Hi there! Hope you’re well and not melting away in the humidity. I am super excited to be planning a trip to Japan again after almost four years away. Considering I lived 1) in Kansai-ish territory and 2) near Nagoya, I never got much chance to explore Tokyo outside of the usual tourist places. I already have Jinbocho on my list (along with one of the Aoyama flower market tea houses and Nakano Broadway)— do you have any suggestions for what’s fun in Tokyo for someone who is a little more experienced with the area?
Welcome back!
Now here's a challenge! I don’t know whether you're looking for new & trendy, or old & traditional, and a lot depends on the season, but…
1) Stroll from Ueno Park or Nezu to Yanaka and Sendagi. See if you can find Snake Street and follow its curves. Yanaka is as Kyoto as Tokyo gets. Yanaka and Kagurazaka.
2) Shibamata for more old Edo vibes. Cross the river on the ferry. Only ferry in Tokyo.
3) Sunamachi Ginza Shopping District in Koto-ku: another old area that's being transformed by gentrification.
4) Get lost in Shibuya Station, just for fun, but take tranquilizers with you. Walk from Shibuya via Shoto to Yoyogi Park. Shoto is one of the wealthiest areas in Tokyo, but it's not as famous as, say, Azabu-Juban or Denenchofu. Stop at Levain for bread and Fuglen for coffee.
5) Explore the swanky, hipsterish areas of Kichijōji, Shimokitazawa, Daikanyama. Take the Setagaya Tram Line from Sangenjaya to Gotokuji and visit the temple birthplace of the famous maneki-neko. Lots of tiny shops and quaint shopping streets in a relatively upmarket area along the way.
6) Okutama. Walk along the Mitake Valley Riverside Trail, from Ikusabata to Sawai, stop for sake at the Sawanoi Sake Brewery, visit the Gyokudo Museum. You can continue past Mitake to the Okutama Fishing Centre. If you are here in autumn, you'll see breathtaking autumn colours.
7) Yokohama! Not exactly Tokyo, but a nice day trip. Minato-Mirai, Yokohama Foreign General Cemetery (no, seriously, Google it), Sankeien Gardens.
I'm not a food expert, but there are really nice restaurants in all these areas. Add Yakitori Alley in Yurakucho to your list: great atmosphere. (There's a maze under the tracks between Yurakucho and Shimbashi. Well worth a visit, but it gets a bit dystopian.) Museums? Fukagawa Edo Museum in Kiyosumi, all the art museums in Ueno Park. Plants 'n stuff? Yumenoshima Tropical Greenhouse Dome. Shinjuku Gyoen remains my favourite Tokyo park/garden.
It's very touristy, but so iconic that it's really worth it: New York Bar and Grill in the Park Hyatt Tokyo. Expensive though. Cocktail Works is a craft gin bar in Kanda (close to Jimbocho), and a very good alternative (but without the glorious view) (which is the whole point) (actually).
Oh, by the way, Piss Alley in Shinjuku? So yesterday. Try Sankaku Chitai in Sangenjaya or Nogecho in Yokohama instead. Shh, don't tell anyone.
Best free and still relatively uncrowded view of skyline: Bunkyo Civic Center observation lounge. Shh again.
Would this suffice? If you send more details about your timing and what you're interested in, I'll happily add more.
Enjoy the planning as much as the trip! 😊

"I think a visit to the Sunamachi Ginza would be nice." Oh, the rice cooker's beeping. She turns to turn the little alarm off before returning to Gentaro's omelette. "It's been a while since we just got to take a walk and try street food. I feel like I find a new recipe to try at home every time we do."
Flip! Listen to that sizzle. "Or we could do something a bit quieter, like a picnic. Didn't you have that list of places for couples that Mom was trying to give you without me noticing?" She smiles a bit. "Which I did, by the way."

still waiting for my girl part 2 :)
love! i am working on it! i promise! buuuuuuut, i might or might not post another short story before i'll update my girl. but because it's been so long i'll present you a small wip of my favourite part of what i've written so far for my girl pt.2.
That’s how the rain found you. At the old table with two bowls of fresh hot oden, ten steaming yakitori, a plate with five gyozas and two chocolate imagawayaki. You sat across Ran with Rindou at your side and as it usually happened now chatted about everything and nothing at all. Ran could never tell what you and his brother were talking about, but you two talked a lot with each other and although he was the one to connect you, he lately had a vague feeling he wasn’t needed around anymore. This feeling wasn’t bitter. It was sweet. And unexpected.
“Absolutely not?” You exclaimed and Rindou raised his eyebrows in question. A sneaky smile on his face. “I am telling you, Rin, I wasn’t! Why won’t you believe me?”
“Let me tell you why…”
You giggled, slapping Rindou on his arm and he smiled at you. This time sincere. “Anyway. Do you want to go to Hirizo?” “To Hirizo? Why? To swim?”
“Well, yeah. Didn’t know Ran’s slowness could be transmitted with saliva.” The hit of your palm that he gets across his head is well deserved and he doesn’t even complain, only wincing a bit. “So? Are you in? We can go for a day or two.”
You shrug. You have school soon. Ran watches as you mull over Rindou’s suggestion. You bite your lip and squint your eyes, probably calculating something. In the end you nod. “Let’s make it three days. Would your new boss South be okay with it?”
A sudden gust of water and air nearly makes Rindou jump. He turns his head around looking at the wet pavement and occasional people running across the narrow street to get to the dry safety of shops and cafes. Even in the bad weather it’s still chaotic in Sunamachi. This kind of busy life is almost poetic.
“Rindou, why didn’t you tell me the rain was hitting you?” You ask, and you sound almost offended. Nor Ran who listens to you nor Rindou understand what you’re talking about. They only get it when you wipe Rindou’s drenched arm with the back of your palm and take your jacket - for which Kakucho teased you wearing in summer until Ran glared at him - off and throw it over his shoulders. “You can get sick. Move closer to me, the rain doesn’t reach here. And take off your glasses. They are all fogged up. Give them to me.”
Since early childhood Rindou was always trying to prove to Ran [and everyone else around] that despite him being the younger brother he is mature and responsible and independent. And every single thing that adults should be. It was like a never ending contest of proving Rindou’s worth. When they were still young Ran would always scold his brother for it and say that it’s stupid. He would say that he doesn’t need to prove his worth. You are Haitani, that’s all you ever need. And so Ran’s - or anybody else’s - babying never ended well. Not when Ran got involved with street gangs and tried his best to not let Rindou get suffocated by this dangerous world. And obviously not when just after they got released Ran messed up with yakuza and they came looking for him. Not ever Rindou liked being protected.
And so when you carefully pull his glasses off his face and wipe them with the hem of your t-shirt and Rindou looks so soft and lost, Ran’s heart races somewhere he hasn’t ever been before.
“Now, help me finish this oden.” You pronounce returning Rindou’s glasses. You push a half-empty bowl to him and nod at it with your chin. “I’ll go bring you new chopsticks and a spoon. Wait a second.”
“Don’t bother. You’ll need to cross the street and it’s raining. I am fine with yours.”
Ran watches Rindou cut an egg open with chopsticks. He eats it and then he eats fish cakes and vegetables. He doesn’t leave a single drop of broth. And just when he is done you bring a yakitori to his face and he eats it too, only to share chocolate imagawayaki after. The chocolate sauce stains your fingers as you tear the sweet in two pieces.
The noise from rain and people’s voices all around do a poor job of muffling Ran’s furious cruel heart. It beats and it beats violently and Ran is so afraid someone might notice. He doesn’t want anyone to know it yet. He needs time to let this awful thought of love he is feeling for you to reside.
You in his heart; the most terrifying thing.
It’s unfair to hide it from you, because you are quite open with your own feelings. Ran knows that you like him and you like him quite a lot. But it’s stupid to think of him that you won’t notice. That you won’t hear him. That you won’t feel his heart bleeding. That you won’t want to smear your hands with his ugly love.

Fun Facts in SMT Apocalypse
If you choose to unseal Krishna, Nanashi touches the Ark with his dominant right hand. If you refuse and Dagda forces you, he uses his left hand, the one with the tattoo.
The guards outside Shinjuku and Kinshicho change between story events. At the start of the game, before you can visit Shinjuku, Kinshicho has Hunter guards. When Tokyo is divided by alignment territories, Powers guard Kinshicho and a demon that looks like Frankenstein’s Monster guards Shinjuku. The Hunters return after the truce ends. When Shesha eats everyone’s souls, a Gaean monk guards one gate of Kinshicho and an Ashura-Kai member guards Shinjuku. I noticed this on an Anarchy playthrough, so I don’t know if the Hunters return on Bonds.
If you’re playing a New Game+ and bring Odin to a Shesha fight, Shesha will recoil at Gungnir the same way he would with other blessed weapons. Specifically, rather than ‘It pierced through the resistance!’, it’ll say ‘Gungnir unleashed its might!’ I haven’t tested this with pierce skills.
Conversation skills don’t (normally) work on Metatron. If you try, you get a message that your words don’t reach YHVH’s servant. The exception I found is Fundraise, but only if you Bind it first.
You can sleep on the Throne on Anarchy, but nobody wakes you up.
The Minami Sunamachi quest has a different script on Anarchy. In both versions, Nanashi searches for a demon room by room, finds nothing, and then gets ambushed by the demon. Normally, the party is unusually chatty, getting increasingly frustrated before giving up. On Anarchy, the narration laconically notes that the rooms are empty, and Nanashi decides to go back to the Association for more details.
The blacksmith in Mikado is a young woman called S. In the previous game, K says that the single-letter names are like titles; his predecessor was J and his successor will be L, and once they get to Z, it’ll cycle back to A. The blacksmith in SMT4 was Q, so S is his successor’s successor.
Akira share some quirks with his parallel timeline counterparts. He appears to be a habitual nicknamer like Demonoid Akira, and his speech on how he’s going to use the Archangels to build Mikado is similar to Human Akira’s on how he’s going to use demons.
Flynn was born the same year Nanashi became a Hunter Cadet.
I should check to see if you have to complete any quests by a certain day, or if you can put them off. Do the quests with Ken change if Hallelujah is the boss, or if he’s dead? It’d be cool if it does.
