@sunflowersansa, #catelyn was raised to be hosters successor for almost a decade wasnt she?
the annoying thing is we don't have an approximate age for edmure, nor any age for cat when minisa died (in childbirth with a last, stillborn son, not edmure). i've seen fanart depicting him as anywhere from a toddler to a younger teen/tween when catelyn and lysa were teenagers. but i feel pretty confident in my estimation of ~7/8yrs age difference between eldest sister and baby brother, and not just bc of symmetry with the next generation. my reasoning is thus:
we all assume catelyn had some grooming as an heiress, rather than it just being a nominal status in early childhood. how much training can one really give a 3 or 4yo, y'know? we know rickon never had any manly lord lessons from ned since he was still so young when they parted. if she was closer to 7 or 8 when edmure came along, that leaves more realistic time for education, and a sizable number of years with only daughters for hoster to try to accustom himself to lack of a son and make do accordingly. even only 1 or 2 years of rulership lessons would still matter when minisa's death left hoster more dependent on her as not just hostess but later a trusted confidant of a sort until she got married.
ned thinks of edmure as "the boy" in his pov when hearing of the mountain's first attacks in the riverlands. we know ned's not great with keeping up with ageing from his earlier comments about tommen, and he surely hasn't seen edmure in many years, but this tells me that when they did meet at riverrun, edmure was not that close in age to himself, catelyn, and lysa. (i think it's less likely to see someone as frozen in childhood if they're anywhere near your age cohort.) ned could still be wrong about edmure's age thinking he couldn't possibly be at least 25 and any green knight younger than that was still a boy or youth, but that miscalculation makes more sense to me if he was around ~26 rather than a fellow thirtysomething or a guy pushing thirty.
we also know that edmure acted as brandon's squire in his duel with littlefinger, which i read as more someone playacting at some squirely practice when not yet consideed old enough to be anyone's assigned squire, with the informal nature of the duel which meant lightly-armored littlefinger having no squire of his own, and brandon having an actual squire who likely could have been present. so that lines up with a ~10yo edmure to 15yo littlefinger, 16yo lysa, 18yo catelyn, and 20yo brandon. (this is admittedly the most subjective point and i wouldn't consider it strong evidence if not consistent with the rest.)
catelyn doubted her memories of her mother, including her appearence, which in this world strangely devoid of portraits, still makes me think she was quite young when they lost her. so, yeah, not a large gap between edmure's birth and minisa's death in her next childbirth. if catelyn was 8/9 or even 10 when her mother died and she became de facto lady of riverrun, that could line up with the lannister twins losing their mother at 7 and not having strong memories of joanna.
idt catelyn really did think of riverrun as her birthright when her brief time as conscious heiress was a small fraction of her life, with at least 6yrs knowing she'd move away to be lady (consort) of winterfell instead and the rest of her life living out that responsibility as northern wife and mother. but it must still sting to be used to such a position of importance in her earlier time in riverrun and have no real authority when she returned to live there again as an adult, especially when edmure still seemed to act (to her) like the baby of the family not entirely matured into the authority he held all for himself. there's a part in her time in renly's camp when she thought robb was years younger but still knew what he was doing more than the southern king and his knights of summer playing at war. i'd imagine a simaliar feeling whenever edmure annoyed her. that's another difference between robb and edmure, that robb was a dutiful eldest sibling like his mother, formerly catelyn's baby but never anyone's baby brother. while edmure, even if he was (my by headcanon) a few years older than renly and unlike renly was meant to be a male heir from birth, was still a youngest child of 3 like renly.

On Gendry's age
Today I read this in the tags of a post I reblogged:
Tumblr media
@sunflowersansa I generally agree with the rest but I felt a bit called out on this point as a Gendrya shipper. Short answer: No, Gendry is not older than Jon and Robb.
Many fans have a somewhat out of phase perception of this, in my opinion it's because they have in mind the image of Joe Dempsie who is 10 years older than Maisie Williams (and this is very evident in the first seasons).
This is the generally accepted timeline of events that Gendry is one year younger than Jon and Robb, Dany's age, and four years older than Arya:
Tumblr media
The wiki does this calculation taking into account the observations of Ned, Arya and Brienne, but these are only hypotheses of the characters, Gendry does not confirm it (provided that he knows how old he is). Also right after the thought of Ned, Thobo interrupts to tell him that the lad is strong for is age, so I think we can assume thet he look older than he is.
At the end we don't know how old Gendry is. According to the most generally accepted calculation of dates he should have been 13 in the first book. Gendry can easily be at least a year younger than that since Robert could not enter the capital until the end of 283. Perhaps Gendry was a child of the celebrations for the victory of the Rebellion. In my head I usually place him around Joff's age.
Having said that I love this ship but I don't expect or don't want anything explicit to happen between them while they are so young. That doesn't mean I don't hope for a hug after their reunion, or maybe holding hands. If their story ends with Arya's first consensual kiss, my lil' shipper heart will be more than happy.
In the end I think that within Arya's story Gendry's role is mainly to contribute to her reflection on the concept of injustice and classism as well as giving her a companion to interact with. Gendry's journey parallels Arya's in many ways.
Forgive me, the original post had little to do with this thing, but I wanted to write my thoughts about this.

Such thoughtful tags @sunflowersansa
The problem with Daenerys is that she sees issues from a purely black-and-white perspective. She stops Mirri from being raped and acts as if that’s the complete solution to her problem. Daenerys acts as her savior and insinuates that the rape victim she “saved” much be grateful. However, upon having her people murdered and ravaged, Mirri tries to get back at Drogo. But she doesn’t even really contribute to his death, as we know that Drogo died of his own infection that he refused to treat (he also refused to follow Mirri‘s advice on how to treat it). Sure, she apparently kills Daenerys’s infant, but I doubt that’s even true. Mirri explicitly announces that no one must enter the tent while she’s performing her magic. Yet Jorah and Daenerys enter anyway.
And even if this isn’t true, Daenerys herself believes that Jorah killed her son since he didn’t listen to Mirri and took her into the tent, yet it is Mirri she burns alive.
Ser Jorah had killed her son, Dany knew. He had done what he did for love and loyalty, yet he had carried her into a place no living man should go and fed her baby to the darkness. He knew it too; the grey face, the hollow eyes, the limp. “The shadows have touched you too, Ser Jorah,” she told him. The knight made no reply. (AGOT, Daenerys IX)
You know, you're right that there's a distinct pattern of misapplying or refusing to accept guilt when it suits her. While her feelings may be alleviated by "saving" people,
"She will do no harm." Dany felt she could trust this old, plain-faced woman with her flat nose; she had saved her from the hard hands of her rapers, after all. (AGOT, Daenerys VII)
Perhaps Dany needs to reconsider what put them in that position in the first place, and whether it might actually have been Drogo and her choices, her war, that ruined their life,
"Saved me?" The Lhazareen woman spat. "Three riders had taken me, not as a man takes a woman but from behind, as a dog takes a bitch. The fourth was in me when you rode past. How then did you save me? I saw my god's house burn, where I had healed good men beyond counting. My home they burned as well, and in the street I saw piles of heads. I saw the head of a baker who made my bread. I saw the head of a boy I had saved from deadeye fever, only three moons past. I heard children crying as the riders drove them off with their whips. Tell me again what you saved." "Your life." (AGOT, Daenerys IX)
And I think the reader should be alarmed that while Dany thinks she's saved a life here, she promptly turns around and takes it:
"You will not hear me scream," Mirri responded as the oil dripped from her hair and soaked her clothing. "I will," Dany said, "but it is not your screams I want, only your life. (AGOT, Daenerys X)
I suppose this is similar to her freeing people but the situation being so bad they’re desperate enough to want to sell themselves back into slavery and instead of that being a wake up call about the results of her choices, telling Dany she hasn’t done what she thinks she’s done, Dany decides to take a cut, to profit off of their suffering.

i’m a mix of aegon and aemond.
i like to party, lol. i feel like my efforts are not enough for the expectations of my family. i am my mother’s oldest (and only) child. if anything, i am *very* resilient, and i will survive and thrive out of spite if anything. i dreamt of running away when i was younger but now i accept my responsibilities. people often think my problems are menial compared to ‘real’ ones. i feel very connected to dionysus, both his hedonistic and death/rebirth aspects. i had a beloved pet and i’ve never been the same since he passed.
i’m a burned out gifted child, and like history and philosophy (lol) a lot. i also have poor sight and had a severe surgery (nose not eye but 🤷🏻‍♀️) as a child. i am indeed prone to anger and evasion. i try to be a good daughter, kind of trying to be recognized as much as my older siblings. i often fall in love with older, ‘dangerous’ people. i keep a blue kyanite in my pockets. i connect to ares a lot, and carry a little multitool knife. my birth chart is full of fire placements.
i am a ‘second wife’ child too, so i feel that separation between me and my half siblings.
tagging everyone who wants to participate! especial shout out to @mejcinta @radicalsansa @sunflowersansa @dirtytransmasc @thattargboy @prodogg @lullaebies @ai-megurine @friendly-stardust (based solely on what usernames are at the top of my head rn 😵‍💫 no pressure ofc)
Everyone is a green kid combination.
Me? I'm Helaena+Aemond
I'm soft-spoken, my parents often scream like "i didn't understood a word you said", I often let them hug me for 1 second before I take their arms away from me, we don't do hugs your honor, or physical affection, ew.
I am the sibling good at everything, and it sucks sometimes because people really expect many things from you, I am the older child, however. I also like to fuck up greatly, I just never god rid of some kid, but I would fight God and believe I can win too.
And you guys are a mix of what?

#ned only cared about honour so much bc he was raised by JON ARRYN lmaoo#traditional northern values are pretty ruthless#modern starks are just arryns and tullys who are loyal to the north ( @sunflowersansa )
The starklings are partly who they are because of their mother. The tully values (family, duty, honor) and catelyns religion and culture, shaped the starklings and the things they got from their mother helped them to survive just as much as their “starkness” did. I’m tired of that being erased. I’m tired of this whole “true stark through and through” bullshit. I’m tired of their northern values being thought of as superior when their fans don’t acknowledge their southern values and the importance of their tully heritage. As my angel Arya put it “the woman is important too!” And their tully side matters just as much as their stark side.
