Friday started with wings night at Hurricanes. Saturday brekky at Maple Street Biscuit then onto Crescent Beach for the day. Sumo Sushi Hürth

Two days ago we visited the Sumo Sushi Restaurant Hürth One in Hürth, Germany. http://www.sumo-restaurant.de/ Sumo Sushi is a restaurant chain consisting of in total 4 Restaurants in Cologne and Hürth. Mat enjoyed their sushi alread two times, but now it was time to test it together.

The dining room is pretty small, consisting of around 8 to 10 different sized dining tables. The bar of this restuarant seams to be kitchen as well. However, it is not rellay possble to check what the chefs are doing behind. We went there on a friday night without an reservation and found half of the tables already accupied, when we enetered the resto. Some of them are placed quite close to the entrance door which I would not recommend to take, esspecially in colder seasons. Since this restaurant also offers a delivery service, there is quite a lot of traffic through that door so that cold air enters frequently. In case you are seraching a more cozy place to spend your dining time, we recommend to take one of the tables which are more in the back of the resto, so as we did.

The table was clean and the menu was already on the table. There is exactly one waitress, which is serving all the guests and answering all phone calls. She is a lil bit bustling in her actions, but always nice and friendly.  On the other side, there are around 3 to 4 chefs, all asian, who are standing all the time  behind this “bar” and preparing the dishes.

The menu offers a variety of classic japanese sushi dishes as Nigiri Sushi, hand rolls, Maki Sushi, Uramaki and Bentos. You can also have some Japanese Beer. It is Kirin, if we remember that right. In case you don´t trust the Japanese Beer Brewings skills, you can also enjoy some fresh tapped german beer. We decided to order one Udong, Shinko Maki,  Kappa Maki, Avokado Maki and Tamago Maki. After quite some time the waitress was free to take our orders. After approximately 15 to 20 mins our dishes were served.

The amount of wasabi which was served with he Makis was enough. A bottle of soy sauce stand on every table. The quality and the taste of the Makis was okay. Overall nothing special but eatable. The Udong soup was also alright but overall alil bit unsavory and tasteless. We wished to have a little bit more spicy soup. 

Overall, the service wa sunsatifactory. This one waitress is just too busy to handle all phone calls and all customers in the restaurant at the same time. Although, our glasses were empty for quite some time, but she did not realize and asked if we wish to have some more. It also took some time until she realized that we want to receive the bill without asking if everything was okay. That´s a No-Go. In total we spent around 28 €.

In summary, it must be clear to you that you cannot expect any extraordinary treats for your tongue, although we haven´t tried any of the fish dishes. The price-performance ratio is okay, could be cheaper. Food quality and taste were okay as well, but also amendable. There are definetly better highlights of japanese cuisine in Cologne, we will try. A minus was definetly the service.
