A while ago I submitted this comic to a competition, it didn't make it, but that's okay, since I did it for me. It's a personal experience, a painful one. hope you like it <3 there was also a concept art page I did for it in case anyone's curious. Moonlight was my nickname, ray of sunshine was hers. ironically vivziepop's channel posted "Just look my way" a month later and man did we have a similar idea and look for the same concept!

The Sun and The Moon

nightlight 🌙

glistening beauty in the blue blanket of night

she drew the short straw and triumphed nonetheless

it is only on the drive home through a half-closed eye in which we notice her presence

she wastes no time 

begs our notice, desperately dancing so we cannot look away, urging her luminescence 

through every opening in my body and yours 

wrapping around our measly skeletal systems as if to force us to remember her when she has been replaced with an unrelenting golden guest

and even though we are miles away

even though we are laying hand in hand

even though you are at the grocery shop and I am waiting patiently for you to return 

even though you are with the stars 

surely beloved by the moon herself

and my trembling feet are reluctantly touching earthen soil 

I'd like to believe the asterisms of our little lives aren’t so quick to fade

and that in the craters I can find us entwined

a soul with a million faces

and sometimes, when I am just greedy enough to wish for one thing more

I try to spot my own face and hope that it is blending edges with yours.

I asked for how long?

you said forever

so I carried myself over the hill until I could see the other side

then I committed each fistful of soil to memory

carefully so I would not have to climb it again

and I laid there in the grass

like you said, forever 

letting the vines grow over my mouth and eyes

letting the poppies drown me in their bid to scrape sky

I let myself shine twice as brightly 

on the other side of the earth so you would not have to see it

and I would not have to see you

I've been taking the deepest of breaths recently

and some reports say it is a little colder outside

so I let the mercy of my scarf and gloves reinvent me 

a new beast

who will allow the icicles to ornament my doorway

and make a frozen cage so you may not come to me

and I can not come to you

but I know much more than I can believe

and that is that if you made the slightest of movements towards me

I would tear the vines from my face and let poppy punctures polka dot my skin 

I would let the swaying grass kiss my limbs as I shamelessly tumbled from the top of that hill at light speed for the last time 

before I would dim my shine to a flickering echo 

so that I would not leave burns on your glistening eyes

forever is cold

so I would wrap you in my scarf and gloves and finally you would be the warm one

and I would let the icicles mold me a barbed and brilliant backbone instead

for now, I will just try to forget 

that I am occupying a space in the sky which I had wholly reserved for you 

and I will pen every combination of these words to hand from the base of my piteous hill to a shooting star

in hopes that it might graze your ear sometime during its forever journey

and whisper to you everything I could not say.
