I wrapped some stocking stuffers for my parental and I had gotten some brown paper to wrap them in cuz I’m trying to be a bit more sustainable and make my own(also im a cottagecore/hobbit/stardew valley gorlie and im trying to romanticize my life) and I had gotten some stamps and ink pads. Suffice to say the ink I picked wasn’t the best for this paper so I decided to use paint instead
Dude
It was fun but it took FOREVER
Like, fuck man. It was really fun and I’m glad I did it cuz its a fun little christmas activity while you watch something but just be prepared

On a scale of 1 to ecofriendly...this is pretty high up - just depends on what it comes packaged in, because packaging matters!

I've had this skirt since 2012 and never wore it with green, which is a crime. It's probably because I thought it was too Christmas-y, so now is the perfect time to do it.
Another medical appointment outfit because, apparently, that's the only reason I go out.
Outfit rundown Skirt: second-hand Mary Magdalene Cardigan: second-hand Fint Blouse: thrifted Shoes: old Fluevog Bag: second-hand Axes Femme Hat: vintage Bow: from a MM coat Felt cat brooch: Design Festa (forgot the artist) Vintage spoon/flower vase brooch: local artist here (also didn't take their card Earrings: thrifted

Happy holidays from Portia

We get our tree from a hill my mother-in-law lives on, and plan which trees to cut to promote resource distribution for the better trees way in advance. Trees that don't have any fire retardants or synthetic fragrances are okay for rabbits to nibble on in small quantities, but I'd still recommend keeping an eye out so no wires or ornaments get nibbled. (She DID completely ignore the pinecone under there for her in order to nibble on my wrapped graphic novel.)
Also, tinsel is trash imo.

hi everyone!! i know i don't usually post articles i've written on here (especially because they're often not fandom related), but with the holiday season just around the corner i wanted to share my latest article about gift wrap alternatives!
gift wrap can be a super wasteful product that gets used only once and often is not recyclable from being mixed materials (the paper is often laminated in plastic, and sometimes you'll get metallic wrapping paper too).
i'm not sharing this in hopes to gain traffic, but more to spread awareness and give people some other ideas when it comes to buying gift wrap!! please feel free to share, save for later, and tell your friends <33

White eco influencers on the internet will look you in the eye and say do not ever use giftbags and wrapping paper 😡😡 wrap your presents in some nasty ass old towels🤗🤗 people will not like that but that's the only way that doesnt hurt the planet 😇 meanwhile actual normal ppl will go like oh this gift bag? We've been using it every birthday since 2005, it still looks good. I'm buying new wrapping paper this year cause I have no pieces left from the last one I bought 4 years ago

Sustainable Christmas tree
If you have a little bit of outdoor space then you can always do your own potted tree that you bring in for Christmas and take back out for the rest of the year. Here is our little London balcony one. Bought for my (then) boyfriend in 2021, repotted in June this year, brought inside today for her 3rd Christmas.
She is a blue spruce if I remember correctly.
Tips for success: start with a small tree. This one was bought as a 30cm tree and is now about 45cm
Don't keep in direct sun for most of the day in summer; it will get very stressed. Remember that in a forest setting saplings don't actually get that much light. If you want it to grow as fast as possible you could maximise sun but you'll need to water and feed extensively. She was looking a little worse for wear after last years hot hot summer but has made a good recovery and put out fresh green growth.
Keep away from heat sources indoors- our flat average temp in Dec is about 17c and she is not kept next to the radiator.
Letting weeds grow in the pot (or planting annuals) underneath will help shade the soil in summer.

“In an effort to combat flooding, a Yorkshire woman realized that thousands of wasted Christmas trees every year could be used as natural flood protection, and started a unique business to do just that.
The Rooted Christmas tree rental delivers a potted Christmas fir, pine, or spruce to a family for the festive season. When the lights are taken down, the company then collects their rentals and replants them to enjoy another growing season.
When the trees get too tall, they are placed on the slopes of the nearby Calder Valley as natural floodwater breaks.
The Sunday Times reports that the towns of Mytholmroyd and Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire have been inundated by serious floods 4 times in the last 15 years, with the most-recent one causing $180 million (£150 million) in damages.
Rooted founder Sara Tomkins established a Christmas tree plantation in the spring of 2020 with 400 trees. Dozens of those original 400 have now become too large for the average living room, and have been hauled off for planting in the upper parts of the Calder Valley to stop floodwaters running down into the two towns below.
What started as a sustainability project turned into a flourishing commercial enterprise. When residents learned how their Christmas tree purchases could be used to protect their towns from floods and reduce waste from rotting trees, all of Tomkins’ original trees were rented out.
According to Tomkins, people pretend the trees are members of the family, and like to rent the same one over and over again to “watch them grow up with their kids...”
Tomkins feels that demand might be 3x her current supply, but as a music venue director, she does the job only in her off hours.
“I do this in my spare time so I don’t have the capacity or the physical space to make it any bigger,” she told The Times. “But the demand being there is such a positive thing because, if we can reduce how many Christmas trees we cut down, that is a massive environmental win.” -via Good News Network, 1/11/23
