my idea of what an animated reboot of Supernatural would look like It was so much fun to work on this character design project in my last semester at school. I wanted a "Batman The Animated Series" look After designing Sam and Dean, I designed some iconic monsters. We have Garth the Werewolf, Bloody Mary, the Hookman, and (my personal favorite) ACTUAL DRAGONS. the dragon are meant to look like alligators. I imagine them living in the sewers, sparking the urban legend that alligators live there. I wanted them to be very sexual dimorphic- the male is much smaller and travels the sewers to hunt, while the much larger female stay in the nest to take care of the young

Damage Control - 1x07 Hookman
Tumblr media
Dean knows that, when Sam’s not talking, something is up. It can’t just be the pain from his wound, although the slash below his elbow had looked nasty and the way Sam is trying to keep his bandaged arm elevated tells Dean that it’s hurting him. His little brother is quiet in the passenger seat, too quiet, staring straight ahead from eyes that look like thunderclouds.
“Lori is a nice girl,” Dean throws him a bone. “We could still turn around and stay for a couple more days. You could spend some time together while you heal up. You can’t hunt with that arm anyway.”
Sam’s gaze narrows. “I told you, Dean, no! I don’t want to go back. Can you leave it alone already?”
Normally, Dean would. Hell, he’s an expert at not talking about things. At shoving down what hurts and keeping it locked up until he can pretend that it hurts no more. But Sam’s different. While Dean can hold himself together with strength, duct tape, whiskey and a whole shitload of denial, Sam can’t. He’s not built to corral his pain and keep it pent up. In Sam, it will pressure-cook until he breaks apart at the seams.
“No, I can’t leave it alone,” Dean says firmly. “Because I think I know what this is about, and it’s not about Lori.”
“Dean
!” Sam flashes him a warning glare, but Dean ignores it.
Rip the band-aid off.
“It’s about Jess,” he says. “You still think it’s your fault that she died.”
Sam casts his eyes down, simmering. “Because it is.”
Dean slaps the steering wheel. He’d meant to stay calm, but he can’t. “You’ve gotta snap out of this, dude! It’s– how could it have been your fault? How?!”
“If she hadn’t been my girlfriend, she’d still be alive,” Sam answers. He cradles his arm tighter to his chest.
Dean sighs in frustration. “You didn’t put her on that ceiling! You didn’t burn her!”
“No. But the same thing that killed Mom did. The same thing that came into my nursery when I was six months old. It’s connected to me, Dean! And it’s killing the ones I love.”
The Impala swerves a little when Dean jerks around and stares at his brother. “Is that what you believe? Why you didn’t hook up with Lori? You think you’re Doomsday Boy?”
The way Sam looks back at him - defiant, in pain - tells Dean that he’s hit the nail on the head. And, what’s worse - Dean gets it. If their roles were reversed, if Dean had been the baby in that crib staring up at his burning mother, and then, years later, at his girlfriend turning to ash above him, her blood dripping onto his face
he would have felt responsible, too. Terribly, erroneously responsible.
Protective instincts kicking in, everything in Dean screams at him to take that weight off his brother’s shoulders. Because he knows Sammy can’t carry it.
Dean pulls the Impala over to the side of the road and kills the engine. He waits until Sam looks at him and holds his gaze.
“You didn’t cause this, Sammy,” Dean says, using his big brother voice and sounding as solid as he possibly can. “Mom’s death isn’t your fault. Jessica’s death isn’t your fault. And Lori was in danger because of the Hookman, and not because of you. You’re not cursed, Sam! You’re not killing people, you’re saving them! And you gotta believe that, or it’ll eat you alive.”
Sam huffs. “Come on! Wasn’t it you who told me I couldn’t go back to Stanford? That I should cut all ties to my friends? That they wouldn’t understand and I’d only put them in danger?”
“Yes, but
” Dean struggles a little to wiggle out of that one. “I was talking about relationships, Sam. Long-term ones. With people who will never understand the kind of life we live. I wasn’t talking about hooking up with a girl every once in a while.” He lightly slaps Sam’s thigh. “You’re allowed to have a little fun. Fuck it - you need some fun!”
His words fall on deaf ears. Sam turns away from Dean with a wince and stares through the windshield, jaw pushing forward.
“I’m not like you, Dean,” he says, acidic. “I don’t get over things by banging some scuzzy waitress and drowning myself in whiskey.”
Offended, Dean bristles, and his first instinct is to clock Sam one. But he hears the grief in his brother’s voice, and, as different as they are, he recognizes the same toxic coping mechanism that he so often uses - provocation. It’s easier to start a fight than to admit being a wreck. Sam would rather take a punch right now than accept what he really needs and what none of the Winchester brothers ever learned to allow themselves  - physical comfort and a good, ugly cry. They may be different. But they’re both John Winchester’s sons.
“You could always try,” Dean says, his own emotions reined in, shrugging laconically. “Doesn’t have to be a waitress and booze. You could do a Stanford girl with salad and sparkling water
” He pulls his mouth into an intentional smirk.
Sam turns his face back to him and looks at Dean from underneath exasperated eyebrows, but his anger’s visibly deflating. “Dude, you’re impossible.”
Dean grins proudly. Humor - another patented Winchester way of dealing with the crap of this world.
“And you’re still bleeding.” He points at the bandage on Sam’s arm that’s slowly turning red. “Hang on.”
Not waiting for Sam to protest, he quickly gets out of the car and fetches the first aid kit from the trunk. When he’s back, Sam rolls his eyes, but he lets Dean take his arm and unwrap the stained gauze. The wound underneath is still oozing.
“Should’ve let them take you to the ER and stitch it up properly,” Dean comments, displeased. Since Sam had refused the trip to the hospital, the EMTs had only been able to patch him up with steri-strips - a far-from-perfect solution that would take longer to heal and definitely leave a scar.
“And wait for someone to recognize your mugshot?” Sam retorts. “You’re still wanted for murder, Dean!”
Right. That. They’d been keeping a low profile since the shapeshifter had killed one of his victims wearing Dean’s face, and although Dean himself tends to be a little cavalier about it, Sam’s right. Even with their well-faked IDs and credit cards, they still need to be careful.
“Besides,” Sam adds woefully. “We’re a little low on funds. The hospital would’ve billed us a fortune, and I’m not in the mood to sleep in the car tonight.”
“I could stitch you up?” Dean offers, inspecting Sam’s arm with a critical eye.
Sam takes a look. “Nah. It’s not that bad. Just wrap it tightly. It’ll stop.”
Expertly, Dean cleans the wound around the steri-strips - with actual disinfectant this time instead of whiskey - and uses a copious amount of gauze to rewrap the whole affair. Sam grimaces but doesn’t make a single sound. Textbook Winchester.
Only when Dean grabs a scarf and fashions a sling out of it does Sam launch into protest. “Oh, come on, Dean, that’s not necessary! I’m not an invalid!”
Dean squares his shoulders. “This is not a debate! I won’t have you bleeding on the upholstery. Suck it up, dude! Compression. Elevation. You’re wearing that sling!”
Either Dean has exuded sufficient authority or Sam is in enough discomfort to surrender without a fight. With another eye roll and an indignant huff, Sam lets Dean tie the scarf around his neck and settle his injured arm in it.
“There,” Dean says, content with his nursing skills. “Comfortable?”
Sam’s responsive grunt remains open to interpretation. But he swings his legs back into the Impala and pulls the door shut. Dean stores the first aid kit back in the trunk. Finally back behind the steering wheel, he pulls a pill bottle from his jacket and opens it to pop two tablets into his palm.
“Here, take these,” he instructs, offering them to Sam.
“What are they?” Sam squints dubiously.
“They’re shut-up-and-take-em pills. Doctor’s orders.”
The fact that Sam only hesitates for a few seconds before grabbing the pills and dry-swallowing them tells Dean that he actually needs them. And Sam looks beat, his forehead lined with pain, shadows under his deep-set eyes.
He’ll be at peace in a minute. Dean gave him the Good Stuff - painkillers of the prescription kind that he didn’t use up after his last hospital stay. They’ll knock Sam out for a couple of hours and give him the rest and the oblivion the kid needs.
And indeed - twenty minutes later, back on the road, a Bob Seger song softly filling the car, Dean sees Sam’s eyes drift close and his Sasquatch body relaxes into the seat. Dean pulls over to rearrange his brother’s head to a more comfortable position against the side window so he doesn’t wake up with a kink in his neck. Sam doesn’t react at all, out for the count and breathing deeply. The bandage on his arm has remained pristine.
Good.
Dean nods to himself, a small smile tugging on his lips. In spite of his long, lanky body, Sam looks like a little boy in his sleep. His messy bangs are sticking up against the window, his mouth is forming a slight pout, and he looks entirely boneless. With his arm in that sling, Dean feels reminded of that time long ago, when Sam was five and had jumped off a shed pretending to be Batman, ending up with a broken arm.
Of course, Dean had taken the heat for that. His father had been furious, taking nine-year-old Dean’s head off for letting his little brother get hurt on his watch. (Dean himself had jumped off that shed first, in a Superman costume, and hidden his own scraped knee and sprained wrist well.) He remembers his father’s wrath, his own feelings of guilt and his fear for Sam. But he also remembers how brave Sammy had been when Dean had ridden him to the hospital on the handlebars of his bike, and he remembers Sam’s pride when walking out of the ER with a shiny new cast on his arm, allowing Dean to be the first to sign it.
Looking at his baby brother now, knocked out in the passenger seat, Dean wishes it would be that simple again - slap a bandage on and everything would be alright again. But things had changed. As they’d grown up, the world had only become scarier, the monsters more dangerous, and he couldn’t protect Sammy from harm far more serious than a broken bone. All he could do was try and be there when it hurt.
Dean shrugs out of his jacket and spreads it over Sam’s sleeping form. Then he gently eases the Impala back onto the highway and, music turned down to a soft background murmur, he fixes his eyes back on the road.

I finished my S1 rewatch of supernatural and I have some disorganised thoughts to share
I had forgotten how young they looked, I'm currently older than sam and almost the same age as dean and it's unreal to me
S1 is definitely one of the scariest seasons, there were some bangers that I remembered with startling clarity because they actually scared me so much ("dead in the water", "hookman")
the racist truck episode still has one of the best monologues given by a secondary character ever, in the history of the entire show
the pilot was actually great
man, this shit was problematic. I didn't see it on my first watch because I was young and ignorant of many things: ep2 was racist but decently written, "bugs" was racist and also just awful
supernatural in a nutshell: the worst episode ever ("bugs") followed by one of the best episodes in the show ("home")
FUCK JOHN WINCHESTER I HATE YOU SO MUCH jeffrey dean morgan is a fantastic actor
I am,,, uncomfortable with how much of myself I see in dean, it's actually kind of insane
"faith" made me very sad, but dean in a hoodie? kinda hot
BOBBY!!!!!!!!!
dean's voice breaking as he's almost dying? fucking kill me now, it made me cry!
dean realising john winchester is possessed because the demon was nice to him? wild shit, jw go to therapy challenge
And now... onto season 2

Supernatural- American Folklore (Urban Legends)
Urban legends s a genre of folklore concerning stories about an unusual (usually scary) or humorous event that many people believe to be true but largely are not. These legends can be entertaining but often concern mysterious peril or troubling events, such as disappearances and strange objects or entities.
Bloody Mary, The Woman In White, The Hookman, Candyman. These are all folk tales. Scary stories to tell in the dark. But sometimes, they become real. If you repeat them enough. Or if you tell them in the place where it all become. They stop being cautionary tales and they become hauntings. Then it's up to people like us to put them to bed. Afterall, it's all Tall tales.....

Supernatural S01E09 Home
the episode that sets everything in motion
Sam's nightmare/vision. It all starts with his nursery
Sam's tree sketch is so good! And the fact that he wears t shirts!! Aww baby
Dean freaking out over Sam's visions
Lol Dean, why are you shocked to learn that Sam didn't know you carried him to the front door? He was 6 months old and It's not like you or John believed in sharing anything with him, did ya?
Early season horror cues were so on point: the cymbal monkey toy going off on its own, furniture sliding, music cues, miss this
Missouri being soft to Sam but roasting Dean throughout and I love how Dean is taken aback. I bet he's never had people treating him like that đŸ€ŁđŸ€Ł
Sam getting choked by the lamp chord đŸ”„đŸ”„đŸ”„ (we know I'm weird.. moving on)
Sam-Mary exchange "I'm sorry"
Early season episode titles were nice and short: Skin, Hookman, Asylum, Bugs

spn20rewatch: 1.07 hookman
supernatural does more racism :/ i really dislike how casually taylor dies. i'm not ideally placed to assess these things (im white) and maybe it doesn't feel that different from how jill dies in 1.05. but it does feel like the classic (bad) horror trope of the black girl dies first and punishing her for being sexual. i think sometimes supernatural has overarchingly positive takeaways about race (rarely mind. but one is coming up in 1.08 i think) but on an individual level it sucks how people of color are treated throughout this show. (kevin my best boy im so sorry. linda you deserved so much better. billie i will avenge you i swear (not a comprehensive list))
the episode opens once again with sam pushing to find john, and dean just wanting to work a case. i talked about this in 1.01 but sam really is the only one looking for john in season 1. dean knows john will find them when he wants to.
rewatching this in full reminded me of the claim made to me last week that sam is framed as a damsel in distress. which was really funny because lori was literally right there whimpering and screaming. but ok.
anyway, here's some pics of dean that make me feel SuperNormal
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there is a layer to dean's expressions while burning the reverend's bones that feels weighty to me. and i like my pet theory (which i haven't talked about yet here sorry) that you see dean in fewer layers when he's feeling more emotionally vulnerable. so far we've had 1.03 (claims he's not scared. he is. claims he doesn't have nightmares. he does (see 15.16 for direct parallels)) and 1.06 (shifter stealing his clothes and running around assaulting people while looking like dean). that reading opens up the possibility that there is something about the preacher's violence which more specifically upsets dean but that is i think going beyond just interpreting scenes into doing Specific Readings (which is also fun i think! just different)

supernatural s11e12 don't you forget about me (w. nancy won)
hookman redux? oh no it's just what's her face with the good hair and a sword. i don't remember jody's other girl *at all*. she also does not look remotely like a teenager. i know it's hard with casting young people. anyway, very cute to see jody so happy and proud.
Tumblr media
why is there so much weird food content in this episode, please 😭 sam and dean are so bored at home, they should be cooking more. we know they can do it! (dean, you know how happy you could make sam with something simple like this, roast chicken and mashed potatoes and green beans is dead easy and tasty and nutritious!)
Tumblr media
JODY This is according to the - HEY! [JODY looks at ALEX, who has tried to sneak her wine glass away.] Put it back! [ALEX puts the wine glass back.] JODY
neighborhood crime blogs that Claire has been reading. CLAIRE They're eye-witness accounts. SAM Well, we've hunted on less.
jody's face had me cackling. sam no longer the favorite son 😒
okay so. kathryn newton who plays claire is 19 and supposed to be... 19! and she looks 19. (have i mentioned how much i love her hair?) and katherine ramdeen who plays alex is 25-6 and is supposed to be... 18. sitting next to each other and bickering, it's kind of stark. also kind of funny that they mention barely recognizing her twice. not the only one. was thinking she was recast maybe, but nope
ALEX Claire did catch a werewolf. Oh right! Turned out to be a German shepherd with rabies. JODY And before that was the vampire. Councilwoman into erotic cosplay. I didn't know what cosplay was before that. Super embarrassing for the whole force. DEAN Wow. You've been busy.
i feel bad for claire but this is pretty great
CLAIRE Real life? Okay. Yeah, sure. Let's get real. You and Henry set on a weekend yet? ALEX What? CLAIRE When you sneaking off to Jody's cabin to screw yourself silly? DEAN Ohhh. Here we go.
getting her revenge, as is the sibling way.
Tumblr media
honestly, i'm eating this up. sam and dean could use some normal loving family dysfunction for once
JODY Hey, if we can't talk about it we shouldn't be doing it, right? Right? [SAM stutters.] DEAN What?
jody looking to the boys for backup and they're completely falling down on the job 😔 this is also weirdly topical because i've been prepping my 10 year old with information about puberty and basics of sex ed lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
JODY And don't expect the guy, as much as I love Henry, to always show up packing. (To SAM and DEAN) Am I right? [SAM looks down at his plate and takes another bite to avoid answering. Dean stares at her blankly.] DEAN What? JODY Seriously?
useless! :p
i am reveling (obviously) in the domestic awkward bullshit.
Tumblr media
JODY And but even there, I feel like I should be teaching her about boyfriends, and relationships, you know, stuff a mom would teach her. DEAN Sammy and I could've benefited from a little of that.
Tumblr media
it's fine, i'm fine. hey maybe jody can straighten dean out and get him to talk to sam about amara. they help with the kids, she can help the bigger kids :p
Tumblr media
CLAIRE Maybe it's time I just head out on my own. And be a full-fledged hunter. SAM Claire. I absolutely understand the need to hunt. Believe me. I do. But the monsters are always going to be there. On and on. Forever. But a chance at a family? At a home? School? That won't be.
probably rationing the use but i think this could have done with the mushy music. feeling for claire and sam.
also that's a huge bedroom
dean trying to be stern and lecture claire and give alex's boyfriend the stink eye, silly :p
ALEX You should know
I've done some really bad things. Hurt people. I should've told you before. HENRY Everybody's done stuff they're ashamed of. I mean, there was this one kid we all tortured in middle school, I-I can't even think about it. Alex! Hey. I don't care. Whatever it is you did, I don't. Okay?
very "this is the skin of a killer, bella"
jesus bad guy is beating the shit out of jody. very effective in how they shot/edited it
LOL aaand the boyfriend is a vampire, of course. didn't see the, i tried to help you out from a bad man but you took me back to your vampire nest and got turned, story. but made sure to vanquish any sympathy we might have had for the dude after saying he turned a high school kid into a vampire just to ruin her life as revenge
good old sibling bonding over killin vampires, a classic
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
adorable and always good to have more data that sam doesn't just eat salad :P
hey it's music reminding me of princess bride, i wonder if it's the same music as last time that reminded me of princess bride. that was a while ago (8x06 and 8x14 [which i included a clip of the music, dean setting up his room in the bunker with family pictures etc]). after comparing, the beginning is sorta similar but then it sort of mashes up into something else
DEAN You gonna be alright now that you're outnumbered again? JODY Ah, as long as everyone wears a condom, we'll be fine. DEAN I want that bumper sticker.
true that. told my 10 year old that it's important to know about sex and how babies get made because we don't want any surprise babies running around and the look he gave me: đŸ˜”â€đŸ’«
i think a lot of it is jody/kim rhodes but the katherine/kathryns also did great making the whole family dynamic with sam and dean work - and the writing! like hey you all can still do a good monster of the week and have really nice, touching and funny moments with the side characters - two episodes in a row! and i didn't even get disgruntled over amara drama once this episode woot woot

What was hunting even like for the winchesters before Sam left for college? How many of the regular hunting things they do in the show did Dean come up with on his own while Sam was at Stanford? I mean, Dean explains an emf meter (that he made by himself) to Sam like he'd never used one before in the phantom traveler. Also, in hookman, Dean uses rocksalt in a shotgun for the 1st time, and Sam had never seen that done before. So like what were they doing? John never thought to do that? It's fairly common for farmers to shoot rocksalt so it's not like it's some crazy thing. I'm sure there's more examples and we know how much Sam doesn't know about Dean and how Dean has shown ingenuity before. (Dad let you hunt alone? Dude I'm 26) (Sam assuming Dean wouldn't know to say Christo or know latin). How much of the supernatural lore and hunting knowledge displayed is just from Dean figuring things out on his own? What did John even do?

A little tease for my new chapter đŸ˜‰đŸ€
Chapter 7 - Hookman
Climbing into the car, the brothers saw that Stiles hadn’t moved, still laying on his back staring at the ceiling.
They drove down to the church Murph told them about and pulled up outside the building. Dean turned around to look at Stiles, “You don’t have to stay in the car for this one, Bud.” Stiles barely glanced at him before looking back at the ceiling, “You gonna come in with us?”
He didn't nod or shake his head or anything, just blinked at the ceiling.
“Okay.” Dean muttered and climbed out the car.
Sam turned and leaned over the back, looking directly at Stiles face, Stiles tilted his head to look at him, “I’m fine here-” he started.
“No.” Sam interrupted, “I think it’ll be good for you, come on.”
Sam climbed out the car and opened the back door, waiting for Stiles to sit up and climb out too.
Stiles hesitated, not in the mood to walk, but then saw they were parked outside of a church, he frowned, “What are we doing here?”
“The witness’s father is a reverend, she might be here so we can ask her some questions.”
“Oh, so you don’t actually need me for this.” Stiles huffed and tried to lay back down but Sam grabbed his upper arm and gently pulled him out of the car.
“You need to stretch your legs and get your mind on something else.” He explained, shutting the door behind Stiles so he couldn’t try and jump back into the car, “It’s not gonna help anyone if you stay in there and shut everyone out.”
Stiles glared at him for a moment before huffing and following Dean to the front steps, his hands in his hoodie pocket and eyes on the ground in front of him.
Dean tried to smile at him but Stiles didn’t even look up. Sadly, the three brothers walked into the church. They opened the doors, its loud hinges echoing through the hall, interrupting the sermon currently taking place.
The church goers turned to stare at them “-as a community,” The reverend continued, “and as a family. The loss of a young person is particularly tragic. A life unlived is the saddest of passings.” They quickly found an empty pew in the back and Lori, who was seated up front, was looking at Sam who smiled politely at her.
“So, please, let us pray. For peace, for guidance, and for the power to protect our children.”
Everyone bowed their heads, Sam followed their example and, noticing Dean still staring ahead, nudged him with his elbow. Dean frowned and followed on, copying everyone else. Stiles was staring at his feet, unable to look up at his brother. In the silence of the praying church, his own thoughts screamed at him; Murderer!

theres one that says sam was creepy for waiting outside that terrified, traumatized girls house in hookman and then making out with her minutes later, which, okay, point taken. but i think thats more of a case of the writers leaning into the whole damsels in distress, women want a shining knight to save them & then fuck them after they just lived through insane trauma - cliché

Okay, see, out of context and if you present it like that, I can see how that seems negative, but I’m replaying that moment in my head and it’s like:
Waiting outside her house? Yeah, that’s his damn job, he and Dean do this countless times over the course of the show. In s1, I can remember them staking out that one woman’s house to wait for Azazel to show up to give her baby blood. At a certain point, we can’t judge him or Dean for doing things that are expected of them in the genre of show they’re in (Supernatural is a cop show with monsters -> Cop shows have stakeouts.) (At that point, you’d have to start saying stuff like “well, they carry guns around all the time, and that’s bad because they might shoot someone,” or, “why do they keep doing torture on the torture-interrogation show.”)
The making out with her bit does seem iffy out of context, but then you watch the episode, and the girl is the one who goes outside and initiates it. Sam is the one to break off the kiss because he’s still mourning Jess. So? What? Was he supposed to use his psychic powers to dodge her lips?
And yeah, like you said, a helping of misogyny to smooth it along, but it’s not like both boys getting kisses for saving the day is an uncommon occurrence.

Supernatural Season 1 Ep. 7 "Hook Man"
Tumblr media
The Hookman, a spirit who kills with a hook, terrorises a college town in Iowa. Sam and Dean learn that all the victims are connected to the daughter of a local minister and try to find and destroy the Hook Man's bones before he finds them.
If you want to watch the series for yourself, stop reading! This post contains spoilers to the storyline.
Two girls are talking about clothes in their room. Lori tries on a revealing top lent to her by her roommate and goes to meet her boyfriend.
9 Mile Road, under a bridge, night-time - Lori and her boyfriend Rich arrive in a 4x4. Lori's phone rings. It's her dad, so she doesn't answer and keeps kissing. Rich tries to touch Lori's top, but she stops him. We see someone watching in the shadows. He has a hook and scratches road signs before vanishing. Rich and Lori hear a noise and Rich goes to look.
The car is attacked and the tyres burst and a long scratch on the side of the car. Lori locks herself in and screams. Lori gets out of the car and finds Rich's body hanging from the bridge, blood pooling under him.
Dean and Sam are looking for info on their dad. Sam comes out of a phone box and Dean shows him a newspaper article about an invisible attack on a car in Iowa. They decide to look into it.

At Eastern Iowa University, Dean and Sam pose as frat brothers from out of state. They ask for a room and are put with a guy called Murph. They ask him about the killing. He says Rich was with his girlfriend, Lori Sorenson, the night he died. Lori is the local Reverend's daughter.
Dean and Sam go to the church and walk in during Rich's service. They wait and talk with Lori. They ask questions and Sam says he knows how she feels when someone is hurt. Lori introduces them to her dad. Dean distracts the Reverend while Sam asks Lori more. She says she saw things and no one believes her.
At the library, Sam and Dean look at arrest records for a "Hookman" legend dating back to 1851. In 1862, a preacher named Jacob Karns killed 13 prostitutes with a hook he wore on his stump. Rich was killed on 9 Mile Road.

Lori argues with her dad in the car. He wants her to live at home, but she says she's old enough to make her own choices and goes back to her dorm. Lori goes to her room. Her roommate is asleep, so she gets ready for bed in the dark.
Sam and Dean check the crime scene with a shotgun full of rock salt. It won't kill Karns, but it will stop him. They hear something in the bushes. It's the cops, not the "Hookman". The brothers get arrested.
Lori wakes up to find her roommate dead in bed. There's a message on the wall in blood: "Aren't you glad you didn't turn on the light?" There is a symbol of crosses underneath.

Dean says Sam was a dumb pledge being hazed. The sheriff believes them and lets them go. Cops come running from the station and speed off. Sam and Dean follow and find a new crime scene. Lori is there and the cops think she is involved. They let her dad take her home, after Lori's father insists they either arrest her or let her go.
Sam and Dean climb through a window to check the crime scene. They say it's a spirit and a classic Hookman. They go back outside and think it's Jacob Karns' ghost. They need to find the body, salt it and burn it. Sam says Karns is in Old North Cemetery, in an unmarked grave.
Sam shows Dean articles from 1932 and 1967 about priests accused of murder with a sharp weapon. The boys think Lori's dad is summoning the Hookman or the Hookman is feeding off the reverend's emotions. Dean finds the Hookman's grave while Sam watches Lori.
Tumblr media
Dean searches and feels watched. He finds a grave marked with the same symbol as on the wall and starts digging, saying, "Next time, I get to watch the girl's house." His spade hits a coffin.
At Lori's house, Sam watches her from outside. He sees her arguing with her dad, then the light goes out and she joins Sam. He says he's watching her because he's worried.
Dean buries Jacob Karns' bones and says "Goodbye, Preacher."

Lori tells Sam her dad is having an affair with a married woman. She's upset and says he's a hypocrite. She hugs Sam and kisses him. Sam pulls away and says he can't. Lori's dad comes out and is called in. The Hookman attacks him and drags him inside. Sam chases the Hookman with a shotgun and stops him from killing Lori's dad by shooting him with rock salt. The Hookman disappears.
At the hospital, Lori's dad is being treated. Sam tells the sheriff about the Hookman, but doesn't say he's a ghost. Dean arrives and they talk. Sam wants to know why Dean didn't burn the bones. The Hookman is still around. Dean says he did, and they need to find and destroy the original hook. The Hookman was latched onto Lori, not her dad. Dean says, "Don't piss this girl off."
At the library, the brothers find that the hook was sent back to the church when Karns was executed for murder in 1862. Lori's dad's church. Sam finds the hook was re-forged by the church, but it doesn't say what.
Sam and Dean search for anything silver. They throw everything into the furnace. There's a noise upstairs. It's Lori. Sam stays with her while Dean goes back to melt the silver. Lori blames herself for the Hookman's appearance and is crying, which makes him appear again. Sam tries to comfort her, but the Hookman attacks again.
Tumblr media
They run and Sam tries to protect Lori, but gets hooked. Dean shoots the Hookman with salt again. He disappears, and they see the hook has not melted yet. Lori has a cross on her neck. Her father gave it to her. Dean takes the cross to melt and gives Sam the shotgun.
Sam tries to fight the Hookman, but he takes the gun and is about to kill them when the cross melts and he vanishes.
Outside, Sam is getting his arm treated by paramedics while Dean talks to the sheriff. Lori thanks Sam. Dean gets in the car and watches. He knows Sam liked Lori. Sam gets in the car and Dean says they could stay, but Sam says no and they ride off.
