You were just a child. You were young and you were vulnerable. You weren’t supposed to protect yourself…you were supposed to be protected.

It was never your responsibility to take care of the adults in your life or keep them on the right track. Your only job was to be a kid.

You weren’t supposed to see that coming. Someone else was supposed to be watching out for you.

You didn’t drop the ball because it was never yours to carry. Release the guilt. Let go of the shame. Let yourself off the hook.

Don’t let the enemy imprison you for one more day. Look in the mirror, smile at the little child who’s peering out from behind your adult eyes, and tell them it’s okay.

Forgive yourself for not knowing what you couldn’t know and for not doing what you couldn’t do.
