The Princes

Ten years later. When marrying a Prince turns a Queen and a Servant into actual Royalties.

Because Vil deserves a real crown and Jamil deserves to be treated better.

NOW I'M GONNA RANT ABOUT MY CHARA DESIGNS CHOICES AND ALL THE DISCOVERIES I MADE WHILE LOOKING FOR REFS! If you only care about art and funny doodles, you can scroll down for a handful of slices of life.

(Don't worry if you can't read my notes, I'm repeating myself better right under this)

Leona

-Lion: As you may know, one of my grievances with Leona is how his hair doesn't look like an actual mane despite being a lion. While I don't want to stray too far from the canon design with the usual drawings, that's the occasion for me to have some fun with a future version. Give that lion a beard and voluminous hair!

-Hair: First, get those bangs out of his face. Despite Leona being very confident, he still has bangs covering his scarred eye. I wanted him to finally own the aspects of him that may be scary to others (his UM, his scar, etc). I actually went with bangs framing his face similar to the ones he had during his Overblot. I wasn't sure whether to give him dreadlocks or curly hair, but I ended up choosing the free curls decorated with some atebas and braids so that Vil could have more fun styling them.

-Eye: Thanks @aria-faye for the idea, I decided to have his eye gradually lose its capacities with time. From a headcanon that, while the eye wasn't directly touched by whatever attack scarred him, the process of healing still had an impact on it and he gradually lost sight in his left eye years after years.

-Body: Not giving him a dad bod (yet, maybe in another ten years), but definitely giving him more voluminous yet casual muscles. Practical muscles with a healthy dose of fat and tissues. Also giving him two full sleeves of tattoos because I decided he should have much more than just his lion tattoo.

-Clothes: Went full Maasai dressing and Kenyan fabrics and beadworks. If you're not familiar with it, please go check it out, it's GORGEOUS!! Crown is beadwork too. He also has one Arabic styled foot jewellery.

Jamil

-Hair: My first order was to remove his double-faced hairstyle and also remove his bangs from his eye. Make him confident enough to show his whole face. Unlike Leona and Vil, he doesn't really want a crown though (he still feels weird about becoming royalty) so instead he uses a braid as crown. Also gave him a little goatee because I like facial hair and Jafar has a beard too.

-Body: He grew up! While he didn't quite catch up with Leona and Vil, he is now closer to their sizes than before, sitting at around 180cm. He kept his breakdancer/martial artist lean muscles but developed a bit of shoulders.

-Clothes: Went full Arabic dressing and fabrics (once more, go check the fabrics, they are pieces of arts). I gave him floral motifs instead of his usual fire/snake motifs (though he does have a snake earring and a fangs necklace) to symbolise his rebirth/blooming. Like Leona, he has one piece of jewellery that is beadwork.

Vil

-Hair: Here it was a bit tricky. Considering Vil's work, he likely changes hairstyles a lot, going from long to short for his roles instead of his wants. So I leaned into the little things he could add to his hair despite their constant changes, mostly jewelleries, beadworks and wool decorations he stole from his husbands. He also cares a bit less about them looking perfect and is allowing himself to be more natural. He doesn't have any facial hair (yet), keeping a youthful appearance for as long as he can. In another ten years though, he might start looking more and more like his father, beard included.

-Clothes: For Leona and Jamil's mental states, the three of them most likely started living in Sunset Savanna so they wouldn't freeze to death. Vil is well traveled so he can handle most temperatures without trouble, and he is used to dressing up in the local get ups. Here I decided to give him both African dress and Arabic fabric, and likewise both beadwork and golden jewellery. I gave him crown and heart motifs so he can keep being himself despite borrowing a lot from his husbands.

There, I'm done rambling. Here's some doodles, followed by some random headcanons.

-Vil does his husbands hair every morning and keeps giving them more and more intricate hairstyles. He developed a whole haircare and beard-care products set for them.

-When Vil is away for a movie, Jamil keeps his hair mostly down save for a few accessories.

-Jamil and Falena get along surprisingly well (to Leona's despair). Vil gets along very well with Falena's wife.

-Jamil acts as a Scalding Sands ambassador and still is the one to care for Kalim when he comes to visit, though this time he's doing it because he wants to and not because he has to.

-Vil got used to his new title immediately but Jamil struggles with it a lot. He still has a hard time wrapping his head around the fact that he is no longer a servant.

-The servants at the palace love Jamil because he always makes their job easier.

-Leona finally decided to put his wits to good use and became Falena's advisor. He still fights a lot with Kifaji about the direction to take with the country, but he managed to make some of his ideas heard to help with the staggering inequalities in the country.

You had met Benedict at a social event this past season and the two of you got on very well, any time you saw each other in passing you had to stop and make conversation. You felt at ease with him, he was so down to Earth unlike most of the uptight socialites of the city. You were very fond of him in general and it seemed he felt the same about you. Not to mention the fact you were also very attracted to him. He often spoke to you about his art and his passion for finding the beauty in life, he showed you his work book of sketches, all of random things he found beautiful even if most people don't.

Today on a casual stroll in the park, Benedict casually asked you if you would like to be the subject of one of his paintings, you had never thought of modeling before but it intrigued you. You were always curious on how people viewed you and this would show you his perspective of you, so you agreed. He brought you back to his studio and showed you some of paintings he had hanging around by artists that inspired him, then he lead you over to the center of the room where he had a large sheet of white paper spread across the floor. You assumed it was to protect his floors from any paint drippings but you were quite wrong.

"This is our canvas for today, my lady" Benedict smiles

You chuckle and furrow your brows a bit "I'm sorry what? Are you going to draw a life size version of me?"

"No, dear" he laughs softly "I'm going to paint with you. I want to use your body as a brush, if that's okay with you of course" he adds that last part in quickly to reassure you can pull out at any time. There's a sparkle in his eyes as he explains how he wants to cover your nude bodies in paint and roll around making an abstract design. "So, what do you say?" His voice is filled with hope, he desperately wants you to say yes.

You think about his offer for a moment, the thought of being naked with him excites you but also makes you very nervous. You have only known him a short amount of time but you trust him a lot, you nod with a soft smile "okay, I'm in."

"Excellent" he grins and claps his hands together once "you can get undressed while I prepare the paints." he gives you a comforting smile then turns around and walks to the back of his studio where he keeps his paint. You slowly start to undress, you feel the butterflies in your stomach intensifying as you shed each piece of clothing. Finally naked, you fold your clothes neatly and set them on a small sofa nearby. The window of the studio is cracked out letting in a soft breeze, you feel goosebumps grow on your bare skin and your nipples become erect.

A few moments later, Benedict came back carrying a tray with small cans full of paint "alright here we are-" he stops dead in his tracks when he sees you, his eyes wide in surprise as he takes all of you in "wow... you're absolutely breathtaking" his voice is so soft it's almost a whisper

You chuckle nervously, you feel your whole body start to heat up "um, thank you, sir" you wrap your arms around your body, very aware of how exposed you are. He steps closer to you and sets the tray on a small table, he picks up a can filled with red paint and holds it up to you.

"May I?" He asks for permission, you nod slightly giving him full access to your body. He dips two fingers into the paint and slowly runs them along your collar bone, it slowly starts to drip down your front as your body temperature melts the paint. He works his way down your body, streaking the red all over you, his fingertips ever so slightly graze your nipples sending a shiver down your spine. "Beautiful" he whispers softly before setting the paint canister down and began to strip his clothes off.

You watched him closely as each article of clothing flew from his body leaving him bare in front of you. He gripped your arm softly and turned you around, he slowly poured some of the paint down your back letting it cascade down your back. He presses himself against your back slightly, you can feel his breath tickling your neck as he began to place soft hot kisses along the side. He used one hand to rub the red all over your back, a gasp caught in your throat as his larges hands rubbed soft circles on your ass.

When he finished he turned you around to face him, he picked up a can of blue paint and handed it to you "now you do me" his voice soft but laced with something more sensual. You take the can and start to smear blue all over his body, trying desperately to avoid his intimate areas as best as possible even if it was staring right at you. Once he was blue from the neck down he gently took your hand and brought you down to the paper on the floor. "Lay back, darling," he instructed playfully "we're gonna roll around a bit" he chuckles before rolling on top of you, his arms wrapped around your body as he goes in for a kiss.

Things escalated quickly from there, paint began to adorn the paper as you two made love. Shades of blue and red mixed together leaving streaks of purple behind, hand prints of different colors could be seen throughout the paper. Moans filled the studio, there was also the occasional sound of paper ripping when things became too intense. When it was all said and done, Benedict framed the work and even put it up in a gallery. People always asked how he created such an abstract piece of art, he came up with a story of how he just started throwing paint at the canvas. Only you and him ever knew the truth.

Viktor:

Viktor likes to bully ten year olds on Roblox and correct their shitty grammar.

He’ll say the most outrageous thing, like dropping life-altering lore, and then follow it up with “but it’s okay because it’s just character development, y’know?”

Viktor goes feral when men pull their sleeves up their forearms (*cough, cough* especially Jayce).

He bites his nails when he’s anxious, and he paints them to try and stop it from happening (it never works).

Viktor is afraid to close his eyes for too long in the shower because he thinks someone will stab him.

He started reading Wattpad at age 11 (he has dacryphilia).

Viktor’s got a very high alcohol tolerance, it takes a lot for him to get drunk.

Sometimes he forgets to eat or drink water and then wonders why his head always hurts.

Viktor has a cat named Catalyst (pun intended).

He always wears long sleeves, even in the summer.

No one ever knows when he’s joking because he’s too sarcastic all the time.

Viktor is very pretty, sort of like in an androgynous way.

Jayce:

Jayce cried when he watched The Notebook.

He is very protective of the people he cares for, maybe even obsessively so.

Jayce is extremely indecisive, and it’s gotten him into some trouble.

The type to only know how to play one song on the guitar: Wonderwall.

He’s super touchy; hands on shoulders, hair ruffling, hugs from behind, poking to get someone’s attention, etc.

Jayce is an artist, but only in the sense that he gets spontaneous bursts of motivation and then he’ll spend the whole day drawing.

Giant bear hugs, I’m talking full-body wrap around, warmth that feels like you’re hugging a damn furnace.

Jayce sees one thing on the internet that he finds hilarious and then he’ll say it 24/7 for weeks until he finds a new joke.

He’s always wearing mismatched socks, or the really odd socks with the strange patterns (like the ones with sailboats on them or bananas).

An overthinker and a people pleaser (a lethal combo).

Jayce is a total oversharer, like obnoxiously so (Viktor doesn’t really mind, he finds it endearing).

He’s a chronic “your mom” joke user.

Jayvik:

Jayce can’t fathom the idea that Viktor has kissed anyone else besides him, so every time he thinks about it, he gets angry-clingy.

Viktor will watch Jayce sleep sometimes because he looks so beautiful and at peace.

Jayce absolutely adores when Viktor speaks in Czech.

Viktor will leave Jayce little notes/poems in his jacket pockets or bag pockets.

Jayce and Viktor can be mid-cuddle session, and Jayce will just feel the sudden urge to bite Viktor.

Viktor fell first, Jayce fell harder.

How do you (personally) balance designs looking cool and practical/realistic? I feel like I get stuck on my spec bio that I lose the fun in designing. Or I can't find anything neat from the animals I use for inspiration to add and don't know where to look for other ideas.

you gotta add life and whimsy. sounds kinda weird and maybe doesn't make sense, but it's true. you can spend all sorts of time making a perfected realistic looking design and if there's no life and whimsy in it, it feels flat. you can practice this by drawing very fast gestural poses, putting your character/creature designs in Situations and drawing how they'd react, and just practicing expressive faces.

Make a whole character out of your creation. doesn't have to be a character you give a name to and keep around forever as a new story protagonist or dnd character or whatever. you just have to breathe some individuality and life into it for a bit.

I'll try to illustrate what I mean.

body language and facial expression are so important! you gotta be loose with it to learn how to create more dynamic and lively designs. and for characters, it's also important to explore things like culture and personality so you can individualize them.

I don't know exactly what your art style looks like or what it means for you to be hitting roadblocks in the design process as you try to find that balance between looking both cool and realistic. My art style is semi-realism, and I do think stylization plays a key role in crating interesting designs. the closer you get to photorealism, the more difficult it is to create dynamic designs, in my experience. it's not impossible! but getting to that skill level in realism is harder than i think some people assume it is.

I have seen a lot of photorealism art that was clearly done by skilled artists who know all the technical things about making art, but couldn't bring out the life in their subjects. it's easy to get stuck on the technical skills, to fuss over making the shadows of a portrait match the photo reference, to get so skilled at texture that you forget about gestural posing. maybe getting so invested in realistic and practical design you neglect the whimsy. fantasy is inherently whimsical! I know this blog is all about making fantasy anatomy more believable, which often means curtailing the whimsy if it gets out of hand. but the whimsy is essential! it just needs to be cultivated and pruned occasionally if it's getting in the way of your goals. and on the other hand, so does the realism! perfect realism can't really exist in fantasy, or it would already be reality, you know what I mean? if the realism is a roadblock to designs you truly enjoy, prune it back. cut the realism down to size and make room for some whimsy. that's the balance.

remember my previous post with my Scott designs? I said I would draw full bodies, so I used my lineless style! I also wanted to design Secret Life Scott, aka; Glitz!

Life Series: Scott! (take two)

The lore is still the same, I just changed up and added things to the previous four so they can be as detailed as Glitz!

Since I’ve talked about the previous Scott versions, I’ll only talk about Glitz and his design origins <3

Secret Life: Glitz

Teamed with his bandmates, Glitter (Gem) and Glam (Impulse), he makes a fun presence with his rocking sweet attitude with a hint of sass. Fulfilling his tasks might be a bit hard for everyone, but he seems to fly by them quite quickly! A charming guitarist with a sense of fashion and the spotlight.

I wanted to keep a harpy theme for Gem & the Scotts, I think it makes sense since they have a music-themed name plus they live high up! I made him a peryton so it matches with his previous lives with their additions of horns and antlers!

this is the part where I ramble about a story idea (and why there’s a particular ship in the tags)

SO. I was talking to @mewhoismyself about a secret life au with rockstar Scott with budding feelings for rascal/ upcoming artist Jimmy! Listen it could also be a Scott/Jimmy/Martyn situation but I have a whole other fic for Majorwood (gestures at the Sea Prince) but music au Flower Husbands… DO YOU HEAR ME??

I may think of the au more in the background,, I just LOVE how they all turned out and the potential to use Glitz’ design more really excites me- but what do you think? Whose design is your favorite of the five? I personally love how all of them look, my sweet darlings <3

Those of you who have read The Case of 100% Normal Feelings (which is my fic with the most hits—thank you, everybody!) will know I HC Irratino as needing glasses. That is pure headcanon, and also pure projection, on the part of me, who both has curly hair and is nearsighted in real life. I also HC he normally wears contacts, but for this art, I gave him glasses because…I could XD The ponytail was done for similar reasons. It’s kind of incredible how just giving him glasses and a ponytail makes Irratino look like a totally different person!

(By the way—if you see any mention of Irratino wearing glasses in other fanfics? That’s not the fandom sharing a single brain cell. That came from me. That is them taking inspiration from me. I’m so proud *sheds tear*)

I’m still not sure about this one, frankly. I feel like the head’s too big for the body (and that the proportions feel off in general), and the hand was an absolute pain. Partway through the sketch, I wanted to scrap the whole thing and start over ^^; But hey, it’s done, and I’m proud enough of it to make it my new profile pic, at least XD (I also said I wasn’t going to draw the ears next time so I wouldn’t have to draw stars, and then I drew him in a ponytail and forced myself to draw the star. I did that to myself. I am not ashamed to admit I used the symmetry ruler to make it look semi-decent :P)

I think if I had to say, my favorite thing about this drawing are the glasses. They came out beautiful, if I do say so myself 😌 Though drawing the folds in his shawl was also fun. As was getting to glitter up his hair tie ^^ Anyway, that’s all from me, maybe one day I’ll reach the hallowed ranks of “likes looking at her own art” XD

An update on me.

...Hi, you might know me as Lunar, or, TheLunarSystemWrites! I'm just an artist on here, trying to do things I like.... right?

Well, unfortunately, real life doesn't really... care. It doesn't care if I have friends to talk to, art to make, things I like to do.

I've been exhausted, physically and mentally. I've been busy working a lot in our home. (Painting, building, packing, inside work, cooking, etc) and it's always stressful... we're starting to get a little tight on money.

I've spent majority of my time in my bed. I don't wanna face my family members, so I've hidden away. It's hard to get up every day, and try to find the will to take care of myself.

I also recently relapsed with Bulimia, a disorder that, essentially means I throw up whatever I eat. I've been purging since September 16th, 2022. But I had awhile where I only purged once a day or none, but I'm back at it with full force. So my body doesn't have any energy left. I've also now lost my periods do to it.

I don't sleep well. It's much easier to stay up all night than waste my only free time sleeping. So I have no energy from sleeping well unless I sleep a whole day away, which makes me groggy.

Self harm is also something bothering me too, I'm too tired to do it and yet I keep doing it. Wasting precious spoons on it, I literally can't be clean for a whole year this year, that dream is dead. But, I am a few days clean as I type!

Suicidal and intrusive thoughts have been.... pesky. But I can't just leave my friends, plus I have prizes to make.

But, I'm unmotivated. I can't seem to write or draw anything. All my art is looking... regressed, to me. Everything is repetitive.

I've hated myself now more than ever in my life, I'm in a pretty bad place and I hate how self aware I am.

SPEAKING of regression! I have like, regression block. My brain isn't working with me, isn't regressing unless Involuntary. So my main coping mechanism is.... out of order.

I've been angry at the world, really pissy and moody. Tired, hungry, sad, then happy but not much. Numbness is a huge factor, I'm feeling depressed.

Not to mention, there's drama everywhere I look. This creator gets bullied, that one turns out to be disgusting. People get doxxed over opinions... it's constantly anxiety that I'll be wrongly accused, ridiculed, or abandoned. It's terrifying that people will go at each other's throats. It's exhausting to deal with it and be dragged into drama with problematic people.

Every day has been the same for me for the past 3 years. I'm tired, bored, understimulation controls me.

My friends are my lifeline right now.

I feel uncomfortable in my own body all the time, unsatisfied with my art, everything is essentially falling apart in my life.

Depression, anxiety... not a good mix to wake up disoriented and anxious, then gave zero spoons throughout the day. I'm not in a good home situation right now.

So... I kinda just... haven't been posting, role-playing, answering DMs, answering asks, etc...

I'm burnt out.

I feel like I'm a walking corpse.

Useless even.

I don't feel like myself anymore, I barely have the energy to talk to friends, every little bad things sets me back. I just can't bring myself to really engage much anymore.

So... sorry. I'm sorry, if I wasted your time. Or if this isn't like what you wanted to hear. I'm just not okay anymore, April was the last good month I had this year. APRIL.

I just wanted to update you all, there's a lot of other stuff I didn't share because it's nit important. I swear I'll get to the prizes eventually, I just ain't up to it right now. Might not be for awhile, apologies in advance!!

Hope you guys can understand, I might or might not be back to doing art, who knows. But I'll definitely get things done before that if I ever stopped. It just doesn't bring me joy, I used to hope I'd make an AU people cares about, and I've barely achieved that ^^"

I love studying, but it takes so much time

For those who follow me for not so long - I'm getting a bachelors degree in multimedia design, which includes video production, and largely - animation.

I love studying. I love that I can write an Arcane analysis for the history class, or dissect Transformers:One when writing a movie analytic. I love animation in every shape or form, be it 3D or 2D or just a PowerPoint presentation with funky moving elements, I love art, history of art, I love creating a concept and going trough with it 'till it's a product.

But it takes so much time and energy and sheer THOUGHT... And it's so taxing on my body. I was sick several times through Autumn alone, and I suffer greatly from not being able to do my own thing. Not to mention war that rages on, taking both my mental and physical strength. I do not wish to pity myself, but it's a fact.

I love studying, but as I'm writing yet another analysis I'm thinking about how I would love to spend this time drawing fanart. I'm drawing backgrounds for a short story animation assignment and wish I was making an animation meme instead. I wish I wish. And when I finally have free time, I find myself not wanting to draw at all! I find that I'd rather read or go outside or cook something. And I feel great doing it, I don't feel guilty about it! But I wish I had that outlet still, because the best way for me to express my thoughts is through art. You'd think I have a lot of that in an ART academy, but really it gets down to technicalities and certain rules you have to follow to succeed not as an artist, but as a Professional, which Is Good, but ultimately now is all I can think about. Lost is the innocent joy of creating for the sake of creating, because now I can see every mistake clearly.

I can't say I have problems with time management. But this.. it burned me out, though it's hard to admit. Basically my whole journey through studying and war is documented here, in my Tumblr blog (it was created in May 2022, a few months after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine had started and a few months before I was accepted into the academy), so some of you may've involuntarily followed my life story, supporting me throughout!

Curious, isn't it? I love you all. I wish you strength and inspiration to do your own thing.

“Her hands were brushing a strand of his silky hair out of his face and in this exact moment, Julia’s whole existence got just one purpose: She would always protect this way too skinny, raven-haired boy with his adorably crooked nose and those beautiful - and yet so sad - obsidian eyes!”

This is a tiny snippet from one of my stories, which I’m only writing in order to cope with my own pain. I guess, I won’t ever be bold enough to share them publicly and my friend @vulnus-sanare has the duty to burn my laptop as soon as I’ll be gone one day (even though she threatened me to share my dirty work with the people in our beloved Snapedom).

But this little snippet fits perfectly with the amazing artwork, which my friend, the extremely gifted @snake-queen7 drew for me.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Severus in his younger years. All I’d wanted was to keep this boy safe from harm, making him feel loved and cared for…because this is exactly, what he deserved!

In my stories, Jules is Sevy’s friend, his lover, his protector, his guardian angel, his saviour, his powerful goddess of revenge. And to be honest, you don’t have to be a psychologist to understand, where this is coming from. Julia’s strength and her determination to make the world a better place for her beloved Severus are rooted in my own feelings of helplessness and despair.

My reality with ME/CFS couldn’t be more different from my stories. I feel trapped. Trapped in my own diseased and disabled body…trapped in my room….trapped in my darkness…trapped in a life, in which I don’t feel appreciated anymore.

I’m feeling more and more like a useless piece of furniture, which someone has hidden in a dark chamber. Still good enough to keep it, even though it’s not in plain sight…or at least not bad enough to waste it eventually.

I’ve always loved Severus for his resilience, his stubborn determination and strength. Since 21 years, he’s not only my comfort character and the love of my life…he’s my role model, my inspiration to keep on going…to keep on living.

So, I’m clinging to him and to all the things, I’m using in order to cope with my misery: I’m a loving mother of three wonderful children. I have a handful amazing friends with a deep understanding of my grief and despair, but who also appreciate my dry humour and my sarcasm. I’m still capable of pouring out my feelings onto paper, creating something beautiful in my stories. And I’m full of gratitude for the artists of Snapedom, who are helping me to bring my creative ideas to life with their art.

Do you have any tips for artists to get better? Also I hope you have a good day :)

I do have a few tips! (Things that I do personally)

Obviously to improve your art, you need to practice yadda yadda. But how could you make practicing it fun and also help?

Personally, I prefer practicing with full bodies to get an idea of the full anatomy so I don't accidentally sanction myself off from certain things like being able to draw hands, legs, ect. When drawing full bodies I always have action lines in mind!

I already do have experience in complicated poses so I don't normally use these lines anymore, but!

So! How would we achieve this? Well,

The main part is the main action line! This is the line that structures the whole pose in general! Normally, this one smooth line always helps in structuring the pose and always looks pleasing to follow the line!

And lo, there are other parts to it. Like for example;

The diverging line! Probably not what it's actually called, but that's what I call it! This always is used to give divergence and give life to the pose without it looking clunky! For me, anything facing the opposite direction from each other is such a good skill to work on, because I tend to find still, symmetric poses boring to work with.

One rule I personally work with is that poses should never be still and symmetric. Have fun! Draw them upside down! Sideways! Driving a Buggy! The main thing is to have fun with it, or else it'll start to feel like a chore. Art is a hobby, and a skill set. If it only starts to feel like a job, take a break, recharge, and try again!

The last thing I'd like to advise; work with your favourite character! For me, practicing very flexible and dynamic poses always feels unachievable with characters I don't favour as much. So, always a good idea to work with characters you adore and wouldn't mind drawing a hundred times over!

And again, have fun with it! Don't force yourself to improve when you're burnt out.

Can you draw a tutorial for full bodies, similar to what you did for faces and heads?

I probably will, but not right away bc I feel like I’m still figuring out anatomy too😅😅 I’m working on it a lot though (the sketches on this blog are mainly so I can keep practicing more dynamic poses & draw more than just a face) & I’m jotting down a lot of tips that are helping me as I learn💓💓 once I have enough I’ll definitely do a write-up & share it with you guys though!! (And I’ll definitely do one for hands too bc I love drawing hands!)

Here are my tips in the meantime, that I’m doing right now (if you’re interested);

1) LOTS of figure drawing, I like to do exercises where I give myself 10 min to draw something, then 5, then 1, then 30 seconds (4 drawings total, I normally just split a page into fourths). Drawing from gifs helps a lot too bc the people are moving and not static.

2) study the masters!! I have huge art books full of gorgeous quality prints, of baroque art, Renaissance, Impressionism…(you can probably find some at the library). This also helps SO MUCH with clothing draping/folds etc. these artists already did the work figuring out how to exaggerate things to make them look as beautiful as possible and we can learn from them😇

3) do studies of your favorite artists on social media!! It helps you figure out WHAT you like about their art, and how you can incorporate it into your own style. (I don’t do this but I should jajajaja). Some of my inspirations on Instagram are: withapencilinhand (super nsfw, look at your own risk😅), hamletmachine, Paul Heaston, Tony DiTerlizzi, etc etc (I can do a full write-up of my fav artists but the list is sooooooo long)

3) focus on drawing rough lines of movement, and build on top of those with shapes. But always focus on getting fluid and natural looking poses 💓 (or just draw noodle limbs like I do) (don’t do that). If I get really lost I force people to take pictures of me and then copy from that 😅 but I know a lot of professional artists & every single one uses references. So don’t be afraid to use them or feel like you’re “cheating” for not being able to just draw something straight from your brain. Bodies are hard to draw! Perspective is hard! Shadows/lighting are hard!

4) think of the bodies you’re drawing as solid forms, and think about line weight & shadows. It helps a lot!!

5) @traceyc-uk shared an amazing article in the comments that explains everything a million times better than I ever could about adding life and movement to poses so they don’t look static🙏😇 I’m linking it here since you can’t click on links in comments🥲

the way you draw people is so fluid and captures so much weight/form so simply. (especially in your sketches). like the way you draw everyone is so satisfying (that one steph sketch to the left of the tim/steph one you redrew is sooooo satisfying to me.

i keep trying to find a way to ask how you learned to draw that way (i know the answer is by drawing a lot)… but… how did you learn to draw people?

(ps what music do you like bc i am curious)

I used to carry around a sketckbook but I stopped because I pulled it out once in a blue moon. I was way too shy about it, like nobody careeess.

And thank you this is all very lovely to hear🙈🙈👼tumblr is like the only place I share my art cuz irl all my friends that would care to look are also artists and I'm scaredd, so hearing any praise is like angels singing.🫶 (Way more under the cut)

As for the way I learned to draw people- you are right, one of the main steps was by drawing alot, but other things defo count. One thing that majorly improved my anatomy and posing was studying proportions. Like 8 heads is the whole body and all its sectionings. I had one youtube tutorial that changed my life but I can't find it rn.

Another thing was drawing something very quickly. I take a picture or pause a video and draw that pose in around 60 seconds. That helped with establishing the key forms and lines of a body. And even when you're not drawing quickly, use a ref it helps so much. The human body has so many little details that are only visible from some angles that help elevate art.

And copying peoples style or drawings. Obvi dont trace but everybody knows that. My style is influnced by alot of people or things I see. I had Alot of influence from vapmberry(ig), underwaterlad(ig), nikola čižmešija, and I used to copy berthe morisot painting for class which eventually started reflecting in my pencil sketches.+ many more I forgot

Also comics really helped me evolve cuz everytime I read a comic its full of possible references and inspiration(good or bad depends). Seeing professional artists and how they portray a charecter or charecters interacting is very useful.

And draw big!!!!! Had the horrible but predictable art phase where all my sketches were so small, it's only going to set you back!!!!@@ im still fighting to draw a decent size.

Another thing- draw things that aren't human bodies. I'm lazy on this one but understanding form, perspective, shadows, and light on things like cubes, circles, or any object really can massively help. Also learning other things is nice. It's helpful in the long run.

Tldr: draw alot(🙄🙄 sry), study anatomy, draw quick, use refs, take inspo/copy, draw big (+draw things which ur not even interested in)

Also❕️❕️❕️❕️I am no pro this is not fact this is what I did. Somebody out there could prob explain this better and give better advice but oh well.

hi i'm still around and i am finally caught up on things in my life, so i have time to catch up with this blog and all the questions people have asked! starting with a very old one. or several.

I had multiple anonymous messages asking me how I would draw specific fantasy beings to be less human, including witches of various elements. Rather than trying to answer each of them individually, I thought it would be more effective and helpful to talk about the general idea of taking fantasy designs that are usually more human looking and changing them to be less human. My favorite option is the alternate evolution, which I have been working and working on with my own fantasy people species.

Elves in particular have been a struggle, because I chose to keep my elves as a type of primate. It's been rough trying to abandon the recognizably human parts of their design and further embrace the simian features, because my brain does still have an internal bias towards the standard "elves are humanoid but more beautiful" trope. But I think I'm finally hitting the right level of "monkey" in their design.

The other option shown here is one I just don't do much, and which could be even further exaggerated into the uncanny valley. Take your humanoid characters and just shove them into the uncanny valley, exaggerate their features, add new things that have nothing to do with speculative evolution and just help emphasize the unique traits you want them to embody. elemental witches who become more and more fused with their element. nature beings like dryads that really just look like they broke out of the center of a tree. etc.

I'll make a few more posts with full body examples for both options, but I hope these portrait examples help a little!

remember, you don't need me to give you every detail of how your character and creature designs should look, and you don't need anyone else to do that for you either. If you want a particular artist to give you a specific design exactly as they would draw it, you ask about commissions and you pay them to do that design for you. this blog exists so I can post my ideas and give advice and occasionally nitpick about common mainstream fantasy design tropes that bother me lol. I'll give you ideas, but you gotta do the work yourself. that's how you improve.

Sitting on the boardwalk of my small town country side home in the midst of a busy parades passing the streets and yet I am yanked back to reality when my pencil drops to my side. My eyes meet the page shading in beautiful designs of the way of the hottest guy I have every seen and I knew I had to have him as my own even thought he is a truly haunted soul. He is forty something years old hot, muscled and super sexy guy who I created with my own imagination and indeed it all starts flow from control as the ink flood through the pen. The ink piles from the pen flooding all the way on to the ink helping it to take up room shaking things up and my drawing comes to life flying off the page because I am a master of the world.He is looking absolutely amazing in a light leather jacket with a grey tee and super tight dark blue jeans and I am consumed by his inner beauty to do as I please with him. I stood up walking toward him standing up to him face to him because I take his waist in my hand and pull him in to me kissing him slowly and soon i find myself making out with intensity.

I back up to edge of bed as his heavy ass of a body comes barreling down on me as we fall back on to the bed and he kisses me very slowly.

His arms wrap around my waist as they are growing even tighter on my waist he yanks me up and places me to face him and plop

i am on his waist.

It is too funny for me watching him this jerk of an asshole is squirming under me while his eyes grew full and he continues make love to me.

He loses himself digging his hand under my shirt as he shifts it up and over my hand as my clothes toss in to the air and fall to the floor.
