i will always maintain the belief that the bbc merlin writers forgot that they had an ending to write. i swear they fucked around, got to like episode 10, went 'oh shit we actually have to write a conclusion' and threw some ideas at a wall in hopes that it would form a cohesive ending.

like, despite some choices, overall the show was written well(ish). sure 90% of the characters were criminally underdeveloped, but i think the plot was actually kinda good. it all went to shit in season 5. if they had actually planned what was going to happen, they wouldn't have left so many unfinished storylines and plotholes. in this essay i will

#at the end of the day the writers made their decisions and we got what we got #but im left with so many questions #why would they constantly talk about how arthur would unite the lands of albion and bring magic back to the kingdom #but then have him die before we got to see that #sure it was implied that gwen repealed the magic ban and everything was hunky dory #but after 5 seasons of saying that merlin would see the day magic came back why would they not show us that??#imho it would have been better if the magic reveal happened maybe in episode 10 or 11 #so that we could have seen the peaceful times that had been promised for 5 SEASONS #arthurs death was inevitable bc destiny blah blah #and I'd be fine with it if we at least got to see some of the good before the bad #his death would have been bittersweet and we'd still get the message about destiny and whatnot #but whatever #its been said a million times but I'LL SAY IT AGAIN BC IM STILL MAD OVER THE ENDING #bbc merlin #merlin #merlin meta #i guess?#the diamond of the day
