Man, I really miss when Mihoyo would actually let characters be in the wrong. It’s just kinda weird to me how a game that quotes philosophy as much as Honkai does also refuses to explore moral complexities and contradictions.

Another sort of “they did it a few times but kind of morphed into one of their Main Things in the public mind” is Bugs saying nimrod—he only does so once in the original run, and not against Elmer Fudd. Daffy also used it before him in the same tone!

And jokes about Porky’s personality being just his stutter when often other characters never rly pointed it out – most jokes abt it were often just him swapping out one word for another, and even those slowly died out in the 50’s.

They also didn’t rly do the duck season/rabbit season bit That often. Maybe similar bits, but rarely that bit specifically. Of the 13 Bugs/Daffy shorts, only the three hunting trilogy cartoons come to mind (though they’re more popular than the others, mind.)

yeah!! it really is fascinating how many instances of mass misconceptions/mandela effects there are. I guess due to iconic aspects of the same source getting easily mixed up in people's memories of it.

its definition getting completely altered in reality from such a minor source is wild, also. tho probably helped along by the fact that the sound of "nimrod" is similar to other pre-existing insults like "nincompoop" or "numbskull", and coupled with the tone/context most people heard it in let it build association with that over the actual meaning.

it's also neat to see how the back-and-forth-switch gag didn't even originate with the duck season/rabbit season shorts, with it first appearing in I Think "baseball bugs", right? and even its other uses pre-dating those by a good few years.

god, 13 shorts over the decades of their existence in the golden age really does sound small in the grand scheme of things, too. especially when compared to porky and daffy's what, 30? yeah the massive popularity and accessibility of their appearances (those 3 shorts were definitely re-packaged/syndicated a Lot between the '80s-'00s iirc) overshadows a lot of the series.
