DRAGON FAUNUS HC COMPILATION.
previous compilation was written here over two years ago. these headcanons only apply to my specific interpretation of ren, if your muse deals with dragon faunus lore, you’re not obligated to acknowledge them. as another disclaimer, ren’s headcanoned faunus heritage, while is a large part of their portrayal, is not the most vital or a pinnacle element of it. it was something that i added because i thought that it would be interesting, but i want to make it clear that i never intend to detract from canonical or oc faunus muses’ struggles.
the initial reason i wanted to make ren a dragon faunus was because i wanted to somehow include mushu in my portrayal. there were other more complicated reasons i felt inclined to do it, including parts of a thesis i was working on at a time analysing the historical accuracies involving mulan’s confusian oriented belief system and it’s representations on the hun army in the disney movie, but none of them were as profound and simple as this post. the primary reason i choose to keep ren a dragon faunus is because it is heavily implied the spirit of the great stone dragon was imbued into mulan before joining the war.
ren’s faunus trait is a pair of ivory horns. a lot of mistrali based dragons have horns similar to antlers, and ren’s will eventually do that come professional huntsman verse, splinter into antlers i mean. when ren was a child, in an act of violence by faunus poachers, their horns were broken off. because their anatomy is a mixture of antler, soft bone, and keratin, ren’s horns would grow back in time, but it would take a long time especially since up until a year or two before beacon ren was filing them down in order to avoid being harassed. dragon horns, whether eastern or western styled, fetch a hefty price on the black market.
it’s a common thread of dragon faunus mythology that they descended from dragon shifters. of course, words were muddled up along the way, and there are many many variations of these myths. the magically protected remnants of the old world in the brother’s time left some supposed evidence that faunus, the new race, were the descendants of the depicted brother gods who often were portrayed in their bestial forms : dragons. just like the stories of the maidens were lost to time, so too were the remains and beliefs in the brother gods. but one superstition still remains among dragon faunus society, and it is that western dragon faunus are often depicted as terrifying malevolent creatures ( modelled after the god of darkness ), while eastern dragon are regularly depicted as wise and benevolent ( modelled after the god of light. )
because in this house we say “fuck you” to the one trait rule, i headcanon that dragon faunus have one main trait, and then a bunch of sub traits which greatly alter their physiology. main dragon traits are often flashy : horns, wings, tail, and / or an excess of scales. for example an important signature trait of dragon faunus is the ability to breathe fire, which separates them from any other reptile faunus. dragon faunus are born with a special venom reservoir ( what the venom is made of is a mystery, but ren theorises that it is actual liquid aura with some similar attributes to fire dust ) which leaks into the fangs. when the venom leaks out of the fangs and catalyses with oxygen, it becomes a flammable gas / smoke ( not harmful to anyone inhaling it ) meant to react to flint. dragon faunus are born with a gap in their gums specifically to place either flint or a piece of dust in there in order to breath fire. ( because of this, dragon faunus are resistant to the negative effects of dust ingestion. )
the amount of dragon faunus venom produced, and the muscles associated with the reservoir react to adrenaline, an increased heart rate, as well as an instinctive urge to bite. this makes the four major states of increased smoke production anger, nervousness, happiness, and arousal. the smoke itself is a different scent depending on the person, as it is theorised the venom is made from aura, the scent is as unique as the aura itself. ren’s smoke smells like lily incense. ren has a good sense of control over their smoke. not only does their semblance help them with controlling their emotions, but it is ingrained in lie dragon faunus to keep calm and focus so their smoke cannot be used to track them down. it is very rare of ren to lose their composure enough for someone to see the smoke ( especially when they are still hiding the fact that they are fauni. ) the smoke has a slight reflective property when inhaled, making the subject feel the same thing ren is feeling. if it is inhaled when ren is happy, then the subject will become happier too.
a fairly common attribute in some faunus are different genetic make up. ren is capable of processing raw meat in times of extreme desperation, even though their culinary knowledge and ability to breathe fire make this obsolete. they also have powerful lungs that aren’t as susceptible to things like cigarette smoke and harsh airborne chemicals, or at least corrode slower than human lungs. ren also has eyes which dilate and contract depending on exposure to sunlight, tougher nails to build up claws, fangs, etc.
dragon faunus bones are hollow, like a bird’s. to be honest, i have the same physiology headcanon about any faunus that can fly. they’re not completely hollow but there are air pockets within the bones. skeletal pneumaticity allows for a redistribution of mass within the body, and though does not drastically affect ren’s weight ( they’re a little lighter for a male their age ) this part of their physiology allows for better balance of weight within the body to allow for greater balance, agility, and ( with winged dragon faunus ) ease of flight. because of this, dragon faunus are susceptible to calcium deficiencies and bone diseases.
because ren’s horns were broken off when they were young and continuously filed down, they are small for their age. in dragon culture, it would be embarrassing to have horns this small unless you were still a child. dragons in ren’s region used to decorate their horns with intricate carvings, with jewellery, but ren is too afraid of damaging the integrity of them. the most they’ll do is wrap some flower and flower stems around them. because of their trauma concerning their horns, no one but close friends and family are allowed to touch them.
the reason the lie family heads have an extensive reputation for being isolating in regards to protecting their family comes from ancient horror stories of dragon poaching. the reason dragon faunus are so rare is because they are an ancient ancestral line rich with magic in their own physiology. they have been murdered and harvested for their faunus traits before. it’s a common thread of mythology that dragons were once made of pure magic ( originating from old stories of the two brothers ) and there is not one part of the dragon that cannot be sold for a very high price on the black market.
list of dragon part properties below, cut for length.
dragon bones are highly valuable because of their slow decomposition and strength. they are however hollow, which explains the common trait in lie heirs of valuing speed and agility over strength, making them very gifted in acrobatics and free running. dragon bones were often used to craft heat and lava proof tools. they were also used to create strong weaponry which seemed to amplify the strength of dust.
dragon eyes have six optic nerves to see light in different part so the colour spectrum, as opposed to the human’s one optic nerve. dust — aided lenses created using dragon eye could reveal parts of the dragon’s advance eyesight to regular humans and most faunus.
dragon scales are diamond hard, capable of resisting most projectiles unaffected, and are most often made of the minerals used to create their suitable gemstone, ie. an emerald scale to suit ren’s would be made out of beryl, chromium, and vanadium. dragon scales have a lifespan ; where they are fresh and newly grown they are their most beautiful and valuable, the extraction of a fresh scale is the most painful similar to the extraction of a fingernail and leaves scars in the shape of the outline of the scale. a dragon scale extracted stays the same and will not go through it’s lifespan. dragon scales dull over time, and are quicker to dull depending on the age of the dragon. when they are duller they are easier to remove, and it is at this point where they can be shaped into top notch jewellery, or even melted down into weaponry or dust — enhanced / enhancing tools. this cannot be done with fresh scales. the last stage of the scale is when they fall off to make room for a fresh new set of scales, it is at this point when they can be ground into actual dust ( this is where the foundation of ‘ dragons are made from magic ‘ mythology came from ) or turned into a potent drug which temporarily enhances semblance but at the terrifying cost of turning your flesh into crystal, and when it wears off the flesh turned crystal will either stay as is or crumble away. there is also a rumour that dragon scales dissolved into sulphuric acid, and again into 100 parts water can create an invisible ink glowing only under the magnetic conditions pertaining to the shattered moon.
dragon wings are one of the most light and durable materials known to man, primarily used in the age of brutality to aid in the creation of flying machines. they are fireproof, waterproof, and generally indirect damage proof. they will still break under physical pressure and are one of the slowest recovering parts of their body, the most effective outside weak spot. in a way similar to a tongue, most regenerative ability distributes to the wing first and then the rest of the body. the wings are highly important weak spots, in the words of the vikings, a downed dragon is a dead dragon. dragons with wings primarily made of feathers were also targeted; specifically because dragon quills are perfect for creating dust tattoos having no need to dip the quill in dust before applying it to the skin. it is just automatically there, since the feathers when burnt create dust in their ashes.
dragon teeth are commonly used to create dust — amplifying weapons, but the most valuable part of the dragon mouth is most definitely the venom reservoir ( mentioned above ). dragon faunus produce this all their lives, no matter if they use them or not. the smoke produced from combining the spark pouch and the venom reservoir is rumoured to reflect the temperament of the user once inhaled. the material in the venom reservoir is still unknown!! it has very few common traits, though is rumoured to take on characteristics depending on person. ren’s venom is the same colour as their eyes and aura. their venom is deceptively sweet smelling, and though ren hasn’t learnt much through experimentation, knows that the smoke they produce often smells like fading incense.
dragon blood is a slow corrosive. this is one of the most rare dragon faunus traits. in small doses can promote health and regeneration, in the rarest cases able to cure incurable diseases and even regenerate lost limbs ( like a lizard ). it can be used to heal most wounds. ingested dragon’s blood in high doses can corrode the body from the inside out, damaging the brain and language centre first. those that have abused dragon’s blood before are recorded to speak some strange ancient language before dying. the ancient lie clan believed this language was that of the moon men. unbeknownst to her, ren’s mother was a dragon faunus with one such trait. she did not know this for the entirety of her existence, though she did miraculously heal from a terminal illness as she aged. she effectively destroyed her matrilineal history of a special terminal illness that has affected their family for countless generations. she never came to know this, and until ren has children, and their children have children, they might never know.
western origin dragon horns hollowed out produce beautiful music. there is no magical trait about them save for particularly successful results when used in pagan rituals, or high levels of luck in killing enemies when made into a dust — amplifying weapon. horns are considered the least valuable of all dragon parts, and thus are the most common trait.

Whats your name? Stephanie. Empty your pockets FOOL! what’s in them? No pockets. I never use ‘em anyway. Are there any bands you have just started listening to? No. Have you got anything fun planned this week? We’ve been wanting to go see Captain Marvel, but there hasn’t been a day that works for us between my mom and brother’s schedules. What is your opinions on valentines day? cheesetastic is it not? It’s just another day for me, but I’m sure it could be fun and cute for some people.
What way are your feet positioned now? My legs are to the side. Do you know anyone who deserves a good smack in the face? No. What is the last item you purchased and what was its price? Food. I spent $10. Are you particular with grammar/spelling? I am. Dus Dese m@kE u wanT to PoUr SulphURiC aCiD dwn my tHroat? This is a crime. Or even those kind of questions in surveys?^ I don’t see anyone typing like that anymore, thankfully. What is the last thing you wrote? (typing is not writing, btw) My signature. Don’t you just hate when you get writer’s block? I’m not a writer. Who is the last person that gave you butterflies? Doctor, but not in a good way. have you ever told a guy/girl that you were gay so they would stop hitting on you? No. What were you doing half an hour ago? My Bible study. What is the worst film you have ever watched? There’s been a few crappy ones. When is the last time you have travelled abroad? I went to Mexico once, back in like 2007. Do you ever think the words ‘nope’ and 'yep’ are really strange? Nope. Do you watch rugby? No. Do you have an outfit that you consider your 'seduction outfit’? Ha, no. Unless someone is really into the very casual look that consists of leggings, sweats, pajama pants, and oversized shirts. Does it bother you when people throw cigarette butts out of car windows? Yes. I don’t recall. :X Is there anything you would rather be doing right now? I’d like to go get Wingstop. lol so okay here’s a stupid ramble for you: Yesterday I was craving wings and Wingstop is my jam, but it’s out of the way and we were on a time schedule cause my bro had work. There’s actually one nearby where he works, but I didn’t want him to go there to get it, bring it back to me, and then have to go back that way for work, ya know? Anyway, we ended up going to another wing place near us and I got the flavor I’d get at Wingstop (garlic parm) thinking it would be good and fine and I’d satisfy my wings craving. Wellll, I was wrong. They should have been called, “zesty garlic parm” cause they were spicy af. I used to be obSESSED with spicy food, but a few years ago I unfortunately developed a sensitivity to it and my taste buds and stomach can’t handle it anymore, which really, REALLY sucks. So, obviously because of that I wasn’t able to eat them and I was really bummed. D: I wanted to go to Wingstop today for lunch cause the craving is still alive and well, but that won’t be happening because my bro is currently without a car (his is broken down at the moment and he didn’t want to get up and take my mom to work earlier so that we’d have her car). :/ Ya girl needs her wings, damn it.

#4 Rio Celeste & Rincon de la Vieja, Costa Rica
Our obscured views on that misty day in Arenal had left us lusting for more volcanic scenery. We pressed on northwards through acres of striking countryside, reaching the tiny village of Bijagua in what seemed like a flash. Here, we’d rented a small apartment to rest our heads for the night. But first we dumped our bags and turned back on ourselves to re-enter Tenorio Volcano National Park, all in a quest to see sky blue waters of Rio Celeste.
If you’ve ever been exposed to any pictures of Costa Rica, the chances are you’ve caught a glimpse of Rio Celeste before. It’s distinctive turquoise waters make it a common inclusion on post cards and the front cover of tourism materials. The river is unsurprisingly very popular, and the park wisely limits the trail to 400 people at a time. Fortunately, we arrived early enough to walk straight through (after paying of course). The path to view the waters is relatively gentle and easy going, making it accessible for all. By chance, or due to questionable map reading skills, we managed to save the pièce de résistance, the waterfall, till last. Our attention in the meantime honed in on some of the other notable features along the river, including: the magnificent blue lagoon, the pungent bubbling borballones, and the intriguing point of Tenidores. This trail end is where you can view two separate clear water rivers, Buenavista and Sour Creek, merge into one to create the vivid coloured Rio Celeste. The physical phenomenon known as Mie scattering is, in simplistic terms, caused by mineral rich waters combining with highly acidic volcanic waters and rays sunlight. The alternative explanation on offer, long held by locals, is that God dipped his brush into the river while he was painting the sky blue. We’re backing the science explanation.
After admiring the pre-waterfall build up, we finally descended down a set of steep steps to catch our first glance of the main attraction. We weren’t disappointed. The encompassing greenery amplified the colours on show. The picturesque and mineral rich falls have carved the rock face to leave behind a warming orange hue. The immense plunge pool glimmers like a enormous turquoise gemstone. It’s the quintessential waterfall. One that almost looks photoshopped even when viewing in person. We had to prise ourselves away from the view. As we exited the park we spotted various fleeing lizards along with an unperturbed white nosed coati.
We departed Bijagua the next morning and set our sights on Rincon de la Vieja National Park. We knew little about our next destination. The tip off came from one of the guys at the car hire company after we mentioned we had desires to hike during our trip. Heeding his advice, we waved goodbye to the region of Alajuela and entered into the agricultural province of Guanacaste in pursuit of the Santa Maria Volcano lodge. It was a smidge too late in the day to get the most out of the trails on offer when we arrived. We instead rambled around the beautiful surrounding gardens of our wooden lodge. It’s easy to stay occupied in the outdoors of Costa Rica. Our first treat was a duo of chattering bright green parrots, followed by a wonderfully colourful keel-billed toucan who was hopping between branches with consummate ease. We pondered and sat in awe of the garden for some hours before heading out for dinner. Thankfully, a new favourite of ours, Casado, was on the menu. This typical Costa Rican dish comprises of rice and beans, salad, plantain, salsas, a corn tortilla, and portion of meat or veg of your choosing. A complete meal, and one always served at a reasonable price. We washed it down with a guanabana juice and closed the day feeling content.
By 8 am the next day we were back on the road. We had ambitions to cover three separate hikes in the national park, amounting some decent mileage. The park spans some 34,000 acres, however the route up to the crater of the Rincon De La Vieja volcano has long been closed due to a large eruption back in 2011. Luckily there are plenty of other trails on offer and we decided on the Cataratas La Cangreja trail as our first route. Within moments of entering the park this windy path led us into a section of shady forest sporting some epically large trees. We turned to one another and acknowledged how this was the type of trail we’d been longing for. It felt less pruned and righteous from the first step.
In time, the forest trail fed us out into an expansive savannah sandwiched between two volcanoes masquerading as hills. Our first clear view of any since arriving.
The prize at the end of the trail? A 50m waterfall and crystal clear lagoon. Unfortunately, swimming is now prohibited, but it was possible to clamber around the fringes to get up and close to the fall. We enjoyed a modest lunch before starting to make our way back along the path we’d come from.
After 3 km or so, we approached the turn off point for our second route of the day, Cartaratas Escondidas. This trail was shorter, but the 2km scrambly ascent was far more gruelling. After hoisting ourselves up past the last few blackened boulders we caught our breathe to an expansive panoramic view extending out northwards towards Nicaragua and across both the Pacific and Caribbean sides of the country. We barely encountered another soul on the path, and soon found ourselves at the top of another sizeable fall looking down.
At first we parked our heavy legs and dipped our feet in the cool water believing this was the finish line, but a side path invited us to explore further. After a couple of minutes of tentatively venturing on around a corner we discovered a worn rope leading down to the real end point. You guessed it, another waterfall. This time around we took advantage of the secluded setting, and plunged into the water for a refreshing dip. We bounced back down the trail revitalised and ready to squeeze in the most popular trail in the park, Sendero Las Pailas.
The main draw of this loop route is six separate viewpoints that allow you to get up close to bubbling mud pools and sulphurous fumeroles. Intriguing as all this volcanic activity was, we moved fairly hastily due to the crowds, eggy stench, and our tiring legs. We’ve since learnt that all of this geothermal energy is being harnessed into the Las Palais Power Plant which generates some serious megawattage. Just one of the many alternative energy methods the country makes the most of.
On the route back we bravely decided to ignore sat nav instructions after spotting a sign post for our lodge. This led us down a bone jangling narrow dirt road for 45 minutes, but also came we some benefits. We pierced through dense forest, completed our first river crossing, and were treated to a rainbow to top the day off.
It was the type of road 4x4s are built for, and our little Karando didn’t struggle one bit. Rincon de la Vieja had surpassed our expectations. We unquestionably enjoyed our best day in Costa Rica’s wilderness yet.

The spot offers for Sodium Sulphate have been observed to be on a bullish run throughout the second quarter of 2022. The supply turmoil unleashed by Russia's invasion of Ukraine has severely impacted trade activities across the globe. On the upstream price front, the Sulphuric Acid Costs have also surged by approximately 8% towards the end of Q2, prompting enough cost pressure on the market values of Sodium Sulphate. As a result, a consistent surge has been observed in manufacturers' quotations. As per the market players, the supply shortages have constrained production capacity as the input costs and output charges have escalated at substantial rates. In addition, the surge in material tariffs and increased fuel and transportation charges have driven up the operating expenses and supported the escalated values of Sodium Sulphate.

After a freefall, Toluene prices rebound In the US and Europe
Toluene prices have started to rise in US and Europe after witnessing a continuous drop since November backed by the tight supplies and surging demand from the downstream fuel and chemical industry.
Across the European region, the upstream Naphtha market has been experiencing tightness since last week amid supply restrictions. Delaying cargoes to Northwest Europe from Baltic states as a repercussion of the bad weather in the black sea and winter storms in Russia have been exerting pressure on the domestic traders. Consequently, healthy demand and unavailability of the material on spot basis in the European Toluene market have resulted in inflation in its pricing trend.
The USA Toluene market is now mimicking the European market sentiments as Toluene prices have started recovering after going through a downward trajectory consecutively for three months. An increase in Toluene prices is attributed to the spike in the upstream Benzene values and improvement in the offtakes from the downstream manufacturers. Moreover, lagging in production levels owing to hurricane season in last quarter and lower trading activities due to year-end dullness have led to product shortage in the region, consequently, influencing the prices of Toluene. Besides, the US Toluene market is also experiencing the effect of the International Maritime Organization global Sulphur cap that is turning out positive for Toluene's demand outlook.
Toluene is an aromatic hydrocarbon, derived as a byproduct in the production of gasoline by ethylene cracker or from petrochemical-based feedstock such as benzene in the presence of AlCl3. It is used in a wide range of industrial applications such as in the manufacturing of paints, glues, lacquers, dyes, stain removers, nail polish, and chemicals such as benzoic acid, trinitrotoluene, etc. It is also employed as a solvent and an octane booster or anti-knock fuel additive.
According to ChemAnalyst, Toluene prices are anticipated to showcase a significant climb in the near term. Firm demand, squeezed supplies, and a rise in the blending margins are expected to keep the Toluene prices strong in Europe and the USA in the coming quarter. Moreover, In the US, the aromatics market is going through the impact of EPA changes and the demand for Toluene and Xylenes has recovered to pre-pandemic levels which is also going to affect the market dynamics and prices of Toluene in the region.

Sommelier Jenna Isaacs ‘Can’t Stop Popping Bottles’ of Champagne in Quarantine
On Friday, June 12, 2020, Jenna Isaacs will be working a shift with VinePair to answer any and all of your wine questions. No question is too simple or too advanced. Text a Somm is a fundraiser in partnership with The United Sommeliers Foundation to benefit the thousands of wine professionals whose careers have been put on hold during the Covid-19 crisis. In addition to paying the sommelier for their shift, VinePair will be making a donation to the USF, and so can you by clicking here. Text your questions to Jenna from 7-10 PM ET on Friday, June 12 at (914) 580-4540.
Jenna Isaacs is a sommelier in San Luis Obispo, Calif. At the forthcoming Park 1039, Isaacs has curated a list for wine collectors and enthusiasts — and natural wine geeks.
“From Chianti to Napa Valley, every unique producer I choose has to meet certain requirements for sustainable viticulture and minimal-intervention vinification,” Isaacs tells VinePair. “That means the wines you will find on our shelves are a mix of (practicing) organic, biodynamic, and or sulphur-free. I can tell you about all of these incredible winemakers and their stories.”
Isaacs also plans to run a Contemporary Wine Club “featuring some of the best natural wines in the world,” she says. At the same time, the list is “studded with deep vintage and region variation, from grand cru Burgundy to 1998 Chateau Musar from Lebanon.”
Below, Isaacs tells us about the bottles she’s popping in quarantine, her favorite Georgian wine, and why a simple smile and a “relaxed, normal pace” can go a long way when serving guests.
1. What are you drinking the most in quarantine?
If I’m being completely honest, the thing I’m drinking the most of is Champagne. I just can’t stop popping bottles for even the slightest reason. “Top Chef” is coming on? Hold on, let me get my saber.
2. What is the most expensive/ridiculous/memorable bottle you’ve opened in quarantine?
I think the most expensive bottle I’ve opened has to be the 1984 Vieux Château Certan from Pomerol. It was showing beautifully, and I’d say the wine is at its peak now.
3. How do you make guests feel comfortable if they seem intimidated by you (in a restaurant)?
When I’m working the floor in a restaurant, I make sure to smile often. I always try to seem relaxed, walk at a normal pace, and take my time with guests. It’s a lot more intimidating to ask a somm for help if they’re running around, seem stressed, or unhappy. I make sure when I come over to radiate happiness and calm — so that the guests feel comfortable enough to start a dialogue about the wine list. I make sure they know I’m there for them, and that I’m going to make sure they have a great time. I also make sure not to be around too much.
4. What’s the best wine you can get at the grocery or discount store?
The best wine to get consistently at a grocery store is Champagne. Laurent Perrier, Henriot, Billecart… But if you want to be impressed, go to California Fresh Market or Whole Foods. They carry some fantastic Central Coast producers like Stolpman, Dragonette, and Story of Soil, to name a few. I would personally choose the Liquid Farm White Hills Chardonnay, a biodynamically farmed Chablis-esque style of Chardonnay that embodies richness and minerality.
5. What regions and styles of wines are you most interested in?
I am most interested in energetic, low-alcohol wines. I want a wine that has it all: structure, fruit, balance, and acidity. And then I’d like to be able to drink three bottles and not be sloshed! I can’t say that I’m most interested in any specific region, because I think the world of so many. With that being said, I am currently exploring the wines of Turkey, Hungary, and Georgia. One of the wines from Georgia I’m most impressed with right now is Shakarashvili Kisi 2010, from Kakheti. It’s one of the most fabulous amber wines I have ever tasted.
6. What’s the best way to ask for a budget-friendly bottle at a restaurant?
The best way to ask for a budget-friendly wine at a restaurant is to know what you’re comfortable spending before you get there. Feeling confident knowing what your ideal budget is will take the pressure off of you to decide when you get the menu. Asking your somm for the best bottle of wine “under $50” or “under $100” is a fun way to get your somm talking.
7. Which regions offer the best value?
When it comes to value, I have to give my No. 1 spot to the Loire Valley. There is such incredible diversity within one region, and you can’t beat the price. Look for crisp, refreshing whites like Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, and my favorite briny white, Melon de Bourgogne for under $25. Some other amazing wines from the Loire are made with Grolleau (please go forth and try some), Cabernet Franc, and Gamay. If you haven’t already, try J. Mourat O.V.N.I. Rosé of Grolleau Gris.
8. Where do you like to buy wine online (or which clubs do you recommend)?
Shopping online for classic wines with some age, I like Benchmark. They have competitive prices and excellent customer service. For my more natural or value wines, I head to Primal Wine or domaineLA. The only wine club I’m currently subscribed to is Viticole Wine Club, created by Master Sommelier Brian McClintic. It’s a mind-blowing, incredible club — but just know that you’re going to stare longingly at most of your bottles for five to 10 years before opening them.

8 Ways You’re Ruining Your Appearance Without Realising
http://fashion-trendin.com/8-ways-youre-ruining-your-appearance-without-realising/
8 Ways You’re Ruining Your Appearance Without Realising
As a regular FashionBeans reader, it goes without saying that you’re a highly skilled and well educated ‘groomsman’. You maintain your facial hair with the deftness of Zorro. You moisturise your under-eye with the ethereal touch of a brush from an angel’s wing. You see your barber more frequently than you do some close family members.
However, even the most savvy among you could be inadvertently undoing all your hard work in front of the bathroom mirror every morning and night. Sun exposure, air pollution, poor diet, smoking, stress, lack of sleep – these deleterious things you’re no doubt wise to. But we’ll bet our La Prairie cellular hydrating serum that you’re sleeping on one or more of the below.
Having A Shower
We’re not saying you should go without, or join the no-poo movement (as in ‘shampoo’ – nothing to do with constipation). You need a degree of heat just to get the grime off. Just be mindful of temperature and duration.
“Don’t exceed 40°C (105°F) maximum,” says Dr Anton Alexandroff, consultant dermatologist and British Skin Foundation spokesperson. “The ideal temperature for skin is lukewarm. And showering for 10-20 minutes is fine, an hour is not.”
The other problem area is your products. “Generally, shower gels and soaps are okay to wash with, but if your skin gets dry and itchy, consider washing with moisturiser,” continues Dr Alexandroff. “Creams and moisturising gels can be used as you would a shower gel. Alternatively, lather ointment with water to make it soapy.” Check the label first though: “Some moisturisers contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), which can irritate sensitive skin.”
All that remains is to clear up the poo-or-not-to-poo issue. “Not using shampoo runs the risk of increasing the microbial content of the hair and scalp, which in turn causes itchy and flaky conditions such as dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis,” says Iain Sallis (hairmedic.co.uk) and a member of the Institute of Trichologists. “And no, your hair does not clean itself after a while – you just get used to the feel of the grease.”
Having A Bubble Bath
Who among us isn’t partial to a long soak in a foamy tub after a hard game of five-a-side with a book or magazine, a cup of tea or maybe a glass of wine, perhaps a scented candle? Bad news: as smoking is to your lungs, so suds are to your dermis.
“Surfactants, the chemicals that make bubbles, really degrease your skin,” says Dr Alexandroff. The solution – aside from skipping the bubbles – is to moisturise straight after, and extra over the following few days. Which frankly is a small price to pay.
Hot tubs meanwhile can harbour nasty pests beyond sleazy guys. “If you have spots on your body after a Jacuzzi, visit your GP or a dermatologist,” adds Dr Alexandroff. “You may be given antibiotics for gram-negative bacteria.” Which will also be negative for your ‘gram.
Having A Man Bun
Unpicking the moral and philosophical conundrum that is the samurai top-knot is for another article. What is inarguable is the effect that the male equivalent of a Croydon facelift has on your scraped-back hair.
“Wrapping long hair into a tight bun for days, weeks or months on end can cause traction alopecia,” warns Sallis. “That constant tension on your hair results in a micro-inflammation in the hair follicle, which could eventually lead to those areas thinning.”
Is man bun pattern baldness poetic justice, karmic retribution or proof of a higher power? We couldn’t possibly comment.
Moisturising Against The Grain
You already know not to shave against the grain. (You’d be red-faced if you didn’t.) But moisturising? Are we not men? How much havoc can a cream really wreak?
“Men’s skin gets dry as well as women’s, so you should moisturise all your skin daily, but don’t rub it in against the grain,” insists Dr Alexandroff. “Smooth along, especially if you’re using a greasy moisturiser, to reduce the risk of blocking hair follicles – a cause of folliculitis.”
As with shaving, the key is to follow the direction of hair growth. On your face and neck, this can vary between areas. But away from there, things get simpler. “When moisturising limbs, generally go from the centre of your body towards your extremities, so from upper legs to feet and from upper arms to hands,” says Dr Alexandroff.
Being Vegan
Yes, you can enjoy clearer skin as well as a clear conscience by forsaking all animal products: dairy can aggravate acne, particularly if it’s not heat-treated. But there’s one hairy critter who could lose out. “Your hair desperately needs sulphur-rich amino acids and iron to grow well, both of which are in abundance in a slab of steak,” says Sallis.
That doesn’t mean that you’re doomed to have bad hair, or fellow mammals have to die to preserve your luscious locks: just ensure that you’re taking in the right types of proteins and iron from elsewhere. Chowing down outside of a 12-hour window salts the game of your enzymes, one of which, XPA, is responsible for repairing UV damage. A late dinner shifts the cycle of XPA back, which in turn reduces the degree of repair and protection the next day. Table for two at 7pm, then.
Taking Steroids
As a FashionBeans reader, we’d also hope that your idea of hardcore juicing would be chugging liquefied kale without so much as a dash of lemon juice. But with public health experts recently announcing that as many as 1m UK men are taking steroids and other Image- and Performance-Enhancing Drugs (IPEDs), it’d be remiss not to mention another reason why that’s aesthetically counterproductive, beyond bacne and man-boobs.
“The same meds also increase the interaction between testosterone and your hair,” explains Sallis. “This will equate to the male-pattern hair-loss gene being enacted quicker than it naturally would otherwise.” Less beast mode, more shaved gorilla.
