Today I was thinking about the similarities between Stefan and Damon, and Angel and Spike.

Besides the obvious similarities of the two pairs, I realized why I always favored Damon and Spike.

They're practically the same character.

They were both changed and turned into something they didn't anticipate, going off the rails and becoming what most would consider evil, and sure, they were. They did horrible things with little remorse at the time. But they were both capable of so much l. With Damon, his whole goal in the beginning was to be with Katherine. To love her, to live with her, and to search for her. Until Elena came along. And we all know how he acts with her.

And it was the same with Spike. He spends every season trying to keep the bad guy persona on when he really is just a love sick puppy. And that's without his soul, not even getting into how hard he fought for his back, just for Buffy.

Cut to Stefan and Angel. Who both claim they're good. Better than their counterpart. And yet, as soon as that cover of emotions or souls is ripped away, they're vicious. Ruthless. More cruel than Damon or Spike ever tried to be under the same circumstances. But they're constantly claiming to be better than the other because they're guilty for it. A good guy complex because they refuse to believe that they might be worse than their counterpart.

Stefan and Damon are simply a modern version of Angel and Spike, and I will never stop talking about all the similarities between the two pairs, or how much more interesting Damon and Spike are as characters than their self righteous counterparts.

Thinking about Rory Williams. What a character.

The completely ordinary man who doesn't become extraordinary, but is already extraordinary.

The coma nurse who can watch over patients becomes a guardian who watches over the love of his life for two-thousand years.

A man being faithful to one woman makes him one of the greatest heroes in history.

Being good, kind, honorable and faithful is a higher kind of virtue than the Doctor's flashy cleverness.

He didn't need to become a hero. He was a hero and got to prove it when put in extraordinary circumstances.

Just a fantastic character.

Spike calling Angel the Slayer’s lapdog will never fail to make me laugh because Spike, I don’t know how to tell you this…but you’re gonna become even more of a simp than Angel ever was. If anything, I don’t think I ever considered Angel a simp. Spike on the other hand…
