(that last anon again) Thank you so much for the recommendations! I'm truly in awe of how well read you are and how thorough your answers are. May I ask if you have any fiction recommendations with the same themes?
(following on from this ask)
hi!! you're very kind, apologies for taking so long to get back to you! i've been snowed under with assignments+readings for uni and the slowly encroaching exam crawl... but yes absolutely♡
- The Story of O, Anne Desclos - The Bloody Chamber ; The Infernal Desire Machines of Doctor Hoffman ; The Passion of New Eve, Angela Carter -> Angela appreciated and referenced symbolist artists like Rops:

Woman Putting on Costume, 1848-1898, Rops; The Bloody Chamber, Angela Carter; excerpt from Romana Byrne's Aesthetic Sexuality: A Literary History of Sadomasochism (mentioned in previous ask) which seems esp pertinent given the Bloody Chamber is a Bluebeard tale (but which is actually referencing Story of O)
I also mentioned Giger in the previous ask, and Hans Bellmer was an influence of his whom I enjoy viewing alongside Rops...
Tumblr media
this is Sans Titre (Jeune Fille et la Mort), 1963
- The Torture Garden, Octave Mirbeau
Tumblr media
(Le Jardin des supplices (1976) dir. Christian Gion; screencap from estateofinsanity)

ive heard a lot of conflicting opinions about supervert but i do appreciate him for running a website dedicated to different translations of les fleurs du mal its been really helpful on my current heroes journey. anyway its kind of crazy to me that some translators dont make their versions rhyme... so many sonnets in here, whats even left of them if you take away the rhyme scheme. you just killed that thang. (<- hope everyone is enjoying my incredibly enlightened literary analysis). they can be easier to digest but at what cost!

I am sick so I am in desperate need of something to do! Do you have any book recommendations? What have you been reading lately?
Oh nooo! I hope you feel better soon <3 Make sure to drink lots of water and eat something even if you don't feel like it?
I've been considering getting the PDF of Necrophilia Variations by Supervert, because I saw that Hysterical Literature video with Stoya. I've also been rereading my copy of Beowulf. <3
For fanfic I've read recently:
Generous by @softest-punk
treat me like a slut, by Dream Murphy, PhD by @beatnikfreakiswriting
All I Have to Do is Dream~ by @violetequus8
There's a theme running through all of these see if you can guess it loool

labelling myself as an exophile is fitting, I guess I like it because it works, but I constantly wish there was a better ‘label’ that wasn’t so focused on sexual intrigue as a whole.
exophilia is "a fetishism whose object is the sexuality of extraterrestrials." in other words, it is a desire for extraterrestrial, alien, or other non-human life forms. the term was coined by the writer supervert in the 2001 book extraterrestrial sex fetish.
I’m not sure how to explain it all that well, but I use exophile in a way that nods towards romance and love, not just sex or an object of such. it has never been a focus of lust or drool for me and the fact that there’s no way to describe myself other than pointing people in the direction of a sexual definition is…rather frustrating - heartbreaking, even, because no one truly knows what I mean/how I feel about this topic.
I’m stuck in a painful cycle where I crave the warm attention and affection of beings that cannot be and that can get to me sometimes. it can make me upset, knowing that I can’t pour my love out fully and embrace what I’ve always felt in my heart. I need a label with a definition more fitting to the overwhelming pull towards nonhuman beings in this way.
is this too niche of a subject to voice? I’m not sure, I simply needed to let it out somewhere. maybe there is a better label for me out there that I just haven’t found yet!

Also the Bjork stalker meme kinda fucked me up because like. I wouldn't say that I consider it something that makes me emotional, and obviously y'know stalking is not cool.
But like just the act of shooting yourself and having your brain matter splatter onto a canvas with "The Best of Me" written on it is an incredible piece of performance art imo. But then he fucked that up even because he didn't get the distance right and like barely any of it actually reached the canvas? I don't know. I think any art that results in the artist's death is inherently more powerful than a piece of art that didn't.
It reminds me of this quote from Necrophiliac Variations by Supervert. "I looked at the headline: “The Devil Made Him Do It.“  It was an opinion piece about the German composer Karlheinz Stockhausen and the "disjointed” but “grotesque” remarks he had made at a press conference.  Lamenting the relative impotence of the arts in comparison to terrorism, Stockhausen had called the attacks “the greatest work of art that is possible in the whole cosmos."  I guess he thought of it as a Wagnerian spectacle, an opera of airplanes and towers.  "Five thousand people are dispatched into eternity, in a single moment,” he said.  “I couldn’t do that.  In comparison with that, we’re nothing as composers.”"
The whole situation is very sad but also very funny in a way.
