Today I am on a book tour with @suzyapprovedbooktours in partnership with @getredpr to tell you about the new novel Journey by @zimmermanandy
.
Synopsis from the publisher: What happens when a male version of Eat Pray Love meets The Alchemist?
Paul is a top business executive hoping to be the next CEO of Ascendant―a New York-based tech giant. He neglects everything―his family and himself―in the race to the top. His fast-paced life is interrupted when he travels to Glastonbury, England, to visit friends in a village rich in history and mysticism. Glastonbury represents a complete counterpoint to Paul’s elite corporate day job. It compares to an amusement park, with shops and venues catering to spiritual seekers ranging from would-be witches, goddesses and druids, and burned-out hippies. Like many seekers before him, he is attracted to the energy of a nearby hill―Tor―said to be the mythical Isle of Avalon. Paul meets a beautiful soul reader, Christine, who reads his soul and plants the seeds that turn his life upside down. When he returns to New York, his wife, Mary, is skeptical. Is Paul having a spiritual awakening or is he falling in love with an attractive charlatan? His journey both scares and intrigues her as she watches him struggle to navigate between the business and spiritual worlds. A series of synchronistic events draws Paul closer to Glastonbury and Christine, compelling him and a reluctant Mary to return, unaware that their lives will never be the same.

Book Review…Midnight on the Marne by Sarah Adlakha France, 1918. Nurse Marcelle Marchand has important secrets to keep. Her role as a spy has made her both feared and revered, but it has also put her in extreme danger from the approaching German army. American soldier George Mountcastle feels an instant connection to the young nurse. But in times of war, love must wait. Soon, George and his best friend Philip are fighting for their lives during the Second Battle of the Marne, where George prevents Philip from a daring act that might have won the battle at the cost of his own life. On the run from a victorious Germany, George and Marcelle begin a new life with Philip and Marcelle’s twin sister, Rosalie, in a brutally occupied France. Together, this self-made family navigates oppression, near starvation, and unfathomable loss, finding love and joy in unexpected moments. Years pass, and tragedy strikes, sending George on a course that could change the past and rewrite history. Playing with time is a tricky thing. If he chooses to alter history, he will surely change his own future and perhaps not for the better. Midnight on the Marne is a fast paced story inspired by the true events that occurred at the final battle of World War I. The characters are very well done! The love, perseverance and the bonds that they create with each other are beautiful! I liked that this book had plenty of historical details and facts added into the story! There were so many creative and surprising twists! It's an intriguing and satisfying read! Definitely not your typical historical fiction story! Thank you Suzy Approved Book Tours and Sarah Adlakha for sharing this absolutely amazing story with me! If you were given the opportunity to go back in time and change one thing would you do it? #MidnightontheMarne #SarahAdlakha #books #bookreview #booktour #read #booklover #SuzyApprovedBookTours #historicalfiction #greatread #bookrecommendation #booksta #booknerd #reader #bookstagrammer #forgebooks https://www.instagram.com/p/ChFCkBNqdaB/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

In Robin’s Nest Elizabeth Sumner Wafler ⁣ What would you do if your adult daughter sees you in a rock documentary with the father she never knew? That’s what single mother, Robin Hamilton, has to decide after her daughter, Lark, now grown in her thirties, spots her on the shoulders of a man who turns out to be her father. I oils consider this part family saga, part romance. The story is told in alternating chapters from the view of Robin, Lark, and dad Dean Falconer. We follow the story (moving between past and present)of how Robin and Dean met at an Eagles concert in Washington D.C. back in 1977, fell in love that weekend, and lost touch due to a family tragedy. What will happen when he finds out he has a daughter nearly three decades later? ⁣ This was a touching story and seeing the decisions made by both Robin and Dean (who never knew he had a daughter) were heartbreaking at times, even knowing the reasons behind it. I felt for all the parties involved, especially Dean, who lost the opportunity to see his daughter grow and be a part of her life, and was just sucked into the story to see what would happen. The references to late 70’s music was fun as well. This was a debut story for this author, originally released in 2016 and re-released October 2020, I look forward to reading more by this author. ⁣ I recommend this book at 4 of 5 stars and thank @suzyapprovedbooktours and author @elizabethwaflerwrites for the review copy of this book. Whimsical Wednesday
Tumblr media
Welcome to Whimsical Wednesday my Fellow Book Dragons! Our Gem is perfect for a beautiful Spring evening. It is a deep blue on first look, but this hold it in your claw and it does something I have not seen in years, it changes color with your mood. This is the Gem of Original Mood Ring. Not those knock off things you see in the store, but the very first one, bestowed upon King Solomon centuries ago, right before he began to write Proverbs. This is Gem Maker Dr. David A. Levy’s “Life is a 4 Letter Word: Laughing and Learning Through 40 Life Lessons”.
Dr. Levy is now a Psychologist, but at one time was involved in theater and entertainment. He learned these life lessons from both of these careers. He is now in his 60’s and decided to share them with all of us. Sometimes the lessons are found in humor and sometimes in despair, but there is always something to take away.
He tells the little lessons as stories first, then gives the proverb or adage on a single sheet at the end, so if One wanted, One could take the sheet out and put it where it would be of most use. I liked that about this book. He really made it useable. It is small and compact so it can go anywhere with the reader. The lessons are brief, never more than 2 or 3 pages long. This book is built for a society on the go.
I think my favorite was “The Journey can be more satisfying than the Destination”. I’ve learned that as I have grown older. 555 years old, and I learned that at about age 333. He talks about when he was a child and couldn’t wait to get somewhere, the destination, the “it”, whatever it was just couldn’t come soon enough. But as we grow older, the waiting, the anticipation is fun in and of itself. Of course the fact that this story involved the great Chuck Berry did not hurt. I do love a good Chuck Berry hit, who doesn’t?
So, I do recommend this book, especially if you have been feeling down of late or if you know someone who has. These little bits and pieces of wisdom are not going to solve all your problems or end the drudgeries of mankind, but they definitely might make your life a bit easier.
Until tomorrow, I remain, your humble Book Dragon.. Oh and don’t forget to check out my daily question! The month of April is a 12 item goodie basket! I’ll be revealing another goodie in the basket tomorrow!

So somehow it is already after 4pm here in MD, and all I have done today is bake homemade cinnamon rollin’ buns from Snoop Dogg’s cookbook, and finish reading The First Emma by @camilledimaio__author . I give both the buns and this book 5/5⭐️’s Thank you so much to @suzyapprovedbookreviews for having me on this amazing book tour and for my copy of The first Emma which is out now. If you love historical fiction that is heavily rooted in actual events and facts then this is a must read.
.
Like for instance, because of this book I now know that breweries converted to making malt extract during prohibition under the guise of it being used for home bread baking. All the while the breweries heavily circulated the recipe to use it to make home brewed beer. Besides the wonderful glimpse into history, this book had an amazing romance storyline, and the ongoing intrigue of unbelievable betrayal and murder.
.
Synopsis from the publisher: the true story of Emma Koehler, whose tycoon husband Otto was killed in a crime-of-the-century murder by one of his two mistresses—both also named Emma—and her unlikely rise as CEO of a brewing empire during Prohibition. When a chance to tell her story to a young teetotaler arises, a tale unfolds of love, war, beer, and the power of women.
.
If you love women centered stories, a glimpse into history, want to learn about beer, are in the mood for a sweet romance, or want to follow a murder that will have you humming “Cell Block Tango” from the musical Chicago, then read The First Emma❤️

Book Tour Review……Words We Cannot Say by Sita Romero Labor and delivery nurse Penelope is an expert at her job but a complete mess when it comes to her personal life. After her boyfriend dumps her in favor of saving his marriage, Penelope discovers she’s pregnant. Now Penelope must face motherhood, her greatest fear, or consider the alternatives. Jesenia, a first-generation American, made her mark as a model then quit the business in favor of a nine-to-five and wedded bliss. After three years of fertility treatments and pressure from her family, trying to become a mother is her full-time job. But when her past mistakes threaten her chances, Nia will have to confront her youthful choices and over-involved family’s opinions. If choosing a homebirth and nursing a toddler don’t make Lotus unconventional, growing up in a commune and choosing a polyamorous marriage certainly do. After her grandfather’s unexpected death and the inheritance of his Victorian home, Lotus just wants to run her business, take care of her family, and live in her version of normal. That peace is threatened by her husband’s former lover, the end of his sobriety, and a new love interest, all of which will turn her world upside down. Words We Cannot Say is a beautiful story about life choices, friendship and motherhood! The writing is beautiful! The topics are ones that we don't usually talk about but most of us face as women. The story follows three friends Penelope, Lotus and Nia as they navigate the ups and downs in life. They aren't perfect, they are messy, honest and real. I really liked how the author brought them together but made sure each of them still never lost their individuality. It was heartbreaking at times but uplifting and an amazing read! Book Tour Review………Helping Howard by Sally Schloss Helping Howard explores the fraught lifetime marriage of a straight older man, his younger gay wife & the daughter that survives them. An anti-romantic romance, this book tells the tale of the The Author who awakens Howard into consciousness in order to become her accomplice in figuring out what happens next. Their ongoing dialogue pushes the story forward through quarrelsome, humorous, psychological cliffhangers. Playing with & exposing, the creative process adds another dimension to the narrative as The Author creates a relationship with her main character, which in turn, reflects on who she is. Helping Howard is about people struggling with understanding their own barriers to achieving & sustaining intimacy. It’s a complex story of human longing & unmet desire. Helping Howard is a lovely page turner that is about life, love and everything else that is part of real life. It's the type of book that is easy to read but also powerful and thought provoking and with characters that will stay with you long after the last page. It travels through quite a few years of Howard's life and a few different point of views but it all moves beautifully between each one. I really enjoyed this book. I will definitely be reading this again. The writing is absolutely wonderful and to think this is a debut novel! Benny J. is unlike most children. Benny J. is worried & he doesn’t like Halloween! Will people stare at him? What if they laugh at his costume? Will the parade be too loud? But what Benny J. doesn’t know is that Halloween can also be pretty exciting… if only he gives it a chance!
Will Benny J. be brave enough to join the Halloween parade at school?
Or will he stay at home & not attend at all?

When Robins Appear Densie Webb Genre: family saga, women’s drama Wow, there are just not words to express how powerful this book is. Alternating in chapters between mom, Deborah and daughter Amanda (Mandy), we see the sometimes difficult dynamics between a mother and daughter. having three daughters myself it is so hard to balance what you want for them and what they want for themselves. Add in the additional family trauma going on through this book and just wow. this is something every mother and daughter will relate to. I could see myself in both Deborah and Amanda in the decisions they made and they feelings they had. I warn you that the ending of this book is very difficult but I highly recommend it even with the tears that will come. 5 of 5 stars and many boxes of tissues. Recently widowed Sylvie Andrus moves with her young son, Jason, to a small river town, and discovers she must solve a two-century old mystery to rid herself of the ghost who haunts her. Still grieving, she finds the ghost of her husband, Ned, waiting in her new home to seduce her. Jason warns Sylvie the ghost is evil but, swept up by her yearning for her husband and determined to reveal what happened to Clarinda Braxton, a Revolutionary Era painter who disappeared without a trace in 1794, she delays, putting her son’s life in peril. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Possession is a paranormal mystery that takes place over two time periods, the present and the late 1700s. When we are in the present we are with Sylvie and Jason as Sylvie becomes more and more obsessed with the book she is writing on Clarinda’s disappearance, and we go back in the past to see Clarainda’s life in Riverton and what happened to her and her husband (also missing) and meet her best friend (possibly more...?) Elizabeth. As the story winds back and forth over the chapters until it comes together and we learn the truth about everyone, past and present. This was a fairly quick read at about 250 pages and something you could enjoy in an afternoon. I am not normally one for paranormal stories, ghosts just aren’t my thing, but I did enjoy this book and would recommend it to anyone who likes the genre. ⁣ I give this 3.5 of 5 stars and thank @suzyapprovedbooktours and author Ginny Fite for the review copy of this book. Historical fiction novels can be hit or miss for me, depending on how the author writes it. This one is a hit! It is a slow burn, as are most historical fiction novels, but don’t let this stop you, it is done with a purpose. The author, Joy Jordan-Lake, does all she can to put us back in late 1895 Asheville, North Carolina, at the construction of the Biltmore Estate and she does a wonderful job, making it more than just a fictionalized story about the construction, throwing in scandal and a murder mystery as well. ⁣ Seeing the construction of Biltmore and how the Vanderbilts are buying up the land, some of it belonging to families for generations, greatly upsets her. Not that George Vanderbilt truly likes it himself, in one scene someone asks him if people really have a price to sell land that has been in family’s for generations, and he sadly answers that yes they do. This doesn’t stop him from buying the land and constructing the home. Having visited Biltmore in the past, I can remember the beautiful grounds and opulent mansion and an just imagine what locals may have thought of the Vanderbilt family when they came to town and started scooping up land. What a position to be in, having to choose between land that has been in families for generations and starving. ⁣ If you enjoy historical mysteries and especially ones that are entwined with real characters and places as much as fictionalized ones, you will truly enjoy this book. The appendix at the end where the author explains the “real” and fictional characters and whom they were based on was a fun afterword and a great insight into the authors process. This is my first novel by this author and I am hoping I enjoy the rest just as much as this one. ⁣ Thank you to @suzyapprovedbooktours , Lake Union Press, and author @joyjordanlake_books for the review copy of this book. 5 of 5 stars. Agatha Arch is Afraid of Everything By Kristen Bair ⁣ Agatha is a completely neurotic character (think Eleanor Ophelient or Bernadette) but also completely relatable for the most part. After catching her husband Dax in the shed with the local dog walker and completely destroying said sheet with a hatchet (can you blame her?), Agatha is heartbroken and becomes the talk of not only the local mom’s group on facebook but the talk of the town. Agatha is afraid...of everything especially beans (due to that all too popular horror movie involving a serial killer and fava beans). She is also afraid of catching anthrax from the Antarctica and of the local transient who in her opinion will cause damage/harm to the town). ⁣ But with the help of her therapist (whom she calls Shrinky Dink) and her beloved Bear Gryllis bobble head (that she talks to) Agatha slowly begins to see she can grow and overcome. ⁣ She is quirky and yet still lovable, with her “spy pants” and binocular, even with her her neurosis and heartbreak her love for her boys still comes through. I loved this humor in the horrible situation and seeing Agatha grow as a person. This is one of my top 10 books of the year and something I highly recommend. 5 out of 5 stars! ⁣ Thank you to @suzyapprovedbooktours , @alcovepress , and author @kbairokeeffe for the review copy of this book. #readingismymedicine #coffeedogsbooks #bookblog #bookreviews #bookshark #onceuponabookclubvip #suzyapprovedbooktours #ipreview via @preview.app https://www.instagram.com/p/CITE2kqAY-b/?igshid=37fnr8vud84a
