observations on aquarius

aquarius moons, like other air moons, can treat their emotions kind of like a puzzle; they turn them over in their hands and really break down and analyse their thoughts and feelings. aquarius moons in particular tend to be very focused on the wider impact of their actions and emotions, which, while a testament to their kind and caring nature, can get in the way of them experiencing their full emotional range and the insight that comes with that.

a lot of people with aquarius dominance can go through life feeling dreadfully lonely. though (depending on individual placements) they often pride themselves on being different, or not needing to follow the crowd, deep down they can feel they don't belong, or aren't 'normal'. really, their uniqueness is what makes them beautiful, and while their journey isn't always predictable, they generally find their tribe along the way, and become people with a strong sense of self and steady values that guide them and their relationships.

aquarius on the ascendant tends to have a reputation for looking 'alien-like' or asymmetric, and while the second one especially can be true, my opinion is that a lot of aquarius risings have a doll-like beauty, with very fine and neat features, not unlike virgo risings actually. what sets them apart is that they are more expressive with their style, more congruent and more open to showing their true selves through their clothing. they are prouder and stronger that way, almost more dramatic.

mars in aquarius is a placement that has a strange relationship with anger and assertiveness. they tend to be very cool people, in that they're stoic, relaxed, grounded and pragmatic; they aren't as controlling or fearful as a fixed mars tends to be. but they can be quite detached from their anger and agency, and so if they aren't self-reflective, they don't see how it can affect those around them when they are angry. they are prone to anger at the state of the world and are sensitive to justice - or injustice, rather - but can be erratic in how they display this, at times seeming uncaring.

jupiter in aquarius is a placement that brings a lot of kindness, a lot of generosity, but a strict will and a clear vision. they are dreamers at heart, like a lot of aquarian placements, but if it's channeled properly, jupiter in aquarius gives the native the power and confidence to succeed. the other interesting thing about this placement is that the native tends to love to work; as long as the work means something to them, as long as it does good. they absolutely cannot work just to make money, it's bad for their souls.

aquarius in the sixth house can bring health issues that appear suddenly, are hard to diagnose or treat, or come and go. they may have unusual symptoms or reactions to things, and the phrase 'when you hear hoofbeats, think horses' doesn't tend to apply so well to them. somewhat nervous individuals, aquarius in the sixth house natives can be sensitive to lifestyle factors that help or hinder their health, and so they need a solid (if maybe a little unconventional) routine to really flourish.

aquarius suns are some of the funniest people i've ever met. they have a real deadpan, dry sense of humour and their serious delivery just makes the joke land better. although they may have unconventional taste in material, they don't tend towards the inappropriate and in fact are very even and fair in their roasts. maybe for this reason, they aren't the best roasters, but at least you know you won't be traumatised if an aquarius roasts you...

venus in aquarius gets a reputation for being distant, 'away with the fairies', even unromantic, but i don't think that's true at all. while they are a more grounded and cerebral placement for venus to be in, these natives are incredibly sweet. when they love someone, they will tell them so in a thousand tiny ways. they're the type to take their time getting to know every part of you, down to your microexpressions and innermost worries and favourites.

The Sun moves into Aquarius at 3pm ET today, and when it does it opens up 30 days of innovation, sprinkled in with a wee bit of weirdness.

During this 30 day transit there will be lots of things planetarily that will "shake" things up a bit:

January 21 - the Sun and Pluto will conjunct at 1°. These two planets haven't conjunct in Aquarius since 1797.

January 27 - Mercury moves into Aquarius

January 30 - Uranus stations direct at 23° Taurus

February 11 - The Sun in Aquarius squares the ruler of Aquarius, Uranus, at 23° Taurus

Those are some highlights, and of course there will be much more happening as the Sun tours the sign of the Water Bearer, pouring waves of knowledge and wisdom into our lives. Sun in Aries - Extremely temperamental, always conveying to others exactly what you're feeling. This, combined with the attribute of being direct, makes you someone who can negatively influence situations and people unnecessarily by not being able to control your instincts and emotions. Accept your traits because their root is important and valid. So, neither reject nor overdo it; always seek balance.

Sun in Taurus - Attachment, material accumulation, and comfort zone, preventing you from seeing things around you that could add more value. You might miss seeing those around you who could need something you have but no longer need (from food to clothing, for example). This attachment also applies to long-held ideas that no longer serve you. Recycle, review.

Sun in Gemini - Inconsistency, recklessness. Lack of restraint can lead to a lack of focus, and long-term lack of focus can lead to accumulated wasted time. The key is to embrace your emotions, as your essence already allows for greater openness. Focus on understanding how the past still affects you, reframe, transform, and understand all of this in the most welcoming way possible 🤍.

Sun in Leo - Too much dramatic approach to life, less vision of what things really are. Some Leos sometimes struggle to approach life and their issues realistically and concretely. This is normal to some extent, part of the process. The negative aspect is when this becomes extreme and the only way to deal with life. Imagination and creativity (which ultimately underlie drama, often an exaggeration of creativity and imagination) are important facets, as your essence involves being creative and playful. But be aware of how much you don’t see things as they really are when dealing with life in an overly creative way. You fall into some illusions and imaginations created by your mind, often driven by ego. Work on a state of consciousness. Less emotion, more reason!

Sun in Virgo - Too much repetition, too many patterns, little real adaptation. It's crucial for Virgo to notice this in themselves because when we don’t open up to various ways of seeing and dealing with life, we get stuck, fall into nets, patterns, mental "prisons," and this isn’t good. Before a moment, phase, or situation arises where you will be forced to adapt abruptly, try to reflect as much as you can on your hidden inflexibilities and adaptation difficulties that sometimes appear in small things but can become more intense adaptation difficulties over time, affecting various areas of your life. Handle your internal patterns with kindness and compassion 🤍 no one is born to stagnate! 🤍.

Sun in Libra - Imbalances in giving and receiving (i.e., wanting to give too much, finding it hard to receive). You, Libra, tend to pay a lot of attention to how much you receive because you like a balanced scale and want to see everything fair and equal, giving and receiving in equal measure. This is exemplary; it’s important to notice what we receive to work on gratitude. However, focusing too much on what needs to be done, especially based on what someone has already done for you, can hinder more than move you. This can generate guilt and a feeling of always being "in debt." Therefore, practice receiving without necessarily feeling an obligation to give back. Understand why and what you are receiving, if it is something that is not a gesture of reciprocation from the other for something you have done continuously. Don’t feel guilty for receiving a lot. We all deserve it, in essence.

Sun in Scorpio - Your depth should not be destructive, to yourself or others. Notice how much you really control your emotions as much as you want. The aim is not to provoke control, quite the opposite, but to show that the more you try to control, the less you manage to live well. The result is rarely positive when we go for control, of ourselves, of others. By the natural mechanism of action and reaction, everything we emit returns, so controlling makes you eternally relive this energy in your life. Let go more, as much as you can. Your depth should not be destructive; if you are afraid to show and feel everything you sense about your fears and what you notice in others, deal with this differently, but with less control.

Sun in Sagittarius - Don’t waste your expansive energy on what won’t bring you growth or real expansion. You have immense potential for connection with something greater, growth, extroversion, elevation… but you might be directing this towards quick pleasures, a life seeking meaning (which is very important to you) but rarely finding it in shallow, superficial ways. The tool is important, the means, where you are investing your energy is what will define the outcome. If you want to expand, have real growth and elevation, seek the means that ultimately truly bring this as a result.

Sun in Capricorn - Review paradigms, beliefs, and the vibe of control over those closest to you. Control less (others, life), let go more. Capricorn, you have immense planning potential and the ability to put things into practice, to go out there and do it, bit by bit, build, and then reap. You recognize the value of time, in principle. But often, by living in this 'ready plan' for life, or by believing that everyone needs to follow some paradigm, you may want to impose your way of being, of living, on others, when in the end, it might only apply to you. Moreover, your paradigms and beliefs define your life (and all of ours), so notice what is old and no longer serves you.

Sun in Aquarius - Mental arrogance ("Yes, I already know that"), if constant and combined with a habit of never accepting help, can translate into an ego that does not want to give up "feeling mentally impenetrable." This can keep you from having better exchanges and mentally evolving with beings who could contribute to you. Kindly notice where you might be having these attitudes that are not very healthy for your own evolution 🤍.

Sun in Pisces - Escapism and fleeing from yourself. Seeking other things, circumstances, situations to avoid looking within. Despite Pisces being a sign extremely capable of deep self-perception, you may fear your own depth, especially if this is combined with the fear of acknowledging that you have a lot of energy within you capable of leading you to the profound, unique, sensitive, and vulnerable.

Aquarius Placements & Autonomy

While I don't inherently have major Aquarius placements, I have exposed myself quite often to those that do. I noticed that Aquarians are considered "unlike" others typically in some form of physical or verbal expression. Even if it is masked through another ascendant or some other factors, I feel even the slightest portion of that energy showcases something that is independent and unique. Mainly, there is a focus on physical expression.

However, why exactly? Many people I know with such placements dislike the stereotypes of Aquarius and feel as though they aren't just pushed into uniqueness (or the hated word, "quirkiness") — they either find it to be inaccurate or very defensively hold an extreme pride towards it. The latter, I think I'm starting to discover, arises from extreme insecurity. Not to say it is wrongful, but I know with my Mars in Aquarius placement, I outwardly express my Marsian qualities quite strategically and independently because I feel internal or external pressures attempting to "rid me of it." In theory, I am curious if majority of the independent qualities showcased within Aquarius is due to issues of autonomy. Sun in Aquarius' fight tooth and nail to have an assertiveness over their own ego/identity. Moon in Aquarius, from my observations, are very defensive and controlling over their internal world. While they may be conversationally relaxed and unbothered, if someone tried to admit influence in some form, there is a very intense backlash. Whether it is an actual external pressure or an internal choke-hold of repression, the Saturn rulership provokes a very intense dynamic of control that clashes with the need to be physically seen as someone with social prowess. While they flourish in social environments due to the 11th house, they also are constantly in defense for the next person to "take" who they are — insinuating a forever conflict that ebbs and flows differently at all times.

Explaining Dignities: Detriment (Sun, Moon, Mercury and Venus)

2nd post on dignities! Hope you enjoy 🤩

Context: In Hellenistic (traditional) astrology, planets in detriment (or debilitated planets) are planetary rulers who sit in its contrary sign (the opposite of its domicile sign), such as Moon in Capricorn. They are said to be like foreigners in a land where they don’t speak the same language and are not familiar with the resources available in that place. Because of that, they cannot express their personality well and find success easily, as they need double the effort to accomplish their goals. With time, they can learn to make the best out of what’s given, but things will not be as easy as with exalted planets or in domicile. Planets in detriment tend to create delays and challenges in the house they occupy.

*Mind that below I’m speaking metaphorically of “house” as the SIGN the planet is exalted, and not the astrological house (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.) as such.*

Also, my intention is not to "condemn" people with these placements. As with everything, there are positive and negative interpretations, but for the purpose of this topic, I'll be centering on the challenges only.

Sun in Aquarius: When the Sun is in Aquarius, his powerful and charismatic personality feels threatened. He’s at odds because he cannot be a creative leader and a community ally at the same time. He trades his uniqueness for a sense of belonging and feels like an outsider when he doesn’t achieve this. The Sun is frustrated, as he’s pushed aside from the limelight. He has to accept that his host prefers transcendence and unity over fun, passion, competition and recreation… the things he loves! Aquarius tries to get rid of his need for recognition and superiority in an attempt to make him fit into the masses, and while the Sun finds some sort of value in it, he misses his followers, as he feels underappreciated and misunderstood. After all, he lives for the drama, the theaters! His charisma is of no use in this gray and futuristic laboratory, where he has to learn to get in touch with his shine and brilliance from a mental place instead of his heart. His natural self-expression and emotionality need to be contained and transformed into scientific and innovative concepts that will help humankind, not amaze, or entertain it, as he wishes to.

Moon in Capricorn: When Capricorn receives the Moon, he finds her sensitivity too overwhelming and disturbing. He finds it hard to tolerate her fragility and self-expression, as he wants to keep things under control and practical. Facing drama makes him nervous, so he tries to avoid anything disturbing the Moon may complain about; this creates distance, insecurity and discomfort between hosts. The Moon feels misunderstood, lonely, and alienated from what makes her happy. In this ancient and lonely place, she’s gloomy because she cannot create a cozy and hearty home, where people feel welcomed and she’s able to take care of them without feeling judged or weak. Since she’s ripped away from emotional closeness, depression and exhaustion enter right away, as her host seems to be obsessed with duties, work, and material goals. She does not understand why life has to be so cold and serious. What is she supposed to do with all this vulnerability and depth in a place that sees them as undesirable?

Personality keywords: stern, lonely, gloomy, distant, restricted, pessimistic, overly ambitious, materialistic, incredulous.

Mercury in Sagittarius: Sagittarius is adventurous, expansive and preoccupied with the larger picture, so when Mercury lands into this spacious and disorganized household, he’s overwhelmed and lost. He wants to rearrange things and be as scrupulous as he can so he can make sense out of it all, but in here he has no idea where to begin, or if it’s even possible! He’s not interested in philosophy or spirituality as his host does, as he prefers facts and logical explanations to understand the world. Where he comes from, knowledge cannot beat experience, contrary the abstract and diluted things he finds in this amusement park. Because there are no clear guidelines, books or archives to find his answers, he has to turn into his underused intuition and sense of faith to find clarity. His host just wants him to be excited and have fun without worrying about the minor details! Therefore, his valued brain power seems to not be as useful as before, making him feel ungrounded and confused most of the time. He finds out that it’s better to just go with the flow and ends up sacrificing his methodical approaches for disorder, recklessness and impulsiveness because he gets tired of trying to do things objectively and rationally.

Mercury in Pisces: Because Pisces is boundless and diluted, Mercury experiences a similar effect of anxiety and frustration as before when he enters the watery and nebulous chambers of his host’s homebase. Mercury needs libraries, schools and constant communication and interactions to feel happy, but in here, he feels alone in the middle of nowhere and things are just too mystical to be digested with common sense. He finds it hard to navigate the temple of the unseen realms, as he’s used to approaching life from his scientific rationale. There are so many things that don’t make sense here! Yes, there are interesting concepts in here and while he learns a thing or two, he loses track of applicable information for “the real world” and inadvertently turns impractical because the knowledge he stumbles upon can only live in the lands of the intangible, dreams or fairytales. He cannot differentiate between illusions and lies from real facts. Because there’s no impartial or logical point of reference, he frequently may be caught up by deceitful communication. His confusion can drive him towards victimhood or self-undoing tendencies, in an attempt to escape what he cannot cope with logically (which can be a lot!).

Personality keywords: disoriented, deceitful, confused, lost, mentally ill, escapist, unreal, delusional, self-absorbed, distracted, martyr, unreal, highly Influenceable.

Venus in Aries: When the planet of love, beauty and harmony enters this host’s home, she feels threatened and uninvited. She feels too weak and scared in a place where war and blood are the bread of everyday. She does not tolerate violence well, but this is what is expected of her in here. Venus understands that she must defend herself to survive, and although she has the resources to do that, she feels unhappy because her soft, passive, gentle and kind approach towards life cannot be expressed without being seen as a liability, a weakness. Cooperation and partnerships are hard to maintain here, because her host couldn’t be less interested healthy connections or other people's wellbeing. He only looks out for himself and makes sure Venus knows this! She feels unable to relax because she’s constantly pushed towards violence and exhausting combat. Venus hates so much chaos and egoism! She and her host bump into each other because both want to follow their own agendas. Tension and ego-clashes will surface, especially if her provoked violence goes to extremes. In an attempt to preserve her values, she can lash out unnecessarily or become passive-aggressive because she is constantly irritated or frustrated about her surroundings. After all, the way she's allowed to love is contrary to what she's used to.

Venus in Scorpio: Although Scorpio values intimacy and emotional depth like Venus, when she enters this hidden cave of mysteries and forbidden things, she becomes overwhelmed and terrified by the darkness she bumps into. Venus is used to thrive in a place of beauty, peace, and relaxation, but in here, her host loves the tenebrous and complicated. She’s left to her own devices and is obligated to find her way out alone. Exploring this realm can feel like a house of horror ride for sweet and innocent Venus! Her host is an enigmatic creature that allures but frightens her, because she’s not able to guess if he’s a friend or an enemy. This is a place where she is forced to find beauty and resilience in the darkest of corners, as daylight is very hard to be seen beneath the ground. She has to become familiar with sorrow and pain too, and she does this by going through constant deaths and rebirths because her need for understanding and closeness drags her to the extremes and into unknown dangers. Venus builds a thick crust around herself to protect her vulnerability. This makes her painfully isolated at times because she will always crave for love and intimacy; a secret she cannot tell. The intensity and uncertainty of this place can make her hyper controlling or mistrusting, but also resilient.

When Pluto starts to move "freely" through Aquarius, it will activate your Mars, Uranus, Jupiter and Midheaven. I can already tell you that there are big changes coming to your life, if you already work then maybe you will reconsider your career somewhere in the future. Just as you can gain recognition through what you do (Midheaven, Mars).
