I think part of the reason I connect so deeply to Castiel is because of his persistent failures (sounds edgy but bare with me). He is an unfeeling angel of the lord who fails in his mission countless times over, siding with the Winchesters or even just his own judgement.

he then attempts to save heaven, over and over again, attempts to give them free will AND attempts to become the new god and fails at both, finding them to be impossible tasks that change him for the worse.

He then tries to separate himself from it, to become nothing of importance. he wants to raise bees and step outside of conflict, he believes it is for the better. and yet he is drawn back in, he cannot leave the world to suffer without stepping in.

he tries to be human, against his will but he tires. He is homeless, washes his clothes in launderettes in his underwear and sleeps on abandoned buses. He makes a poor human, and does not stay one for long.

my point is, Castiel's story feels like the least liner of them all. He rises and falls so many times that it can sometimes feel like he is in a constant state of regret. regret for what he has done, what he cannot do, what he must do. He is both pitiful and powerful, and he is always riddled with regret.

the conflict that Castiel consistently feels in the series (although, I am currently only on season 12) is one that resonates with me deeply. The struggle of morality and power, of wanting to do good but not always knowing what that means. That's what I connect to in Castiel.

Supernatural season 12 , arguably the worst season (didn't watch anything past it) because they killed of Crowley via suicide. They completely destroyed his character, didn't Let Mark Sheppard say Crowley's last like that he wrote himself and they claimed that they didn't know what to do with his character anymore.

I cried my heart out. He was the reason I got into Supernatural, the reason I joined Tumblr and started to Role-play . He is the reason I found my partner of 6 years.

This 1 single act of killing of a character set my brain in a frenzy of studying writing, story telling and how to handle a character development. Because of how honestyly disrespectful it was to a character that I loved so dearly.

If he is death had some meaning and weight and they didn't destroy what was left of him he humiliating the character. I might forgive it. But they didn't. It was a needless and God awful written finale.

I stopped watching Supernatural after that. As much as it broke my heart I could no longer enjoy this show. Esspcially getting rid of arguably it's most complex and mysterious character.

Im curious.

Supernatural season 12 episode 23

I liked the MOL you guys are just mean it was solid attempt at bringing the stakes back down to be able to build back up again after the literal god and his sister. They’re just people, humans, and you can kill them absolutely it would be easy but it bothers their moral code and threatens what they hold dear to them so they can still get up in the morning and not kill themselves with guilt for what they do. What makes Ketch any better than the vampire OTW when he’s following kids into the bathroom to kill them while no one looks because she can move things with her mind? Nothing makes it better, but they recognise him as human and then struggle with it, they don’t start actively trying to hurt him until the stakes are personal because he’s assaulting their mom. Of course this is all undone by the season end when Sam is presented with this obvious moral dilemma in plain text incase the audience missed it when the vampire alpha presses him over what’s good and what’s evil and then he sided with the MOL and obliterated the vampires… But it had a lot more heart than whatever the hell lucifer was doing.

Sam Winchester is such an interesting character like wdym you didn't tell your family you were hallucinating Lucifer and getting tortured because you "had bigger fish to fry" had "more important things going on" HELLO??

and he legit never talks about the true extent of what happened until he briefly mentions smth to Rowena in like S12?? S13?? S14??, to make HER feel better bc Lucifer traumatized her too. (Not for 200 years but still. Yikes.)
