Twenty-five days.
Suna Rintarou swears he isn’t keeping track, but his stupid brain screams the number at him. It’s been twenty-five days of torture - his mind plagued with thoughts of wanting to kiss you.
Kiss you, kiss you, kiss you, kiss you, kiss you.
He’s had the urge in the past but all of those times were out of the haze of sexual intimacy. His current dilemma, which began 25 days ago, is something else.
It had been a mundane Saturday morning. The kids were already up and engrossed in the TV show they both loved so much. Suna was in the kitchen, trying to be of help as you prepared breakfast.
The menu for that day was sunny side-ups paired with hotdogs. You were trying to show him how to perfectly crack eggs open when he moved to stand beside you to look closer. Your hand slipped, spoon cracking against the egg and he laughed. You moved to chastise him and in turn, the egg white from the cracked shell plopped against him.
With widened eyes, you gasped and then, backed with a barely contained giggle, apologized to him. The sound of your laughter was sweet and the way your eyes turned into little crescents tugged at Suna’s heart.
At that moment, he badly wanted to kiss you - to feel your laughter through your lips.
Now, he finds himself at the balcony of your bedroom, eyes turned towards the moonless sky with a lollipop in his mouth. Through the open door, he can hear the faint sound of the shower and he groans, urging his mind to not stray towards other thoughts.
He feels foolish with these emotions that you’re bringing out of him. Granted, they’re not unfamiliar, but it’s been several years since he’s had these feelings. And truth be told, Suna never thought he’d feel this way again: wanting to love someone.
He knows what he’s feeling for you is more than just platonic. But Suna is also pretty sure that he isn’t in love with you.
Yet.
“Rin?” Your voice breaks him out of his thoughts. “Would you mind closing the door? The breeze is coming through.” He sees that you’re now done with your shower, robe wrapped around your body with a towel in your hand.
He bites off the remaining lollipop and chucks the stick at the small bin by the balcony. Shortly after, he joins you in the room but not before making sure the door is securely locked behind him.
The smell of your green-apple hair conditioner hits him almost immediately. It’s a scent he has ignored for years but now that he’s free from his pride to admire every little thing about you, he basks in the scent. He then makes his way to the vanity. “Do you need help drying your hair off?”
Your curious eyes meet his through the mirror and after a few slow blinks, you nod. He takes over the towel and you open a drawer to bring out the dryer.
For a few moments, your eyes watch him work with the towel, gently squeezing clumps of your hair for the last drops of water possible. Then, before passing the hair-blower to him, you say, “You’re gonna end up with cavities given all the candies and lollipops you’ve been having.”
“They’re working, though,” he replies. “I haven’t smoked in over a month.”
You smile at him. “I’m so proud of you.” And then, as if deciding on what to say next, you add, “I wish there is another alternative so you won’t have to take too much sweets.”
Maybe it’s the proud look on your face. Maybe it’s the way your lips pucker out in a cute pout. Or maybe, he’s just so tired of counting the days.
Finally, Suna says, “What about a kiss?”
The way your eyes immediately widen is almost comical. “W-what?”
Suna only laughs as he takes the hair dryer from you, the brief skin contact making you blush. He shakes his head, smiling. “Nothing.”
“Huh?” you try to turn around so you’re face to face but he places a hand on your shoulder.
“Stay still.”
“But…”
“Y/N. Let’s dry your hair first, okay?”
˚₊⁎⁎⁺˳༚ ˚₊⁎⁎⁺˳༚
Drying one’s hair is supposed to take around five to ten minutes only, but after Rintarou’s question, it feels like it’s taking an hour. It’s not helping that he’s standing so close to you, hands gently drying your hair, warmth radiating from his body.
Once finished, you immediately turn on the seat. “Rin.”
“Y/N.”
The question comes to the tip of your tongue but never leaves your mouth. You bite your lip instead and avoid eye contact. “N-nevermind.”
As you try to stand, Rintarou stops you. “You’re cute when you blush, did you know that?”
You don’t answer, knowing full well that his remark only made your already flushing cheeks redden even more.
Suna sighs before cupping your cheek tenderly, urging you to look at him. Once your eyes meet his, he rubs a gentle circle on your skin. “I want to kiss you.”
It feels like your heart is beating a hundred miles per minute. Did you hear him correctly? He wants to kiss you? Suna Rintarou, the man who never kissed you in the five years you’ve been married? Suna Rintarou, the man who didn’t bother to kiss you on your wedding day?
I want to kiss you.
A lot of things have changed in the past months but still, Suna manages to surprise you. You feel like a teenager navigating romance for the first time again.
Another gentle rub on your cheek brings you back to the present, where Suna is saying he wants to kiss you. “Well? Are you going to allow me to kiss you, Y/N?”
Your only response is a meek nod to which Suna shakes his head. “I want you to say it. Tell me that you want me to kiss you.”
He never once breaks eye contact as he says those words. The urge to look away is so strong, for you feel like the longer you stare into Suna’s eyes, all the emotions inside of you will break out. Burst into a bubble that would consume you. It’s going to be cool, but suffocating.
Instead, your eyes remain on him, trying to decipher if there’s any ill-intentions in them.
You only see sincerity… and pained longing. As if every minute you’re not asking him to kiss you is bringing him immense pain.
But kissing him… it’s going to be a big step in your relationship. Granted, the two of you have been sleeping with each other again. But kissing is an entire thing different from sex. You’ve never kissed during sex before. Kissing him now would mean…
Rin doesn’t speak with words, but the way his thumb grazes your cheek once more tells you that he’s waiting. Finally, you decide to pocket the fears you have about kissing him. “Kiss me, Rin.”
He exhales in relief as he leans down and the distance between your lips get smaller and smaller and smaller and you get the sweet taste of his strawberry lollipop from earlier.

Goodbye, 25 days. Suna thinks to himself that night, as you lay sleeping beside him.
It’s just a kiss, but he can’t stop himself from feeling warm at the memory of your lips against his.
It’s just a kiss, but he feels like he’s on top of the world.
It’s just a kiss, but when he finally falls asleep that night, a stupid smile is on his face.
˚₊⁎⁎⁺˳༚ ˚₊⁎⁎⁺˳༚
In the following days, Suna learns that he has found a new addiction.
Waking up in the morning? A kiss on your lips.
Thanking you after finishing a meal? A kiss on your lips.
Saying goodbye before leaving for work? A kiss on your lips.
Seeing you after arriving at home? A kiss on your lips.
It’s not just even the feeling of your lips against his that makes him addicted to it - he’s also enamored by your reaction every time you kiss.
The way your breath hitches a little as your lips meet, and the soft sigh you let out once you part almost always bring a flood of warmth to his chest.
“Are you going out today or staying home for work?” Since you’ve been getting better, you have started to resume working again.
If it were up to Suna, he wouldn’t want you to work at all. Your current job is not demanding at all, minimal reports needed. He remembers helping you get it five years ago, when you had opened up to him about the missed opportunity after your graduation. Still, he knows you enjoy what little you do at work, so he can’t ask you to leave it.
“I’ll stay in today,” he hears your response. “I’ll visit the office on Friday.”
He makes a mental note to himself. “Okay.” And then, “Do we have any plans this weekend?”
He adjusts the cuffs of his long-sleeved shirt as he hears you hum in contemplation. “Ah! Hajime invited us for Kenta’s birthday party this coming Saturday, right?”
Of course. Suna remembers the conversation two weeks before. He remembers trying to tame the jealousy brewing deep within him as the older man talked to you. He knows he has nothing to be jealous about. You’re just naturally sweet and friendly while Iwaizumi apparently started seeing someone.
“I almost forgot,” he confesses as he approaches you to where you’re lounging at the sofa. You’re currently waiting for your laptop to finish installing its update before you start work. “Do we have a gift already?”
“I actually ordered something but it’s stuck in one of the sorting hubs. If it doesn’t arrive by Friday, maybe we can drop by the mall or something?”
“Okay. I’ll go now, then. See you later.” He crosses the short distance between you, hand already cupping your face as he kisses you goodbye.
And if Suna is smiling while driving on the way to work, thinking about your goodbye kiss, then no one has to know.
˚₊⁎⁎⁺˳༚ ˚₊⁎⁎⁺˳༚
Express delivery, as is turns out, do not always live up to its name. It’s now Friday and the package carrying your gift for Kenta has made no movement from the sorting hub. You’re at your table at work, waiting for Rin to pick you up after you texted him that you would need to drop by the mall first.
The children are at their grandparents since this morning and you’ll be picking them up when you and Rin go to their house for breakfast tomorrow. You look at the picture on your phone. Rintarou is splayed on the bed with the twins all over him. It’s from last weekend, when your kids had come to wake the two of you up.
Your heart is instantly flooded with warmth and joy. You didn’t think it’s going to be possible, but years later, here you are with a happy family despite of the circumstances. You couldn’t ask for more.
The notification on your phone alerts you that Rin is almost at your office building. You bid goodbye to your colleagues. As the door to the elevator begins to close, you see a woman rushing towards it. Luckily, you’re able to press the ‘hold door’ button immediately.
“Thank you,” the woman sighs in relief as she shoots you a grateful, sweet smile. She’s an unfamiliar face, which is not a surprise to you since you rarely visit the office and interact with people outside of your core department.
“No problem,” you reply while mirroring her smile, before turning your gaze ahead.
You’re about to settle on that elevator silence between strangers when the woman speaks. “For a building with over 30 floors, you’d think they have more than three working elevators.”
You hum in agreement. “The ‘under construction’ signs at the other two elevators have been there forever, right?”
“Oh, really? I wouldn’t know.” She lets out a small laugh. “I’ve only been here for two weeks. I’m in a contractual project, actually.”
The elevator doors open and you two walk out, still conversing. “Ah, may I ask what project?”
“Hitomi-chan’s passion project,” the woman replies with a smile. “I’m in-charge of photography.”
You feel foolish only noticing the camera bag slung on her left shoulder. “I see. You must be very good, then. Hitomi knows to pick partners well.”
A sweet laughter spills from her again, her cheeks blushing a little. “You’re too kind…”
“Y/N,” you reply, as you both approach the exit.
The woman extends a hand. “Nice to meet you, Y/N. You can call me Serin.”
“It’s nice to meet you as well, Serin.”
A security staff of the building approaches the two of you. “Your husband’s car just pulled up at the parking area, Mrs. Suna.”
Serin’s grasp on your handshake falters a little. “Oh, you need to go?”
“Yes. See you around the office, Serin.”
She gives you one last smile before waving goodbye. “See you around!”
˚₊⁎⁎⁺˳༚ ˚₊⁎⁎⁺˳༚
You’re only supposed to buy a gift for Kenta but two hours at the mall later, you and Suna are pushing one big cart of shopping carts each. You don’t talk as you navigate the parking space, but the exchange of smiles and grins speaks a lot.
“Why did we buy so much?” You ask as you watch Rin load the bags into the car. “We’re such impulsive buyers, oh god.”
“Hey, don’t feel bad splurging sometimes. We all deserve to spoil ourselves once in a while.”
“Is that why you bought a large fox plushie?” Your voice is laced with teasing. “I didn’t know you’re into stuffed toys.”
Suna loads the last bags before closing the door. “I bought that for you, though.” He takes your hand and leads you to the front passenger seat, opening its door. “And don’t act as if you weren’t looking at it with heart eyes when I showed it to you.”
You make yourself comfortable in the seat. “Sure.”
Suna scoffs playfully before shaking his head as he swats your hand away and puts the belt on you himself. “Okay, you’re never allowed to hold it ever, then.”
You fake gasp. “Really? Then that makes me sad.”
He leans in and kisses against the pout on your lips. “You’re so cute, Y/N,” he says once he pulls away.
“And you’re so silly, Rin.” This time, you’re the one who leans in and pecks his lips. As you’re about to pull away, you feel Suna’s hand on your head before he tries to deepen the kiss.
A small whine leaves your lips and gets swallowed by Suna immediately before he finally pulls away.
“Rin…”
You’re breathing heavily and he’s in no better situation. His eyes have darkened and the way he looks at you makes you squirm on the seat. You avert your gaze. “L-let’s go home.”
It takes him a beat to answer. “Yeah. Okay, sure.” He pulls back, squeezes your upper thigh, and then closes the door for you. You’re still not looking at him when he gets in the driver’s seat and maneuvers the car outside of the parking lot.
Once you’re on the road, one of his hands lets go of the wheel and reaches for you blindly before landing on your thigh. It stays there for a whole minute before you remove it. You lace your fingers together and place it on your lap instead.
Suna hums in contentment as he continues to drive, but not before squeezing your hand. You don’t even notice that he’s driving at the fastest allowable speed limit.

You’re glad that your children are at your in-laws’ house as you hear the incessant and loud creaking sound of the bed, paired with the headboard’s rhythmic slamming against the wall. Rintarou is groaning against your lips as his hips are working overtime in thrusting against yours.
“Fuck,” he whispers before capturing your lips in another frenzied kiss. “You feel so damn good, shit.” He’s heavily breathing and making lots of noise than usual.
You would have called him out for it if you were doing any better. “Ah, Rin, ah… right there.” Your words are cut off as he kisses you again.
Tonight’s sex feels different. It’s not only because it’s the first time you two are kissing during the deed. Right now, it feels as if Rintarou wants to tell you something through his actions.
His unforgiving thrusts continue, the onslaught of pleasure throughout your body unending. You already know you’re going to be sore tomorrow, but you can’t bring yourself to ask him to be less rough. He’s hitting all the right spots and all the sounds that you’re both making are only adding heat to the room.
“It feels like your pussy wants to swallow me whole.” He pulls back slightly so he can see the probably messed up and fucked out expression on your face. “I love the way it pulls me in. Fuck, you’re so tight. Feels so fucking good!”
His words bring you to an unexpected orgasm and you whine with volume. It doesn’t deter him as he continues his hips’ movements. His lips are quick to silence you as he begins to move inside of you faster.
You should probably feel embarrassed with the sloppy, wet noises that your bodies are creating but it just feels so good. Your head is empty and all your mind can do is chant his name repeatedly.
Rintarou. Rin. Rintarou. Rin. Rin. Rintarou. So good.
“Louder,” his word snaps you out of your daze. It’s when you realize that you’re now moaning his name out loud. Ironically, you feel flustered and look away from him.
His hand starts roaming around your body and settles on your left breast before he pinches on the nipple. “Look at me, I want to see you come.”
He guides your face towards him and you two meet eye-to-eye. The room feels too hot but you ignore it, trapped in your bubble of intimacy with your husband. You’re stuck with letting out little whimpers and small exclaims of “ah, ah, ah”s as Rintarou continues to move inside you.
Unlike his earlier kisses, he plants a sweet peck on the side of your lips before pulling back. “Do you feel good? Are you okay?” His voice is now soft, a stark contrast to his rough thrusts.
You can only nod before a gasp of pleasure leaves you again.
He chuckles against your lips before aiming a single hard thrust, forcing a louder moan out of you. “Am I making you feel good, Y/N?”
You nod repeatedly, hands gripping him harder. The dig of your fingers on his skin makes him groan sexily. “Fuck, answer me. Do I feel good inside you, wife?” Another well-aimed thrust.
“Y-yes, yes!” you finally let out. A sniffle. “It’s so good. More please, Rin. I need more.”
Rintarou doesn’t deny you and quickens his pace, giving you what you want.
And everything feels right. This is what things should have been. The both of you giving and taking. The both of you feeling good and taken care of. You and Rintarou. Rintarou and you. Under a happy spell.

The last time you were at a party setting with Hajime, things didn’t end well. However, you feel like today is a good one. For starters, you don’t have the underlying pressure of making sure everything goes smoothly. And to make things better, your husband has not left your side ever since your family arrived at the venue.
Risa and Ryuu are happily playing with all the other kids while you’re at the parents’ table, making small talk with the other guests. An older couple - Hajime’s relatives, you think - comments on how you and Rin look good together.
You thank them, turning to your husband’s shoulder to hide your blush. Instead, you see him smirk teasingly, an arm wrapping around your waist and pulling you closer to him.
The party goes well. Food, games, gift-giving…
Hajime finally sits next to you with a small sigh, the two of you barely exchanging more than a few words within the past hour. “This is tiring but very rewarding.” He’s staring at the direction of his son. “All for Kenta’s happiness.”
As if feeling his father’s eyes on him, the boy turns to your direction and waves, a toothy grin on his face.
“You know, in his earlier years, I only felt resentment towards his mother.” Hajime’s voice is tender. He rarely talks about the mother of his son, her being a touchy subject. “But now, all I feel is gratefulness and pity. I’m thankful because without her, I wouldn’t have Kenta. I pity her, because she’s missing out so much on how wonderful and amazing my son is.”
You can’t say you truly understand what he’s feeling. Still, you acknowledge to yourself that your children do seem to be merrier ever since Rintarou joined the three of you, bonding all the time. “Did she ever try to reach out?”
Hajime shakes his head. “No. And my attempts to talk to her were all futile.” The sad look on his face passes quickly. “You know, Y/N, I never considered dating again. Not until Kenta’s much older. But I’m glad I took the leap recently. She already adores Kenta and he likes her a lot, too.”
You perk up at the mention of his new lover. “I’m glad to hear that. Speaking of, I thought she was coming today?”
“She said she’ll catch up because something came up with the project she’s working on.” Just then, a notification pings on Hajime’s phone. “And now we’ve summoned her. I’ll go meet her at the door.”
You watch as your friend eagerly makes his way through the crowd. It’s then that you decide to go on a powder room break to freshen up. On the way, you bump into your husband who’s returning from the restroom. He tucks a hair behind your ear. “You good?”
You look up at him, smiling. “Yes.” It’s crazy, really, how a simple gesture from Rintarou makes your heart flood with happiness.
He mirrors your smile, a bit of mischief laced in it. Rin leans closer to you and asks, “You’re not too sore anymore?”
Blood rushes to your face and you swat at him. “Please, don’t.”
Through his arms around your side, you feel his body shake in laughter. “Okay, okay. Don’t be a blushing mess. We’re in public, Y/N.” He pulls you closer to him and plants a quick kiss on your temple. “Let’s behave from now on.”
You murmur chastising words as events from last night come back to you.
Suna had just forced you to finish drinking a glass of water, mumbling something about you needing to re-hydrate. You’re already washed up, dressed in a pair of fluffy cotton pajamas.
“Good girl,” he murmured before placing the empty glass on the bedside table. He then propped himself up against the headboard, making sure the blankets are covering you.
The praise made you smile like a shy young girl and Rin opened his arm. You didn’t allow yourself a moment of hesitation, immediately going towards his warmth. He squeezed the side of your waist as you snuggled against him.
The post-sex bliss was still surrounding you both. “What are you thinking?”
The sound of his heartbeat was calming, and you didn’t realize it had been slowly lulling you to sleep until Rin repeated his question. It’s been happening a lot lately - him initiating conversation, wanting the two of you to build good communication.
Maybe it’s the domesticity of snuggling in bed with your husband, or the way his hand had traveled upwards to where it’s rubbing softly against your back. You weren’t exactly sure what spurred you to answer candidly. “I’m thinking that I really like you, Rin. A lot. But I guess you already knew that.”
He hummed in confirmation. You weren’t expecting anything back, you knew it’s only been a few months. But much like he’s been doing, Rintarou surprises you. “I’m thinking I’m starting to care about you. A lot. Though it may take me a lot more moments of introspection for me to truly know what I feel. But, really, Y/N, I care about you and I want you to know it, in case I haven’t been clear.”
The hesitation in his voice almost made you melt. He didn’t need to say it, to be honest. You’ve noticed it in all the ways he had been changing in the past several weeks. Trying to quit smoking, spending more time with you and your kids. Opening more communication between you two.
Still, the verbal affirmation is welcomed.
“Thank you, Rin,” you murmured sleepily against him. “For all your efforts.”
You vaguely heard him whisper the words back to you before you drifted off to sleep.
You pull back from hiding your face against your husband’s body and crane your head back. He inspects your face briefly before saying, “All good, you no longer look like a ripe tomato.”
You fake glare at him and remember where you two are. You look around and see Hajime introducing someone to his guests. Beside you, Rintarou pulls out his phone after it pings. He begins typing his reply with one hand, the other reaching for yours.
One of the things you have learned about your husband in the past months is that he can be clingy. You grasp his hand and intertwine your fingers together.
As Hajime approaches you with his new guest, your eyes widen. “Serin?”
Two distinct sounds reach your ear.
Serin’s gasp.
And the sound of a phone crashing on the floor.
Rintarou lets go of your hand as he bends down to pick his phone up.
“Y/N? What a lovely surprise. You’re friends with Hajime?” Serin is quick to give you a hug. “Such a small world!”
You smile at her and then your at friend. “This is… wow.” You turn to Rintarou who’s now back on his feet. You reach for his hand back but he puts both his hands inside his pockets.
The look on his face tells you that his phone must have experienced serious damage.
“Serin, this is my husband, Rintarou. Rin, I met Serin at work yesterday, I didn’t know she’s the girlfriend that Hajime has been talking about. This is a nice coincidence! Don’t you think so?”
The woman blinks slowly before she smiles slightly at your husband. “Nice to meet you.”
To your surprise, Rintarou ignores her extended hand. Instead, he gives her a curt nod before promptly excusing himself outside.
You mask your concern and turn apologetically to Serin and Hajime. “Um, I’m sorry about that. Maybe he’s upset about his phone.”
Serin purses her lips in a small pout. “No worries, Y/N. Let’s talk again later, I want to go to the birthday boy now.” She shoots you a dazzling smile before dragging Hajime by the hand towards Kenta’s direction.
You sigh. As much as you’re delighted that Hajime’s girlfriend is the same nice woman you met yesterday, you can’t help but worry about Rintarou.
After a quick glance at your kids who are engrossed playing with their friends, you follow your husband outside.
Rintarou is restlessly pacing back and forth and though you’re not that physically close, you can see his brows knotted in worry.
“Rin?” He pauses at your voice and looks at you with slightly wide eyes. He doesn’t offer any words.
“Are you okay?”
He blinks a few times. “Yeah.” And then, “Just needed space to breathe.”
There’s a moment of hesitation - as if he wants to say more but decides against it. He resumes his pacing and you quietly slip back inside.
The rest of the party goes relatively well and you’re glad that you’re able to spend time and converse with the other parents from the playground. Moreover, the happy giggles and wide smiles of your children filled your heart with love.
Soon enough, Rin’s earlier actions get pushed to the back of your mind.
˚₊⁎⁎⁺˳༚ ˚₊⁎⁎⁺˳༚
It wasn’t particularly a long day but as soon as you got Risa and Ryuu to fall asleep, your body starts demanding you to rest.
You barely make it through showering. Once you’re done for the night, you move to settle on your shared bed with Rintarou to see him all quiet. He’s sitting on the bed, leg impatiently tapping on the floor.
“Rin, what’s the matter?”
He looks up, your eyes meeting briefly before he turns away. “Nothing.”
In the past, you would have let it go, afraid that you’d push the wrong buttons to set him off against you. But now, given how things have changed between the two of you, you want to talk.
“You’ve been awfully quiet since we left Kenta’s party. Is something bothering you?”
It takes Rintarou a very long time to respond. When he does, it makes you think you may have misheard him.
“Sorry? What did you say?” You ask, your voice gentle despite the tremors and dread building inside you.
His response comes again, louder and clearer this time. “You.”
“Rin?”
He looks you in the eye this time as he stands up. It’s only then that you noticed he hasn’t changed out of his clothes yet. “You. The one that’s bothering me.”
You shake your head as you begin to step closer to him. “I don’t understand.”
Rintarou scoffs. “Of course you don’t.” He swats away the hand that tries to touch him and it leaves you freeze in surprise.
He then makes his way towards the balcony. And you’re still standing there, left alone in the room, dumbfounded and confused.
Oddly enough, this feels like a deja vu.

At the beginning of your forced marriage to Suna, you knew there was a slim chance that you two would get along. He hated you, and deep down, though you never voiced it out loud, you also resented him for taking advantage of you and getting you pregnant.
But now, looking back at the past few months, you think that your relationship might actually work. He’s no longer treating you horribly. In fact, he’d been extremely nice, getting involved in preparing for your kids’ arrival, being supportive and caring, and overall acting friendly.
For this night, you decided to cook him a simple dinner. He had texted you earlier in the day that he’d drop by Osamu’s newly-opened restaurant to give his congratulations. You had told him it’s okay if he wanted to celebrate with his friends but Rintarou insisted that he’d much rather spend the evening with you.
You knew not to get your hopes up, that he’s just being a responsible father and husband. Still, your traitorous heart beat wildly at his last message, looking forward to seeing him come home.
Four hours later, however, the dinner you prepared is cold and you’re seated alone at the living room couch. Waiting for Rintarou who never came home at the time he promised.
Your eyes were drooping, drowsiness almost winning the long battle you’ve been having against it. Finally, the door opened and Rintarou came in.
He looked utterly wasted.
You stood up in the fastest way possible for a heavily-pregnant person. “Rin, what happened? You weren’t answering my texts and calls. I was so worried.”
He looked up from tossing his shoes to the side. His hair was disheveled and his face was flushed, probably from drinking. “Fuck off.”
The words surprised you, the venom in them strong enough to make you take a step back. You were able to regain your stance nonetheless and moved closer to him, placing a gentle hand on his arm. “Huh? Are you okay, Rin?”
“Don’t call me that.” He glared at you before swatting your hand away. “You ruined everything. Everything.”
Tears welled up in your eyes. “What? Rin, I’m confused. What happened?”
He didn’t answer you and instead began walking towards the stairs. You were hurt and confused but you didn’t want the night to end with him ignoring you.
Being pregnant, it took you longer to arrive at your now shared room. When you opened the door, you saw that it was already a mess. Broken things everywhere, confirming your suspicions from the sounds you heard on the way to the room.
“Rintarou, stop!” You tried to tell him but he whipped so fast to face you that your feet froze on the spot. “Leave me the fuck alone! You ruined my life, my everything!”
You remained unmoving, fists clenched at the sides. “I don’t understand. Can you calm down, please?”
He grabbed an ornamental vase that you had placed on the dresser and threw it on the floor.
You stared at the flowers from your garden. Lying, broken, and mangled. “Rin, I’m getting scared. Please, let’s talk about what’s wrong?”
“You,” he finally responded. “You’re the most wrong thing in my life.”
His words felt like dagger to your heart. You couldn’t understand what was happening. Things have been going well…
“I hate your existence in my life. I hate this. I hate that I had to marry you. I hate that you’re pregnant. I hate-”
“Please don’t say that,” you begged, tears flowing down your face. “Don’t.”
Rintarou laughed emptily. It pained you to see how angry and sad he looked like. “Isn’t this what you wanted? To talk about what’s wrong? It’s you. So here’s what’s going to happen: since you’re adamant about keeping the babies, then fine, go ahead.
“But I want you to know that this marriage will only be words on a paper. Do not expect anything from me. I will never be your husband. I will never be your friend. You will never mean anything to me. I will never love you. Understood?”
You could barely see him through the stream of your tears. You wished this was just a bad dream and that you’d wake up soon.
“Answer me!” Rintarou yelled. “Do you understand?”
“Y-yes.”
He kicked at the broken vase by his foot. “Now leave me the fuck alone.”

The memory claws at your heart and you clutch at your chest. It seems like everything from the past is repeating but this time, the pain is multiplied ten-fold.
You can’t help but ask yourself as you stare at the fox plushie on your hands.
What really happened?
Can you really not be happy with Rintarou?
You lift a hand to wipe at your eyes. The other loses its grip on the toy and it drops onto the floor. You wipe your tears one more time before leaning over the bed to reach for it. It bounces against your strained grip, going further out of your reach.
It seems like the fox plush is mocking you.
You tiredly go down the bed to pick it up. However, once it’s back in your hands, you decide to just lean your back against the bed’s side instead of climbing back onto the bed.
You haven’t felt this tired in a long time. Not even during your recent fight with Rintarou months ago.
You close your eyes to fight off the tears that have resurfaced, tears that never really stopped forming in your eyes. To your dismay, you’re unable to ward them off, so you’re left crying, tears escaping your closed eyes.
And as you succumb to the darkness brought by your closed lids, you wish for the pain to be gone the moment you open your eyes.

Outside, Suna shuts the balcony door behind him before he leans against the railing. He can hear the faint sounds of your crying but wills himself to ignore them.
Instead, he stares ahead at nothing, hoping something can drown out your sounds of sorrow. He curses under his breath until he reaches into his pocket, hand clenching tightly on the item.
Not long after, with the backdrop of the dark sky devoid of moon and any stars, the tip of a lit cigarette burns bright like a blaze.
to be continued.
˚₊⁎⁎⁺˳༚ ˚₊⁎⁎⁺˳༚
I hope you liked this update hehehe. Question! Do we resolve things quickly or go down the hard path (and curse Suna along the way?) LET ME KNOW!

pairing: rintarou suna x gn!reader (pet names: babe)
word count: 3k
cw: strong language, v brief mentions of harassment before the cut, alcohol use, kind of cheating??,, angst w happy ending (i fell in love w him writing this)
luna speaks: bye i’ve been thinking ab green day a lot recently so heres the loml in a rock band <33
Going into university without a scholarship, it meant you were tight on cash all the time. To make matters worse, the only place hiring was a small, dark bar off the main road by your flat. For seven months, it was hell. You had kicked out more drunk idiots than you could count, and had been flirted with even more often.
On the eight month mark, your last straw was when your boss revealed he was leaving you alone for the night with someone who had two days of training whilst there was a band due to be playing. That night, you were the closest to quitting you had ever been. By seven o’clock, the band was fifteen minutes late and you had already put a stop to two fights. And your coworker? Scrolling through her phone, and ignoring the man trying to get her attention.
You couldn’t take it anymore, so you marched over and took the phone from her hands. You ignored her frustrated yells after you as she was left to fend for herself for ten seconds so you could shove her phone in your boss’s desk; out of sight, out of mind. When you returned, you brushed past her without so much as a glance despite her begging for her phone.
“Do your fucking job, you’ll get it back at the end of the night when you’ve done something useful.”
You picked up two dirty glasses that were placed in front of you, shoving them in the glass washer before turning to face him.
His sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, leaning so far over bar you could smell the ash and mint from where you stood. One hand fixed the chain around his neck, the other rest on the counter, fingers tapping the wood with the music from your carefully curated spotify playlist to keep you sane. He flashed you a boyish smile when you caught his gaze, almost certain he had been checking you out.
“What can I get you?”
“Three pints and a double whiskey, please.” He straightened up when you pulled out three pint glasses, carefully filling them all to the top.
You brought two of the glasses back over, nodding your head when you spotted a couple of people walk in with guitar cases. You gestured over to the stage area, letting out a sigh of relief that didn’t go unnoticed by your customer. He looked over his shoulder, noticing the cases and turning back.
“Everything okay?”
“Um...” You picked up two of the more popular whiskeys, waiting for him to decide before pouring him a double measure. “The band is late, but they just came in. These people will finally calm the fuck down and hopefully no more glasses will be broken in arguments over who’s hotter.”
He flashed you a smile, taking the whiskey from you and drinking it in one. He passed it back over to you, shaking his head when you went to pick up the card machine. “Oh, add it to our tab. Do you have any song requests? I can see what I can do for you.”
Oh? Oh. “You’re from the band?” you asked, even though you already knew from the look on his face. With the heat rushing to your cheeks, you couldn’t have been happier about the bar having dim lighting than you were in that moment.
Somehow, his smile grew wider as the music from your playlist changed. “Is this your music? You have taste. I’ll dedicate a song to ya, what’s your name?”
“Y/n.”
He picked up the three beers, nodding his head. “First song is for you, y/n.”
You watched him hurry towards the cornered off area where his two bandmates were sat in wait of their drinks, everything set up. You paused your music, watching as the mystery man sipped his beer before slinging a guitar around his neck. He tapped the microphone, leaning in to it.
“Testing, testing.”
You grabbed a bottle of sake from the fridge and the card machine, holding it up to one of your regulars.
“Thanks for coming here tonight, sorry for keeping you waiting. I’m Sunarin, and we’re Raijin.” He pulled back from the mic, laughing softly at the applause. “This first song is for a special someone, this night wouldn’t be happening without them. They’re here tonight, working behind the bar.”
You felt your coworker’s presence by your side, leaning on her toes to try get a better view past the customers. You stepped back, leaning against the warm glass washer and locking eyes with Sunarin.
“Y/n, I hope you have the time your life.”
You couldn’t help but smile at him, watching intently as he started playing the first few notes of your favourite song.
For the four hours they played, you struggled to take your eyes off Sunarin. And you knew he could say the same about you. Whenever you looked away to tend to your job, you would look back and his eyes would still be rest upon you. Even at the end of the show, tidying up, he still couldn’t look away.
You had your coworker clearing down the tables whilst you were counting out the tips for the night, considering sneaking some extra notes for yourself. You did do more work…
“Can I close our tab?”
You spun around at the sound of his voice, trying to stop the smile from showing. “Yep.” You picked up the card machine, scrolling through to find their name.
“So, what did you think?” The corner of his lips tugged up into a lopsided grin, his eagerness showing. He slid his card over to you to tap when ready.
“You’re really good. Do you play often?”
“Yeah. You should see us sometime, out of work. Then you can have a front row view.”
You held the card out to him, an eyebrow raised. “Depends. Will you dedicate another song to me?”
He laughed, soft like honey. “I’ll dedicate every song to you, babe.”
Their next performance was at a club you were familiar with, frequenting there with your friends on the weeks where you have very little classwork. You weaved through the people with three drinks in your hands, managing to squeeze your way to the front where your friends were stood.
“I, uh, got you a double whiskey and a pint.”
Rintarou looked up from his guitar, eyes growing wide. “Well, well. Look who remembered my order.” He set his guitar down, stepping over to you and taking his drinks. “You must like me,” he teased with a wink, shooting back the whiskey and setting it on the chair by his guitar along with the pint glass.
Thankful for the dim lighting hiding your blush, you shrugged your shoulders and took a sip from your own drink. “I’m a bartender, if I don’t know people’s orders I’ll get fired.”
He shook his head, picking up his guitar and waving to his bandmates. “Nah, you like me.”
Rintarou backed up onto the stage, eyes kept on you the entire time. He tapped on the microphone, tested it, and cleared his throat. “My name is Sunarin, we’re Raijin. I’d like to dedicate this concert to a very special someone. Y/n, have the time of your life.”
At the end of the show, when everyone’s eyes were still on the band, Rintarou walked down towards you and held out his guitar pick. It was a marble one, gold with black with an S on it. You took it from him carefully, a sparkle in your eyes.
“Keep it. It’s yours now.”
On your two year anniversary, Rintarou swore to you he would make it up to you. He promised that he would finish up in the studio quick, that you would only be in there waiting for forty-five minutes before you made your reservations. He sat you down in the chair his manager usually sat in, gave you a pair of headphones. Told you to listen, prayed you’d like it.
“We recording? Hey, y/n. Happy two years together, I hope you had the time of your life. This one’s for you.”
For thirty-seven minutes, you sat and listened to ten songs written by your boyfriend. His heart, his soul, all on a record for the world to hear. The album he had been working on with his band so intently. Every thought, every feeling he had about you for the last two years, coming through the headphones.
When the end of the last song played, you couldn’t find the words. You sat in silence, staring at Rintarou’s reflection in the glass before you. His eyes stay on you, just like always.
When you finally managed to face him with tears in your eyes, his heart dropped. For a second, his world started to shatter. You hated it. It was too raw, you couldn’t face him. He reached to remove your headphones, stopping in his tracks.
You threw yourself into his hold, burying your face in the crook of his neck. There weren’t enough words in all languages combined to describe your love for him. Instead, you pulled back from him and took his face in your hands. “You are my rock.”
His lips tugged upwards, fighting back tears of his own. “You are my world. Come on, let’s make our reservations.”
Your third year anniversary was spent in Rome, one day before the last concert of Raijin’s world tour. You sat watching him from a chair on a private balcony, glass doors only opening when food was being delivered. His fingers softly strummed an all too familiar tune on an acoustic guitar.
The door behind you slid open, an older man carrying a tray with two drinks and a dessert you hadn’t ordered. On the house, he had assured, carefully setting them before you both and retreating to the restaurant once again.
Rintarou set the guitar aside, picking up his glass and holding it towards you. “Thank you, for travelling with me. I couldn’t have done this without you by my side.”
You remembered the stress in the air around him packing, confused on what to bring when he’ll be gone for seven months. You assured him he’d be able to wash his clothes, get them freshened. Talked him through it all. When he asked you to come with him, you were concerned he’d regret it.
“What if you want to go out with the boys after?”
“Then I want you to come out with us after, too.”
You tapped your glass against his, taking a sip of the cocktail before speaking, “I wouldn’t have been able to sit at home with you here. I can’t sleep without you.”
Rintarou dug his spoon into the tiramisu, holding it out for you to taste. He watches you intently, taking in every movement you make, the way you covered your mouth when you pulled back from him.
“I feel the same.” He took a bite of the dessert for himself, setting the spoon down on the tabletop and leaning back in his seat.
Your gaze followed his onto the skyline, a view of the city from above. “It’s so beautiful here. I wish we had more time.”
“We have all the time in the world, babe.”
You turned back around, taking a sip from your cocktail. You set the glass back down, facing the empty chair across from you. Turning your head in confusion, you set your gaze at him knelt beside you, holding up a sleek, black box.
“I want to spend the rest of my life, having the time of our lives.”
A year and a half later, his hands rest on your hips, swaying along with you slowly to the same song you had danced to at the start of the night. Your uncomfortable shoes had been discarded long ago, not long after your first dance, sat carefully perched upon the chair you ate your meal in. You held him as close as you could, hearing him whispering along to the song in your ear.
“I know we’ll have the time of our life.”
Two nights ago, you were sat at your dining table, head held in your hands with your fingers massaging your temples. Rintarou paced back and forth in front of you, attempting to take deep breaths to calm himself down.
You lifted your head, hands dropping to the table, looked at him. “Rin, sit down.”
He shook his head, turning to face you with his eyebrows forced together. “Why? So you can sit there and nag at me? How many fucking times, y/n? She kissed me! I pushed her away, but the cameras didn’t capture that, did they? They never fucking do.”
“That’s not why I’m hurt, Rin. It was one week ago, why didn’t you tell me?” You could feel the tears trying to escape. “You tried to cover it up. You and the band tried to hide it from me. I thought we were meant to be open and honest with each other.” Your eyes flickered over to the frame hung on the wall: glass, a polaroid of the two of you when you first met, the guitar pick. Engraved in gold at the bottom, have the time of your life.
“I didn’t want you to think anything of it!” Rintarou sighed, pulling out the seat across from you. He sat, clasping his hands and resting them on the tabletop. “I love you, y/n. I don’t care about some- some crazy fucking fan who said she wanted a picture and then kissed me for it. I pushed her away. I swear it.”
Your eyes never moved from the picture of you both, so young and early into the relationship. His arms around your neck, pulling you in closer to him. Both of you with wide smiles, you looking at him in adoration.
When you didn’t respond, his attention turned to the frame on the wall. All he could focus on was the engraved phrase at the bottom. He didn’t notice his vision getting blurry, his cheeks getting wet.
“What happened?”
Your eyes drifted over to him, eyebrows raising at his words. Part of you wanted to laugh at how stupid his question was. “Rin, we’ve been married two years. ‘What happened?’ You did. You did a month long tour and didn’t invite me with you, you didn’t consult me. You just said you were going on a tour. And when you get back, I see you kissing another girl all over the news after… You have made me look like a fool.” You watched him dry his tears, unable to conceal high emotions anymore.
He cleared his throat, tapped his fingers against the table. “Please, how can I make it up to you, y/n? I have to make it up to you.”
You hesitated, trying to force back tears of your own. “I want you to give me some space for a few days. I need to think.”
Rintarou knows what you meant when you said that. He sits waiting on your doorstep for you to come home from work, having left his key inside without realising. He knows you’re thinking about whether or not you should leave him, start over with someone who wouldn’t fuck you over, stop showing their love for you. He knows you deserve better, but he wants to be the best for you.
When he spots your car pulling up in the driveway, he’s on his feet in an instant. He collects the bouquet of flowers for you and holds them behind his back, an attempt to hide them. Rintarou watches you intently, can see you considering whether or not you should just drive away. He sighs in relief when you open the car door and start walking towards him.
You stop a foot away from him, lips quivering at the sight. He hasn’t changed out of the clothes he had left in, his hair unkempt and eyes sunken in and almost lifeless. He struggles to find the words, lips apart but nothing coming out. Instead, he pulls out the flowers and holds them out to you with shaking hands.
“These are for you.”
You take them from him cautiously, but your eyes don’t move from his. You let out a breath you didn’t realise you were holding, and throw your arms around him. You bury your face in his jacket, making an attempt to hold back your tears. “I didn’t think you were coming back,” you admit, pulling back and cupping his face in your free hand.
He leans further into your touch, the warmth of your hand something he never wants to pull away from. “I can’t lose you, y/n. I’m nothing without you.” Rintarou’s voice cracks midway through, and his tears start falling. “I’m so sorry I lied to you. I’ll never do it again. I should have told you. I can’t- I need you with me. You matter more to me than anything, even music. I would burn every guitar in the world if it meant I could hug you for five seconds.”
You swallow your heartbeat, taking in a deep breath through your nose. “Rin-“
“I can’t breathe if you’re not in my life. I mean it, y/n, all this time I’ve been saying I hope you have the time of your life because I do. I want you to, and I want it to be with me. So badly, I do, even if I stole it from Billie Joe Armstrong, I need it to be true. If you want to get even, you can. You could go out and kiss four hundred people and I wouldn’t care as long as you came back to sleep in my arms afterwards.”
Rintarou’s hold on you grows weaker as more tears begin to fall. “Please, just give me one more chance.”
You wipe at his tears with your thumb, a deep ache in your chest. “I love you, Rin. So much,” you promise him, moving your hand away from his face to wipe at his own tears. “Please don’t leave me again after a fight, no matter how much I beg. Just leave the room, but sleep in the same bed as me. It’s so empty without you.”
He lets out a soft cry of relief, dropping his head and letting it fall against your shoulder. He snakes his arms around your waist, pulling you in closer to him. “You’re stuck with me forever.”
“I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Beautiful Temptation
Suna Rintarou (Haikyuu! Timeskip x Reader)
Masterlist!
Hello! I’m kinda back after a long time! This has been saved in my drafts for so long too, I just had to share it with you all! Hope you give our dear Suna some love! x
!!!Minors do not interact!!!
Warnings: nsfw, language
WC: 930
Suna Rintarou was intoxicated by you. He may have had his fifth drink of the night in his hands but he has been drinking you in ever since you entered the room. And now, he was dizzy.
The alcohol wasn’t kicking in yet, no. The visual of your plump, cute, little figure prancing inside the bar was driving him fucking insane. Never did he think he’d see you wear that short of a dress being so cool and laid back, when at work, you kept everything professional. As he got to know you, he admired you for your work etiquette and quirky personality that he wished, prayed even, that you would swoon for him like all the other women around you. Even just a little…
His eyes were watching you like a hawk all night, memorizing the way you laughed and the way you crumpled your face at every shot you took. He didn’t want to acknowledge it, but he was so whipped, it was unbelievable.
“Let’s goooo!” One of your friends shouted and your group went to the dance floor to have more fun.
He was about to lose his goddamn mind at this point. His pants got tighter at the view of your hips dancing to the blasting beat of the song. Albeit shyly, but damn! He swore he tried his best to look away, it was for your AND his own sake.
But fuck it! Your dress was riding up your thigh and he was already shaking at the amount of soft flesh you were flashing him with.
“Shit.” He cursed your name underneath his breath. You were such a temptation to endure but he didn’t have the strength to fight his feelings tonight. So with one big gulp of his liquid courage, he walked straight to you.
The hand on your hip came as a surprise. You’ve heard stories about this from your friends but it startled you nonetheless. This was your first time partying and you never thought someone would do such a thing. And as you turned around, you never could have thought who had the audacity to lay a finger on you.
“Suna!” Your voice squeaked.
“Hey there, sunshine. Fancy seeing you here.” He smirked, stepping closer and leaning into your ear.
It wasn’t fair how beautiful Suna Rintaro is. You tried your best to always keep your composure around him but sometimes, it was an impossible task. The flashing lights casted highlights and shadows on his pretty face and each time, he seems more irresistible than ever. His smirk never wavered and his touch ignited a fire deep within your soul. And if that wasn’t enough, he sent a wink your way.
You were burning at this point, ready to fucking combust at any moment. Your breath hitched but you recovered quickly and returned his friendliness with a smile. And it may not look like it but that was enough to make him deranged.
“W-what are you doing here?” You stuttered as he took a step closer.
He shrugged his shoulders. “Same as you? I just wanted to have a good time.”
You wanted to wipe the stupid foxy smile on his handsome face. It was ridiculous, the things that he was making you feel. He was so tall and the way his body was dancing to the beat, so graceful and suave, was making you water in the mouth.
Get yourself together!
“Do you come here often?” You asked, breathless, still dazed, running out of things to say.
“No.” He replied, taking your hand as you both swayed to the music. His arm extended upwards, probing you to do a twirl and you did. But as your back faced him, he took the chance of catching your hips and connecting yours with his front. “I’m glad that I’m here the same time as you, though. Aren’t I a lucky guy?”
Hairs on the back of your neck stood up as he breathed on your nape. His lips ghosted on your skin and his hands squeezed at the plush of your waist. You couldn’t help but sigh at his actions, surprised at how good the electricity felt. You leaned further into him, allowing him to give you a full embrace, his warmth encasing your being. It was almost comforting until you felt the wet and stinging sensation of his teeth, his tongue, and his mouth on your neck. He then sucked unapologetically and there was nothing you could do but extend and expose everything you had for him.
“Hmm, you like that, sweetheart?” He chuckled, not missing the hitch on your breath. His hands didn’t waste a second of pushing you more onto him, losing all sanity at your proximity. “God, fuck! You have no idea how much I’ve wanted you. I can’t keep hiding myself from you any longer.”
His whispers were so aggressive, mimicking his death grip on your skin. His hips bucked and pushed harder onto your ass making his bulge known.
You have never felt so wanton! This was so wrong yet so right! Your head was swimming from all the new sensations that he brings. And it doesn’t help that you wanted him to death too! This was what your fantasies were made of! Him touching you in places for you to reach euphoria…
“Fuck.” You cursed, softly as you felt his fingers swiftly touch your breasts.
He chuckled, the sound vibrating on your back. “Oh, baby, what I’d give to hear you scream that for me.”
A whimper left you again as he turned you around to face him. “Please, go home with me tonight, angel. I promise to take care of you.”
“S-suna, I—“
“Please.” He pleaded, kissing your forehead. “Please, I need you so bad.”
You licked your lips, not knowing what to say. “I-i’ve never done this before.” You whispered and stuttered.
Suna tucked your hair behind your ears and gave you a sincere smile as he said your name. “No need to worry about that, I’ve got you. I swear I’ll take such good care of you… if you’ll let me.”
With your lips almost touching, you lost all inhibitions.
So you nodded and agreed to his beautiful temptation.

suna rin x fem! reader
1.1k words
warnings: reader is described as gyaru and highkey a bitch, infidelity (on suna's part), making out, swearing
"Hey is that suna," your friend asked, staring behind you in the crowded arcade. The dark room was filled with neon lights and a ton of teenagers. Someone dressed in gyaru, like you, and others in school uniforms. It wasn't surprising to the middle blocker here, but it was to see that bitch from class 2-A with him.
hey, hey, you, you
I don't like your girlfriend
No way, No way
I think you need a new one
It had to have been a bet or charity work for him to be going out with her. You and your friends watch the girl point and shyly ask him if he wants to go to the photo booth. With his back slumped and his arms hanging he nods his head and closes his eyes with a sigh. He really looks like he doesn't want to be here. Both of them were dressed in your inarizaki uniform. Did they come just from his practice?
Your friends watch your face scrunch up and anger and decide they must help you. Your best friend, Mika, comes up and wraps herself around your arm and looks at you with a devilish smile. "we should get her away from him, huh," she says calmly. Her eyes widened a bit hoping you got her hint and she turns back and giggles to the rest of your friends.
You turn and look up at her cute face and nod your head with your own devilish smirk on your face.
Hey, Hey, you, you
I could be your girlfriend
No way, No way
No, it's not a secret
While you and your friends were on the way to the photo booth you couldn't help but think about the things you overheard at lunch. Suna was sitting at his normal lunch table on his phone when you passed by. Your skirt was rolled up, hoping he would turn around and see you, but something even better happened. On his phone you could see a photo of you at the front of the school. Suna a quickly zoomed in on you and told his friends, "fuuucckk, she's so hot" He dropped his phone on the table, and rested his head on it too in sadness. Some of your friends even confirmed your suspicion when they overheard Osamu saying your rin's. So what the hell was he doing with this nobody.
Your girlfriends grabbed your arm to get you closer to the curtain before opening it and grabbing the inconsiderate girl and placing you in her spot.
You're so fine, I want you mine,
you're so delicious
I think about you all the time,
You're so addictive
Now wearing a cute sanrio headband you made your way to suna's heart, "hi, rin" you said to him while wrapping your arms around his neck. Like you, he had a kuromi headband over his perfect hair.
3
His arm quickly wrapped itself around your body pulling him closer. His half lidded eyes watched yours while a small smirk made its way to his face. "hey baby," he quickly responded like the two of you have been together all this time.
2
"Let's pose for the camera!" you told him excitedly.
1
Moving quickly you brought one hand under his chin while you leaned forward to give his cheek a kiss. Then for the next you and suna were caught staring eye to eye, and for the final picture suna held up a 'rock on' sign while you held a peace sign to your eye giving a wink to the camera. Coming out of the photo booth. You grabbed your slip of photos and walked away waving bye to Rin while his sad little girlfriend stood next to him.
You didn't wanna ruin their whole date…just the good parts. Leaving Rin to do nothing but think of you.
Don't pretend, I think you know
I'm damn precious
And hell yeah, I'm the
motherfucking princess
I can tell you like me too, and you know i'm right
At the small food court in the arcade you made sure to spill some of your food on her. Giving her a fake gasp and an even faker 'sorry'. Then you made her trip in dance dance revolution making everyone laugh even suna. He loved this side of you. And you knew he was secretly enjoying this as much as you were.
So come over here and tell me what I wanna hear
better yet, make your girlfriend disappear
I don't wanna hear you say her name ever again
At one point in the night you stood over in a small hallway, and waited for suna to look over at you. Which wasn't long of course, giving him a small come here with your index finger. He obeyed because why wouldn't he, and immediately wrapped his arms around your waist with a small smile. With you against the wall he leaned in and asked when your noses brushed against one another, "you're playin' all those tricks aren't ya,". You nodded your head with a giggle and he just smiled at your cuteness.
"And you're hanging around the Miya's too much," you clapped back, grabbing the tie out of his sweater and playing with it. Both leaning in you left a small kiss on his lips and leaned back not expecting him to want more. He quickly made out with you holding your head close wanting your touch while his girlfriend looked for him in the multi-floored arcade. She didn't need to know that her boyfriend wanted your plump lips. Pulling away though the dimmed, colored lights you could see your sparkly lip gloss smeared on his lips, before he leaned back to get one last kiss from you. Rin winked and ran back over to the silly girl wandering aimlessly around the room.
In a second you'll be wrapped around my finger
'Cause I can, 'cause I can do it better
There's no other, so when's it gonna sink in
She's so stupid, what the hell were you thinking?
Now across the street you waited alone for the two highschool students to walk out of the arcade. There was the silly girl running out with tears in her eyes, while Suna walked out shortly after her with his head down in his phone. Completely unbothered. You skipped across the street and hopped when you were in front of him. He looked up and gave you a small smirk before lacing your fingers with his and walking home with you.
Hey, hey, you, you
I want to be your girlfriend
No way, no way, hey, hey

when you go to his house in the middle of the night, drunk
suna x f reader, best friends to lover, underage drinking, swears
Suna rubbed his eyes as he stared at the pages in front of him. He shook his head before popping open yet another energy drink.
He knew that he should not have kept off studying until the night before the exam, but to his defence, it was the last exam of his high school career and he really did not care about English.
As he was about to close his textbook for a break, he heard rustling outside his window. He looked up in curiosity and almost had a heart attack when he saw a familiar figure facing him.
"Hey," his tone was normal but his furrowed eyebrows said otherwise. You've never shown up outside his window this late. Not because you had a curfew but because you like sleeping early. He helped you in like he had done a thousand times before.
"Hi rinnie," you giggled once you were seated on the top of his desk.
Your hyena-like state was enough to give it away but the slurring words and reeking breath confirmed the current situation to Suna.
"How much did you drink?" Suna asked disappointed but not surprised.
"Not much," you smile innocently. "You-"
"Lower your voice," he said as he opened his cupboard drawer. "Take one."
You catch the pack of chewing gum he threw in your direction, examining it carefully before putting it in your mouth.
"Take the wrapper off," he sighs, quite speechless at your state.
"I don't want to," you shrug the pack to the side and pulled out something from your hoodie pocket. "Let's have this."
Suna stared at the flask and rubbed his eyes.
"Why are you here, y/n? I know you're smart and definitely do not need to study but why are you here? Like this?"
The smile on your face faltered slightly but did not drop. "My parents went on a trip."
"Okay so?"
It was normal for your parents to go out of town for business meetings and such. It was also normal for you to be a little rebellious during that time- partying, hooking up and whatnot. What was not normal was for you to show up at his house at 2 in the morning with a flask filled with- what he guessed- tequila and no shoes on- all before an exam.
"They're coming back next month," you shrugged as you tried to open the flask.
"Oh," he said, trying to hide his disbelief. He knew about your relationship with your parents very well. They missed birthdays, new years celebrations and parent-teacher conferences, but he didn't expect them to miss your graduation. The one in which you’d be giving a speech as the student body president and valedictorian. If anyone knew how hard you worked it was Suna. He’d sat through all of your pre-exam breakdowns and campaigning tactics. He knew how much this meant to you and for your own parents to not care was astounding to him.
"It's nothing new," you let out a painful laugh to which he winced. "Ugh, why is the lid so fucking tight."
He stared at you for a while and then held out his hand for the flask. You gave it to him apprehensively, afraid he would throw it away. Instead, he put it in his back pocket, held your hands and helped you down to the floor of his bedroom.
He unscrewed the lid with ease and took a swig of the alcohol. The warm liquid rushed down his throat and he squinted.
Vodka. Fucking raw vodka.
"You didn't answer my question," he spoke after a while, turning towards you. "How much did you drink?"
"This much," you gestured with your hands and he shook his head.
"One sip and that's it," he warned before handing you the flask.
Suna was well aware of your tolerance and it never failed to amaze him how low it is. Even though Suna wasn't one for drinking even he could take more liquor than you. Maybe it was the fact that he was 6'1 and you were a foot shorter or it was the fact that you never learned from your mistakes.
Whatever it was, Suna always made sure to take after you when you were drinking. From holding your hair back while you puked to scaring off guys that would try approaching you when you couldn't consent to anything, as your best friend he made sure that you were okay.
"Yes sir!" You smile that dazzling smile of yours before taking a big sip. He smiled back at you sadly. He knew there was no point in trying to comfort you when you were already this drunk. So all he could do was sit beside you and listen.
"Okay that's enough-" he snatched the flask away, meeting resistance and rolling his eyes.
"Hey I know you're stronger but this isn't fair!" you whined softly, playfully hitting his chest. You pout when you realize that he was going to finish the liquor on his own and continued to softly throw punches at his shoulder. "Rin you're so mean!"
"Tough love," he responded after you were done with your mini tantrum.
You scooted away from the boy, "What would you know about love."
Neither of you spoke, thinking about what you had just said.
"Y/n," he took his time pronouncing your name. "You know I love you, you're my best friend-"
"That's the problem," you say softly whilst shaking your head.
He tilted his head but didn't say anything.
When the silence persisted he thought that you had fallen asleep. He got up to find you a blanket but a hand on his wrist pulled him back down.
"Please don't leave me," you said softly looking into his startled green eyes.
The look on your face was enough to break his heart but when you let out a cry into his shoulder that was when he couldn't take it anymore.
You were the girl next door. The girl that helped him get up when he would fall while playing volleyball at the age of 5. You were the girl that proofread his essays. The one that took care of him when he was down. The one that was always there when others weren't.
He pulled you into his chest, arms around your head and shoulder, letting your tears wet his t-shirt.
"I'm not leaving," he whispered.
“I-I-” you tried getting the sentence out but your uncontrolled sobs didn’t let you.
“It’s okay,” he stroked your hair. “It’s okay y/n.”
“No- I,” you pulled away to look at him. “I love you.”
“I know-”
“No,” you shake your head. “I don’t love you in the ‘you’re my best friend’ way. I love you in the ‘you’re the one i think about when i read romance novels’ kind of way.”
It took Suna a while to process what you had said. He wasn’t even sure if he had heard you right.
“What?”
“Rin,” you try speaking clearly, but the sleep and alcohol were hitting you both at once. “I love you, not in the best friend kind of way.”
"No you don't," he shook his head, his mouth betraying him.
"Yes I do," you scoffed, getting off of him to sit beside him once again. "For someone that can read me like a book you can't fucking understand that I love you."
"Because you don't," he repeated, more so to himself than to you.
"I give up," you yawn resting your head on his shoulder, your eyes now fighting to stay open.
"Y/n."
"Rin."
"I love you in the more than a friend way too," he whispered to himself feeling his eyelids being pushed down.
"That's good," you say not really paying attention as you started drifting off.
The boy beside you took one look at you and then at his desk and yawned.
Suna never really cared for English anyway.
The next morning was filled with loud curses as the two students realized that they had an exam to write. The flask was discarded and so were the empty cans of energy drinks.
Neither one of you seemed to remember what you were speaking about before falling asleep. Choosing to laugh about how stupid you were for not studying instead of acknowledging your deeper family issues and moving on with your final month of school seemed to be the default choice.
High school was over.
You and Suna went to different universities in different cities.
Your career eventually took you abroad and you lost touch with the boy who you used to call your best friend.
Both of you went on with your lives never really knowing that you had drunkenly confessed to each other.
If only the vodka was not involved, things could have been different.
They do say nothing good happens after 2 am.

𝐅𝐀𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐎𝐔𝐂𝐇
pairing: suna rintaro x gen!neutral reader
genre: hurt/comfort
content: you confront him about the growing distance in your relationship, something he's been dismissing for a while, until he finally grasps the seriousness of the situation
cw: suna is a bit harsh; arguments but they make up <3
a/n: hihi anon! ty for requesting and i hope it's to your liking :D i'm still accepting requests for my 1k event so feel free to send more into my inbox!
"it's like i never see you anymore!"
suna and you have been in this back and forth argument for what felt like an eternity and it's draining the life out of you.
suna has been preoccupied with the upcoming inter-collegiate volleyball tournament. as a starter on the prestigious division 1 ejp raijin volleyball team, the arduous practices and pressure have been taking a heavier toll than expected on him.
as a result of this, suna has been incredibly distant in your relationship. he was always gone before you woke up in the morning and didn't return until after you fell asleep. every time you tried to plan a date or suggest something to do together, he somehow always cancels. it's always, "sorry i have to run some extra drills. maybe another day?"
it's exhausting putting this much effort into your relationship when it all seems in vain.
you've tried bringing this up to suna before, mentioning how you would like to spend more time together. but suna, being suna, always brushed it off. but there's only so much dismissal you can take.
you really miss your boyfriend.
but you're not sure he misses you the way you miss him.
"y/n you can't expect me to drop everything for you! like fuck, i have a life outside of you," he exclaims, snapping you back to the current argument at hand.
"i didn't say that, rin."
"that's what you're trying to say," he replies, crossing his arms over his chest.
you shake you head, lowering your voice. "i know volleyball always has and always will be a top priority for you but i just wish... well, it would be nice if you could put a bit of effort into our relationship."
"what if i don't even want to anymore..." he mumbles under his breath as he walks to the closet, grabbing a coat.
the rage in your heart and mind now simmer down to a feeling of dread and heartbreak. what?
as he turns around, he sends an icy glare at you. you've never seen this side of him and you refuse to let him see you crumble apart in front of him. you refuse to break down right now.
"you don't want to what, suna?" you look at him, tone icy cold. "go on. tell me."
the heated environment is making his mind all cloudy and he wants to end this conversation now.
"you know what i mean, y/n. i'm going out. don't call me."
the door opens and slams shut.
the moment the door closes, you're completely still. you're running on autopilot. you find yourself making a cup of tea and sitting at the dining table, looking at the empty, lifeless apartment sprawled in front of you.
subconsciously, the tears started to roll. i guess that's it then. i think i better start packing my things. i should be gone by the time he comes back home.
meanwhile, suna makes his way downtown to the bar where some of his volleyball friends had invited him out for a couple drinks. he opens the door to the bar and he can hear the familiar rowdiness of his friends.
"well, well, well, if it ain't the infamous sunarin from ejp," a familiar blonde comes running to him. "been too long since i've seen ya stupid ass."
"yeah yeah whatever asshole," suna slaps the back of atsumu and nods over at osamu who's sitting on the table. "it's good to see you both."
as suna and atsumu head to the table in the back with the rest of his friends, his mind can't help but linger back to the argument that he had with you. but he decides to shake his mind off it.
he's here to have fun with his friends right now. not be worried about you.
"you didn't bring y/n tonight?" komori, suna's teammate, asks. "i haven't seen them in a hot minute. what've they been up to?"
what have you been up to? he doesn’t know. when was the last time we both had an actual conversation? he doesn’t know. he doesn’t even know what's been going on in your life lately. fuck this is what y/n meant.
he forces a smile, masking the bitter thoughts playing in his mind. "they're good. just doing their classes and stuff."
"ah right, well bring them by sometime! it's been too long since i've seen them. they never fail to light up the room with their presence."
"yeah you're right."
he nods, taking small sips from the beer in front of him.
as the conversation and chaos ensue among his friends, his mind keeps drifting back to the memories of the argument he walked out on. his mind has cooled off and a sense of guilt starts to take over his body.
here he is having fun with his friends while you're at home all alone, waiting for him. you just wanted to spend time with him and here he was, finding comfort in other people other than you.
he tries to remember the last time you both had gone out together but he's drawing a complete blank. he can't even remember the last time he's kissed you or held you in his hands.
no wonder you've been feeling so lonely.
and in response, he just kept brushing you off until you blew up today. and to make matters worse, he walked out of the argument giving you no sense of reassurance or closure on the matter.
at the realization, suna shoots up out of his seat with flushed cheeks. the group turns to him.
"i gotta head out for the night. i gotta see my baby."
"get a fuckin' room sunarin," osamu shouts. the rest of the groups howls in agreement. "see ya."
he waves goodbye and starts trudging his way back to the shared apartment. he expects to find you asleep so he can crawl into bed with you and cuddle, never intending on letting you go.
so you can imagine the surprise when he opens the door and sees the bedroom light on and hears rustling noises. "baby?" he calls out. "y/n?"
he takes off his shoes and coat and walks to the bedroom. he starts to internally panic at the sight in front of him.
you have a couple of suitcases out filled with your clothes and belongings. at a glance, he can see that your side of the closet is almost empty. you've even taken down a couple of the decor pieces in the room that you bought but he was never particularly interested in. with your headphones in, you’re focused on packing, but what breaks him the most is seeing you wipe your eyes as you do so. why are you even packing? where are you going?
and then it hits him.
not only did he make it seem like he didn’t want to make this relationship work, but his actions have been driving you away. fuck, this was bad. he didn't mean any of it. he has to fix it or he's gonna lose the best thing in his life for good.
he goes over to you and taps your shorted and you yelp, startled by the 6'2" man, hovering above you.
"what the hell are you doing?" suna asks, cocking an eyebrow at you.
you wipe your eyes. "i'm leaving."
"don't be ridiculous," he scoffs.
"ridiculous?" you laugh at the absurdity of his comment. "what's ridiculous is how you walk out of an argument not even wanting to work things out. what's ridiculous is how you just continue to put me aside like i’m some side piece."
he knows you’re hurting. and it’s all his fault.
he doesn’t know how to properly express everything he needs to say to you.
so in the heat of it all, he does what he thinks is the next best thing and kisses you.
you'd forgotten this feeling. his soft lips on yours and how they fit together just right. it's the softest kiss he's ever given to you and your heart swells at the gesture.
you pull away and you plop yourself on the floor to process what just happened.
right there and then, he looks at you. he really looks at you. he notices the way you have some baby hairs popping out and your cheeks feel warm from all that crying. he notices the way your eyes look slightly puffed out and the remnants of tears on your cheeks.
i'm the cause of this. this is all my fault.
"i’m sorry," he begins.
you sigh and look away mumbling to yourself. "you’ve said that before. it doesn’t change anything."
"and you’re right."
you look up at him, surprised by his admission. "w-what?"
"you’re absolutely right, y/n."
he crouches down to your level, resting his hand on your knee so he can look you in the eye.
"i shouldn't have made it seem i wasn't willing to put in the effort into making us work," he says, gesturing between you and him. "my actions and what i said to you a couple hours ago obviously made it seem that way and i'm an absolute dumbass for not picking up on it."
you’re silent. he searches your face, looking for any speck of emotion, but he still can’t read you. in the amount of time he's known you, you’ve always been the exception.
"i've been swamped with so much work lately and i know i need to do better. i spread myself so thin that i forgot to prioritize the things and the people that matter the most to me."
you're silent, unsure of what to say to him.
"i thought i was doing the best i could do until i realized i could be doing so much more for us and for you. i'm so sorry for not being here."
"i know rin," you whisper. finally, for the first time you look up from your lap to look at him. "it just felt like you didn't care about us anymore. you're the hardest worker i know but i just wish you were here sometimes."
"and i wouldn't be able to be that hard worker without your love and support, you know," his hand cups your cheek as he runs his thumb across the tear streaks on your face.
"i realize how absent i’ve been in our relationship lately and i can’t imagine how lonely you’ve been feeling. i want to make this relationship work with you. i know i suck at being sappy and shit but you really are my other half. no matter what it takes, i’ll make us work. i’ll fight for this relationship. i'll fight for us."
"oh, rin," you sigh and wrap your arms around his neck, bringing him in close for a hug. the tears begin to flow from your eyes.
he feels his eyes glaze over. he breathes in your familiar scent and feels a warmth he’s missed.
even after everything, you still love him.
he starts with a gentle kiss on your cheek, then starts peppering your face with soft kisses.
you let out a watery chuckle, making his heart skip a beat. he hasn't heard your laugh in forever and he swears to himself to never be the reason for your tears again.
"let's go to bed now baby. i've gotta cuddle away all the pain i've caused you."

Suna Rintarou X F! Reader
Sometimes, it takes losing someone to finally see them. He wished he knew this before, but Rintaro had to learn this the hard way.
Genre: Angst, Romance, Hurt/Comfort
Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction and in no way represents my views of the original anime/manga characters.
WARNINGS: nothing, just fluff, and OH, did not go through proofreading lols
Word Count: 1.6k
Surprise quick update! I know I said in the last part that things are about to get downhill starting from this chapter. However, I really enjoyed writing this one that I had to cut out the angst portion. So... this is also quite a short read. Happy reading, though!
Kindly reblog, like, and/or leave a comment if you loved this chapter and let me know what you think! xoxo

“I’m very happy, Y/N,” Dr. Hirai says in front of you as she examines the papers. “These results look good. You haven’t been stressed much lately?”
You beam at the woman. “I guess so. My headaches have rarely occurred as well.”
”Great.” She smiles as she picks up her pen and starts to write. “I’m going to prescribe you some vitamins and supplements. But remember, rest and sleep is top priority, okay?”
You respond with a nod, akin to a child receiving instructions from their parent on the first day of school.
As you wait for Dr. Hirai to finish writing the prescription, a knock comes on the door. After the doctor’s “Come in”, your husband’s head peeks inside.
”Hi, Doc.” He greets before looking at you. “Hey. Something came up at the company and I have to go there. Would you want to wait for me at the cafe across the street?”
Other times you would have felt disappointed about his need to leave, but the mere fact that he’s informing you - through a cute peek at the door nonetheless - makes your heart flutter instead.
“Okay, sure.”
Rin shoots you a smile that almost melts your heart. “Great. I’ll keep you posted.”
And just like that, the door closes again. You turn to Dr. Hirai to see her looking at you. “Anything’s the matter, Doc?”
The woman just smiles before handing you the prescription. “Oh, nothing, Y/N. Nothing.”

You watch the busy street through the window, your hand tapping a pen against your journal. You’re not one to miss writing daily but these past several weeks, you have been too preoccupied to jot down your thoughts.
Then, there’s also the matter of an irrational fear.
Truth be told, you’ve been happy since that night Rintarou admitted his attraction to you; the night he asked you to give him a chance and for you two to get to know each other.
You’d love to pen down those memories but there’s a voice at the back of your head telling you that it’s a bad idea. That it’s a prelude to something terrible happening.
You place your pen on the table and flip through the older entries on your journal, only to remember the entries you are looking for are no longer in the notebook’s binder. You had them removed and placed in a box the day before you asked Rin for divorce, thinking that it's time to give up on trying to make things work for both of you.
But then, things have changed now.
Or have they really changed? That voice in your head asks in skepticism.
What if, just like before, this “peace” is a fluke? What if Rin ends up hurting you again?
You close your eyes tightly and rub at your temples. You shouldn’t be entertaining this kind of thoughts. Overthinking and worrying about things from five years ago…
”Hey, Y/N? Is that you?” A familiar voice brings you out of your thoughts and you open your eyes only to be met by a friendly smile.
”Oh,” you say in pleasant surprise, “Hi, Hajime. What an unexpected meeting.”
The older guy's smile widens as he gestures for the seat across you. You nod in reply, closing your journal and putting it at the side.
”What brings you here?”
”I had a check-up with my doctor at the hospital across the street. How about you?”
At your question, Hajime scratches his nape. You notice his ears redden and you try not to smile at how boyishly embarrassed he looks. “Um, I’m visiting someone.”
”A friend?”
He locks eyes with you and groans at the teasing look that you know is visible on your face. “Okay, okay. She’s not technically a friend. I… met her one night through an accident, my motorcycle bumped into her. Thankfully, her injuries are not serious.”
”Oh my god,” you cover your mouth in reflex. You compose yourself before continuing, “I’m assuming she’s okay, though?”
Hajime waves his hand in front of you. “No worries! She’s fine and getting better. In fact, she’s about to get discharged tomorrow.” He suddenly clicks his tongue. “Am I bad to feel sad about her being discharged? I won’t have a reason to see her anymore.”
This time, you’re not able to stop yourself from laughing. “Hajime, that’s silly! Why won’t you just ask her out? Or her family and friends, maybe? You probably have met some of them, right?”
He smiles sheepishly and it’s a contrast to his usual demeanor when in the playground with his son. “I’m nervous to ask. Also, her family’s not here. She very recently moved back to the country from living abroad several years before. She also mentioned she has yet to reconnect with any of her old friends.”
”Oh, I see. But isn’t that reason enough to ask her out, if you’re really interested in her?”
”I guess so…”
Seeing the flush on your friend’s face makes you smile. “Who would have thought you’d get yourself in a classic meet-cute scenario?”
”Ugh, Y/N, please stop teasing me.” You know he means to reprimand, but Hajime still joins you in your laughter.
˚₊⁎⁎⁺˳༚ ˚₊⁎⁎⁺˳༚
“Fuck.” Suna resists the urge to throw his phone after the screen died on him. The battery had been on the verge of dying and he couldn’t find his charger anywhere. So, he’s on the way to the cafe, hoping that you didn’t decide to go somewhere else.
As he approaches the entrance, it amazes him how he’s quick to spot you in a crowd now. He sees the baby pink dress you’re wearing, your cardigan looking soft and comfortable over it. He also notes that you had tied your hair into a bun, a few strands framing your face.
And then he notices you’re not alone. To his dismay, he recognizes the person you’re currently with. Before he knows it, Suna is already brisk-walking the short distance from the entrance to your table.
You notice his presence as you look up at him and smile. That very sweet and innocent smile instantly calms him down a notch. He takes a deep breath. “Hey. I wasn’t able to send you a message, my phone died on me.”
”That’s okay.” Then, gesturing to your companion, you ask, “Rin, you remember Hajime?”
Suna tries to sound as nonchalant as possible as he faces the man. “Yeah. What brings you here?”
Hajime gives him what he assumes to be a friendly smile and Suna reminds himself that there’s no acceptable reason why he should give in to the urge to punch the smile out of the man’s face. “I was gonna visit someone at the hospital.”
Before Suna can respond, the man quickly checks his watch as if suddenly remembering and curses under his breath. “Oh, shoot. Uh, I should go.” He gives a wave before going over to the counter to make his purchase.
Suna shakes his head, a small scoff leaving his mouth. “Rin,” you call his attention. “Let’s go?” He watches you zip your bag close and before you can put the strap on your shoulder, he swiftly grabs to carry it for you.
If he didn’t turn his back as soon as he does so, he wouldn’t have missed your blush and smile.
˚₊⁎⁎⁺˳༚ ˚₊⁎⁎⁺˳༚
Once you reach Rintarou’s car, he asks if you have your phone charger with you. As you say yes, he asks again if you would plug it in the car’s charging port as he maneuvers the car out of parking.
You do as he asks and, as you place his phone on the console, notice some things that spark your concern.
”Rin?”
”Yeah?” He responds, eyes ahead.
”I know we both have sweet tooth, but didn’t we agree not to give Risa and Ryuu too much candy?”
”Huh?”
”Lollipops and gums,” you answer, finally tearing your eyes away from the items that had caught your attention. You turn to Rin and watch as the confusion leaves his face.
To your surprise, he only chuckles in response. “Those aren’t for the kids, Y/N. They’re mine.”
Now, it’s your turn to feel lost. “Huh?”
Rintarou bites his lips. “I’m trying to quit smoking. I heard those are nice alternatives.”
”Oh.” You’re at a loss of words for a moment, remembering the many times you have told him in the past that smoking is bad for the health. As you struggle to find what to say, Rin continues.
”It’s gonna take a while though. To be honest, this isn’t the first time I’m trying and it’s really hard.” A small laugh. “I’ve been smoking even before I was legally allowed to. But god, I do hope I can finally quit this time.” He shoots you a quick smile. “I don’t want my wife to leave me because of nicotine problems.”
And just like that, whatever response you’ve been able to come up with in your mind gets forgotten, chased away by the butterflies in your stomach.
Rintarou has been doing this a lot lately: calling you his wife.
Of course he had done so in the past, but they were all said in mockery, with the intent to spite and hurt you. It’s the very opposite now. He knows he makes you flustered and you know he enjoys seeing you blush.
You turn your head to look out the window, hoping he can’t see your very red face. Behind you, he laughs a little. It does not help in calming the beating of your heart. “What’s the matter, Y/N?”
”Shut up, Rin!"
to be continued.

🐰 ⤷ miya atsumu ⋆ ˚。⋆౨ৎ˚
⊂ word count ; 1.1k (1,140)
⊂ content warning ; PART ONE 、camp counselor! reader, miya atsumu, miya osamu, suna rintarou, runa kuribayashi 、past summer flings 、some very slight angst 、atsumu is cocky 、also past mention of sunarin getting shot with an arrow??
In the dense forest on the outskirts of Inuyama, where the scent of pine mingled with the crisp air, you find yourself surrounded by excited children as they flood from buses, their laughter echoing through the clearing.
You stand next to your best friend for the summer and co-counselor, Runa, as she smiles widely at the kids running amuck. Her freckles are just starting to pop back up again and, in the sun, her light brown eyes are sparkling in the sunlight.
She's beautiful, really. If you were a better person, this gnawing feeling of jealousy probably wouldn’t be festering in your stomach.
You laugh to yourself as a question pops into your head. “Hey,” you say, nudging her side, “do you think the Inarizaki boys will be back this year?”
Without even looking at you, she snorts out her response. “No way, dude. That Sunarin kid is probably traumatized from being shot by an arrow.”
You hum and nod, images of that day flashing through your mind. You let out a little giggle, but cover it with your hand and a clearing of your throat.
“Besides,” Runa continues, “didn’t you have a thing with Atsumu or Osamu or whatever? Whichever twin it was.” She looks over at you now and raises her brows. “Yeah, you were like, devastated when he left early. Wouldn’t it be super awkward?”
Just as you open your mouth to tell her it wasn’t a thing, someone calls out your name. You turn your head to see a camper from last year sprinting towards you at full speed. You barely have time to process before she’s wrapping her arms around you, taking you both to the ground.
“Y/n, Y/n, Y/n!” She chants, squeezing tighter and tighter. The wind is knocked out of your lungs, your vision gets hazy. “I miss you so much! Can we make friendship bracelets again? I’m still wearing mine! Look, look!”
She unwraps her arms and shoves the bracelet into your field of vision. Your face is scrunched up. You’re sure you’re about to throw up.
“Jeni!” Runa shouts, assessing the situation quickly. “Oh my gosh, girl, you got tall! What are you, six feet tall now?”
The little girl gasps and stands up, now wrapping her arms around Runa instead. The older girl looks down at you and gives you a sympathetic look. You let your head drop down to the ground, tuning their conversation out. Your ass hurts, your stomach hurts. You close your eyes and press the palms of your hands against them.
“I show up and you’re already on your back for me? Gettin’ a little desperate now, Y/n.”
You feel your throat go dry. Even after a whole year, you’d recognize that voice anywhere. You don’t even want to open your eyes, but knowing he’s right in front of you makes you do it anyway.
Atsumu Miya staring down at you with that stupidly hot, cocky smirk of his.
You glance over at Runa, who's also staring down at you, but her eyes are wide in a mix of confusion and disbelief. She shrugs and nods her head towards him.
You note that he’s holding his hand out to you, but stand up by yourself, dusting your butt off and wiping your hands on your legs. “Miya,” you greet, nodding. You turn to the other two boys and give them a small smile. “Osamu, Sunarin.”
“Hey.”
“‘Sup, Y/n.”
Atsumu laughs lightly. “Nice to see you, too, Y/n.” He suddenly notices Jeni’s presence and smiles down at her. “Hey, Jeni. You excited to be done with school for the summer?”
“Um, duh,” she says, like it’s obvious.
There’s silence amongst the six of you, and then Runa laughs. Runa laughs and then Jeni starts giggling and soon enough, everyone is laughing.
Eventually, though, the bell rings and all the campers are sent to their pre-assigned cabins. They all rush to put their things away, calling bunks and immediately making new friends.
“What cabin did you get assigned to you this year?” Atsumu asks, jogging up to you. Half of the counselors are tasked with setting the tables in the mess hall. Runa and you had gotten separated, but you hadn’t been fortunate enough to be separated from Atsumu.
You resist the strong urge to roll your eyes. “Robin,” you answer, not bothering to look at him.
“Oh, really?” You can hear his smirk as he speaks. “Guess we’re gonna be neighbors for the summer. I got Bluejay again.”
This time, you don’t stop the eye roll. You walk a little faster, trying to get away from him, but his legs are stupidly long and he immediately catches up with you. Frustrated, you stop in your tracks with a groan.
He stops, too, just in front of you and turns to look at you with a confused expression. “What?”
“What?” You repeat angrily. You don’t even know why you’re so upset. You thought you had gotten over this a while ago. Apparently, the conversations with your school friends and your mother didn’t do anything to the feelings you had for Atsumu last year. “Why do you keep following me? Why do you keep talking to me? What do you want!”
“Uh.” He blinks at you a couple times. “I’m confused.” You watch his bicep flex as he brings a hand up to scratch the back of his neck. “Why are you mad at me? I should be mad at you.”
“You should be mad at me? What the hell are you talking about? We had something last year— whether it was just a summer fling or something more, you weren’t supposed to just leave. You left without a word, so please tell me why you should be mad at me?”
“I did say something,” he says simply. The wind is blowing around you two, not cold, but picking up as it’s getting later. He furrows his brows and narrows his eyes. “I poured my stupid feelings into that stupid letter, told you to text me, and you didn’t. So, yeah, I should be mad at you.”
“What letter?” You ask, still blinded by the anger building up in you. He stays quiet, face going from confused to understanding. “Atsumu, what letter?”
He opens his mouth to talk, but the bell rings once more. Before you know it, hundreds of kids are rushing towards the mess hall. You lock eyes with Atsumu and huff out a breath of warm air. “We’re talking about this later. Ten o’clock at the lake, okay?”
He nods, then turns to the kids and plasters a smile on his face. You do the same. Runa walks towards you with furrowed brows, unaware of what has just happened, but more than willing to hear you rant about it later.

Pretty Neighbor
PAIRING - Kita Shinsuke x Reader WC - 5.6K GENRE - Slight angst (not with Kita) CW - copious amount of lead up, shitty breakup with an unnamed ex, Suna is an instigative little shit, a creepy neighbor, brief mention of minor injury SYNOPSIS - This wasn't how it was supposed to go. You weren't supposed to feel stuck after a bad breakup, crashing in the spare room of your best friend's older brother. But one of his neighbors starts to make you feel a little alive again. Leadup to part two.
A/N: if you wonder how I envisioned this apartment setup
PART 2
This wasn’t how it was supposed to be. How anything was supposed to be.
Tomorrow you were supposed to be moving in with the boy you thought you would be spending the rest of your life with. But one week ago, he had decided that you were never going to work out.
He decided; on his own.
He had places to go. You? You weren’t sure yet.
So here you were, sitting on the floor of what had been both of your house, now empty spare the last of both of your stuff, calling the one friend you thought might be able to help.
“Thanks for calling, please don’t. Send a text. What are we? 80?”
You rolled your eyes and waited for the tone indicating that you could leave your message.
“Sunarin, come on. I know you hate calling when it could be a text. You know I know that. You know I don’t call unless its something that shouldn’t be texted.” You sighed softly, trying to keep the tears out of your voice. You took another shaky breath in, “Could you just call—”
Your phone vibrated in your hand and you glanced at the screen, “thank you.” You tapped quickly on the notification reading ‘accept and hang up’ and pressed the phone back to your ear.
“What d’ya want?” His voice was muffled and you could tell that his mouth was full of something.
You sniffed lightly, “He left me, Rin.” You were met with mostly silence but you could hear the sound of wood dropping against wood. Him putting down his chopsticks.
“The fuck do you mean he left you?” His voice was clear now, it was clear his attention was now fully on you. “For the weekend? The night?” The only thing filling the silence was your sniffles for a moment. He said your name softly to get your attention back.
You could feel the tears fill your eyes slightly. “For good," you finally answered. "That’s what he said. I think it was the truth.” You heard a sigh from the other end of the line, followed by a series of angry grumbles. “Can I crash on your couch until I get back on my feet?”
“Idiot.” He mumbled, you could almost see him rolling his eyes at you. “Why are you even asking? Fuck the couch, you can crash in the second bedroom, lucked out and don’t have a roommate. It’s yours for as long as you need.”
“I won’t be there long, I promise.” You muttered, trying to keep the sound of crying out of your voice, knowing you wouldn’t hear the end of it if he could hear it. “I swear I’m putting in housing applications and I’ll—”
“You’re annoying, shutup.” You felt a small smile tug at your lips, he wouldn’t change, at least that was comforting. “Come pick up your key in like," he paused for a second and you could almost picture him leaning to stare at his kitchen clock, "an hour?”
You nodded before realizing that he couldn’t see you. Before you could correct yourself, and verbalize your agreement he spoke again, “you do know I can’t see you nodding, right?”
You let out a soft laugh. “Hey, but you caught on, right?” You heard a snort from the other line before you both fell quiet for a moment.
“Do you want me to kick his ass?”
You sighed and your voice cracked. “I just need a place to crash.”
The next day and a half consisted of you trying to convince Suna to let you just put your mattress in the spare room, nothing else, just a few boxes and a mattress on the floor. And him promptly and continuously convincing you to put more in. More and more until eventually it almost looked like you lived there.
You tried to leave almost no trace of yourself in the rest of the apartment, plants on the front doorstep, a pair of slippers by the front walkway, the only clues that you were there outside of your room.
Your room had filled up a little, a shelf holding a tv, a drawer nightstand, a closet half full. You’d tucked away your bathroom things into a corner shelf and some food and dishes into a drawer. Not even 10% of your things from a whole house fit into a small room.
This wasn’t how it was supposed to be. Laying on your back on the carpet of the living room of an apartment that wasn’t yours as Suna cooked both of you dinner in the kitchen.
“You have to eat, what do you want?” Suna's voice floated to you from around the corner in the kitchen.
“Ice cream.”
“That’s not food.” He called back. You rolled your eyes and glanced towards the kitchen. You could see his shadow moving across the dining room as he tried to dig in his fridge for food to make the two of you.
“How do we feel about pasta tonight? Got this recipe that Osamu sent over that we could try.” You glared at his shadow. Pasta sounded really good and you hated that he thought of it. “Don’t act like you’re not in love with pasta, I remember from high school.”
“You don’t know me.” You grumbled like a stubborn child from your spot on the floor. You heard a scoff come from the kitchen as you propped yourself up to a sitting position.
“Sure, you only spent, what? 90% of your time at my house with my little sister. But I don’t know you.” You rolled your eyes at him again even though you knew he couldn’t see you. “Go get more of your stuff from your car, bum, I’ll start the food.”
You sighed in annoyance but pulled yourself off the ground anyways, dragging your feet towards the door where you could slide on your slippers. “I’ll be right back, if I don’t get killed.” He barked out a laugh but ignored you as you unlocked the door and stepped out.
You sighed as you shut the door behind yourself, your steps slowing as you made your way down the stairs that led to Suna’s front door. There were a few kids running around the patch of grass that acted as the center of the small apartment complex. Their laughter and chasing made you smile as they tried to take advantage of the dimming sunlight.
Suna had told you that the tenants of his apartments were largely made up of students and recent graduates but that there were a couple families living there. Living right on the edge of the apartments meant you never had to deal with the kids running into your way or with even seeing them from your windows. Most of your windows were covered by trees anyways.
But in moments like this, when you were feeling down and walking the short distance to where your car was parked, seeing them laugh and run so freely brought you a sense of peaceful nostalgia. A longing for the days when you didn’t feel the need to have it all figured out, when you could just laugh and play and your biggest concern was if your mom would force you to eat your vegetables when you got in.
Back in the days when you weren’t aware of the other concerns you should have. When you didn’t get the rug pulled out from under you by a boy who decided randomly to drop you when you’d made him a priority and planned at least your next few years around staying with him.
You scowled as your thoughts turned sour—your nose scrunching up. You bit the inside of your cheek and huffed as you reached your car, easily pulling open the trunk to assess what you had the energy to bring up with you at this moment.
There was a backpack full of random things you’d originally missed, an extra pillow, an extra pair of sneakers—the only pair you brought actually, and a box of cookies you’d impulsively bought yourself this afternoon after 'officially' leaving the house. You huffed as you piled your things into your arms. One item at a time.
You glared at the box of cookies, taunting you from its spot on your car’s seat. You wouldn’t be able to grab it and still open the door. You’d have to come back.
You sighed as you bumped your hip against your car’s back door to close it before rounding to the back. Leaning up on your tiptoes, you reached your free arm up to curl your fingertips over the edge of the trunk door and pull it back down. Adjusting the items in your arms you started your way back to Suna’s apartment.
You hummed along to a tune stuck in your head as you walked carefully, trying to not drop anything as you trekked towards the stairs. The sound of a car door closing pulled your attention over to the parking lot. You glanced over your shoulder as you watched a man ducking to grab a bag out of his back seat.
Carefully tracking him with your eyes, you kept walking. He started to lean up and you saw the top of his head first, grayish hair coming into view. As he leaned up further you noticed the ends of his hair were a different color, black to be exact. You tilted your head. What an interesting choice.
As he started to straighten out, your ignorance caught up to you. Your toe caught on a raised piece of concrete and your eyes widened as your feet stumbled. You flipped your head back to facing forward and struggled to keep your things in your arms as you rebalanced yourself.
You cursed as you dropped one of your shoes. You glared at the shoe for a second before huffing as you bent at your knees to reach it, careful to not let anything else tumble from your arms as you replaced the shoe in the stack.
“Evenin’.” You looked up, blinking in shock as you slowly straightened up, to see the man you had just been staring at standing only a few steps from you. He looked pretty, shiny hair that the last rays of sun bounced off of, shiny brown eyes carefully watching you move. Oh. He was very pretty.
You swallowed nervously and cleared your throat. “Evenin’.” You let out a closed lipped smile and watched the corner of his lips tug in return. The weight of his eyes on you felt heavy, feeling like he witnessed your every move and quickly moved to resume your previous movements.
You took the last few steps towards the stairs and quickly scaled them. Willing the door that shared a porch with Suna’s door, just a couple feet to the right from our door, to not open so you could avoid more possible interaction.
You shifted the things in your arms and reached for the doorknob, twisting to glance back over your shoulder as you did to see the pretty stranger. Or, pretty neighbor? He seemed to have lingered where you both had been for a moment because he was only a couple of paces from it now, walking leisurely towards the stairs just to the left of Suna’s apartment. You willed yourself to look away before you got caught acting like a creep and pushed your way inside the apartment.
You sighed as your shoe tumbled back out of your arms and glared at it again. “Stop dropping stuff.” Suna teased, rounding the corner of the kitchen to see you in the front hall, slipping your slippers off. You glanced up at him, his bangs falling on either side of his face as his yellow eyes squinted at you playfully, smirk pulling on his lips. “Didja get all your stuff out?”
“Nope.” You popped the p and pulled your shoe back into your arms again. “Met a neighbor though.” You tilted your head in thought, “well, kind of. Didn’t actually get a name. Just said hi.” You hummed and shrugged your shoulders as you started towards the hall that led to the rooms. “I think I’m gonna set up a couple things while I wait for your ass to finish my food.”
He scoffed and flicked his eyes up to the ceiling in a half-assed eye roll before dipping back into the kitchen. “Now you want food. Gonna make me into a regular housewife, huh?” He laughed as he raised his voice so you could still hear him as you got further into the house. “Careful now, gonna make Mizu fall in love with ya if you convert me like that.” You snorted as you kicked your door shut behind you.
You sighed as you looked around the room, nothing was organized or put together. Your entire bedding was piled on the bed, other random things piled with it, a box of cords at the very end. Looking at the fading light, you realized that you’d forgotten your room lamp back at the house, suddenly grateful that you’d have to go back the next day to finish the cleaning.
You opened your blinds to try and let the last of the sunlight in, illuminating the room best you could as you searched for something to light up your room. Swiping your phone open, you hit play on some music you could sing along to as you went about sifting through the box of electronics. 10 minutes later and you had your TV plugged in and some fairy lights strung up around the window. Enough for now.
You wanted nothing more than to curl up in bed. To let yourself rot into the mattress. You knew there was a fat chance in hell that Suna would ever let you hide away in you room the whole time. You sighed and went to work quickly on the rest of the room, clearing the bed and making it so that you could easily crawl into it once you were done with Suna’s mandatory socialization.
“Come on, I’ve got food for you.” Suna popped his head into your room easily, watching as you zoned out staring at the bed, pillows arranged in a specific way, the way that your boy- your ex-boyfriend had always liked it.
You shook your head and followed him back out of the room, following when he motioned for you to sit on the couch and set a warm bowl in your lap. You smiled down at the bowl of pasta, your favorite sauce spread across it and laughed a little as Suna pressed a pair of chopsticks into your hand.
“Here, eat, like this-” he teasingly began to adjust your hand to try and puppet your fingers into working the chopsticks properly.
“Fuck off before I stab you with these chopsticks.” He laughed but backed up and plopped down on the couch across from you.
“So what neighbor didja meet?” He asked, shoving his mouth full of food and chewing obnoxiously. You swore he did it just to get on your nerves.
“The one whose stairs are near my window.” He hummed in acknowledgement and mumbled something through a full mouth that you didn’t quite make out. “Huh?” You screwed up your face before taking another bite.
He swallowed his mouthful before talking again. “Nothin’.” He looked at you as you shoved another bite into your mouth, a look with narrowed eyes that tracked your movements easily, a look you knew meant he was analyzing you.
“So, Mizu’s got some guy friends, I’m thinkin’ we could get you some numbers, you could pick your rebound?”
You stopped halfway through putting a bite in your mouth and stared at him in disbelief. You pulled the bite back out of your mouth and let it fall back into the bowl, an act you’d be ashamed of yourself for doing if you were in front of anyone besides him.
“You’re joking.” His silence and expecting stare made you realize he was not, in fact, joking with you. “No. Absolutely not.” You rolled your eyes and resumed eating.
“Don’t say that! It could be good for you!” He exclaimed, waving a hand around at you. You shook your head, knowing that this wouldn’t be the end of this conversation tonight, or for your entire stay.
It was late when Suna finally let you go to sleep, his chatter and constant jokes, skirting around the topic of your now ex, trying to convince you to find someone you could 'use maybe a couple times and then drop.'
You knew it was his way of making sure when you went into your room tonight that you would be going straight to sleep. That you would be too tired to cry or even think about the situation you were in. It somewhat worked.
It felt like you were waiting for everything. Waiting for an apartment application to come back or you would be stuck crashing on Rin’s couch. Waiting for the correct credentials to be posted for a new job or you would be stuck at the one you so desperately wanted to leave.
Waiting for the lost feeling to disappear or you would be stuck crying over the boy that was almost yours forever. Waiting and stuck.
Waiting and stuck.
That was how you were feeling in the morning, as you dragged yourself out of bed early. As you pulled on some workout clothes, the only ones you’d not thrown into temporary storage that you didn’t mind possibly ruining.
How you were feeling as you skipped breakfast, settling on only grabbing your water bottle, and pulled your shoes on at your door. How you felt as you trudged to the car in the cold, telling yourself that while you were working on cleaning your old house the whole day, you would thank yourself for wearing a t-shirt and shorts, even if it was frigid this morning.
That was how you felt when you nearly ran straight into a neighbor.
As you were silently cursing yourself for not looking up as you walked, the sudden stop and step back that came from both your feet as a result of a near collision. You glanced up and were met with the same warm eyes you’d seen last night. The same attractive neighbor that you had embarrassed yourself in front of, twice, now.
“Mornin’.” He gave you a kind smile as he looked down at you.
You found yourself rushing out a “mornin’” as well but dashing away before he could say anything else.
A glance over your shoulder proved that he hadn’t stayed in place for long, moving to his car, placing his bag into the same seat you’d seen him pull it out of the day before. You sighed as you got in your car, stupid cute neighbor.
Your sour mood had lifted a little with the sound of his small drawl, his accent seeping through in just a single word. His deep voice had left you with a warm feeling in your body but you chalked it up to the fact that you kept embarrassing yourself in front of him.
Shaking your head at yourself, you quickly queued up a playlist for the day and plugged in the aux. Pulling out of the parking lot easily, you started your way towards your old house.
It was the last day you were required to be there, your last day to be able to clean the place from the disaster that your roommates and now ex-boyfriend had left you alone to deal with. Your mood mostly stood on the lines of exasperated for the first couple of hours, irritation flooding your veins the more that you had to clean.
And three hours in, when it started to rain outside, you cursed yourself for the outfit decision. And then you cursed the sky for picking up on your bad mood and deciding that the weather needed to match.
Your ex graced you with his presence for a few hours - three to be precise. You counted them. Praying that he’d act slightly torn up for ditching you out of the blue like he was. That he’d show some sign of care that you weren’t going to be around to do things for him anymore, the laundry, the finances, the cleaning and grocery shopping.
And then the wave of irritation hit as you realized... what the hell had he done for you?
You’d glared daggers into his back for the majority of the time he was there. As he tried to be friendly, make jokes with you. And when he was leaving, when you still had to stay and continue cleaning, that’s when the fresh wave of sadness hit. As he hugged you, talking like he wasn’t going to see you again, giving you a kiss on the forehead, his posture dangerously close to that of when he used to dip down to kiss you.
You watched him drive away and sat on the ground for the next half hour, in the rain and crying.
When you finally pulled yourself off the ground again, going back to cleaning, you tried to let irritation seep back into your veins, an easier emotion to deal with than the flurry of others you felt. All you wanted was to get back to Rin’s and collapse.
You were at the house for a total of 13 hours that day. Not even finished by the end of it but content with the work you’d done and the effort you'd put in to try and finish. It was almost 11pm when you were dragging yourself to your car for the last time, the last of your things loaded up, fresh bruises coating your body and a couple gashes across your legs that had dirt and dried blood caked into them.
Your entire body was begging to be cleaned and go to sleep.
Suna wasn’t there when you got back. You knew that the second you pulled up. His car missing from the spot next to where you’d been parking your car.
The achy feeling quickly taking over your body was left ignored as you pulled a few of your items out of your car, choosing carefully what could wait until tomorrow. Your eyes subconsciously scanned for the cute neighbor even though you weren’t exactly expecting him to be out at this time.
You were pleasantly surprised to see him a few doors down, smiling as he helped an elderly woman carry her groceries to her apartment. You were also pleased that he didn’t seem to notice you and that you hadn’t been three for three for embarrassing yourself when you saw him.
Making sure to lock the door after yourself when you entered the empty apartment, you let out a breath you didn’t know you’d been holding. The realization that you’d never be back in that house was weighing heavy on your shoulders, along with the grime and wounds (both physical and mental) of the day.
Nothing sounded better to you than a shower and with Rin not being home, you could take one without worrying he might need to use the bathroom while you were using it. A shower and then immediately you would go to sleep, be productive again tomorrow.
The next morning you let yourself sleep in. Well, not exactly sleep in, but let yourself stay in bed without forcing yourself to get up.
The window in your room let light filter in slowly instead of all at once, your body unaccustomed to no longer having blackout curtains hanging. The cold morning air brushed over your skin and you were reminded that you had gone to sleep clad only in a pair of shorts after your shower.
You stayed in bed for most of the day. Left to go grab a few things from your car and bring them up, put them in their places. Grabbed a snack from the kitchen. Suna being at classes and work most of the day meant no one was there to lecture you when most of your time was spent scrolling though your phone in bed.
You told yourself that you could be an adult again tomorrow.
You were; an adult the next day that is.
You pulled yourself out of bed, finished unloading your car, cleaning Suna’s spare bedroom up. And then, deciding to keep busy, kept cleaning. Did all the dishes in Suna’s sink and swept his floors, vacuumed the carpets. When you were done with that you couldn’t bring yourself to sit back in bed, as much as you wanted to. You’d settled on loading your laptop into its bag and gathering up your laundry basket to head down to the complex’s laundry mat.
You switched between watching shows off your laptop and using it to organize things for your hopeful new job as your laundry ran. Typing out to do lists and not berating yourself when you accidentally let your laundry sit in the machine a little long sometimes.
When you were finally finished and were packing up, the sun had started to pull its light from the sky. It was still plenty bright, but you could tell it was evening now. Suna would be home soon and you’d love to be there when he saw his apartment clean.
Your proud and productive mood came to an abrupt halt; a tight feeling wrapping in your chest as you neared the stairs to Suna’s apartment and there was a figure sitting on the bottom of the stairs.
It wasn’t anyone you recognized, and he’d left enough space where you could possibly squeeze by, but the sudden nerves that ran through your body were enough to keep you from even attempting to do that. Your steps slowed at the prospect of having to talk to a complete stranger wrecked your nerves and you cursed yourself when your voice came out meeker than expected.
“Excuse me, sir, if I could get by?” He’d already been looking at you before you’d spoke and you were now just a few feet away from him.
“Yeah.” Your relief at his words was fleeting as you quickly realized that, despite his affirmative, he was making no move himself out of the way.
“Sorry, I just have to get up the stairs.” The nerves wound tighter in your chest, uneasiness making you queasy as you adjusted your grip on your laundry basket.
“Go ahead.” He said, staring straight at you. It felt like a challenge and it wasn’t one you were willing to take.
“I don’t want to accidentally hit you, if you wouldn’t mind just for a moment—” you were trying to be nice, to keep your voice steady as your hands shook but he cut you off.
“Are you saying I can’t take a hit?” His volume raised slightly, he clearly looked irritated now. “I can take a hit; I’ve been hit before.” You opened your mouth to try and calm him down but someone from behind you replied for you.
“S’common cour’sy.” The voice was deep and held a threatening air to it. You jumped slightly at the suddenness of it but were steadied with a burning hand on your upper arm, making sure you didn’t get closer to the man on the stairs.
You looked up a caught a glimpse of gray and black hair - the cute neighbor. His usually kind eyes were fixed in a glare at the man in front of you both. His touch was light on your arm, gentle as he guided you to take a step back and he stepped in front of you.
“Yer only a couple complaints ‘way from getting’ kicked outta ‘ere. Watch yerself.” His deep voice was intimidating, calm, his words spoken with a matter-of-fact tone. Sure of himself. “Jus’ let the pre’y lady pass.”
Your cheeks burned at the use of ‘pretty lady’ to describe you, coming from the man you’d deemed ‘pretty neighbor.’ The burning was dull in comparison to the anxiousness you were feeling when the man from the stairs stood up, however.
“I don’t like the tone you’re asking in.”
The pretty neighbor seemed almost unphased. He stepped closer to the man, forcing him to step slightly away from the stairs. “Wasn’ askin’.” Almost unphased except for his voice coming out a little deeper than before, slightly darker tone, though still calm.
The pretty neighbor adjusted his stance, hand guiding you to stay behind him as he cleared a path to the stairs for you, now blocking the man from both you and the stairs. A small breath of relief washed over you as you quickly moved towards your now free path.
“Thank you.” You whispered it into his ear as you passed behind him, smiling as he gave you a short nod without taking his eyes from the man in front of him. You made your way up the stairs eager to escape the rising voice of the man you’d just met who was still being blocked by the pretty neighbor that you had now embarrassed yourself in front of all three times he’d seen you.
You locked the door behind you quickly, deadbolting it as well as you quickly retreated into the apartment. You dropped your laundry in your room and decided that a cup of water would probably ease the tightness in your chest that had been caused by the creepy man you’d just met.
You’d barely taken a sip when the handle to the front door started to wriggle. You stared, wide-eyed, frozen in place as fear started to take over. You swore you’d break the glass with how tight your grip had gone when the door creaked open.
“So I’m guessin’ you met the creep next door.” Suna’s voice reached your ears and you breathed out a sigh of relief, legs falling from under you as you moved to sit on the ground.
“Woah,” he held one hand up as the other shut and locked the door behind him, “he must’ve been a real weirdo today.” Suna set his bag down easily and walked over to you, crouching down in front of you with a head tilt. “What happened?”
You sighed as you looked up at him, his eyes held concern even though he seemed to radiate a relaxed demeanor. “Just wouldn’t let me pass to come up the stairs, I don’t know just was super weird.” He scoffed and shook his head. “You should’ve warned me.”
“Didn’t think I had to!” He exclaimed defensively, but helped you back to your feet carefully nonetheless. “Haven’t seen him in what feels like months, thought maybe he finally croaked.”
“Real sensitive of ya, Rin.” You rolled your eyes at him and went to take another sip of water.
“Yeah, yeah.” He waved his hand dismissively as he moved to leave the dining room where you stood and head off to his room. “Hey, y/n?” You looked up easily at the small change in his voice, softer and a little concerned.
“Just be careful ‘round him, he shares a porch with us. Make sure you’re carrying something to protect yourself if you come home late at night.” You swallowed hard at the implications but nodded in acknowledgment. He let a soft smile pass his face before he disappeared around the corner again.
The next few days around the apartments, you picked up working again. Long shifts, anything to distract yourself. You also found yourself peeking out your window, trying to catch a glimpse of the cute neighbor coming or going. You did a few times, always admiring the soft smiles he gave. He radiated a kind sort of energy while looking so put together.
He was very constant, you noticed after a few days. Leaving at the same time in the mornings, where you would briefly pass him on your way out as well, a small 'mornin’' passed between the two of you as you noticed each other. Always coming home just before dark, pulling his bag out of the same spot in his car. And the sun always left a ridiculously attractive shine on his gray and black hair.
You found yourself thinking about him every time Suna tried to convince you that one of Mizuki’s friends would be interested in ‘showing you a good time.’ Always declining Suna’s offers to set you up but secretly thinking about how nice it would be to finally know the name of the pretty neighbor.
It’s not like you were thinking about using him as your way to get over your ex, he was just... genuinely nice. He left you feeling warm and the idea of how constant he was, it was appealing. He wasn’t too awful to look at either. You cursed yourself every time those thoughts popped into your head though.
You couldn’t pretend that Suna’s offers didn’t get to you though. He made some solid points sometimes. Like how it wouldn’t hurt to be a little sexually active.
Coming out of a long relationship, you were used to being sexual active, but you didn’t want to use anybody so you resolved to take care of it yourself. Rin leaving for his weekly date night with Mizuki meant that he wouldn’t be back until late, if at all, tonight.
It meant that you had the perfect excuse to put a show on my tv and some headphones over your ears and to take care of it.
a/n sighs. rewriting this was a walk down memory lane. i first wrote this as i was going through this exact situation - except it was a female friend whose apartment i stayed in and she did not have a pretty neighbor who saved me from dealing with the creepy neighbor aha. anywho... part two next week <3
