Seems that one of my concerns as a local ⸺ that being the focus of global/national media coverage has been primarily on the Pacific Palisades fire ⸺ is unfortunately very valid. So I am deviating once more from my fandom posts to bring just a few more crumbs of awareness to the Eaton fire, which continues to ravage Altadena, a beautiful and historically Black community overlooking Pasadena.

When I previously stated I've found national news coverage lacking, I meant exactly this; online searches about the fires in and around Los Angeles bring up so many headlines concerning celebrity homes and other tabloid crap like that. Photos of charred luxury mid-century mansions and the burning Hollywood sign (fake btw) get more clicks, I'd wager, but I implore you all to look beyond that and focus on the communities and victims who have and will continue to be impacted the most.

If you have the ability to donate or just want to spread more awareness, a GoFundMe directory for displaced Black families is available. The list was compiled and continues to be updated by AFROPUNK, or @/afropunk on socials.

I've said it before but I really really really need everyone in the disco elysium fandom to like. look at themselves for a moment and make sure they're not being insanely ridiculously dehumanizing to addicts because I see it way too often. I'm not talking about saying that harry is a bad person, depending on your choices in your playthrough he could absolutely be described as a very shitty person, I'm talking about this weird insistence that harry as an addict/recovering addict/whatever doesn't deserve love or friendship or community because he's just That Bad and he will ALWAYS be That Bad and inflicting him on someone else would be cruel and unusual punishment. like... actually fuck each and every last one of you who says shit like that I'm not joking.

happy to announce i’ve finally lost it and spent a considerable amount of time making a dragon age inquisition mod that lets your inquisitor use they/them pronouns. if there’s anyone out there besides me who wants to use it, here it is on nexus.

update: as of 3.05 (may 3rd), the mod has been uploaded to nexus. see download link above for any future updates.

this is a mod for frosty mod manager 1.0.6.1. you MUST install the bioware localization plugin for it to work, otherwise the game won’t start. on fmm 1.0.6.2, the plugin is already built in, so you don’t need to worry;

this mod is a simple overhaul of the game’s base text; no changes were made to the actual voice lines. this mod also does not affect default romance flags (just like in vanilla game, you can only romance sera with a "female" inquisitor (or dorian with "male"), but the mod should, hypothetically, be compatible with other mods that edit romance flags);

you can install it at any point of the game. starting a new playthrough is not necessary;

works for all races and with all available dlcs;

along with the pronouns change, this mod changes all gendered words used to refer to the inquisitor to be gender neutral, i.e man / woman have been replaced with person or contextual variants. my lord / my lady and other similar titles have been replaced with messere (on the basis of this reddit thread);

some of the dialogue could've been mistakenly changed, since context was not always easy to parse. if you try this mod out, i’d greatly appreciate any help with pointing out my mistakes (blackwall’s romance in particular has given me the most trouble); additionally, i might have missed some lines in the codexes, since i skimmed through them very briefly.

i’ve no previous modding experience, so i went with the easiest option and, like i mentioned above, brute forced it and made a complete overhaul of the base game text as opposed to a pickable option i’d like it to be. ideally i’d love for this mod to be bundled together with this other one that switches pc pronouns (which was a partial inspiration for this mod). if anyone here has any knowledge on whether this is something that could be done, please hmu.

also, since in order to make this mod i had to read through the entire game text (it was torturous. not gonna lie) i collected some of my personal favorite bits and pieces along the way. if anyone’s curious, you can look at them here. there’s surprisingly many developers’ notes in there.

The fact that she sums up being Black as cornrows and Motown offers great insight into why in Harry Potter she gave her only Irish character the name Seamus Finnegan, the most notable Black character Kingsley Shacklebolt and the only East Asian character Cho Chang. Part of me wants to engage with this line of thinking and explain why race and gender are structurally very different despite both being social constructs and then I remember that none of these people actually care about that shit.

Finished making this basket today, out of a bunch of discarded lumber-pallet-straps I dumpster-dived from construction sites! I'm gonna fill it with dirt and try growing hot peppers out of it later this year.

Tiny test knit on size US 8/5mm needles. The cast on was the first part I spun from unprepared cotton, and then you can see it gets increasingly finer as my prep improved. Mostly I did this test to be able to see that progression, but I was also curious how well I'd be able to knit with what is essentially unplied thread.

Answer...bit of a pain. It snapped twice as I was binding off (I know the bind off edge looks so bad--this is why. Also it was hard.) which was not a good sign but also my needle kept just falling out of my work. Definitely need wooden needles if I try this again for a better grip.

I think it's not the right choice though. If I wove with it it would be much more durable then and would create a better fabric.

Issue is, I certainly would not put the weight of warping on this thread. So I will try plying the remains (to see if it's even doable or if it will snap and/or tangle) and then maybe try weaving that. As a 2 ply it should be good enough--it's already pretty strong, it's just snapping at the slubs, which currently seem unavoidable until I am much better at making punis.
