Summary: Idia confesses his love to you.

A/N: Third one shot finished! I was very sick with a summer cold while I wrote this so I hope everything makes sense. I also got very carried away with the banter and so I had to cut some dialogue to keep it to my desired work length. I hope someday I can share those deleted scenes with you all~!

Confessions series: Rook, Kalim, Idia, Floyd, Vil, Silver, Leona, Trey / AO3

Your steps hit the pale marble flooring with singular purpose. Their crisp echoes spin away from your feet, only to ricochet off of towering columns and scatter up towards a vaulted ceiling. The hallways of Ignihyde are empty and bright, lit up by informational monitors and the mysterious hum of technomancy. The air inside the dormitory is pleasantly cool and feels almost sterilized with its lack of scent. You stride past countless rooms, ignoring the few rare muffled conversations that seep out from under the occasional door.

You stop at a door identical to every other door you’ve passed so far. Reaching out, you briskly knock on the door and announce, “Idia! Open up! I’ve got an emergency!”

A few beats of silence tick by before you hear the sound of reluctant, shuffling feet moving towards you. The door slowly creaks open, just barely wide enough for a single, morose yellow eye and one half of a radiantly pale face to peer out at you.

Wordlessly, you hold up your smartphone for Idia to see. Its current state could be best described in just one word: annihilated.

Idia swings the door open completely and stares down at the remains of your phone in abject horror, sputtering, “What the-! How-? What were you trying to do?! Vaporize your phone or something?!”

Handing over your former communication device, you step into the room and tiredly reply, “Several crucial mistakes were made today. Can you fix it?”

Idia’s face breaks into a wide, smug grin. He closes the bedroom door with a prideful scoff and boasts, “Like that’s even a question. Can I fix it? That’s undeniable! Too EZ. I could fix something like this with both eyes closed and my hands behind my back!”

You make your way over towards a tall bookshelf on the far side of the room and grin back at him, “Well that’s good news for me then! I’ll be over here perusing your manga collection while you get to work.”

Idia sighs wearily as he sets himself down in front of a worktable covered in various tools and hardware. “So business as usual I guess,” he mutters gloomily but from the corner of your eye, you manage to catch sight of the smallest of smiles flashing across his face.

As Idia sets up the necessary materials and begins his assignment, you trace your finger down the length of the bookshelf, scanning titles and making future reading selections. An interestingly named one catches your eye and you carefully retrieve it from its place on the shelf. With today’s selection in hand, you amble over to Idia’s worktable, seat yourself in a comfortable chair next to his, and begin reading.

Several minutes of easy silence pass by, periodically punctuated by the ambient sounds of lightly clicking repair work and the soft turning of pages. The two of you continue your parallel activities in this way for a few more minutes before you suddenly hear a short, quiet laugh from Idia.

You glance up curiously from your reading and ask, “Something funny?”

Idia does not stop or look up from his task but he smiles softly. He admits in a slightly bemused voice, “I was just thinking that this feels nice. This familiar scene, with you reading next to me while I work on a project. I never thought I'd get so comfortable with you barging into my room whenever you wanted."

You raise your eyebrows playfully and ask in a gently teasing tone, “Oh? So does that mean you used to feel uncomfortable with my visits?”

Idia turns his head to face you with an exaggerated look of retroactive disbelief and exclaims, “Understatement of the century! I was definitely super uncomfortable with your interruptions in the beginning and I believe I distinctly remember telling you to never come back on several separate occasions.”

“Yeah but you let me back in every single time afterwards,” you quip back with a self-satisfied grin.

“Well, of course. You wanted to read my manga,” Idia states frankly as he turns back to his work. “I don’t lend out my books to people I don’t know super well. If I don’t know your reading style, then reading my books requires my direct supervision!”

“Well you know my reading style now,” you say gesturing broadly to the careful and considerate way you hold the book you are currently reading. “Do you trust me enough to lend me a book now?”

Idia seems to suddenly freeze at the sound of your last question. With a hand poised elegantly in the air, clutching a small tool, he would look every bit like a beautiful statue if it weren’t for the slight flickering movement of his soft blue hair. Turning with almost excruciating slowness, he takes the book from your hands in a gentle and deliberate action and grabs a nearby bookmark to place inside before finally closing and placing it face down on the table.

Idia turns his chair so that his body is completely facing you but his eyes are cast down and to the side, still on the book. A breath of silence passes between the two of you before he finally speaks in a carefully measured voice.

"I do trust you. I completely and utterly trust you. But I'll never lend you any of my books because I want you to keep reading them here next to me."

Idia turns his head and looks into your eyes. There’s still the ever present, tired hesitation weighing down his brows, but you see something else in his face, never seen before. In his bright yellow eyes shines a fiery determination, fueled by newly realized desire.

You gaze silently into Idia’s eyes, almost hypnotized. An eternity seems to pass by in seconds like this until Idia suddenly throws his pale, thin hands over his face. You blink rapidly in surprise at the abrupt end to the moment. With fingers pressed tightly against his face, Idia’s voice comes out muffled and anxious.

“I need to tell you something really important but it might be kinda cringe? And I don’t think I have the nerve to say it out loud with you looking at me so can you please close your eyes? And also can you promise not to laugh at anything I say?”

Even though Idia can’t see you with his hands completely covering his face, you smile softly at him and state in a reassuring voice, “I promise not to laugh and I’ll close my eyes.”

With your eyes closed tight, you listen to the faint rustling of his clothes as he hesitantly lowers his arms and you hear the slight creaking of his chair, as if he is leaning himself towards you. Suddenly, you feel an ambient warmth on the side of your face and realize Idia has moved in closer to whisper into your ear. A faint feeling like feather softness swipes over your cheek and you think it must be some of Idia’s hair, flickering luxuriously against your skin like incense smoke. When he finally speaks, his voice is a low murmur against your ear.

"When I leave my room, all the whispers I hear behind my back and the stares I see from the corner of my eye... It's like harsh noise and screeching static to me. It’s overwhelming,”

Idia’s voice drops even quieter and you can almost feel his soft breath on your face as he draws a little closer, "But when I'm with you everything goes quiet. When I'm with you I feel safe."

For a few moments, the only sound in the room is the sound of the two of you breathing. The soft sound of air falling up and down weaves over and onto itself almost like calming music. Then Idia lets out a shuddering sigh, the air from his lips brushing over your skin like cool silk, and the silence melts away under his low voice.

"I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Thinking about you. When I open my eyes in the morning, I immediately think of you. When I close my eyes at night, it's your face I see. I think what this all must mean, what I’ve just now realized, is that I love you."

Your eyes fly open in surprise and you whip your head to the side to look at Idia, acting purely on instinct. His face is so close to yours, the tip of his nose almost brushes against yours. His eyes grow wide and bright from shock but he doesn’t pull away from you. Idia opens his mouth but all that comes out is a kind of strangled gasp. You read the question he can’t seem to ask, written all over his pale and unquiet face.

“Do you love me too?”

Sup3rmärķets (TESCO, Aldi, Lidl etc): easy pickings, great for beginners. often LP and beeping gates. cart walk outs are quite difficult because they tend to have the exits blocked off to only if u buy stuff 🏋‍♂️

br@ndy mel1ll (covent garden): mayhem. so busy. workers dont even care so do it on shop floor because they THOROUGHLY check changing rooms. they have LP. nothing is tagged so just sneak it in your shopping bag.

gl0ss13r: impossible because all items u have to ask staff to get from the back. only stuff out is testers and alot of LP. dont even try.

bandai namco camden store: quite easy got so much japanese stationery and figures. the figures were tagged but the alarms didnt go off. got at least 100 in there and staff didnt give a damn! sleeve conceal most and hust drop in bag for rest (i was beeping in other shops LOL)

muji: quite easy, some lp and stationery is just a sleeve conceal!

Sûp3rdrug and Bóöts: multiple LP on medium alert but SUPERSUPERR easy as long as u conceal in a blind spot. my first lift was here 😭👍 sleeve conceal for small items like lipsticks and eyeliner but i like to kneel and pretend to look at products then shove one in my tote for bigger items like shampoos and hair gels!

ĥ&M: easy. most cheap clothes aren't tagged and fitting rooms are only monitered on busy weekends. staff are pretty chill.

Prîmãrk: slightly chill staff, tons of LP and fitting rooms HIGHLY monitored. they search through clothes super thoroughly and will get mad if u try to hide anything. however, their makeups accessories are sooo easy great for beginners.

Süp3rdrỳ: all clothes is tagged, multiple LP around the store and unmonitored fitting rooms but the fitting rooms tend to be near the checkout. only lifted once from here because its not normally busy but staff was definetly suspicious of me. dont reccomend for newbies.

TTRPG WIP Tagged Post!

Soooooo in this post, I'll talk a lil bit on what I have cooking in the metaphorical game-making oven! I'll aslo give them a percent of their completion!

1. GRIM, a Quake-inspired TTRPG (95%, 24 pages)

Quake is a game I have recently fallen in love with, and GRIM reflects that love superbly. In its fast, brutal, and accessible combat, it emulates what it feels like to run through fleshy castles and sci-fi facilities.

GRIM is very similar to another game I made that was inspired by Doom called MOURN, and like it, it uses coin flips as the "check" system, and multiples of 5 to calculate damage so that mathing won't math as hard.

GRIM is my favorite game I have worked on, and I even commissioned a theme by Eric Castiglia to be made that will be published on my YouTube channel TODAY (8/11/23) at 1pm EST, so stay tuned 0.0

2. The Warrior's Poet (60%, mid-sized)

This will be my first ever solo game, and it focuses on the relationship between a Champion and their Poet. In this game, you will journal and chronicle your journeys with rolls of a d20 to determine what situation has arisen, and then, at the end of each act, you will write a stanza of a poem that reflects these recent happenings! Your Champion can also die if they are not careful, so be sure to chronicle your journeys well!

I am going to release the game in two acts per game, and then if enough interest is gained, I'll make it into more! This is mainly just a test on how to do these games, however!

3. Welcome to Castordale! (30%, mid-sized)

Ez pz explanation. You are beavers, trying to build a home and community with tools, technology, and friendship. it has no combat, and is more of a Stardew Valley experience than a DnD experience. I have the basic plans for the game, as well as some character designs, but I have a lot to work on here!

4. Lil Tiny Experimental Games and Projects

Every month or so I release a small, experimental game that kinda just pops out of nowhere. I have tons of ideas (if u steal at least credit me), so I'll list them here!

Happy to help if I can! That's a great find.

If you're looking to totally remove the current finish and start fresh, you have a couple choices: chemical woodstripper, or sanding. If you have lots of ornate tiny detail that can't be sanded, chemical stripper is really your best choice, but with the construction of this piece, sanding would not be too difficult either. Chemical stripper (Citristrip and EZ Strip are popular choices) is theoretically less work, but you'll need somewhere with good ventilation to set up while the stripper does its job. Sanding this doesn't look super hard either, especially if you invested in a power sander. Even a small one like this detail sander would make your life easier.

Once you're down to bare wood, you can modify, repair, and replace as needed.

To a degree, you CAN unwarp wood, and you can even do it with a clothing iron and damp towel! Just lay the damp cloth on the wood, iron it to work moisture and heat in, and flex the wood back into the right shape and clamp it there to dry.

You can get replacement drawer slides at most hardware stores, and you could even replace all of them to be soft close if you wanted. Finding true vintage hardware is tough, and if you're aiming for functionality, then replacement slides will likely be best.

You can close that gap with a little piece of decorative trim--usually there's a small selection at most hardware stores. Just glue it in place and maybe add a nail or two for stability. Some of the worn spots could be touched up with wood filler, but for bigger gouges you might have to make a replacement piece. And if you want to extend the drawer boxes, you can just cut wood that fits inside the current drawer box, and glue/nail them in place to secure them, no fancy joinery needed. This would also reinforce your drawers!

And then you can stain and reassemble!

Tools you'll want:

A good set of clamps, including right-angle clamps and a set of clamps that are long enough for the whole drawer

Sandpaper, in a range of grits; a small sander if you can afford one

A decent hand saw with a miter box--almost everything you want to add is likely to only be 1/4 in thick, so it's easily doable without power tools

Have you got any advice for places to learn about restoring furniture?

I've done a little bit of it, many years ago, but there's so much I don't know. (How does one find out which varnishes and such are best when there's such an overwhelming selection at the hardware store??)

I just got back from an estate sale where I got a beautiful and slightly decrepit hardwood filing cabinet for $20! I also have a couple of antique chairs that need attention, but not till late spring when it's warm enough to sand things outside.

A decent wood conditioner will get you surprisingly far, but it depends on the kind of damage! Do you have pictures?

Genuinely these past two weeks have been interesting being mentored but also, wow, for an event that’s supposed to be all positive reinforcement it really felt like I’ve been attending a Koehler workshop.

You guys don’t understand. There was not a prong collar or leash pop in sight. Most dogs are on flat collars, martengales, or back clipping harnesses. Very few in an EZ walk and non in a halti. But there was. So much. PRESSURE. I personally would never train any of my dogs like this and I am more than willing to use aversives if I think the situation calls for it.

So your initial samples of class were pretty standard fare pet store training 101- and then we take a hard swerve straight into coercion so hard that it super turned me off for like. The entire rest of the classes. And most of it’s not in the newbie trainers book so that means that this guy learned it from someone else (he did, he attended ABC way back when it first opened). Like, okay.

So the dogs are required to sit at heel on week 3 of puppy class. The way it’s taught by this guy is to pull the puppy by the leash back all the way to basic position, ask for a sit, give a treat... and then wait. And if the puppy gets up, to pull the puppy back into position and then hold them tight there until the only option is to sit again, loosen the leash, and wait for them to do it again. And once you’ve hit whatever pre-ordained amount of time you wanted the puppy to sit at heel, you release them and then? Don’t give them a treat? Because “they worked for YOU, not for the food”. WTF???

Stay is taught- literally INTRODUCED- as sit at heel, stay command, walk two steps away from dog, call dog to front, sit at front, reward- EXCEPT no treat reward allowed because, once again, “they did that for YOU not for the treat”. INTRODUCED. No stays for a few seconds right in front of the dog. No, you do allllll that shit as you introduce the concept of stay to your dog. And if they don’t do it right you just drag them back into heel position and start again.

Honestly at some point early on in the mentorship I was basically like bro I respect that you’ve been doing this for 2/3s of the time I’ve been alive but also. I would not train this way and do not train this way and the book itself does not tell me to train this way. And he was like yeah every trainer’s a little different, the dogs learn it and that’s good enough for me. BRUH.

I just. It really looked like someone who had been trained some of the oldschool force methods and then was just suddenly told that he couldn’t use certain tools and movements anymore. Everything about him working with the dogs was just so confrontational and so much pressure. I can’t deny it works, and he makes a lot of money doing what he does, but hoo boy, I would absolutely not train like that pretty much ever. Know better, do better, you know? I’m glad that he respected that I had a much different approach and outlook on things with results he could literally see, but I really was very uncomfortable throughout all of that.

This BTW is what I mean when I say that even with all these certifications and programs there’s no consistency to what any of them mean as far as a trainer’s skill or what they do with the dog. This guy went to post-secondary learning, uses positive reinforcement, and is certified through CPDT and trains like that. My other pet store mentor way back when has the same qualifications on paper and trains significantly differently. Someone I used to date has the same qualifications on paper and trains significantly differently than the other two. These qualifications don’t mean anything! All they mean is that someone paid a bunch of money to be able to claim they know what they’re doing. All of these trainers are vastly different in style, method, and approach, but this is the first time I’ve effectively seen positive reinforcement with coercion so heavy it made me uncomfortable.

bre boys and picking their kid up early from school cause they’re “sick”

Billy Russo: Billy takes your kid to Anvil. They sit and play and hang out with Billy and the trainers. It’s super cute because he lets them sit at his desk and when he’s on the phone, he has your kid in his lap, who listens intently and takes notes. Billy doesn’t make them do any of their schoolwork that day, instead, they just hang out until it’s time to go home. They pick up a pizza for dinner on the way back to the house, and surprise you with ice cream as well. 

Logan Delos: “Daddy, I’m sick.” “Are you really sick or do you just not want to be at school today?” “...the second one.” “Okay, sweetheart, I’m on my way.” Logan drops everything and gets your kid, no question about it. They just go home and hang out, watching Disney movies and snacking, and Logan will sit and listen as your kid talks about school and their teachers and classmates. The next day, when they’re getting up in the morning, they’re more than ready to start the day now that they had a chance to recharge with Dad. 

Jax Teller: Jax knows how much your kid loves when he shows up on his bike, so that’s what he does. They go to the clubhouse, and Jax will have Gemma make them lunch, and then your kid will get an extra big work shirt from the back and work with Jax in the garage, handing him tools and keeping him company. If the job is too big for a kid, Jax will have them read a storybook outloud to him and whoever else is working. And even though they’re not in school that day, your kid still learns alot. 

Coco Cruz: The first thing Coco does after picking your kid up is get them something sweet: ice cream, cookies, brownies--they get to pick. Then they go home and just hang out, playing video games and watching TV. If they have to go to the clubhouse (which your kid LOVES), they have no shortage of fun things to do. Your kid particularly likes going in the cage and “fighting” Uncle Angel, who always dramatically loses. They usually end up falling asleep in the back, and Coco gently wakes them up and takes them home. 

Angel Reyes: Angel doesn’t always have his phone on him, but EZ does, and since he and Felipe are your kid’s emergency contacts at school, one of them usually has to tell Angel the school called. Angel loves when your kid wants to leave school early because that means they can hang out all day. He takes them to the clubhouse and they sit on everyone’s motorcycle and pretend to ride while Angel works. Rumor has it that even Bishop indulges your kid, and he lets them play with the gavel! Angel loves having your kid with him, and would do this every day if not for, you know...school. Summers are lit, though!

Miguel Galindo: Miguel sends Nestor to pick up your kid if he himself can’t do it at the moment. But once the kid is with him, Miguel is dropping everything. He’s playing with toys, he’s watching terrible cartoons, he’s ordering chicken tenders and fries--whatever they want to do, Miguel is doing it. If he absolutely can’t get out of work for a while, he’ll make a little section in his office for your kid to play or read or watch TV until Miguel is free again. Callum chuckled “Yeah, it’s true.” He smiled and brought her hand up to place a kiss on it. “The world has changed so much, but somethings, the people you love, they stay the same. Like how amazing you are for example.”  

As always his words warmed Rayla’s heart but when he leaned in to kiss her she wiped her head back up to the sky when she saw the aerial duo heading into a tower, grazing it and thankfully not smacking into it full force. “Oye!!! EZ!!! TOWER!!!!” Rayla screamed up at the teen.

“WE’RE OK!” He yelled down and waved, Zym nodded in agreement. 

“DON’T BREAK YOUR NECK! I WILL BE SO PISSED!” Callum screamed back. Some of the color drained from his face. “PAY BETTER ATTENTION!” He looked like he was ready to go all mage wings and bring his brother down himself.

Amaya also looked distressed. Frustrated she wasn’t able to scream after him she nudged Janai to make girlfriend do it for her. Even Bait had turned purple. 

“Teenagers are stupid” Rayla sighed. 

“Hey, we weren't... technically still aren’t” Callum defended. 

“Seriously? We’re just lucky our bullshit paid off” She laughed “I climbed the side of that” She pointed “wall. Thinkin’ I could kill a child in cold blood, almost fell to mah death about three times doin’ it. And you kept playin’ with lightnin’ even though you din’ know what you were doin’, nearly killed me I might add!” 

He chucked “But I didn’t kill you! So it’s fine.”

“Oh you’re right, that makes everythin’ fine. Wasn’t stupid at all.”  

He pouted at her sarcasm but then narrowed his eyes at her “Human Rayla”.

“Don’ go there! I was amazin’ at that! How about Elf Callum or WiNtEr LoDgE, nO wInTeR, nO hUmAnS?”

She laughed “Aww you’re less stupid now” she cood and he continued to glare back at her. But held her hand anyway. She squeezed it “Like I said, lucky. Our stupidity might save the world.” 

He wrapped his arm around her shoulder and they continued to nervously watch the air show, screaming every time the teens tried to do barrel rolls and loops. The March day was cooled by the breeze but warmed by the sun, winter was truly at its end and the group enjoyed welcoming the spring.

Soon it was 3rd dessert meal (second lunch?) and the group had it out in one of the courtyards as a picnic. This was the planned time for presents and so everyone had their wrapped packages or hidden gifts with them. Apparently, hand made was a theme. After all, what do you buy for a king? Callum was also miffed that Soren had made an art project, he muttered into her ear “art is my thing!” She laughed and rolled her eye’s at him. Her fiance’s gift was of extremely better quality, so if it was a competition he still won, but if cake counts as art Rayla thought this could be a very close race. Callum had done a detailed color pencil drawing and had it framed, it was a family portrait. Ezran sat in the front and Rayla and Callum stood behind him, each with a hand on his shoulder and Bait was in his lap of course.
