Own my own mind
Summary: Suna has had enough of the abuse she has received from her father. The person that once has hit you will never change. So she puts a stop to it but just around the corner another blow comes to her. Can she keep her strength to fight for life she deserves? Come and follow her down this path.
Can also read it on AO3.
Suna had wanted a little break from everyone in Korhan villa so she went to her family's new home. It has been weeks since her talk with Kaya about leaving for London. She still was confused but Kaya’s treatment of her was disarming her. Still she couldn’t make up her mind. So many what if’s running through her head because of her previous experiences. Suna really needed to start healing her mind and she couldn’t do it here.
Of course, even here the drama followed her. It seemed that once again her father was back to his old ways and the things she had built in her mind started to crumble. Once again she was laying on the floor with Kazim screaming over her body but this time there was no Kaya to protect her. How could she be so stupid? How could she allow her mind to play such tricks on her? She had to know better.
“You are such a disgrace to this family. Third failed marriage. Maybe I need to lock you in the basement till I find some idiot that can deal with you.” Kazim roared after hearing his oldest daughter's conversation with her mother and aunt. Once again she was someone she could dispose off like some kind of trash. His rage was followed by another slap that landed on Suna’s right cheek. It was like that slap really restarted her brain. No, she won’t allow him to walk over her. Her own rage that she had stored in herself was bubbling over the edges. She was Sönmez now, she was married to the man that stood up for her. Time to stand up for herself and show that she was worth the name she was wearing. Suna stood up, spitting blood on the floor.
“Oh really, father, I am a disgrace to this family. I am still married to Korhan’s grandson.” stated Suna, coming closer to her father, who for once in his life seemed scared of her. Good, she liked to see him scared of her. “You are the disgrace of this family for not being able to provide us with the life we deserve. You are the one who sold out his own daughters to rich men to grab cushy money and live a lavish life. So don’t you dare tell me I am a disgrace to this family because I am not part of it anymore and have never been.”
“Suna!”exclaimed her mother.
Suna didn’t even turn to look at her, still looking at her father and said: “What, mother? Am I too harsh to him? Am I throwing back taunts that he so easily flicked at me? You are as guilty as him for not protecting me and Seyran from this. I had to protect her by taking on twice as much of his abuse. I wish you all well and happy life but don’t you dare to come close to me and my family ever again, or I will show you what kind of disgrace you raised.”
With all said and done she was out of doors of that house. Wow, that really felt freeing. Finally she left out everything that had been choking her since childhood. Now she had to find Kaya and talk with him. It really was time to take matters in her own hands. She was ready to trust him. Taxi was waiting for her at the door but she was ashamed to get in it, looking like a mess. Oh hell with it, she just needed to get to her husband and the storm was raging outside. It felt like the sky would fall down. She sat in the back of the taxi, telling the guy the address.
Something was bothering her the closer they were getting to the house. Suna looked out of the window at the raging sea but noticed a weird pile under the tree. They were only five minutes away from the house.
“Please, stop here and wait a few minutes.”
“Madam, it is not safe out there.” the taxi driver told Suna but she really had to see what that weird pile was. Maybe someone needed help in this horrible weather.
“Then would you, please, escort me. I will pay extra for it.”
The driver walked to her side of the car, opening the door and holding an umbrella over both of them. They started to walk closer to the pile but the closer they got the more like a human body it looked. The lightning strike made everything around them go bright, and then she noticed a familiar mess of hair and silver chains.
“KAYA!” she screamed and started to run to her husband's side. She fell to her knees and turned his body on the back. Suna felt something warm touch her hand. It was blood. Her husband's head was bleeding. Suna screamed again in despair like a banshee.
“Madam?” the taxi driver asked tentatively.
“Please, call an ambulance and police. Someone had attacked my husband. Please, do it quickly.”
The man nodded and walked a bit further away from the couple on the ground. Suna took off her scarf that was around her neck and wrapped Kaya’s head as carefully as she could, constantly muttering: “Don’t you dare to leave me, Kaya Sönmez, don’t you dare. You have so much to show me in this world. Ambulance will soon be here. You just have to hold on and listen to my voice.”
Suna could hear all the sirens going off, so she pressed a kiss to Kaya’s forehead, whispering: “You hear that, Kaya. They are coming for you.”
After that everything was a blur. Suna and Kaya were packed in an ambulance. Police promised to come and talk with them to the hospital. When they reached the hospital, she was separated from her husband because doctors wanted to look her over too. Suna had forgotten that she had cut a corner of the lip and bruised cheek. All her thoughts were with her husband. The hospital gave her some pajamas because her clothes were evidence now. Finally after a few hours she was in the hospital room with her husband and mother in law who seemed to have one of her clarity days. She wasn’t flinging insults at Suna and that was a start.
“I know that you think I don’t deserve your son but I really love him. I hope that one day you can see clearly that I am not taking him away from you.”
“I know that, child. Simply my other side is more vicious but even she has some respect for you after today. You brought him to safety and protected him like a real wife should do. You are good for him and we will try to come to terms with it.”
“Do you know who did it to him? Is it because of revenge?”
“I have no idea, Suna, but the police will deal with it. Worry about your husband right now.”
“I always worry about him.”
“And he worries about you. You are two sides of one coin. Both abused, neglected and used in the plot of other peoples games. We promise you and him that you are free of those obligations. Go live your life.”
“Not yet, Nükhet. This time is my time to show everyone what kind of disappointment I am.”
“Are you ready to burn all the bridges, child?”
“For myself and him, I will do everything. Those bridges were shaky and slowly burning to start off. Nobody touches my family and walks freely.”
Nükhet finally saw what her son had seen in this girl. Under all that abuse was lioness ready to protect what is hers. There seemed to be no more veil of fear like something had ripped it off. By the look of Suna’s face, she knew what had happened.
*****
Next morning was a rough one. Kaya was still unconscious but Suna could answer the police's questions. They showed her a video from security cameras showing some man following Kaya. That man looked quite familiar to her. Then the man turned his face to cameras to hide from Kaya who had felt that someone was following him.
“Do you know this man, Mrs. Sönmez?” asked one of the police officers.
“Yes, I do. If you need, I can make him come here and confess everything.” stated Suna, looking at surprised police officers. Abidin really overstepped all the boundaries with this move.
“Of course, the faster we can close this case the better. We could not but notice your injuries, do you want to open a case against this person?”
“If we are at it, sure. I will just text that person in the video.”
Suna allowed them to take photos of all the bruises on her body and other injuries she had sustained under her fathers strict upbringing that has left scars that would never be erased. They took her statement about her father. She really hoped something would come out of it. Even if not, she stood up to him, exposing his dirty deeds. Suna’s phone vibrated on the table.
“He is here.”
“Don’t worry, Mrs. Sönmez. We will be close by.” the police officer reassured her while putting on a microphone on her. They really should not be worried about her but Abidin. There was no angrier being that hurt and disappointed woman. “Do everything to get it out of him?”
When Suna met Abidin in front of the hospital, she could see that Kaya had gotten him well. His jaw was purple with already formed bruising there and some bruising under an eye.
“Suna, what happened to your face? Did someone hit you?” asked worried Abidin, trying to touch her face. She slapped her hand away.
“Not like you don’t know who could do this to me. You have always just stood there and watched me being abused like my own mother. You couldn’t even help me once. You are a coward.”
“Don’t say that, Suna. I did so much for you.”
“What exactly did you do for me?” asked Suna, leading him on the way to confess his crimes. “What should I be thankful for, Abidin?”
“I rid your life from that so called husband of yours. I saw how sad he was making you. So I did help you. It was so easy to get rid of him. Possibly, he is already dead by now. You are free to do what you like.”
“Abidin, what did you do to Kaya?”
“Nothing that he didn’t deserve for hurting you. Just left him to die like the bastard he is.”
Suna could not take it anymore. She slapped him as hard as she could and got her fingers twisted in Abidins hair, pulling as hard as possible to put him on the knees, sneering: “Don’t you dare to call my husband a bastard. You know, Abidin, by this you only helped my father. He will marry me off to another creep that you won’t be able to take on because you will be too scared.”
A police officer was pulling her off Abidin but she was not letting go that easy. She kicked him in the side and his howl of pain was satisfying.
“That is for hurting me and Kaya. I hope you like your jail cell.” she shouted after him while Abidin was getting taken away.
“I knew we should have been worried about that man more than you.” said Nükhet who had seen everything go down from the sidelines. “Officer, you can let my daughter in law go. She won’t hurt anyone anymore. I think you have more pressing matters to attend to.”
The two women walked back to Kaya’s room in silence but before Suna could step over the threshold there was a hand on her shoulder, turning her so she could face her mother in law.
“I am proud of you, Suna. You kept your promise so I am keeping mine. You are free from my own revenge. Go, live a happy life with my son.”
“Nükhet, Kaya wants you to come with us.”
“I know, child, but my time here is not done yet. I will join you soon enough. Oh, by the way, here are yours and Kaya’s clothes and bathroom stuff. The rest of the stuff I asked to be moved to a flat I rented for you two. There is no reason for you two to return to that snake pit.”
“Thank you, Mother!” said Suna, stepping into the hospital room. There was her husband wide awake and smiling at her not like someone wanted him dead just yesterday. Just seeing that smile made Suna finally allow herself to cry. Kaya just opened his arms, ready as always to support his wife and allow her to hide in his arms. That is all Suna needed right now. Her husband's warm hug and understanding that they are allowed to be happy.
“I love you!” spoke Suna, looking in the eyes of her husband. He deserved to know that he had reached this goal of his. He had fully disarmed her and showed her that life she wants is possible with the right person.
“I love you, too, my water nymph!” he answered her, pressing a kiss to her forehead.

Ulu Önder Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’ün Burdur’a gelişinin 90. yıl dönümü düzenlenen etkinliklerle kutlandı.
Gazi Mustafa Kemal’in 6 Mart 1930 tarihinde şehrimizde karşılandığı Çatalpınar Kavşağı’nda “Ata’ya Saygı Yürüyüşü” ile başlayan etkinliklerle, Cumhuriyet Meydanı’nda gerçekleşen Çelenk Sunma ve Kutlama Programı ile devam etti.
Vali Hasan Şıldak, Milletvekili Mehmet Göker, Belediye Başkanı Ali Orkun Ercengiz, vatandaşlar, askerler ve öğrenci gruplarından oluşan kortej ellerinde Türk bayraklarıyla bando eşliğinde Çatalpınar Kavşağından Cumhuriyet Meydanı’na kadar yürüdüler.
Cumhuriyet Meydanı’nda düzenlenen törende Mehmet Uzal Sosyal Bilimler Lisesi öğrencileri tarafından Burdur Gençliği adına şanlı Türk bayrağı Vali Hasan Şıldak’a takdim edildi. Vali Şıldak da Şanlı Türk Bayrağını öperek, yeniden Türk gençliğine takdim etti.
Vali Hasan Şıldak, Garnizon Komutanı Cenk Baburşah ve Belediye Başkanı Ali Orkun Ercengiz Atatürk Anıtı’na çelenk sundular. Belediye Başkanı Ali Orkun Ercengiz’in konuşmasının ardından, TOBB Anadolu Lisesi Öğrencisi İdil Özcan tarafından Mustafa Kemal’i Düşünüyorum adlı şiir okundu. Program, Vali Hasan Şıldak’ın konuşması ve 6 Mart dolayısıyla yapılan spor müsabakalarında dereceye giren öğrencilere ödüllerinin verilmesiyle sona erdi.
Vali Hasan Şıldak törende yaptığı konuşmada;
Belediye Başkanı Ali Orkun Ercengiz yaptığı konuşmada;

You Touched My Face and All Life Was Erased
Suna and Kaya's first kiss, and what brought them to that point.
Author note: I planned to write this every since I watched the kiss scene, but it took me a while, because I wasn't quite sure how to approach it. But here it is finally. Hope it will make it up somewhat for the lack of canon KaySun this week.
Title inspired by HIM's "Resurrection". Lately it seems like all my favourite songs are KaySun coded.
AO3 link here.
Neither Suna nor Kaya give it a second thought until the moment İfakat opens her mouth, putting in words something neither of them was willing to confront.
the attraction that they feel for each other
Suna's initial reaction is disbelief, because she wears the scars of a lifetime of silence and solitude, always being treated as an afterthought, a quiet, withdrawn girl whose opinion does not matter, and never will.
and her dreams were always fractured to the point where she actively suppressed them, because useless hope can be worse than resignation
Kaya looks at İfakat, knows that whatever game she plays, can't be in his interest, but maybe it wouldn't be so bad to go along with it, if it will get him one step to the revenge that seems to be the only way in which he can calm the storm that rages inside of him. Also, if İfakat thinks she can play him, she better think again.
and somewhere deep down inside, even if he is unwilling to admit it, he does have a bit of a soft spot for the beautiful girl who is not afraid to criticise him, and is not afraid to apologise to him either
*
Can he be her rescue? Suna wonders, when the aftershock has passed, and İfakat's words have started to settle in a bit. Or is this just another door that opens to a wall?
and what other option does she have, except submitting to endless humiliation, to the point that she will be nothing but a broken shell?
Is it worth it? Kaya asks himself. Sacrificing his freedom just to wildly bet on an outcome that might not even be in his favour at the end?
but was he ever really free? and would it be so bad to take this risk?
*
Suna thinks and thinks.
She believed she had found a shelter before, through a love that was at one point the only source of joy in her miserable life, a love that is still unfinished, drowning in bitterness and more pain than she thought she would be able to handle. She's here, still standing in spite of everything, locking down her pain and pretending, in order not to collapse.
But she doesn't know how long she is going to last like this. What word will destroy her completely. What pain will finally be too much.
Part of her still doubts that Kaya is affected in any significant way by her. The spare, the girl who always gets ignored. How could this ever happen?
It's not possible.
And yet...
what if it is what if it is what if it is what if it is
*
What exactly did she do to him to be dragged into this twisted game of revenge? Kaya muses.
And of course, the answer is nothing. Nothing at all.
She bears no responsibility for the rage that boils inside him, threatening to spill over and destroy everything in its path. She has no fault for the dark shadows that loom around him, for the insecurities that he would never acknowledge out loud, for the fear that he will always be left behind, that he will never be good enough.
He does not know her that well, but he did pay attention to her a bit, he noticed some things. She's living her own special kind of hell - what use is it to add his own on top of that?
It would be bad.
And yet...
maybe not that bad maybe not that bad maybe not that bad maybe not that bad
*
In spite of herself (don't dream, Suna, don't you dare), her heart flutters when he compares her to a water spirit.
he doesn't know that she cannot fly because they cut off her wings until there was barely anything left anymore
He does try to keep his distance. Says he won't come to her sister's celebration because he does not want to cause any more tension, but she insists.
she doesn't know that something in him warms up when hearing her words, because he sees himself reflected in her eyes, and it's almost like he's a human being, and it's almost like he matters
*
She can't go to his room, she can't, she won't. She already risked more than she could possibly imagine by leaving the mansion with no permission to go with him at the market, she can't take one single step further.
But İfakat insists that she should, because he got in a fight and got wounded because of her, so she gives in. And really, a part of her might have been on board with it all along.
She should be afraid. She saw his anger, the way it exploded almost unprovoked. She should be, but...
but this is her choice, hers and no one else's, and it might result in heaven or hell, but it's the first time when she feels she might be in control of something, when she feels she's more than a simple pawn
He thought she would be scared of him, but she's not. Quite the contrary, she surprises him by knocking at his door and offering to apply some cream to the wound he got when fighting with those guys in the market.
It goes against everything he knew, or he thought he knew, about her upbringing, about who she is as a person. She either likes him that much... or she is just that desperate.
Neither option is good, and he should put a stop to everything before it's too late.
it's hard when she is so close he can smell her perfume, the sweetness of her breath when she blows over his eyebrow, where they hit him, and if only someone could heal all of his wounds like that
He tells her they should stop. He tells her it's too soon. He tells her she's not sure of her feelings.
She freezes, mortification taking over her entire being. Of course she interpreted all of it incorrectly. She bet on an illusion and lost again. And she knows she will never be able to look properly into his eyes again, and tells him as much.
Oh, and it's so familiar to him, the way tears suffocate her voice, the effort she makes to keep her head high, to not crumble. He knows it. He lived it.
He only tried to be kind, the way he knew how to be, at least, but his kindness hurt her.
She's brave, the way she tries to stop crying, the way she tells him nothing happened, like she's trying to convince herself.
this is another nightmare and then she will wake up and she will lock everything down and she will survive because she has to
He stands still, looking at her, understanding in his eyes.
he knows, he sees her now
With measured steps, he approaches her, the decision taken before he can even be properly aware of it. She could step back, get out, but she does not. Brave girl.
There's nothing tender in the way he grabs her face, but his fingers wiping her tears feel gentle on her skin. She closes her eyes, breathes in, breathes out, and reaches out to him, touching his cheek with her hand, his own hand immediately moving to cover hers. Like he's not allowing her to let go.
Like they are the only remaining living beings in the entire world.
Then he kisses her.
he tastes like hope and dreams and desire and everything she never dared to wish
she tastes like salt and desperation and want and everything he never knew he needed
*
it turns to hell two seconds later
but when all is said and done and after all the tears and commotion, there are no regrets to speak of

Of Nightmares and Late Night Encounters
Kaya has a nightmare and Suna wakes him up. The rest, as they say, is history. One-shot.
My brain came up with this scene late at night on Christmas Eve, when I was trying to fall asleep, and it (obviously) didn't leave me alone until I actually wrote the entire thing. As mentioned in the tags, I have no idea how KaySun will evolve in canon, so I don't know how (or if) what I wrote here will fit in with the show. But whatever. This fandom deserves nice things.
AO3 link here.
Suna had been a light sleeper for most of her life.
It was like her subconscious was finely tuned in to catch even the smallest sign of something not being right in her environment. As a child, she would always wake up and reach out to Seyran whenever her sister had nightmares, her touch and whispered words always more than enough to soothe her and return her to a calm sleep. If she couldn't protect Seyran from the regular horrors of the day, she could at least protect her from the horrors that were haunting her sleep - which, Suna suspected, were the same anyway.
She had kept the habit of waking up at least once per night as an adult, even after Seyran had married and left her proximity, never truly being able to enjoy an uninterrupted night of sleep, always on edge.
She had enjoyed a change in her sleeping pattern only since marrying Kaya. Having him around during the night was comfortable in a way she hadn't expected. Kaya was keeping to himself for the most part, and, outside of the moments when they were being intimate, was extra careful to not cross into her personal space, putting a respectful distance between the two of them. He was also an exceptionally calm sleeper, not moving much during the night; he would fall asleep on his belly, hugging a pillow, and Suna suspected that's how he would usually wake up as well, although, thanks to her newfound ability to sleep without interruption during the night, she hadn't yet had the chance to wake up before him to test her theory.
So when she unexpectedly wakes up during what appeared to initially be just another regular night, she knows something is amiss.
With her mind still slightly foggy, she looks next to her, at Kaya who's still asleep (on his back, she quickly takes note), and at first cannot quite believe her eyes, but sure enough, she has seen a similar picture many times before. Kaya's breath is accelerated, his fingers clutching the sheet, the pillow on the floor, away from his grasp, and yeah, all signs point out to him having a nightmare.
A heartbeat passes, and she's not quite sure what she should do - if she should do anything at all. But then a brief pained moan escapes his lips, so her need to soothe takes over, and she reaches out to him, touches his forehead gently with her palm.
He wakes up with a shudder, and Suna almost backs off, but his eyes quickly focus on her, and he catches her hand with his before she can completely withdraw it.
"Suna," he whispers.
"I'm sorry," Suna whispers back, not exactly knowing what to say. "It looked like you were having a nightmare."
He swallows once, twice. "Yeah, I think I was," he says, no longer looking at her. "Did I bother you?"
He looks uncomfortable, and Suna remembers his reaction the morning after he had fallen asleep crying in her arms. At the time, she had thought he was being distant to punish her, but looking at him now, she realises it was probably also because he didn't like showing his hidden vulnerability.
"Don't worry about that," she replies. "I'm a light sleeper normally."
His features relax a bit, and he turns on his side to look at her, his hand still on hers. "Sorry anyway," he says. "I don't know why, but I don't seem to sleep well on my back."
A pause, then he adds:
"But I didn't know you're a light sleeper. It's a bit surprising."
"I used to be a light sleeper, at least," Suna amends, and for a moment she thinks whether it's okay to share this with him or not, but they did promise to be honest with each other, and she doesn't see what harm it could bring. So she adds: "It seems like I sleep better with you around."
His gaze becomes pensive, and he studies her for a while, without saying a word, his hand moving slightly over hers in touches just as gentle as her own touch on his forehead earlier. Suna feels her cheeks reddening slightly, but holds his gaze, waiting.
He eventually speaks again:
"Suna, is it okay if I hold you for a while?"
And she doesn't know what pushes her to say it. Maybe it's the fact that it's late at night, maybe it's the constant gentleness he treats her with, his great care around her, the respect regarding her boundaries, the way he looks in semidarkness, eyes on her. Maybe all of those at once.
But she says it.
"You can do much more than hold me. If you want."
He doesn't say a thing, but, before she can even start to second guess herself, his lips are on hers, and his kiss is hot and heavy.
*
Even with all her lack of experience and general shyness in intimate situations, Suna doesn't think Kaya realised that she was technically a virgin during their first night together.
Because he took so much time, touching her intently, pausing to ask her whether it felt good, encouraging her initially timid touches as well, that by the time he entered her, she was so relaxed that it didn't hurt, and she never bled.
He never quite asked her what happened in her first marriage; he probably suspects she was assaulted, but never asked for any details, and that's something she's quietly grateful for. She doesn't think she can share with anyone the sort of humiliation she was made to endure. Not even with him; not yet, anyway. She doesn't know why, but she feels deep in her core that he wouldn't judge her.
She's not used to ask for what she wants; she was always in the background of her own life, never being able to oppose whatever bad things would happen to her at any given moment.
There's nothing bad about this, though, nothing bad about the way his arms hold her, nothing bad about his lips on her throat, nothing bad about his whisper in her ear "you can stop me if I become too rough", nothing bad about his hands on her bare skin.
He's indeed less gentle than the previous times they did it, his hands wandering around more freely, his touch a bit more insistent, his whispers more commanding: "tell me how to do it, tell me how you like it", words that would normally make her blush in any other situation, but not here, not with him.
She feels him deep inside of her, intensity building up to the point that she can barely hold herself together, and it's frightening, but also exhilarating. "Let go," he murmurs, "let go, let go, I won't be able to last long either", and that's what finally sends her over the edge.
*
When she returns from the bathroom, she expects to see him already clothed, as it usually happens after their intimate encounters. But he lays between the sheets in the same position he was when she left, and, as far as she can see, he's still naked.
She pauses for a bit, then, almost without realising, slips out of her robe and lets it fall to the ground before climbing back into bed.
He reacts immediately, moving towards her, hands touching her tenderly. "Is it okay like this? Sorry, I didn't really feel like moving, but I can-" and then he pauses, and she knows he realised she's also naked behind the sheets.
"It's okay," she smiles. "It's comfortable."
His head moves towards her shoulder, his body almost completely covering hers, and Suna holds him gently, her fingers playing with his hair. She feels him from head to toe, a pleasant warm weight on top of her.
It's beautiful. It's scary.
She thinks she knows what love is, but she doesn't quite know how to define this, whatever it is that's between them. She just knows she doesn't want it to end.
"Suna," she hears him speaking. "Will you hold me like this for a bit longer?"
And so she gives the only answer that wouldn't sound like a lie: "Always."
*
He's still asleep when she wakes up in the morning.

As We Move You Can't Tell Us Apart
Suna is unusually silent and dismissive, and Kaya attempts to talk to her, with unexpected results. One-shot.
Author note: We saw Kaya implying that there used to be something between him and Pırıl in the latest trailer, and we also saw him touching her cheek. We also saw Suna apparently walking in on this.
As of now, I have zero idea what this will mean canon wise, but Twitter user hanasfx came up with a jealousy prompt inspired by the scenes in the trailer, so I took it and ran away with it. Hope I did justice to everyone who was expecting a fic based on this.
Title inspired by Klaxons's song "Twin Flames". I did struggle with the title more than usual.
AO3 link here.
Suna has been in the bathroom for a long time, and Kaya starts to believe something is amiss.
She has kept her distance from him the entire day, but he hasn't been very alarmed at first - he knows she goes through a difficult period (to put it mildly), and is perfectly content with giving her space until she sorts everything out.
Except that sorting things out seems to take her a lot more than he expected. She had been acting out with him the entire day after her fight with Pelin, but at least she had been talking to him, even if it was only to argue. Today she has been awfully quiet - and he doesn't like it one bit.
Right at the moment when he finally makes up his mind to go and knock at the bathroom's door, she gets out. It looks like she took a bath; her hair is still slightly wet, and her cheeks are pink and flushed, but her entire posture is rigid and cold, and she doesn't even look at him.
He takes a deep breath. Not ideal to start this conversation in the evening right before sleep, but it does look like their bedroom is the only place where she can't successfully avoid him.
"Suna, care to tell me what's wrong?"
"Oh, nothing is wrong," she answers with a fake cheerfulness that doesn't fool him one bit.
She had the exact same smile when she had told him, before their failed wedding, that he was never going to be able to get rid of her. At that time, her words had bothered him deep down inside; he had understood her reaction only after she had confessed she knew about that horrible conversation he had had with his mother.
That's how Suna acts, at least with him. Walls up whenever she's hurt - or whenever she fears she might be hurt.
"No use to play this game with me," he says out loud, studying her carefully. "You forget that I do know you a bit better now. I know something is wrong."
"I can only admire your insight," she answers, sarcasm dripping from every word. "Did it take you long to come up with that one?"
"I don't mean the current general situation," he replies patiently. "I mean with you. You look like you are upset with me, and no, don't tell me this is about Pelin, because you did not act like that after the Pelin incident. There's something more, I know it. In fact..."
He pauses for a bit, tries to think of it. There was a moment during the day when he pinched Pırıl's cheek, but she cannot possibly be mad about that... can she?
Suna presses her lips together, her expression more stubborn than Kaya thought it possible. It's clear she is not willing to talk, and well, something's got to give, so he just says it, even if he doesn't believe it himself.
"Wait, is this about Pırıl?"
And then he watches in wonder his wife's cheeks reddening, She's lost for words for a few seconds, and then she explodes in a laugh that is just as loud as it is fake.
"Pırıl? Please, why would I even care about Pırıl? But it does look like you care about her a lot, I have to say I think it's interesting. I didn't know you were such good friends."
All the stars above, Kaya thinks in disbelief. She cannot be jealous. This is simply not happening.
"I just think," Suna goes on, voice raising slightly, "that it's a bit unfair to go on about how we promised to be honest with each other and have each other's backs and all that sweet talk, only for you to have friendships I am not even aware of. I do wonder how many other friends you have I know nothing about."
"Oh for the love of God," Kaya begins, only for her to cut him off immediately:
"And don't even bother trying to deny it, because I saw you, and I do clearly remember telling you not to play with me!"
"Wait a second," he says, increasingly angry. "Are you seriously accusing me of having a thing with Pırıl behind your back? For your information, when I make a promise, I always intend to keep it! I asked you to marry me, and I promised you loyalty and support, and I intend to keep that promise for as long as we are married! Or maybe you're implying we had a thing in the past - in which case, newsflash, everyone has a past! Even you have one! May I remind you that your ex is actually living in this house, and you have not heard a single complaint from me about this?!"
"Well, maybe you should talk about it, if it bothers you so much!" Suna explodes all of a sudden. "Maybe you should ask me about it! But it's very clear that it does not bother you in the slightest, and that I am the only one who is bothered by all of this!"
Before she can go on any further, he covers the distance between them in two steps and kisses her.
She's struggling at first, trying to escape, but then, when his tongue parts her lips and enters her mouth, she stops fighting him, and actually drags him more towards her, responding to his kiss with the same intensity. It goes on, and on, and when they finally stop, they're both breathless, and there are a few seconds of silence before Kaya finally speaks:
"Who the fuck says it does not bother me?"
And then it's Suna's turn to kiss him, and it's not any more gentle than the kiss he gave her. It's so intense that he feels just as weak in the knees as a teenager.
This woman is going to be the death of him, he thinks.
