takes you a moment but then you bite your lip as you meet his gaze, feeling like you'd been caught red-handed cheating on him. And well, the way he looked at you in disappointment, you might as well have been.
"Y/N, you've been looking at your desk longingly for the past ten minutes."
You really don't have anything to say for yourself except, "I'm really sorry, Gyu."
He sighs at your quick admission of guilt and you hate the way he peels his arm of your shoulder. "It's okay, if you need to work, you can go work."
"No, but we're watching a movie–"
"There's no point to it if you're distracted."
"I'm sorry, I won't think about work, promise."
"No, no, it's okay, babe," Mingyu reassures you, hand finding your shoulders, rubbing circles into it as you look back at him in dismay, "I'm serious, I don't want to keep you from completing your work. We can finish watching the movie later, alright?"
You deflate a little, "Okay. But I promise I'll make it up to you, okay, Gyu?"
Your boyfriend simply smiles at you and the sight makes you regret ever making him pause the movie when you could've been cuddling into his warmth instead. But he's so sweet when he kisses your cheek, "Don't worry about it, my love."
The next few days find you absolutely swamped because where you'd thought things would get better slowly, they only got worse. Your internship was more stressful than ever as you found yourself going later and later into the night to keep up with the tasks assigned to you. The report was coming along slower than you'd like. But while you could do something about those things, there were things that felt completely out of your reach.
For one, you'd been ignoring your mother's calls, a measure you'd taken to protect your fragile mental state. Each time you'd send her quick but cold text saying something along the lines of I'm too busy to talk right now. You felt bad every time you left her hanging but it was undeniable that you felt slightly less deranged in the monrings without her daily check-in.
But there was also the situation with Mingyu. Ever since movie night, you'd only spent lesser time with him, to the point that even getting to sleep in the same bed at him counted as a win for you. Even when he would come back around lunch but you'd be too busy working to notice and dinners were usually just the two of you talking back and forth about your days.
At dinner, he seemed fine, answering your questions about class enthusiastically and listening to your own responses eagerly. But you'd notice the way he'd be quick to clear the table once you were both done eating, not even taking the chance to ask you to watch a movie or talk more with him. And though it stung right through your heart, the fact that you couldn't afford to take the initiative yourself left you no choice but to watch as he retired to the bedroom for the night.
Which is when you come back from that lunch with Yunjin, your head's reeling. Were Mingyu and you fighting? Could you be? It didn't feel like a fight, it was a lot more nonverbal. More subtle. She'd asked you if things were okay and they weren't, but it's also not like they were terrible. They were just worse than okay.
But Thursday night came around, and you were closer than ever to finish that godforsaken report and head into a much-needed weekend off. Feeling a little cheery in anticipation of all the free time you'd have, you thought you might take a break and ask if Mingyu to get late night ice-cream, an offer you knew he would never turn down.
However, you're about to enter the room where Mingyu's said he's going go "rot while watching life-sucking short-form media content" (his own words from two hours ago) when you hear his low voice, presumably on the phone.
"...yeah, man, I don't know, it's getting pretty bad.."
You freeze instantly, your guts lurching as they tell you this conversation probably has something to do with you. Before you can feel bad about eavesdropping or consider the possibility that you're only projecting, Mingyu goes on–
"Of course I've told her! Or at least, I've tried to tell her. I keep trying to get her to leave the house for something other than grocery runs… but it's no use. I kinda gave up after that." He sighs heavily and you hear the sheets shuffle, probably as he turns to his other side, voice now muffled.
Your fists are at your sides, tight but shaky as you take in what he's saying, both in shock but also in acknowledgment.
"It's hard for me, too, yeah, I guess. I miss her… non-overburdened self. I wish I could end the stress somehow…"
His voice gets harder to hear at that point or maybe you stop listening– it's hard to tell with the flood of thoughts in your head by then. You detach from the bedroom door and your legs drag you to your desk. You feel yourself sit but mentally, you're still outside the room, hearing Mingyu's honest thoughts for the first time in a week. Honestly, you ought to have seen it coming, with your one-track mind and his tendency to keep things to himself.
I kinda gave up after that point… You know he's referring to getting you around to a healthier work schedule and still, you can't help but think of the words more generally. Like, in the context of your relationship and well– it was all dominoes anyway, right? One thing after another. Today, it was you neglecting spending time with Mingyu over your internship, tomorrow, what if he's giving up on you and your inability to prioritize?
You take in a deep breath to steady yourself, feeling your thoughts get out of control. But they don't let up, Mingyu's words ringing in your head loud and clear. He wanted to end the stress– you were causing him stress. You lean into your chair and look up at the ceiling, stomach uneasily swirling.
No, you tell yourself, you couldn't go based off a snippet of a conversation you eavesdropped on. Besides, Mingyu had every right to be tired of your work ethic and there was nothing you could do except try to get better at it. Slowly, you bring yourself to stare at your screen, plans to take an ice-cream break long abandoned.
A small part of you rationalized that it was already past one and starting tomorrow might be a better idea, but the larger and much more emotional part of you could only hear Mingyu's worn-out voice in the deep of night, and you know you can't stop till you're done.
…And that's how it's nearly six in the morning by the time you pick yourself off your chair. Good news: you've finished one of the biggest reports you'd submit during your internship, which meant you could take a few days off. Bad news: working an all-nighter on top of your sleep-deprived state meant you were barely functioning as you hauled yourself to bed.
More bad news: in your delirious state, you don't make it to the bedroom and pass out on the couch.
Three hours later, Mingyu wakes up to a cold pillow next to his and sits up faster than he's ever before, mind racing as he calls out for you. Going to sleep to an empty bed, he was used to, but waking up to one was new for him. Every morning, it was to your peaceful sleeping figure he'd open his eyes to, without a mistake. It was the one constant that he was holding on to every morning. So yeah, he's pretty panicked when he finds you passed out cold on the couch.
He debates why you might've slept on the couch instead of the bed and almost wakes you up because he can't stand the thought that he might've been the reason why. But he stops himself when he hears you snore quietly and instead presses a hand to your cheek lovingly– only to find you burning up.
"Fuck."
Fuck is right because when you finally come to, around two hours later, your body feels like a rock and not at all in a zen way. More so, in the way that every time you move, a shriek rips itself from your throat. Speaking of your throat, it's literally never been this dry. When you manage to sit up in bed and take a sip of the water that's conveniently placed next to you–
You half-choke on the liquid in your throat as you realize your surroundings. You didn't remember going to bed last night but then you spot the note on your side. It's from Mingyu.
Y/N: YOU WERE PASSED OUT ON THE COUCH LIKE AN IDIOT. YOU ALSO HAVE A FEVER. CAN U EAT THE PORRIDGE IN THE FRIDGE AFTER HEATING IT UP? I WILL BE BACK BY 3, HAVE A STUPID WORKSHEET TO TURN IN TODAY :(
And then, in smaller writing:
we'll talk when i get back, okay?
[PS: please be alive when i come back or trust, i will make u pay rent from your grave]
You laugh at his note, the scrawny letters ever so characteristic of him, but immediately regret it when your headache makes its presence known. You groan as you get out of bed. The morning only seems to get more painful as you nurse your burnout-induced fever. Because the universe has perfectly timed your period to start today. So that's already two kinds of pains you're fighting in bed, when your phone rings a little too loud for your liking.
You don't who else you expect: it's your mother. And this is probably not a good time to hear her voice, not when you weren't on good terms, but the combination of your period and a fever has left you more emotionally vulnerable than ever and you find yourself craving her love.
Except you should've known better because when you answer the phone in a weak voice, muttering a "Hi," she's already snapping at you. "Took you long enough to stop ghosting your own mother!"
"Sorry, Mom, I was just… really busy with work. But I'm–"
"Why do you sound like that?" she sounds concerned and the indication of worry has you feeling a little warm despite everything. So you let it slip that you're sick. And where you'd thought you'd receive consolation and cooing, your mother's only reprimanding you: "Great. Now you've gotten yourself sick. You can't even take yourself, can you? When will you grow up, Y/N?"
You barely hold the sob that escapes your lungs at her harsh criticism and she catches on: "Are you crying? Y/N, you're such a kid–" And that's it, you give up. Silently, you hang up on your mother but instead of watching her contact photo fade, you throw your phone away from you in despair and hear as it lands on the floor with a crash.
And God, everything might've hurt like hell before but now that you're crying, it's so much worse, you think you're going to die. But painful or not, the nasty crying actually feels good when it's out of your system and you think your fever might even be clearing up by the time you hear the front door open, signalling Mingyu's return.
You sit up in bed, tears long wiped and phone recovered from the floor, as Mingyu enters the room with careful steps. When he notices you awake, he relaxes and meets your eyes with a concerned frown.
"Hi, Gyu," you greet him through a small smile.
Mingyu's cautious, more so than you've ever seen him as he regards you from the door of your bedroom: "Hi, babe. Are you feeling better?"
You nod, "Much. Thanks for the porridge. It was disgustingly healing."
Mingyu approaches the bed now, but instead of the quick affection you thought you might receive, he only narrows his eyes at you. Damn it, what was it with your loved ones and just being nice to you for once? (It might have something to do with… like, the consequences of your actions but you don't want to think too hard right now).
"Why…" Mingyu starts and his voice is unfamiliarly grave. You almost shiver because you must've fucked up big-time if Kim Mingyu's bringing up serious talk for the first time in your years-long relationship with him. "Did you sleep on the couch last night?"
You swallow against your throat, dry once again but for different reasons. "Um, funny story, I kinda passed out there last night… or this morning. But!" you quickly supply your mistake with, "I finished my report early so I have all of today and the weekend to just do nothing."
Once again, Mingyu's looking at you, face serious, not even a hint of a smile and Yunjin's words are returning to you. As much as you hate to admit it, maybe you are fighting with Mingyu and fuck, you hate it.
"Are you seriously pretending like everything's okay, Y/N?"
Mingyu's words are like a slap across your face, except instead of sending you flying, you end up returning to his words the night before. It's hard for me, he'd said, and you feel the weight of your selfishness all at once, the doubts you'd gotten yourself sick over invading your mind once again. Your eyes fall to your hands.
"You've been working yourself like a dog, Y/N! And now you're sick! Does that make you happy?"
God, you hate the way he says your name like it's a bad word. Or worse, like you're a stranger. Everything he says is a reminder of the burden you've been to him.
"I'm sorry," your voice is small and you raise your eyes to his– which is a mistake because you catch the hurt look on his face and fuck, you're tearing up. So much for getting it out of your system beforehand. "Fuck, I'm so sorry, Gyu."
Mingyu, on the other hand, is completely taken aback when you start shaking, hot tears streaming down your face rapidly. He'd been upset at your poor health and your mental condition the past few days, but he'd expected you to fight back; to defend your actions and to justify why you did what you did like you usually would. It'd be an intense going back and forth but the two of you would eventually fight it out.
But to see you break like this, fists wrapped tight around each other to the point of white– shit, he hadn't seen this coming.
The thing is you've both been on completely different wavelenghts for a while now. Where you've been plagued with self-doubt and guilt because of work, strained calls with family, and now, your fight with Mingyu; Mingyu's just been lonely. It didn't help that you weren't doing too much except small talk in your free time with him.
"Hey, baby, please, I'm– I didn't mean to make you cry. Please, you'll make yourself more sick."
You look up at him through tears in confusion, voice breaking, "You're… not mad at me?"
Mingyu frowns, "I am. But it doesn't mean I'll watch you cry yourself to death."
"God, I'm sorry, Gyu… I– I overheard you talking on the phone last night."
It takes him a moment to make sense of what you're saying but when his own conversation comes back to him, his heart's squeezing uncomfortably. "You heard me?" He feels guilt, regret, and hurt all at once.
"I'm so sorry, Mingyu, I didn't mean to be such a bad girlfriend– heck, I was such a bad roommate this past week. And I'm sorry I was a burden to you when you have your own problems to deal with–"
Mingyu interrupts you when he crawls upto and places your face in his hands, forcing you to look up at him. His eyes are wide and you can visibly see the tears pricking there as he stares at you. "Y/N, the literal love of my life, what the actual fuck are you saying? You're not a burden to me. And what problems have you burdened with me when we barely talk about anything real these days?"
You purse your lips at the deserved call-out and Mingyu shakes you, "Babe, I wish you were more burdensome. I want to know everything that's worrying you. Please, I can't be there for you if I don't even know what demons you're fighting."
You blink away fresh tears at his genuine words. "I'm… on my period."
"Oh," breathes Mingyu, hands dropping to your shoulders, "Is it your first day?"
"Yes. And I've been fighting with my mom. My whole family maybe. But specifically her."
Mingyu wraps his arms fully around you this time. "God, I'm so sorry, Y/N. I had no idea you were having family problems. Is it because you didn't go back home?" When he feels you slowly nod against him, he says, "That sucks. But did you tell them how hard you've been working at this internship?"
"Mhmm, but my mom still thinks I won't ever be as good as you."
Mingyu pulls away at that, "Me? You talk to your mom about me? Wait, no, I mean, why does she think that?"
You contain a smile, "She knows you have summer school and that you go to class at nine. That's much more admirable than stupid little me who wakes up at eleven and eats cereal for breakfast. And then I went and got sick. So now she also thinks I can't take care of myself."
"...I think she might be right about that last part," Mingyu tells you with a pointed look and you push him away with a broken sigh.
"I know, but you know what really gets my goat, Gyu? That you were dishing about me to someone else instead of calling me out to my face. If I was being a little bitch, I would rather you tell me. I don't want you to bottle it up and end up feeling resentful toward me."
"Hold on a minute, where is this coming from? Who said anything about you being a little bitch? If anything, you were a really massive bitch but only to yourself. I could tell that you felt bad about not spending time with me. But I wasn't ever resentful, I was just… lonely. I meant what I told Shua last night: I just miss you! And doing things with you..."
You scan his face for signs of any dishonesty but it's the same handsome but honest face that stares back at you. You lean into him until your forehead bumps against his chest, partly to feel his warmth again and partly to hide the tears that bubble out again. "Sorry. I was just. I was so scared that you were gonna want to break up with me."
Almost instantaneously, Mingyu's grip is on you, stronger than usual so that it actually hurts as he pulls you away. "What?" he asks in disbelief, "Are you genuinely insane. I'm going to need you to never say those words again. Please. Don't bring the possibility of that into existence or I will have to hurl myself back into my mother's womb."
You find yourself half-laughing and half-crying at his hysteric concern, entertained but also so incredibly relieved that Mingyu hates the thought of leaving you as much you do.
While you don't say anything and simply travel the territory between laughter and tears, Mingyu is genuinely losing it: "No, Y/N, I don't think you understand. That is simply not on the table. We've been dating for like, three months? I have so many things I want to do with you, okay? So if you're having these thoughts, throw them the fuck out because I'm going to actually pass away."
You finally break and shut Mingyu up with a kiss– a real kiss, and only pull away to mumble, "It's been a while, boyfriend. I love you so much it hurts."
You're only a little shocked when Mingyu sniffles, because you'd felt his cheeks dampen halfway through the kiss. His hand finds the back of your neck, keeping your lips a breath away from his. "Stupid girlfriend. Thinks she can play with my feelings and then kiss her way through a sorry." But he kisses you again anyway and you kiss him back with equal passion, convincing him enough to stop his crying.
"God, we must both look like shit right now," you giggle when you pull away, running a finger across his red cheeks. "Sorry I made you cry."
"I love you," Mingyu replies, "And if you ever overwork yourself to the point of sickness again, I will hurt you."
"The way we talk is concerning to me sometimes. It sounds like we're… married or something. As if we're not literal college students. And as if you're not the biggest coward ever."
"Not sure why you felt the need to say that last thing but– Wasn't it Kazuha who said we were like her parents sometimes? We could live-stream our fights and market them as childhood nostalgia for kids around the world."
You can't keep your laughter in at his plan, but hit his arm anyway to let him know where you stood. "Damn it, Kim Mingyu, that's it, I'm going to call Zuha and tell her to block you as soon as she can."
"But before I do that, can we go back to being irresponsible, unmarried young adults in love and order take-out for dinner? Please?"
Mingyu's grinning already, and you want to pick him up and pocket him for how adorable he can be but resort to gazing at him with hearts for eyes as he declares, "Of course, love, what do you wanna eat tonight?"
"You can decide. I'll go wash up in the meantime."
"Wait, I'll come with, I need to shower, too."
Now things start to get better. You settle into a comfortable silence with Mingyu, and as you snuggle next to him, you let the scent of him overwhelm you with a giddy smile. The food in your plate is warm and Mingyu is giggly as you finally finish watching The Holiday, and for once, your period cramps are merciful, for the pain of laughter brewing in your stomach is far more intense.
And the pain of love, as you watch Mingyu put away the leftovers from dinner and clean up the kitchen for the night. You'd volunteered to do the dishes but he simply pushed you into a chair at the kitchen table with a soft sigh and honestly, you're not complaining. He's better at doing them anyway.
In the dim glow of the quiet kitchen light, Mingyu's all soft edges, so careful as he wipes the damp plate you'd shared just a few minutes ago and the look in his eyes is loving when he finally makes his way back to you, asking if you'd like to head to bed now.
For the next few days, it's so easy to forget about time because you find yourself talking it away in Mingyu's arms, fighting the urge to kiss him every time he guffaws at something you say. But you also let him drag you out of the house, a real date in the city, both of you dressed up and blushy under the lamplights as you walk back from dinner.
Wine-drunk, Mingyu stops you outside the front-door to the apartment and leans down to peck your cheek. The modest action has you all flustered and you let out an embarassed huff. "What are you kissing me good-night for?" you ask, more amused than you are confused.
Mingyu's eyes twinkle in response, head clearly wrapped around some new plot. "I said I'd walk you home. This is home. You should head inside first."
You laugh when he stands with his hands politely clasped in front of him, catching on to the bit. Only Kim Mingyu would think to pretend to be a shy first date dropping you off home, as if you hadn't known each other for as long as you'd known to love.
"Ah, I didn't even realize we reached home. Such a shame," you cheekily step closer to him, one hand brushing against his crossed arms, "Do you want to come inside? We can… do things."
Mingyu breaks character with a toothy grin at that, "You're so bad at this!"
"What?" you ask in feigned offense, "I'm inviting you inside!"
"Yeah, but to "do things"? Is that really how you've been flirting with your first dates, babe? Actually, no, don't answer that– Unless? There's no way that works, right? Or do you just charm your way through the awkwardness– No, but that's just–"
"Okay, now you're rambling, big guy," you hook an arm around his and pull him inside after you. "Come on inside, we have things to do."
"Hmm, and these things…" Mingyu hums with an undertone of mischief, his arms sneaking around your waist already, "...they wouldn't include getting naked and um, cuddling?"
"Gross, Gyu! I was offering to watch a movie but– You're such a creepy little pervert– Ha– AGH, Okay, okay, okay, sorry, I'll stop! You can drop the threatening sock now please– NO, DON'T YOU DARE THROW IT AT ME, KIM MINGYU–"
The next day, you're sure to call Yunjin up, who picks up with a heavy groan and before she can curse you out for waking her, you ask her if she wants to get lunch. "Gyu's coming, too, if that's okay?" Yunjin pauses. And then: "Ugh. So you guys finally made up? Thank God. I was getting tired of the passive aggressive texts from Joshua about you and Mingyu. Speaking of which, can I invite Joshua? He'll shut up if he sees you two in love in person."

summary: your roommate may not know how to help you feel better, but that won’t stop him from trying. pairing: jeon wonwoo x reader au: roommates to ?, pining, sick fic type: drabble (hurt/comfort, fluff) rating: pg13 — still, minors do not have my consent to interact with my content. cw: gn!spoonie!reader; downbad!best boi!super shy!roommate!wonu; chronic illness/pain is implied but no diagnosis is specified; hand-holding 👁️👄👁️; barely proofread because brain fog, lol. a/n: this is super self-indulgent and based on my own personal experience with chronic illness (fibromyalgia), so it may be different than yours!! wc: 1k
Wonwoo isn’t psychic, but he knows that something is up the second he gets home from work.
Walking through the door of your shared apartment, he moves immediately to deposit his keys on the nearby hook and finds that yours are already there. Odd, he thinks, given your habit of imposing your own overtime. Your commute is shorter than his, and you still never beat him back here.
He looks down as he toes off his shoes, carefully maneuvering them across the mat to avoid both your heels and your sneakers, which don’t seem to have budged since this morning. Wonwoo frowns. It’s rare for you to skip out on the gym at the end of the day, but it’s unheard of for you to miss work — even when you should, in his non-expert opinion.
That’s a bit of a red flag, he’ll admit.
Wonwoo locks the door behind him, pads off across the kitchen and through the adjoining living room, and eventually stops at your bedroom door. It’s cracked open — a secret code of yours, he’s learned. One that means you don’t want to be alone, but you feel the need to warn him about what’s on the other side. Usually, it’s you, deflated in your bed in a way that you find embarrassing. Still, even on your worst days, he’s never seen you look bad.
He’s not convinced that you could if you tried.
Softly, Wonwoo raps his knuckles against the doorframe to warn you. In response, he gets a muffled, “Hello?” It wraps around his heart and squeezes just a little. He loves that about you; how gentle your voice is when everything else you’re experiencing feels the opposite.
You lift your head up just enough to make eye contact with him as he slips through the doorway, and you smile. If it aches to do so, you pretend like it doesn’t.
He clears his throat awkwardly. “Hey.”
Admittedly, this is the part that Wonwoo feels he’s worst at. He’s never quite sure what to ask or what he can do to help, always simultaneously afraid of being patronizing or too hands-off. It’s a balancing act; his equilibrium is off.
And, god, he’s so shy when it comes to you. He can’t make himself act on any of the comforting impulses he absolutely has, so he simply pauses at the end of your bed and sweeps his eyes over your frame. A triage of sorts, he supposes.
You’re on your right side, hugging a hot water bottle, and there’s a Munchlax plush between your knees to keep them separated. Your left hip hurts, he guesses. It’s probably safe to assume that the rest of you does, too. Crinkling his nose as he thinks, he asks, “One to ten?”
Another code.
Wonwoo has to adjust the scale when you answer — three — because your three is his eleven. The good news isn’t lost on him, though: Your pain was a six during the last flare. Things may not be great, but they’ve definitely been worse.
“Mostly just tired,” you sigh, as if you can hear the calculations he’s running in his head. “I was this close —” You lift an arm and pull your thumb and index finger in so that they’re almost touching. “— to making it out the door this morning.”
Dropping your arm again slowly, you pat the space next to you in silent invitation. Wonwoo’s body hesitates, even though his pulse doesn’t. It’s par for the course, unfortunately for him.
He wonders how many moments like this need to pass before his palms don’t sweat anymore. Will filling the spot next to you on your bed, on the couch, or even in your passenger seat ever not affect him like this?
Maybe not.
He’s okay with that, so long as you keep giving him the opportunity.
You laugh, and it single-handedly diffuses the tension in his posture. “I think the side of the bathtub got taller. I almost had to yell for you to haul me out of there, but I managed.”
“Proud of you.” He’s chuckling now, too, but that doesn’t undermine how much he means it. Getting your body to cooperate with you is always hardest in the mornings.
For what it’s worth, he would’ve come running if you’d called.
Carefully, Wonwoo sits down on the vacant side of your bed and scoots closer to you, knowing you’ll call him out for leaving distance and anticipating how badly he'll blush if you do. It’s so much easier for you to be close to people than it is for him, but he’s trying.
He hopes you see that.
There’s a microscopic wince when you wiggle your way towards him. It’s replaced quickly by a satisfied little grin once you settle, your body curving around his bent knee like a puzzle piece slotting into place.
“You always run warm,” you muse. “I’m jealous.”
Wonwoo blinks, a little dumbfounded that you’ve noticed — not that he should be, really. He’s obviously picked up on a lot of trivia about you since you took over his former roommate’s lease several months back. If he knows the order of your skin care routine, it’s not weird for you to know that he can’t sleep without a fan on.
Should he have noticed this about you by now?
Curiosity makes him bold, apparently. He pulls his palm off the mattress and touches his fingertips to the back of your hand. “Goddamn,” he whistles.
His hypothesis is proven the second he touches you — you’re freezing — but Wonwoo admittedly gets a kick out of the temperature disparity. He can’t help but run the pads of his fingers absentmindedly over your skin, tracing nonsense patterns. You can’t help the pleased hum that slips out of you as you watch his ministrations; or the way your heavy eyelids start to interrupt your view.
Even when he’s sure you’ve been lulled to sleep, Wonwoo keeps doodling. It’s got to be exhausting to exist in a body that always aches, and you deserve whatever rest you can get. Truth be told, he could probably stay like this for hours if that would help. He’d be doing the same thing at his PC, anyways, holding a mouse instead of your hand.
Yeah, he thinks, this is a much better set-up.

family line
Summary: When things go too far in your household, your best friend finally learns about the dark history of your family.
Pairings: Joshua x reader
Genre: hurt/comfort, angst, AU
Relationship: Platonic
TW: Mentions of bl00d, physical/psychological abuse from parents, crying. If any of this is triggering please refrain from reading this fic. This fic takes place in an AU. This does not portray the artist or artists in real life.
You were done. You couldn't spend one more hour in the house you lived in for far too long. You only agreed to stay with your parents after college while you were apartment hunting, but you’ve been in the house 22 years too long, and it was time to get out. You stood in front of the mirror in your bedroom that was now cracked, holding onto your arms that were beginning to bruise. It hurt a little to breathe, given that a hand (and occasionally a fist) connected with your body not too long ago. You were able to protect your face for the most part, and if there was a bruise forming it was long forgotten, you were quick to put on makeup to cover up any evidence. You were genuinely shocked there was no blood drawn this time. After a few deep breaths and one final examination of the makeup you just applied. you texted the only person you knew would be up at this hour.
Y/n: hey, I know it’s a long shot, but do you care if I crashed in your couch just for tonight, maybe even tomorrow night too? Its okay if you say no.
He wasted no time responding back to you.
Shua: Yeah of course! Everything okay?
You swallowed the lump in your throat, typing away. He knew your living situation wasn't ideal but it was what you could afford as of now. You've spent most of your days at his place but always went home in the evening. The one and only time you have ever spent the night at his place was when you had a movie night with him and the guys and you ended up falling asleep on his couch, and it was easy to say that was the most peaceful slumber you have ever had probably in your entire life.
Y/n: Just family stuff...
Shua: I'm on my way, see you in 10
You let out a shaky exhale as you put the essentials in your duffle bag. This should last you a couple days. Not even 8 minutes later your phone buzzed.
Shua: "I'm here y/n"
You exhaled and opened your window, quietly climbing out of it. You've done this hundreds of times, you're grateful you haven't been caught. Joshua parked in his usual spot, a block away, out of site out of mind in case your parents woke up. You came around the corner, the door already unlocked and ready for you to hop in.
"Hey y/n" he said gently. You gave him the best smile you could until his eyebrows furrowed.
"What happened?" he asked, eyeballing the bruise forming on your arm. Your heart dropped; forgot to put on a jacket to cover up your arms. He reached to examine it, heart-shattering as you flinched. His eyes widened when the realization hit him.
"I'm sorry..." you say queitly. He shook his head. Why were you apologizing?
"Why are you apologizing?" he asked absolutely baffled. You've flinched around him before, when someone was too loud or when someone made sudden movements but he always thought you were just a jumpy person. He didn't know the extent of the abuse that happened at that house. He knew your parents were narcissistic and slightly mentally abusive (from what you've told him) but he didn't know it went this far.
"Nothing, sorry I don't know why I'm apologizing," you chuckle, trying to ignore the burning behind your eyes. His eyes widened.
“Y/n, did someone do this to you?” he asked. The lack of response was killing him. Joshua wanted to press further but not while they were on the street. He swallowed and put the car into drive. He looked over at you and oh so slowly held out his hand. You looked down at it and took hold of it. He ran his thumb over yours in a comforting motion, hoping to soothe you even a little, to let you know you were safe. You took deep breathes through your nose, willing the tears from spilling. Once you two pulled up to his place, he turned off the engine and opened his door to get out. When he saw you hadn't gotten out yet, he appraoched your door and opened it.
"Whatever is going on, you're safe here y/n, I promise," he said comfortingly. You bite your lip and nod. He grabs your bag for you and he unlocks the door, allowing you into his home first. He closed the front door as quietly as humanly possible so you wouldn't jump. The smell of vanilla and the warmth of his home sprung tears to your eyes. You're here almost everyday, but this night was different. Tonight it went too far at your house, and you knew you didn't want to go back, but what choice did you have?
"Y/n..." Joshua whispered when he saw tears already running down your face. He wanted to hold you so bad, but looking at the state you were in, touch might've been the last thing you wanted.
"Can I--can I hug you?" he asks. You nod rapidly when the first sob of the night rips from your throat. He didn't know if he should approach you first or if he should wait till you come to him. Luckily you made that decision for him as you walk to him, essentially throwing yourself on him, whimpering at the pain you caused yourself but you didn't care. He carefully wrapped his arms around you, wondering if there were bruises anywhere else besides your arm. He realized you also had makeup on, more than usual. His heart fell to his stomach realizing what happened.
"Y/n...honey, what happened?" he asked, trying to keep his voice stable. You cried harder, squeezing your eyes shut.
"D-Dad got mad...took it out on m-me," was all you could say before yet another gut-wrenching sob ripped from your throat. Your grip on Joshua's shirt tightened, and the lump in his throat was getting harder to swallow as he started stroking your head.
"How long has this been going on, angel?" he asked shakily. He tried to keep his voice steady, he really did. He was hoping you'd say just this once, he prayed and prayed you wouldn't say longer than this.
"Years...he's been doing this for years..." you whimper as your body shook harder. Tears were soaking into his shirt now.
"Baby..." he choked as tears started falling. Your best friend of lord knows how many years had no idea you were being physically abused this entire time. You always had a smile on your face, and even when you had "issues" with your parents you always shrugged and said "it's whatever" when Joshua would ask if you were okay. He wasn't going to make you relive what you just experienced, so he stood there, holding like he was protecting you from the world, whispering calming and encouraging phrases in hopes to get your heart to stop hurting.
"I got you"
"Let it out, let it all out, honey,"
"You're safe here"
"No one can hurt you anymore"
"I'm here, I'm right here"
“I love you so much”
At some point you two moved over to the couch, pulling you down so he could hold you in his arms properly. Your sobs had subsided but the tears wouldn't stop. This entire time while your face was buried in Joshua's chest, he was shedding his own silent tears. How did he not see this? After all these years.
"Its not your fault," he hears you say. He looks down at you, staring into your gorgeous eyes that were red and glossy.
"Its my fault for not telling you-" you start before Joshua gently shushed you, stroking your hair once again.
"None of this is your fault, none of this was ever your fault, sweetie," he says gently, sniffling when you reach up to wipe at his eyes. He understood why you wouldn't say anything, but he was so hurt that you went all these years, just accepting it all as if you deserved it. Joshua felt sick. There was no way in hell he was letting you go back to that house, but you were in such a vulnerable state right now, he knew he needed to phrase his words differently.
"Y/n?" he asked, waiting for you to respond. As soon as you hummed, he took a deep breath. "I would feel more at ease if you stayed here until you found a place of your own. And if you want to stay here permanently, I would be more than honored to have you as a roommate," he said sincerely. Your eyes widened. You wanted to interject, tell him you were fine, but you have done that long enough, and the idea of not stepping back into that home sparked joy in your heart.
"Are...are you sure?" you ask. Your heart broke looking at him as he nodded, tears filling his eyes. Oh he was dead serious.
"Thank you..." you breathe out as tears of relief fall down your eyes. You hug him tightly, ignoring the pain you feel in your ribs and arms. You didn't care. You were safe. Joshua was your safe space. Your family wasn't blood, your family came in the form of your friends who had nothing but love for you.

dust — jeon wonwoo | 919 words | fluff, hurt/comfort
stream dust till it creates a black hole in your heart! 10/10 recommended!
gender neutral reader. warnings: none.
wonwoo comes home from a long but productive day in the studio only to find you lying on the bed of your shared bedroom with your laptop to your side and his sweatshirt in your hands.
you're curled up on yourself and facing him, but you haven't registered his presence yet.
his first instinct is to defend himself — he hasn't done anything wrong. that he's aware of. your house was not a mess when he left this morning. he woke up at the same time as you, and because you were going to be late for work, he managed to help fold your bedsheet, prepare breakfast while you showered and keep your stuff ready so all you had to do was grab them and dart out of the door.
he'd called you in the afternoon to check in on you after the hectic morning you'd had, and you'd sounded fine. tired, but fine. your presentation had been due but you seemed confident enough that it would go well.
did it not go well?
he takes a step forward and calls out your name. he just wants to hold you in his arms and know that you're okay, even if you might not want to tell him what's wrong.
you look at him and let out a sad noise. he can't take it anymore.
"can i sit next to you?" he asks, only taking his place next to you when you nod. "hey," he says, resting a hand on your back.
"hey," you say, but your voice breaks and it sounds like you've just pronounced the eighth letter of the alphabet. wonwoo swallows a smile and rubs his hand up and down your back.
"did me being here in spirit help?" he asks, pointing to the sweatshirt in your hand. you look at the piece of clothing in your hand and tighten your grip on it.
"please don't...break up with me?"
wonwoo frowns. that's not what he expected you to reply with. he tries to rack his brain for reasons why he'd ever do that.
"did you cheat on me?"
his question shocks you enough to get you to sit up straight, looking at him. "how could you think i'd ever—"
"because that's the only reason i'd break up with you."
you blink. "oh," you say, "so it's fine if i...i don't know, finish the last of the cookies we saved?"
he gives you his most unimpressed stare, only because he knows it always makes you smile. you push the sweatshirt away and reach out for him, and he's more than happy to be held by you.
"i don't want our relationship to be like dust," you say after a while.
wonwoo tries to decipher your metaphor, not that you speak often in them. he lifts his head to give you a questioning look when his mind comes up with nothing.
"i was listening to fml."
right. the album's just come out a couple of days ago, and you promised you'd listen to it when you got the time.
"is it so bad that you're down?" he asks.
you let out a watery laugh at that. it's enough to reassure him to lie down again.
"it's the opposite of that. it's pretty good, actually," you say, resting a hand in his hair, lazily tousling it.
wonwoo's train of thought has reached its final stop. "baby, you're going to have to help me out here."
you sigh, almost into his hair. "i heard dust."
"so what if you— oh."
"yeah, oh."
wonwoo's consumed by an intense surge of affection for you. he tries to pull himself into you even closer, only paying the slightest attention when you push at his shoulder and complain about not being able to breathe.
"baby," he says, feeling his voice take on a tone he knows you're going to chide him for, "you do know i had nothing to do with writing that song?"
he feels you nod.
"you also know i'm not the one who sang anything on that song?"
he can almost hear the gears turning in your head before you mumble a soft, "shut up, wonwoo." and then, "you're going to break your glasses if you hold me like that any longer."
"don't care." but he rolls away when you push his shoulder. "do you seriously think i'm going to break up with you some day?"
you shrug. "sometimes. bad days."
"why don't i ever hear about them?"
you sigh. "it's stupid. not worth your time."
wonwoo shakes his head. "you don't get to decide that, baby."
you look at him with a small smile on your face. "that's the third time you've called me that today."
"i'll say it again if you want me to."
when you say nothing, he rolls back next to you, mindful of your laptop. it's been a while since you've just hung out, doing absolutely nothing together.
"hi, handsome."
he closes his eyes at the compliment. "i was thinking."
"oh, no."
he pinches your side gently. "it's raining outside."
"is it?"
"do you want to go out?"
"in...the rain?"
"i was thinking we could film a video to this song. so you don't feel sad the next time you hear it."
your eyes widen with what he can only call love, before you wrap yourself around him tightly.
"i love you, wonwoo, i love you, i love—"
"i love you too, baby," he says, holding you closer to him. loving you is the easiest thing he's done.

Insomnia.
Pairing: Joshua x gn!reader
Genre: fluff, hurt/comfort
Synopsis: Your boyfriend comforts you when you can't sleep.
"Darling, why aren't you sleeping?" He groggily sat up. You'd been tossing and turning for the past 30 minutes, which led to your boyfriend waking up.
"Can't sleep."
"C'mere," He pulled you by your waist, your back against his chest. "We'll fall back to sleep together, hm?"
You turned around to bury your head in his chest. It felt so warm, the way his arms wrapped around you, pulling you closer to hear the sounds of his heartbeat.
"What's on your mind?" Silence. "Darling?"
"I'm just so tired— and sleep just isn't coming." You whispered.
Your voice was hoarse and exhausted, barely above a whisper. The exhaustion was eating at you and you were only yearning for a way to get you to sleep.
He gently patted your back. Silence engulfed the room but it was as if some unspoken words were going on between you two. He knew you had insomnia and that it was difficult— very difficult for you to fall asleep but despite that, he wanted to share your sleepless night with you even if it meant waking up tired like he had been sleeping on rocks
You were starting to feel drowsy as your boyfriend told you about his day and random things about the past "Remember when when you used to like me and you wouldn't look me in the eye." He chuckled "I used to think you hated me then."
You smiled to yourself, remembering how you used to act around him. Joshua had always been the one person who knew how to make you smile in the toughest of times, despite not being at his best either.
He was tired. It was apparent from the way he kept yawning every few seconds but he still insisted on keeping you company.
You were finally getting drowsy and your eyes were slowly closing on their own. "Love you Shua." You whispered before finally closing your eyes, drifting off to dreamland.
"I love you too darling." He smiled before his head finally fell back on his pillow.

Not Alone- an S.Coups Story
Chapter 3
Pairing: Seungcheol x F. Reader
Genre: strangers x friends x lovers, Hurt x Comfort, found family, seventeen being the best friends and brothers.
Synopsis: After begging the famous K-pop sensation S.Coups for help in the Seoul street market your life completely flips upside down, bringing you true friendship and a chance at true love.
A/N:This story is purely fiction. It talks about harsh things such as domestic violence, suicide and anxiety. This in no way represents the artist or their families. It is all made up🫶🏻
*one week later*
Scoups woke up the sounds of screaming, jumping out of bed and stumbling over his own feet. His brain was still asleep, throwing open his door, the screams coming from your bedroom. His heart fracturing at each whimper that came out. The helpless moan of you begging someone to stop. He put his hand in the door handle, still locked. Sliding down the door he started calling your name, hoping to pull you out of the darkness that plagued you at night. You had been having nightmare since you moved in and each night he did his best to help you through the door. The footsteps of his brother Seungmin sounded up the stairs, “is she okay Cheol?” He grumbled sitting down next to him. “I don’t know how to help her.” Scoups said dropping his head in his hands, “what do I do?” He brother patted his back, “just be here for her, give her time to heal.” Scoups nodded. You had seemed more lively the last few days, your job interview had gone well and being offered the job boosted your hope of a future. He was just glad to see some light coming back into your eyes. Kkuma came trotting out of his room and laid in his lap. “Get some rest, check on her tomorrow.” Seungmin said as he walked back downstairs. He played it off but Cheol knew his brother would be up the remainder of the night in case you needed anything. He had taken an instant liking to you, gaining another little sibling though with you being born in 98 he babied you as much as you would let him. Cheol leaned his head back against the door, not wanting to leave in case you started screaming again. He couldn’t get to you but he’d do whatever he could to bring you comfort.
As you woke up, your throat dry and head pounding from the night terrors that constantly plagued you, throwing on some sweats and an oversized t shirt you walked towards the bedroom door, unlocking it and opening only to be greeting with Scoups falling backwards into your legs. “What are you doing?” You asked laughing, as the older man rubbed his head where it hit the floor. Kkuma barking at the noise they made. “Shhh kkuma don’t wake up Hyung.” You whispered reaching down to pet the dogs head. “I’m awake, don’t worry.” A voice yelled back, “and I made breakfast.” Cheol chuckled, “alright let’s go” he said sitting up. You reached a hand down to help him stand, he glanced at your out stretched hand then at your face, you raised an eyebrow as if silently asking if he was going to take it. Gripping your hand tenderly he pulled himself up, not even caring that you didn’t actually help. He squeezed your hand gently and gave a smile before leading you downstairs. His hand still in yours, Seungmin gave a look before placing fried rice down. You dropped Cheols hand to reach for the plate causing the older boy to pout at his brother who chuckled. “Smooth” he whispered as he passed. Cheol reached his foot out to kick him. Laughing, Seungmin followed you into the living room to eat, leaving a pouting Scoups in the kitchen.
After breakfast you head back upstairs, hearing footsteps you look back to see Scoups following you. “Good we can finish our conversation.” You said leaning against your door frame. “What conversation?” he said mirroring your stance. “Why were you asleep outside my door?” You questioned. Scoups was impressed, asking a question boldly was a big improvement for you. While you were clenching your hands to stop them from shaking while waiting for him to answer. “You were screaming, in your sleep. And I’m not going to come into your room but I wanted to be closer if you needed me.” He said quietly. “I was screaming? I thought it was only in the dreams.” You said picking at your nails, “I’m so sorry I woke you up.” Scoups wanted to pull you into a hug, to tell you to never apologize for the trauma you endured but he pressed his body firmly into the door frame, steadying himself. “It’s alright, I just hate that you are plagued with them nightly.” You gave a halfhearted smile, “you can’t fix everything Cheol.” He shrugged, “I can try. Just know me or Seungmin are here if you need us. At anytime, our doors are always open.” Nodding you said a thank you and slipped into your room. You looked at the key hanging beside your bed. Shaking the thoughts away you walked into your bathroom to get ready for the day.
The next few weeks flew by as you got used to the routine of your job and coming home to Cheol and sometimes Seungmin. Depending on his works schedule which changed often. Today after work, you and Cheol were going to the guys dorm to have dinner and you would be lying if you said you weren’t nervous. You had been around them in groups but never all 13 since that first dinner. Sitting in the passenger seat of Scoups car you picked at your nails. “Jeonghans door in the first on the left, if you need a minute.” He mentioned, never taking his eyes off the road. “He won’t mind, or you can stick by me.” His arm rested across the center console, you squeezed him arm, “thank you for always thinking these things out.” He gave you a grin, “DK or Mingyu will want to hug you, if you aren’t comfortable tell them. They are just lovers but will respect your boundaries.” He added as you nodded along. You knew of course, Dokyeom always looked like he was busting at the seams to hug you as soon as he saw you but he never did. Mingyu settling for thumbs up. “I know Cheol they’ve never done anything to make me uncomfortable before.” You chuckled, “maybe a hug would be nice, I haven’t had one in months” Scoups pulled into the parking garage and turned off the car, “respectfully y/n, if those two get a hug before I do I will be inconsolable and pout for days.” You laughed, opening your car door. “You do that anyways Cheol.” His signature pouty lips started to form, “I do not.” You have a pointed stare which had both of you laughing. “The Maknae leader at its finest.” You say as you walked towards the doors, the older man on your heels his lips still in a pout.
You could hear the music as soon as you stepped off the elevator, Cheol guiding you down the hallway, “I forget how loud you all are.” You mummbled, sticking close to him. He smiled, “it’s always been this way.” He threw open the door and was greeted by Hoshi and Seungkwan using the karaoke machine at full volume. “Scoups-ssi, y/n!!” DK yelled as you shut the door, you waved as Scoups pulled him into a hug, while you sat your water down and found Jeonghan curled up on the couch with Minghao and Wonwoo. “Y/n, come sit with us!” Minghao called, plopping down beside Jeonghan you leaned back. “You look better.” He stated, “no offense of course.” He added as you turned towards him. “I feel better, more awake, present I guess.” You said watching the guys try to beat their previous high score. “My bedroom is the first door on the left, bathroom is on the right. If you need a minute alone.” You chuckled, “Cheol said the same thing. Thank you for looking out for me.” He bowed slightly, “y/n come join us!” Dino yelled from the karaoke machine. “You reallly don’t want me too.” You called back shaking your head. “Pleaseeeee” Hoshi begged, “she said no, respect that Soonyong.” Scoups voice rang out from the kitchen. Hoshi said sorry and turned back around, Jeonghan was trying not to laugh beside you, “he’s prickly tonight.” Wonwoo said quietly. “He was fine in the car.” You whispered back before standing up to go find the leader. “Maybe later Hoshi.” You told the energetic man as you walked by making his face light back up.
You walked into the kitchen to Cheol laughing with Joshua, DK and Mingyu. “Hey Y/n!” Joshua called causing Cheol to turn around, “hey Joshua.” You replied leaning against the counter beside their leader. “Are you okay?” He said quietly. “Are you?” You retorted, “Hoshi didn’t deserve for you to snap at him.” Cheols eyes looked towards the living room, “you had said no. There was no need for him to pressure you.” You rolled your eyes laughing, “it’s no different than you pouting when Kkuma chooses to sit with me.” “That was one time, a lapse in judgement by her.” He said jutting his lip out. “I appreciate you stepping in but I don’t want you snapping at your members to do it. I can speak up for myself.” You said patting his back. Scoups leaned back slightly into your hand, “I’m always going to speak up for you, you’re not in this alone anymore y/n.” His eyes locked on yours. You heard a throat clear and both of looked towards the source to find the other three men trying to not stare at you. “How’s living with this one?” Joshua asked. “Good, he’s not this dramatic all the time if you could believe that.” Joshua’s eyes widen as he turned his face towards his friend, “really not the type to be over dramatic. Huh interesting.” You laughed as Scoups glared at Joshua. “Him and Seungmin hyung really are the best.” You added trying to defuse the situation. “You’re 98’ right? Would that makes Scoups-ssi a hyung to you as well?” Mingyu asked, eyes cutting towards his leader. DK trying to hold on his laugher. “I- uh have never even thought of calling you that.” You said looking at Cheol. “No disrespect but just doesn’t fit.” “Please don’t.” Was Scoups response. “Cheollie Oppa has a better ring to it” Joshua said, earning a kick from Scoups. You laughed, “Scoups-ssi Oppa, maybe. We’ll see.” You said as you walked out of the kitchen back towards Jeonghan, who had a smirk on his face. Scoups turned back towards his friends. “Your ears are so red.” Joshua stated poking his ear lobe. “Shut up Shua.” He grumbled watching you walk away. “Just ask her out Cheol.” He said watching his leader out after you. Cheol whips his head to his friend, “no, she’s not ready for that and I will never put that kind of pressure on her.” He said quietly. “What if she’s never ready?” DK asked quietly. “Then I’ll be her friend, as long as she is safe and taken care of. That’s all I want for her.” Scoups replied tearing his eyes from you as you laughed at something Jeonghan had said.
Scoups watched you sing horribly with DK and Hoshi at the karaoke machine, only looking away when Jeonghan sat down beside him. “She looks better. Has she been sleeping any better at night?” Scoups shook his head, “still nightmares but they don’t seem as intense. Her screaming has stopped, more so just threshing around.” Jeonghan glanced at his friend, the way his eyes never left you, “she’s going to be okay Cheol. Y/n’s a fighter and pulled herself out of that situation.” Scoups let out a sigh, “I know, I just want to make sure she has everything she needs to heal in her own time.” Jeonghan nodded, “she does, you and Seungmin hyung have made sure of that.” Your laugh broke through their conversation as the score of the song came up. Scoups face lit up seeing you smile with his brothers. Determined to keep that smile on your face as long as he could.
Walking towards the car hours later, you were humming the song DK and Seungkwan sang, “you looked like you were having fun tonight.” Cheol said as he opened your car door. “I did.” You said smiling, “I like being around them.” Cheol smiled at that, “they all adore you. I’m glad you are comfortable being there.” You leaned back against the seat, “I’ve never felt uncomfortable around them, but tonight being around all of you just brought a lot of peace.” Your eyes closed, you were unaware of the man starring at you with tears in his eyes. “We bring you peace?” He asked, trying to control the emotion in his voice. He pulled out into the road, “You make me feel safe Cheol.” You mumbled as you started falling asleep. “Y/n, if you fall asleep now you know you won’t sleep later.” He said gently. You mumbled something incoherent that made him chuckle. “Come on pretty girl, wake up.” He said with a soft smile, he hesitantly reached a hand out to brush your hair out of your eyes. You turned your head nuzzling against his hand. Cheol could feel his heart pounding in his chest. “Y/n” he whispered not wanting to alarm you. The last thing he wanted was for you to wake up and panic. “Cheollie” you mumbled making his heart race even more. “We’re almost home pretty girl.” He said stroking your cheek gently.
Pulling into the driveway he parked the car, “y/n we’re home.” You opened your eyes, and found Cheol looking at you with so much adoration. You blinked, “sorry, I didn’t mean to fall asleep.” He opened his door as you stretched, coming around to open yours “it’s alright, I know you don’t get a lot of rest.” You shrugged as you followed him up the path, “I slept fine then.” He turned back towards you, “really? That’s good!” Opening the front door, “maybe that’s a sign tonight will be good.” You said walking up the stairs towards your room. “I hope so but I’ll be here if you need me.” He said walking to his door. “I know Cheol, you always are.” You said as you slipped into the room and bid him goodnight. Not letting yourself think about the words you just muttered or the words said in the car. Safe. You finally felt safe. You turned and walked toward the key hanging on your wall, taking another step towards fully healing.
