Isn't it good to know you don't need to treat your board like it's a piece of fine porcelain? p.s. Since we moved to high tech high density fusion back in 2016, we've only EVER had 6 boards returned due to leaks, and most of those just needed the valve the tightening. That's a vanishingly small percentage. At its annual conference on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, the British Rigid Urethane Foam Manufacturers’ Association (BRUFMA) will put future-proofing our buildings in the spotlight in light of our climate change targets with the overarching theme, Regulation or Education? The role of design in future-proofing the UK building stock. The conference will bring together experts in sustainability, design and building standards and will be of interest to those responsible for ensuring our buildings are resilient to future challenges.
The line-up of speakers ready to debate the long-term view on the sustainability of buildings include Dr Stephen Garvin, director BRE Centre for Resilience, Claire Curtis-Thomas, chief executive of the BBA, Dr Howard Porter, chair of the Each Home Counts Implementation Board and CEO of BEAMA, and Lynn Sullivan OBE, co-founding partner of sustainableBYdesign. They will be joined by Will Waller from design and consultancy firm Arcadis, who will open proceedings with an overview of the built environment and the general position of the construction industry on the economy.
The event will also be a platform to discuss the drive towards greater sustainable housing in light of the government’s latest attempt to solve the housing shortage.

Getting this glazing fitted has made lots of lovely space as it's been stashed in a narrow passageway for maybe two years. For the past 2-3 years I've been gradually gathering together materials from which to build a summerhouse in the garden. The only thing I'd not been able to find was time to make a start. Since that's now available in abundance I've no excuse not to get cracking, though "designing as I go along" means nothing's happening that fast. Since many of the garden structures already have names, such as the Coracle Barn, Pottering Shed, the Orangery, etc, I've decided this will be known as the Lockdown Lodge. . . . . . #homebuilding #summerhouse #reclaimedwood #labouroflove #keepsmeentertained #woodworkersofinstagram #lockdownlodge #sustainablebydesign #workinprogress https://www.instagram.com/p/B-yqZkzDhLN/?igshid=ny5z7iv5xwr5

I had a fun project yesterday, and a chance to support my old Primary School in Nettlebed. The sheltered space is the school's outdoor classroom, but open sides mean it's easy for children to get distracted, and when windy it's not a nice place to sit. Organised by their Forest School leader Emily we had locally coppiced hazel on hand to weave a wattle screen, which makes the space less exposed to the elements and a feel much more secluded. It's been a fair while since I had a chance to work with green round wood rather than seasoned sawn timber. But having been reminded how much fun it is I'm keen to do more! . . . . . #coppicecrafts #greenwoodworking #coppicing #hazel #hazelweaving #wattlefence #locallysourced #sustainablysourced #sustainablebydesign #handmade #traditionalcraft #growninthechilterns #volunteering #nettlebedschool #outdoorclassroom #forestschools https://www.instagram.com/p/B0IUHN0gw-X/?igshid=1fswv6xgn1atu

Today I've been out collecting ash and sycamore trunks for future wood working, that are now waiting to be slabbed up at Nettlebed sawmill. Future-proofing is on the agenda
The British Rigid Urethane Foam Manufacturers’ Association (BRUFMA) will put future proofing our buildings in the spotlight at its second annual conference, taking place at the Building Centre in London on Wednesday 28 June 2017.
The annual event has an overarching theme: Regulation or Education? The role of design in future proofing the UK building stock, and will provide valuable insight and debate into the key issues that affect the industry from some of the leading players in sustainability, design and building standards.
The line-up of speakers at the conference includes Dr Stephen Garvin, director of BRE Centre for Resilience, Claire Curtis-Thomas, chief executive of the BBA, Dr Howard Porter, chair of the Each Home Counts Implementation Board and CEO of BEAMA, and Lynn Sullivan OBE, co-founding partner of sustainableBYdesign. They will be joined by, amongst others, Will Waller from leading design and consultancy firm Arcadis who will provide an overview of the built environment.
Simon Storer, chief executive of BRUFMA, said: “This year’s annual conference will provide a unique and exciting opportunity for anyone engaged in future proofing new and existing buildings, including architects, specifiers and local authorities as well as BRUFMA members. The event is also the perfect platform to discuss the drive towards greater sustainable housing in light of the Government’s latest attempt to solve our housing shortage.”
Over the years BRUFMA has built up its credibility within the industry and across government and non-governmental organisations involved in legislative areas affecting the production and use of PIR/PUR insulation products.
BRUFMA is the representative body for the PIR and PUR Insulation Industry in the UK. Its membership comprises all of the major companies in the industry, including manufacturers of finished products, suppliers of the various raw materials and associated services. The industry supplies more than half of all insulation products in the UK and is the largest sector by value.
