the premise of the situation is quite… haunting.

to mourn a friend, (‘a lover’ — his voice gently admonishes from the back of your mind), who isn’t dead.

he still roams around the aether — akin to a ghost. and here you are, grieving a corporeal phantom of your past.

both you and suguru have a penchant for nostalgia, him moreso than you. it’s why he’s here now at the foothills of mount mushiro, camouflaging himself into the shadows of the night, depleting his own cursed energy so there’s not a single trace of him left. he stands there in a vantage point hidden behind massive japanese oak trees, a lonely specter peering wistfully at his dearly beloved.

ex-beloved, rather, he should say.

it was of his own volition anyways.

your lack of cursed energy leaves a bitter taste in his mouth when he remembers why he despises you so. the healed x-shaped scar on his chest burns and he wants to give you a matching one on your heart, as a reminder. you’re worse than a curse, he forces himself to seethe. heavenly restriction, huh? nothing heavenly about you…

a sick part of suguru wants to finally see you shatter — to watch someone as powerful as you break down and wail with such unbridled anguish, to hear your sorrowful screams pierce through the night sky like a gunshot wound to the head. something about imagining the way your tears would stick to your lashes makes his heart beat unbearably fast from within his ribcage. from sadness or intrigue, he doesn’t quite know…

he just selfishly craves to be the cause of it. to have you drown in tears of melancholy & be sundered by it like a tsunami of eerie desolation — to be plagued with devotion and corruption. just like him.

he wants you to get on your hands and knees and prostrate yourself to him — to lower yourself at his feet.

to apologize for being you. to apologize for coming into his life. to apologize for making him fall in love. to apologize for being his greatest curse. his greatest regret.

suguru huffs quietly, his low-lidded gaze is heavy with fatigue and slight boredom. his soft exhales turn into smoky vapor in front of him, evaporating within seconds. he tediously redirects his amber irises back at you, observing you like a science experiment, scrutinizing your every move… only if you had done something, of course.

he notes that your stony face betrays no emotions, your body is rigid as if in living rigor-mortis. he surmises that the only thing that differentiates you from the zen statues around you is the gentle wisps of your hair across your face courtesy of the cold wind, crisp due to the night air.

before he realizes it, suguru’s fingers involuntarily twitch.

(the same fingers have brushed against the plush of your cheek, caressed your hair & gently moved the strands away from your face. soft finger-pads outlined your lips gently, the shape of your cupid’s bow committed to memory. suguru figured the name was quite apt… he found himself wholly enraptured & in love.

a slight sniffle breaks suguru out of his reverie. he snaps his head back up at you, pierced brows furrowed and bright ochre eyes wide. he ignores the pang in his chest, his shock overtaking his senses leaving him paralyzed.

your reddened eyes flit towards the foliage where suguru hides behind, and you softly rasp out a tired sigh. your lack of words are far more frigid than the midnight air, causing an ice cold shiver to run through suguru’s spine.

forcing the constriction in his throat back down, he exhales shakily, in a state of utter shock.

heightened senses. superhuman physical capabilities. you always knew where suguru was before he ever knew where you were. a relationship of mutual indulgence — you pretend you don’t see him, and he pretends that you don’t know where he is at all times. as if you haven’t memorized his scent, his mannerisms, his soul. as if you couldn’t recognize him through physical vibrations alone.

his feet drag him to where you were hunched over before, his brain unable to catch up to what his body is doing. something glints in the moonlight, there in your stead, atop the plush green grass.

he crouches down, picking up the small photograph. the faded polaroid feels far heavier in his hand than he would think. a delicious shiver runs down suguru’s spine when he realizes his fingertips are touching where yours have touched. the bitterness that found its way in his mouth in the beginning washes away, leaving only a sickly sweet flavor that surrounds his mouth like pillowy cotton candy.

it’s one he hasn’t seen. you must’ve kept this with you all this time, he muses.

Main Seasons of TAZ Ranked (according to my own personal opinions):

Balance. No-brainer, one of those beautiful happy accidents that happen sometimes. The evolution from "4 comedians playing DND for a lark" to "seriously amazing storytelling and collaborative effort" is flawless. Also the story and characters are so fun. Taako revolutionized me as a person.

Amnesty. Beloved monster of the week. Flawless characters, exciting paranormal-sci fi plot, unique and interesting monsters, delightful little ski town. FRENCH ONION SOUP. goatman disguised as Ryan Gosling. gets a little muddled at the end and the gang did miss several chances to include key side characters like Pigeon and the FBI Agent, but overall a solid effort

TAZ vs Dracula. Absolutely delightful. Spiritual successor to Balance in some ways. Perfect gothic setting. Excellent hilarious side characters. Sports druids. Love triangle between Dracula, Frankenstein, and a clone of Dracula. Phyleaux (sp?) getting turned into a puppet in like episode 3. Mutt being like an 1800s Winchester brother. Lady Godwin my eyes are up here thank you.

Steeplechase. Fucking amazing setting, Justin was truly living his Disney dad dream. Characters didn't stand out as much to me but the setting and adventures made up for it. Love the whole setup. The Abandoned Child Floor. The people who have fallen for a conspiracy that they're in outer space instead of a theme park. Krystal with a K. So many delightful shenanigans.

Ethersea. This one was ambitious. I love the setting, and Amber Gris, but I think they tried too hard to make this one serious, and the boys made some character arc choices they weren't able to deliver on because they ran out of time. That said, Justin making his character stop talking to Travis's character because Devo was being a brat and then having to field real life rumours that the brothers had a falling-out was fuckin hilarious. Speaking of, I did actually miss a lot of Devo's parts bc the fake french accent was triggering my misophonia so I ended up skipping through his longer speeches. So that may be partially why I didn't get it. Still a solid arc, and I hope they do a second season someday.

Graduation. Okay, I tried. I really did! I listened to like 20 episodes! But sadly Travis did fall for a lot of beginner writer mistakes like infodumping and having too many side characters, and when you're playing a collaborative game those are amplified threefold, because it's not just "oh this book is kinda boring" there are 3 people who are shut out of the game lol. Also there just wasn't enough action for me, and Clint's vaguely Scottish accent.... misophonia hell lmao. Also this was The Covid Arc and during that time I was so anxious and depressed I basically cut all podcasts except my true crime ones so maybe mental illness is to blame. Idk maybe I'll try it again someday but I didn't like it very much the first couple times I tried.

Outre Space, which I have not listened to because I kept saying I was going to read the comic it's based off of first and I still haven't, and I'm not really into marvel anymore anyway so idk if I'll ever get into it. I feel like they only did this one because they were contractually obligated to do spon con anyway, none of the boys seemed super thrilled in the announcement for it

I lowkey forgot where I continued listening, I hope I remember everything (I did this over the span of several days)

the professional escape service is such a Camicazi thing to do!!! I’m so happy she makes an appearance and that she’s her usual badass self! Also, Eggingarde makes it out yassssss

Hnnnnghhhh. The scene where Hiccup gives himself up. Where he finally outs himself after a year of being on the run. The way his scrawny looks are described. His growing up and having gotten older. The way he gets surrounded by 200+ swords, which must be an amazing sight to behold, and the way the Witch wants to make sure he doesn’t escape. Everyone scooting after him on their yots (still don’t know how to spell it) as he aimlessly drives across the sand. Lol. It’s hilarious but so in character for the vikings. Stoick and Gobber finally openly supporting and rooting for Hiccup is such a relief too!!! It’s so deserved!!!

AND THEN THAT SCENE. Innocence, Arrogance and Patience my beloved. They shoot lightning. They are black with green eyes, and they are hovering over Hiccup roaring, preparing to kill him, yet sparing him because of his friendship to Fishlegs. The detail of Hiccup almost passing out, gosh, it’s the scene where Toothless pins Hiccup down in the woods! And since the book came out in 2012, this scene was inspired by the og movie!!! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!! Nevertheless, Cressida stayed true to her own vision and did not blindly copy the movie in return. Props to her for that. Having seen the movie first, it can’t have been easy.

The scene where the dragon gets caught in a trap on the Red Sands, and tells the story of Fishlegs. Oh my gosh Fishlegs. It’s so satisfying and such an oddly specific situation.

I don’t think the book!monster even gets a name. And it’s one of the most terrifying things I’ve ever heard described in literature. Cressida really loves horror. Welp, I don’t. I loved this book so far, but should I ever come back to it, I will most likely skip this scene.

However, the mirror tunnels were a beautiful sight to imagine!!! The treasures behind glass and Grimbeard’s red herring solved are sooo cool. Wait, I remember this episode in Rtte that dealt with a lot of amber as well. There was a connection to the Deathsong, I believe. To watch those amber/glass walls collapse and rain glorious, deadly splinters down on Hiccup was super satisfying. 

Fishlegs!!!! Poor Fishlegs. Again, the description. Of them both being cold, starved, enslaved, unrecognizable stickfigures in rags. Just the amount of things these two have been through together creates a feeling of real brotherhood right there in that cave. Awesome moment.

I personally would have just waited for the tide to withdraw before breaking out of the tunnel and having to swim?? I mean, the whole cool crystal cave got flooded. Plus, the underwater aquarium effect was so unexpectedly wholesome because it fit into the unlikely narrative.

Fishlegs, the runt, gets the coolest dragon!!!! Yass!!! This is such a personally important moment for me, actually. This is why I relate to movie!Hiccup so much. Because the coolest character alive thought he was worth protecting... because of who he already was. This may be a spontaneous emotional dump, but I have longed for the very same thing to happen to me my entire life. But I have not been worth this to someone, so when I became an adult, I had to learn how to be this person for myself. I’m still learning how to be okay with what went down, and that I’m not going to miss out on anything much important because of it.

At this moment in the book, all is well and the narrator literally tells you to take a break, drink a glass of water and consider sharply whether you want to keep going with the story. I took that as my cue to stop for now. There’s still an hour to go. Will do a Part 3.

You listened to storytellers, bought various items like fireworks and sparklers and ate good food, just enjoying each other's company until the evening arrived.

Beidou just dragged you away, making sure you closed your eyes the whole time until you reached your destination.

When you opened your eyes, you couldn't believe it - you were on the Cruz Fleet, surrounded by her crew and all your loved ones.

As soon as you stepped on, the ship leisurely sailed off into the night like some fairytale and you got to enjoy a moonlit sail, as cheesy as it sounds.

It was slow and you allowed yourself to savour the way the ships's lanterns reflects and glittered on the water a long with the moon.

You were surrounded by everyone you cared about and everyone who cared about you (but some of the crew drank a little too much in celebration of your birth hehe)

Dahlia "Dollie" Duskhearth - Pastel goth loner girl who tbh is only plot relevant for like 5 seconds and mainly exists to look pretty. Has a reputation as the "weird creepy kid" but enjoys it. Almost entirely nonverbal except when she's talking about ghosts and horror-related topics.

Miki Sugihara - Super cool popular girl!!!! Kinda intimidating at first but actually really sweet, although she does have a tendency to lie and hide her feelings. Wants to be a good big sister figure towards everyone, especially her adoptive brother Ivy (totally not to compensate for feeling responsible for her biological little brother's death)

Gyles Phoenix - a funny little man. Actually tall but. Y'know. A goofy little comedian. Always does his best to entertain and make people laugh, he does this to spread happiness but the habit often does get into the territory of being facetious or outright insulting others. He also has really bad issues with emotional regulation that cause him to be a bit of a social outcast

Jake "Drake" Fisher - A sweet boi with a very chuunibyou-esque personality,, he's a childish daydreamer who doesn't wanna face reality and grow up, so he bases his personality around his super edgy OP self-insert, Draconius "Drake" Nocturne. Ngl he's based a lot off 10 year old me's "cringey" edgy phase that I kinda don't wanna grow out of, so I diagnose him with "listens to the living tombstone's fnaf songs 24/7". Him and Gyles are INCREDIBLY close friends and would live and die for each other. In Jake's daydream world he runs a syndicate of dragon-themed heroes and as a kid he recruited Gyles to be vice-leader. To this day Gyles is the only actually real person in Jake's gang, and the only one who still calls him Drake.

Ivy Aspenfall - Miki's little brother, a gnc KING but also kinda fucked up. Well I mean he's a fox who can turn into a human and he's got some good ol fashion TRAUMA from how he was treated for this and so he's really secretive and selfish and emotionally cold, but also super paranoid 24/7. Ironically, his paranoia just leads to him getting manipulated even more... Anyway, on a lighter note, this dude's personality is straight up "snobby gifted kid who refuses to shut up about being superior to everyone else and everyone hates him for it. Especially gyles." Also he plays violin

Froggie (nickname, he has a real name but I'm considering changing it) - Miki's dead little brother, autistic and his special interest is frogs, he is just a little ghost child who cries a lot and is super clingy to his big sister who unfortunately cannot see him (Ivy can but doesn't say shit cause he's kinds a jerk)

Author's note: Hello!! I am back with the first chapter of "A funny thing called Fate" and this time this is in Bryce's POV

Just a word of caution, 16 year old Bryce (according to me) is your typical bad boy who is a jerk and upholds his reputation and prestige as the most important priorities

10 years ago- Bryce's POV

"Aloha!!" Bryce's cheerful voice ran clear through the hallways as he approached his teammates, instantly capturing the attention of the people.

"Hey Bryce, my man." Jason, his best friend stepped forward and did a complicated handshake with him before patting his back.

"How was the summer?" Kai, his other best friend spoke up as he leaned against the lockers, his dark hair falling on his eyes.

"You know the usual. Practice and stuff. My parents did take us to Australia. The waves there are sweet." Bryce whistled lowly, remembering how he spent numerous days surfing at sea.

"What a lucky bastard. Do you think your parents would adopt me?" Jason asked causing Kai to chuckle.

At this point, they would want anyone but me as their son. A dark look passed on his face but he hid it behind the over cheerful and happy go lucky mask.

"So, what's up with you guys?!" He asked, smoothly changing the topic.

Jason began. "Well I for one, had a fun summer hanging out at the beach, enjoying the sun-"

"-having flings left, right, centre." Kai completed the sentence, snickering.

"As if you weren't the one who fooled around more. You broke so many hearts, Kai!!" Jason rolled his eyes.

"But I finally settled down, unlike your unsettled ass." Kai exclaimed.

"50 bucks you will break up with him in ten days." Kai narrowed his green eyes and smacked the back of Jason’s head. 

"Wow, seems like I have some catching up to do." Bryce smirked.

Kai turned towards Bryce, suddenly serious. "Glad you brought it up. We have a proposition for you."

Bryce incredulously raised his eyebrow.

"Your two o'clock. Short brunette with glasses. Don't be too obvious."

Bryce ran his hand through his long hair and his amber eyes fell on the girl.

He leaned against the locker near Jason.

"What's her deal?"

"Apparently, she joined the school last year and has been on the low. Keeps to herself, certified nerd, teacher's pet and super uptight."

Bryce eyed her and he recognized that she was in his chemistry class last year.

Aisha Khurrana.

"Wait... That's Aisha. She was in my chemistry class last year. Introverted and quiet."

Jason did a double-take. "Wait really? Well, that makes it easier for us."

"Good. I will make y'all talk to her-"

Kai stopped him midway. "Woah, woah, woah. We don't want to interact with her. You are the one doing this."

"Will one of you kanilehua tell me what the fuck is going on?" Bryce asked, getting annoyed.

"After the legendary prank Ano pulled last year, it's time we step up. So while you were tanning your okole in Australia, Jason and I were brainstorming to come up with a better idea."

Jason continued. "So we decided that you could get her fall in love with you before the finals and boom! We could pull the prank on prom."

Bryce's eyed widened. "Woah, don't you think that's extreme?"

Kai rolled his eyes. "Please, Ano humiliated a teacher and exposed that he was having an affair with a junior. I don't think it's that extreme."

"What is this prank you have planned on prom?"

Jason waved his hand. "We haven't worked out the details but we have the entire year to do that. You on the other hand... Are running out of time."

Bryce's eyebrows furrowed. "And why can't either of you take this up?"

"Because Kai here is surprisingly getting cosy with Kaeo the jock from Sunset High while I am on the principal's radar for the shit I did last year. I am this close to getting expelled." Jason enunciated his point by touching his pointer finger and thumb.

"Jas... you're touching your fingers."

"Exactly."  

"So will you take one for the team?”

Bryce sighed. "I just... don't know. Honestly." 

“Bro, this could literally make or break our popularity bro. You don't want to be the laughing stock of the school, do you?" They asked with puppy eyes.

The peer pressure and the need to uphold his reputation as the golden boy made him raise his hands in defeat. His eyes glanced at the losers down the hall, who people were blatantly ignoring.

Definitely don't want to fall in that category.

"Fine. I will do it. But you will owe me."

"That's our boy." The boys whooped as they clapped his back.

Bryce's eyes wandered to his new target, finding her brown eyes staring right back at him. The flecks of hazel shone with curiosity but her face was impassive as if she didn't want to let anyone in.

Well, this is going to be an interesting year, Aisha Khurrana. Bryce thought to himself.

PRESENT

When Bryce woke up this morning, he didn't think his day would turn out this way.

Who would have fucking thought that the one girl you could never get over shows up at the hospital you are a surgical intern at?

Not me.

He was looking forward to this fresh start. A new city where no one knew who he was and he hoped it stayed that way. To hone his craft and become one of the best surgeons in the country. Anything to get rid of the stains on his name.

After Aisha left at the beginning of Junior year of high school, things were hard. Not that anyone was going to believe him but he actually loved her and no matter how many people he hooked up with, no matter how much he drank himself to oblivion, there was just no getting over her.

He often wondered- no believed that he had lost his one shot at love.

You only get one great love and of course, I had to blow it up, and for what? Popularity? Reputation? That already went down the drain because of my beloved dad.

When he finally got his head in the game and things were bearable, the scandal happened towards the end of the Senior year. Sure, he could hide face during the summers, lounging in his gaudy compound. But he could hear the occasional shouts and protests out of the gates of his home, reminding him that he couldn't escape the truth.

To distract himself from his dad going to trial, his mom selling out to the feds and his baby sister crying from the stress, he dove right into his studies, hoping to score well in his SATs so that he could get away from Maui.

But there was still one year of high school left, and that was fucking awful. He was relentlessly bullied at every turn of the corridor, got the stink eye from the teachers and people jumped away from him as if he was a social pariah.

Technically, I was.  

Though his parents were very tight-lipped about the details of the case, it wasn't that hard to get to know more from the internet. And the fact that the people in his school always made it a point to remind him.

Aisha's dad was one of the people who worked for the company that got screwed over by his dad.

Bryce had given up after all these years that he will ever find her again. He often wondered what would he do if he were to meet her again. The apologies he would say and the monologue on how ‘he was never the same after she left’ had been practised over and over again.

But right there she was, half-naked in front of him, completely at the loss of words. His eyes wandered, making sure if it was the same girl from tenth grade. There was a nose piercing and he saw a little ink near a hip.

"Aisha?" He repeated, completely shocked, his jaw dropped. Never in his entire life has he felt the loss of words.

They stared into each other's eyes, chocolate brown eyes meeting his amber ones, completely lost.

But that moment didn't last for long because Jackie shutting the locker made them realize that this was indeed reality.

Aisha managed to snap out of her reverie. "Oh my fucking god, I don't have time for this shit." She rapidly threw on her fresh sets of scrubs and slammed her locker before making a move.

Bryce stepped in her path, blocking her. "What are you doing here?!"

Her eyes snapped up to meet his, the familiar fire and hatred flooding in those brown orbs. "Well, I could ask you the same thing Mr. I-will-become-a-lawyer. Now out of my way, I'm getting late for the orientation." Though she was short (5 feet 3 inches to be precise), she still managed to slam her shoulder against his chest and walk away.

"Oh My God!!" Jackie's voice resounded after a few quiet moments.

"Put a cap on it nose wipe." He muttered as he rubbed the area where Aisha slammed against him.

"I didn't say anything."

"Yeah but that expression says it all." He rolled his eyes as put his stethoscope into his breast pocket.

"But, for real. Who is she?" Jackie asked, inquisitiveness laced in her voice.

Bryce flicked her nose. "I found your nose in my business, why don't you take it right out?"

"Ugh. Fine. Keep your secrets. C'mon, let us get to the orientation before it gets over."

"Yap. Right behind you."  The duo headed towards the main atrium and made their way towards the front so that they could hear the hospital chief. The rest of the interns were already gathered in front of the stairs upon which an impressive, statuesque woman stood and spoke.

That is Dr Harper Emery!! Bryce thought to himself, as the very thought of standing in the very same room as his inspiration made him giddy. He turned to talk but the excitement instantly vanished because thanks to his amazing luck, he ended up standing right next to Aisha.

The universe, what games are you playing against me? Bryce let out a sigh which caught Aisha's attention. She just gave an annoying glance and stared up, as if to ask why was this happening to her.

Both of them turned away from each other and focused on what Dr Emery was saying. "... because as of today, you are no longer students, You are doctors."

Aisha turned towards Jackie and whispered. "Psst. Who is that?"

Jackie whipped her head towards Aisha's short build. "I don't know if you are joking or are serious."

Aisha's ears getting red was the only confirmation Jackie needed. Her jaw dropped and she was physically incapacitated, unable to speak before she finally managed to string together words.

"Seriously? Did you learn medicine in the woods or something?"

Aisha's eyes narrowed and Bryce just knew that if he didn't intervene Aisha would absolutely roast Jackie and her lineage.

So, in a low voice, he spoke up. "That's Harper Emery, the hospital's new chief." A smile made his way on his face as he continued to talk about her. "She's a total badass! World-famous head of neurosurgery before she got promoted."

He turned towards Jackie, smirking. "Guess she's just a scalpel jockey too, huh?"

Giving a Cheshire grin she responded. "She's the only scalpel jockey who deserves rights."

Aisha gave a stiff nod before turning back towards the Chief.

Someone is definitely a ray of sunshine. Bryce thought to himself. His conscience promptly snarked. Bold of you to assume that this isn't your fault.

Brain... Stop. as he shook his head to shake off the guilt that slowly swirled in his chest.

"More will be demanded of you that you've ever experienced. Some of you will buckle under the pressure. Some of you will quit. But some... some of you will thrive."

"Damn... She is so inspiring... I feel like I can do anything." Aisha whispered, her brown eyes sparkling with admiration.

"Well then, can I inspire you to pipe down? I'm trying to listen."

"Can I inspire you to get your ears checked, budhiya?" Jackie looked offended but you could see the glint of amusement and respect in her eyes.

"Girls, can this fight wait until after the speech?" Bryce muttered.

"This is not fighting. This is us bonding scalpel jockey. Get on the same page." Jackie whispered causing Aisha to smirk.

"I give up. But please for the love of everything good can we keep it on the low." He shot a pleading look and they managed to shut up.

"You've been entrusted with a sacred duty: the care and wellbeing of every man, woman and child who enters this hospital. Are you ready?"

The interns promptly burst into applause and they look around, sharing excited smiles with their new colleagues.

Harper Emery raised her hand, to silence the applause. "You'll be introduced to your senior residents tomorrow but for now, you'll be partnering up for your first patients. Your assignments are posted on the board. Good luck, doctors!!"

Bryce swaggered up to his board and searched for his name and found out that he was paired with a Samantha.

Wait for a second... that name sounds fami-

"You?" He swirled around towards the feminine sound and as soon as his eyes landed on her, the memories hit him.

Him running his hands through her hair whilst they kissed passionately against the door of her apartment. Her running her hands down his abs and pulling him by the loops of his belt. Both of them lost in the sensation of each other and Bryce still had the scratch marks on his back to remind him of the amazing night they had the previous day.

"Sam? I didn't know you worked here!!"

"Well fate is a funny thing, isn't it? So apparently we are partners?"

"Yap and we need to take our cases from the residents and be on our way. Are you ready?" Bryce asked, a smirk playing on his lips.

"I was born ready baby." Sam winked as she started pushing her way through the throng of interns and Bryce followed suit.

When they finally were free, Jackie showed up next to him followed by Aisha and another girl who had a striking resemblance to Chief Emery.

"See you later meathead."

"Try not to miss me too much." He winked before glancing towards Aisha. Their eyes met and she immediately looked the other way, chatting with her partner.

"It's a beautiful day to save lives. Let's have some fun, shall we?" Sam asked her eyes twinkling which just made Bryce smile.

It was going good so far. He had been allotted two cases that day. One with a routine appendectomy and the second one being a benign tumour removal from the right lung. With a cool, calm collected mind, the two of them diagnosed the patients, raising eyebrows.

"Dr Lahela, what is the treatment plan?" Dr Tanaka, the head of cardiovascular surgery asked.

"Well we are administering her with tumour shrinking drugs like bromocriptine so that we could decrease the size and then after a couple of days we will take her for surgery."

Dr Tanaka gave a nod of appreciation. Sam turned and held the young patient's hand. "Miss, you are in good hands and if you have any more questions you can always ask for us."

"Thank you so much, Dr Anderson."

They stepped out of the room and Bryce shut the door behind them.

"Keep an eye on her and do checks every four hours. Good job." Dr Tanaka turned on his heels and only when he was out of earshot Sam fist-bumped Bryce.

"The surgical society is back at it again."

"God Sam that was awful." He groaned as he pulled his pen out to sign the charts.

"Well, that just means I need to keep thinking of names for the dynamic duo. See you later byeee."

He shook his head and gave the charts to the nurses' station before whistling down the confusing corridors of Edenbrook when suddenly he heard a thud sound from the nearby supply closet.

Must be a doctor who is not having a good day.

He stopped before the door, contemplating whether he should enter or leave but his instinct to help overpowered and he cracked open the door to see Aisha leaning heavily against the racks, her back towards him. Her shoulders were shaking and he could hear her heavy breathing.

He was about to leave unnoticed when Aisha’s voice wafted over to him. “get in or get out. Don’t hold it open.” She glanced towards the door and Bryce knew that he could kiss his unnoticed exit goodbye.

Oh boy. 

Oh? so we have a new character 👀 And um that really wasn't the reunion Bryce was looking forward to lol

favorite wtfockdown sobbe clip hmmmmm... i might say their last one actually talking face to face bc first of all, i LOVE that bg wherever sander is with the spray paint, and secondly, i think they’re just sufficiently loved up and happy to see each other no matter how pointless or dumb the convo is like.. sander’s dopey smile when robbe was just saying he hoped things would open... nothing funny was even said, he’s just in love fkldjsfkl. it was also an example of wtfock responding to criticism people had about s3 while also being kind of revealing abt sander’s mindset on that sort of thing... like that advice he gives about revisiting slowly but surely until robbe’s fully comfortable feels like him probably reciting advice he’s received in therapy or smth bc like... it’s true! you can’t just be scared of reliving traumatic memories forever bc they might not leave and there will always be things you have to work through but you don’t necessarily have to let it seep into your physical realm or take on shape or form of a place like *sander voice* their bar, and the fact that robbe is always gonna have him to lean back on when he’s struggling about that is comforting. it’s a hard thing to have a convo over on a computer screen, but they are sweethearts and i like that the hate crime was addressed even just briefly like that. close second would be the pool lockdown walk or the chernobyl one maybe!!

favorite character interactions in general?? i don’t know that i have specifics but i loved seeing jana/jens in the bg of season 3. i also LOVE yasmina/luca’s friendship and hope we get more of that in s5, they can be such hellions together but they’re very much the same speed of humor. i wish we got to see more bg britt/noor but damn noor being at a different school.... hmmm...  season 4 i’ve enjoyed the crumbs of luca/amber friendship in the bg also. i really don’t think my brain can conjure anything specific at the moment so OOPS sorry.

favorite chaotic memes huh.... loved all the chaos before we knew who sander was, i only joined right at the start of week 2 but it was fun to just. not know fkjdsklf to speculate. the most memorable overall was probably the round world one about robbe on his bike riding to find sander fkldsjflk. i WISH i was around for the agony of ohn weekend in general, i was in cali on vacation and not with my phone most of the time, so i missed a lot of that general madness but watching s3 live was fun and emotional and i miss it. 

honestly i don’t even think my favorite picks in general are wildfire or wandering romance as much as i DO love those choices of song. i adore the passenger cover of space oddity and the way it just stops the second he blocks sander. there were a lot of moments like that in s3 where robbe was wearing headphones and it’d stop or get softer when he took them off like.. there was a lot of clever mixing too, just as much as song choice. my favorite song that i actually added to all my playlists immediately after hearing was from me by khushi during the cuddle clip, THAT was one of my fav songs all season. (so was contaminated by banks while robbe gets up and goes n sits on the beach to text his mom) also some shoutouts go to two men in love during the date scene (haunting literally fuck), way down we go in the bg of the bar after noor/britt ditch them, rescue my heart during the hotel scene, and also them ending s3 with in my mind, which is also the song that plays in the only trailer of wtfock!! i feel like those are pretty tame picks but the seasons soundtrack overall was just vibey and cohesive and i got a lot of new music/artists to look out for from it so.

when I started shipping it if I did:

I honestly don’t even remember. I usually don’t start shipping couples as I watch a show, but after when I’m looking for fanfic to distract me from my schoolwork. So sometime after finishing S1.

my thoughts:

Heisaki pretty much caters to every grossly trash thing I like in ships: enemies to lovers, preferably with some kickass woman and some super-evil looking masked dude with Secret Depths and Softness™ (I know I’m garbage okay I’ve made my peace), where Sad Angry Scary Dude is shown affection from someone who believes in their goodness more than they’re disgusted by their evil, and Strong But Soft Woman discovers tenderness and support in the unlikeliest of  places.

What makes me happy about them:

All of the above, and also the way they cycle through various identities with each other in canon, the way canon teases them as people who would make an amazing team if they weren’t pawns for organizations bigger than themselves. What makes me sad about them:

The way canon bastardized Misaki in the second season into being obsessed with catching Hei because of her weird unresolved feelings for him. But not in a cool or respectful way; just in a way that made Misaki into a lovesick waif whose personality completely went out the window. 

things done in fanfic that annoys me:

Mostly when Hei becomes to emotional or emotionally honest with Misaki without a lot of buildup, considering he’s been emotionally constipated for going on a decade now and for reasons that involved not dying. Likewise when Misaki turns into a damsel to be saved.

things I look for in fanfic:

Some sort of clear ideological friction between the two of them; Misaki’s discovery of the Black Reaper’s identity and/or interacting with the Black Reaper in person. 

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:

No one? Hei’s other options are Amber, a ship which I find interesting as something in Hei’s past but not one I would endgame bc abusive, and Yin, who is mentally basically a child and it feels like pedophilia.

My happily ever after for them:

Haaaa the grossly indulgent Office AU. Hei becomes a contractor working with Section 4, develops a little friend/family unit with Section 4 and astronomics; he and Misaki get married; Hei reconnects with his family in China; Hei and Misaki have a little girl named Seiko and it’s gr9. Everything is beautiful and occasionally hurts but never, y’know, forever.

who is the big spoon/little spoon:

Hei, probably. But it could vary. They’re just about equal in height so there’s no reason one should be the big spoon over the other.

what is their favorite non-sexual activity:

Stargazing.

Don’t even remember. Sometime after finishing Book 3, I think. 

my thoughts:

Gold standard ship. The ship I keep shipping in other fandoms, just in different iterations. The ying-yang, ‘you rise with the moon, I rise with the sun’ way they complement each other, and yet at their cores are so similar: highly driven, compassionate, passionate people who are proven in battle to make a great team.

What makes me happy about them:

The way their relationship beautifully unfolded over three seasons of mortal enemies, to maybe-allies (and then would-be-ally and traitor), to allies and friends. The way each season of ATLA ends with a fight between them; the first two against each other, and the last one with each other. The way they are safe places for the other— Katara confiding to him in the crystal caves, and again about her mother in Southern Raiders; Zuko confiding to Katara about his fear of facing his uncle, and Katara’s reassurance, and then the way Zuko took Katara with her to fight Azula because he knew he needed a steadfast ally he could trust.

What makes me sad about them:

The way Bryke have insulted the ship over the years, calling it too ‘dark and mysterious’ for Nick, but then fucked up all of the canon relationships in ATLA by having their kids have extremely dysfunctional relationships with their parents, or just making the relationships straight-up dysfunctional coughMaikocough 

things done in fanfic that annoys me:

When Katara gets the Mary Sue Strong Independent Woman treatment, or when she becomes some helpless crying waif (usually Book 1 kidnapping fics, which can be good, okay, they can), and likewise when Zuko post-redemption is still a jerkass. I mean he can still be a jerk, but he’s not a jerkass.

things I look for in fanfic:

I’ll read almost anything. I like S1 fic (typically Zuko captures Katara, and Katara takes none of his shit, and then TEAMWORK HAPPENS), s2 fic where crotchety I-once-did-something-good-and-gave-myself-a-coma Zuko and Katara are forced to work together in lovehate, and post-s3 Western Air Temple fics where Zuko has to earn Katara’s forgiveness. 

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:

No one lmao. I’m not a multishipper.

My happily ever after for them:

Fire Lord Zuko and Fire Lady Katara rule the Fire Nation in peace and harmony and are happy, the end.

002. Ben Solo

How I feel about this character:

ALL THE THINGS. I LOVE MY BOYFRIENDSON BEN SKYWALKER-ORGANA-SOLO.

More seriously— I love how he’s desperate for villainy, and yet cannot achieve it no matter how hard he tries. I love that this is a character who has to pray away the Light within him. I love how even after killing his father, the Light still won’t go away. I love that he is the beloved son of one of the most loved couples in cinematic history, related in a significant way to almost everyone in the prequels, OT, and sequels. I love that he effectively flips the conflict of the original films, wherein the fallen father is saved by the goodness of his son, and now it is the fallen son who will be saved (mark my words) by his father. I love the angst inherent in watching this character, who was practically born to be a hero, do everything he can to shirk his destiny and ensure his Darkness, and yet fall short. And most of all, I love the possibility (inevitability) of his redemption. I love the idea of getting to explore what redemption looks like when you don’t die before its completion, like Anakin. I love the idea of Ben realizing that his father did save him after all; of getting to smile at his uncle again;  of getting to hug his mother again; of it hurting so much— the hurt of a healing wound, at last, and not the hurt of the Dark Side. Of Ben getting to reclaim the person he might have been, had Snoke and misfortune and his own hamartia not found him, so that he no longer has to hide behind a false name and a mask, but can finally as himself face the sun, unafraid. Ben Solo means a lot to me. Maybe the hypotheticals of his character more than what we have now. But I honestly think that my strange compassion for this fake person has made me a better person. Because, if I can sit here and rail for his redemption no matter his sins— then what excuse do I have not to try to become a better person myself?

All the people I ship romantically with this character:

Rey the bae all the way.

My non-romantic OTP for this character:

BenPoe/Knightpilot, especially involving them as childhood friends, and Poe having to come to terms with Ben, who he was, and who he is, after Ben defects back to the Resistance. Some of my favorite character pieces to this end are This Thing of Darkness I Acknowledge Mine and Orbital Period. Also the BenPoe fandom are pretty much the nicest people ever?

My unpopular opinion about this character:

The fact that I like him is probably an unpopular opinion. 

Okay okay my real unpopular opinion (ESSAY AHOY) is my insistence of Kylo Ren’s true name still being Ben Solo (ofc you know this is a thing with me bc you very diplomatically asked me to talk about ‘Ben Solo’ and not ‘Kylo Ren’ in your ask lmao, and you know I call him ‘Ben’ just like I call Vader ‘Anakin’— practically always, in both cases, because it’s for the same reason). Kylo Ren is a shadow archetype, an alter ego, a mask and a costume— the thing Ben is trying desperately to become and yet never will, not only because he failed so horribly at being a proper villain in TFA (going for Rey instead of the droid; not torturing the bejeezus out of Rey immediately; feeling immediate regret after killing his father, not pushing Rey off a cliff during their fight when he had the chance, and then losing to her), but because it’s just how Star Wars works. It’s the same with Anakin and Vader— as Luke says to Vader in ROTJ, ‘[Anakin] is the name of your true self; you’ve only just forgotten,’ and ultimately Luke is proven right. Throughout canon, the Dark Side is depicted as a corruption of your true self; a warping of who you really are. Your Dark Side is not your authentic self, it’s a gross imitation, and whatever you call yourself under the thrall of the Dark Side is not your true name either. This is how it functioned for Anakin/Vader in the OT; and how it was for Galen Marek/Starkiller in the EU. Your Dark Side name is your slave name. It’s just another mask; a type of verbal disassociation— another way to remove yourself from the reality of what you’re really doing and what you have become. There is also the gross, skeevy observation that Anakin was given the name Vader by Palpatine, the creep who groomed him, and it’s not a difficult leap to assume that Snoke, the creep who groomed Ben in utero, gave Ben the name Kylo Ren. It is canon that Snoke has forbidden the name ‘Ben Solo’ to be spoken by anyone in the First Order, including Ben. But who the hell knows that Kylo Ren is Ben? It’s treated as an extreme secret, and currently I’d say the number is limited to Snoke, Hux, and Ben himself. So who is Snoke really forbidding from saying the name Ben Solo? Ben. He’s forbidding Ben. He’s giving Ben a gag order on his own name— which should immediately ring your bells as being sketchy AF for OBVIOUS REASONS, including but not limited to the fact that you only forbid people from doing things you know they are in danger of doing. If Ben were really completely dead, if he were really Kylo Ren all the way down, then what is Snoke afraid of? All of this to say, it annoys the everlasting and eternal fuck out of me when I see fics or headcanons where a redeemed Ben does not go back to that name, because then to me it represents a person who is still hiding behind the verbal equivalent of a mask. It would be like a redeemed Anakin still going by the name Darth Vader. It’s watching a man stand by the name of his abuse. It stands in literal opposition of everything a true redemption symbolizes, especially in Star Wars, and it’s gross gross gross I hate it.

Reylo. Okay technically Reyben. But yeah. More recently I’ve become obsessed with the idea of them as parents, because it would be such a beautiful capstone for them both. Rey, lonely, orphan Rey, finally having a family of her own. Rey being terrified of motherhood, because she can’t even remember her mother. Rey feeling that fierce, wolfish upwelling of maternal protectiveness for the first time and knowing she wouldn’t trade it for the world. Ben, terrified of making the mistakes his parents made with him; Ben, terrified of his past poisoning his children’s future. Ben, now a father, realizing the sort of unbreakable love that let his own father walk out on that bridge knowing he might die, and still taking the chance on his child. Ben, looking at the bundle in his arms and knowing he’d do the same. asdfghjkl;

my cross over ship:

Ben Solo x happiness, probably. I know it’s a wild concept.

a headcanon fact:

Ben is naturally good at pazaak and other gambling/card games. It’s one of the few roguish/smugglerish things he has in common with Han. Poe, Finn, and Rey always accuse him of using the Force to cheat, but he never does. During sessions of strip Pazaak (Poe’s idea), Poe, Finn, and Rey will be almost completely naked while Ben sits across the table fully clothed.

E3 2021 Conference: Schedule, Dates, Games, and News

The biggest week on the gaming calendar is back! E3 has returned after last year’s trade show was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Things are a little different for E3 2021, which won’t have a show floor at the Los Angeles Convention Center like in past years. Instead, the convention will take place completely online as an all-virtual event featuring a whole list of live streams hosted by the industry’s biggest publishers and studios, including Microsoft, Bethesda, Nintendo, Capcom, Bandai Namco, Ubisoft, and Take-Two Interactive. (Sony PlayStation is once again skipping this year’s event.)

E3 2021 will be held from Saturday, June 11 to Tuesday, June 15. The four-day event will be hosted by Alex “Goldenboy” Mendez, Jacki Jing and Greg Miller, and will also feature industry panel discussions as well as celebrity appearances. You can check out a list of E3 panels here.

E3 2021 Games

There are plenty of games fans are hoping to see this year: the long-rumored GTA 6 and BioShock 4, Elden Ring, Elder Scrolls VI, Hogwarts Legacy, Final Fantasy XVI, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. E3 2021 Tickets and Registration

Good news! Unlike past years, the all-virtual E3 2021 is completely free to the public. That means you won’t be missing out on any E3 events because of a paywall. That said, attendees still have the option to register for the digital convention for a few additional perks:

Select Exhibitor Booths – Featuring special events, VOD content and articles, exhibitor booths will act as hubs within the portal for key announcements and game or product information tied to participating exhibitors (the full list of exhibitors with virtual booths can be found on the E3 website)

Lounges – Online gathering spots for all E3 attendees

Forums – Special boards for focused online discussion and sharing among attendees

Leaderboards – Gamified elements that can be collected and displayed, encouraging fans to interact in as many ways as possible

Profile Creation – All attendees can create and customize their own unique profiles

E3 2021 Leaks

Not all surprises can stay a secret ahead of E3. In fact, leaks are one of E3’s oldest traditions, and 2021 hasn’t disappointed. Ahead of the show, we’ve already learned about a few things that are either going to be announced at the show or at a later date.

The biggest leak of all is the Nintendo Switch Pro, of course. It’s the long-rumored hardware upgrade for Nintendo’s beloved home-and-handheld console hybrid. According to reports, the Switch Pro will allegedly post a 4K-ready OLED screen from Samsung as well as a new graphics chip. While Nintendo has yet to officially confirm that such an upgrade exists, Bloomberg suggests that the console could ship as soon as July, with a planned launch date in September. If the reports are true, that means Nintendo will need to make an announcement VERY soon. Like at its E3 conference on Tuesday…

A new Final Fantasy game from Team Ninja is also said to be in development! It’s called Final Fantasy Origin and it’s reportedly an Action RPG take on the series set in the same timeline as the original Final Fantasy for NES. And that’s not all Square Enix is allegedly bringing to the table. The publisher could also be about to announce the new Guardians of the Galaxy game Eidos Montreal has been quietly working on for the past few years.

Meanwhile, a report from VGC claims that Activision doesn’t plan to announce this year’s installment of Call of Duty. Instead, the publisher will unveil the game as its own special event. Unfortunately, the game may have already leaked. It’s called Call of Duty: Vanguard and is set in World War II!

E3 2021 Predictions

If it’s predictions and wild speculation you want, we have a few theories as to what fans should expect at E3 2021. Just to name a few:

We predict Starfield will be a major part of the Xbox/Bethesda conference on Sunday. We’ll not only get a new trailer (possibly with some gameplay) but also confirmation that the new space RPG from Bethesda Game Studios is an Xbox Series X/S exclusive launching on Xbox Game Pass on Day 1. PlayStation fans, prepare yourselves.

Speaking of Xbox, E3 2021 will Halo Infinite‘s big chance to redeem itself after a subpar showing at an Xbox event last year. And we think 343 Industries is going to pull it off, showing us a graphically stunning gameplay trailer that looks much closer to how a next-gen Halo title should look. They’ll show multiplayer mode, too!

What else will we see? BioShock 4, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, and more! (We won’t get Metroid Prime 4 or Half-Life 3, though).
