Man. The Phillies are fucking KILLING the Dodgers right now… Need a good video to eat my pizza to… Wait just a second…
DOGS IN LOVE 3 CAME OUT??!!
For those that have no context, this sentence means nothing to you. And yet, it has all the meaning to me. Dogs in Love is a series, now officially a trilogy, on the JelloApocalypse channel. If you know him, cool! If you don’t know him, he’s a variety YouTuber best characterized by the art and opinions in his videos, although this doesn’t describe all of his videos. His best known series are probably his Welcome to, So This Is Basically, and Marathon Reviews series. He’ll at the same time also play various video games, drink a lot of lemonade, and play an eBay edition of The Price Is Right with his friends. He even has like a little show on his YouTube channel called Epithet Erased! I need to actually watch that sometime… Oh, and yeah, he does good voice acting work!
So, what is Dogs in Love? Basically, they are edited highlight videos with a lot of drawings of Jello and his friends taking the lore of Pokémon Colloseum and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness and throwing it out of the window during playthroughs for those games, with the group instead deciding to take the characters (Both the Pokémon and the humans) and playing with them like Barbie dolls and action figures.
The original Dogs in Love video focuses on Pokémon Coliseum, following the player trainer and his terrorist Pokémon, with the main focus around a edgy Umbreon who actually turns out to be a dumbo softboy and his partner Espeon who is smart and stressed out of his mind and needs more coffee. As you can guess, they are the dogs in love. In Dogs in Love 2 and 3, both of them focus on Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, with the logical tie in between the two games being that the Jolteon the player trainer has is the sweet and kind demonic child of the two dads of Umbreon and Espeon. Yeah. That’s just the tip of the iceberg.
I cannot fully explain the humor of it for myself. The voice acting as well as the improv comedy done by Jello and his friends makes the whole experience dumb, weird, and hilarious in a brilliant way. The dynamics and relationships of all of the characters are comedically sound, and yet, I feel genuine emotion for all of them. It knows exactly where to scratch my back when I have an itch. And, the thing is, the waits between each of these videos was about a year! Sure, the full streams are right there, but it’s hard because the videos are so good. (I rewatched both videos at my older sister’s wedding!) However, it’s worth the wait, and the videos show that the excellence needed time to cook. Dogs in Love has meant so much to me, but with the trilogy now completed, I look back at these three videos in marvel and with love.

a clear case of male characters' writing suffering badly because of heterosexism and misogyny is quark & julian & worf's interactions. they are very limited and out of those, many (if not most, but I'm not certain enough to make that statement) revolve around them pining for, competing for and being jealous of each other over dax. it's so fucking boring. dare I say... men's relationships with each other shouldn't revolve around women they're chasing after... it reduces the woman to an object of a man's affection and the men to drones dutifully carrying out their preordained purpose: to win themselves a mate.

the story has no real reason to take us to veritas prime but i hope it does solely because it would be funny if everyone, characters in-universe included, assumes ratio's clothing is indicative of the style of his homeworld, but when we get there it turns out everyone wears togas.
and ONLY togas.
ratio's skimpy black underlayer is comparatively covered up like a Victorian widow in mourning. the boob window is actually stuffy and conservative, everyone else is running around with at least one tit fully out at all times. they think he's the weird one for wearing pants. it would serve no narrative purpose whatsoever but it would entertain me greatly

I’m so glad Caldwell finally went on Dirty Laundry because he consistently makes the funniest choice possible and this was no different.

Low self esteem jokes are getting really old. Comedy is subjective but what can make a joke funny is it being unexpected. At this point it's more surprising to have a high self esteem so therefore it would be funnier to joke about that.

I read Hot Fuzz not as copaganda but as a rather overt condemnation of the vigilante cop trope and the very messed up damage people can inflict on an entire community when given unlimited authority.
The whole "break a bunch of laws for the greater good" thing is explicitly stabbed at, mocked and ultimately condemned as the central villains are revealed to have the pettiest motives for murdering random people.
The police chief was like Dirty Harry on steroids with a bloody cult on his side that needn't be held accountable for anything.
The main character Nicholas Angel grew up feeling lied to about people's supposed noble intentions, and lies were what kept true justice at bay in Sandford until an abused, neglected son decided to hold his dad accountable regardless of the consequences for himself.
Parental abuse, country bigotry, purposeful deceit and misdirection by authority figures, blind hatred and the impulses that followed.
These are not subtly hinted at, these are front and centre in Edgar Wright's Hot Fuzz.
To think it was a film from 2007, too.
Also David Bradley was funny as hell.

Finally, a story where the problems occur because the girl doesn’t appropriately deal with her feelings of sexual attraction, misinterpreting them and turning to aggression.

I truly seriously love the seinfeld finale the way it's set up as a traditional sitcom ending where certain characters experience a big change and say these big goodbyes as they go on to new exciting things and leave behind this chapter of their lives.... and then they just. all end up in fucking prison <3

I went to kiss my granddad once-I would have only been about 7 or 8, but I'd had clearly what my grandad viewed as a landmark birthday. I went to say goodbye, and I kissed my Nana Gwen and went to kiss my Grandad Ron, and Grandad Ron said, "You're a man now. You don't kiss other men anymore." (- meet the richardsons 2.08)

“Comedy is a serious business. The romanticised view of the court jester, uniquely licensed to speak truth to power and evade the executioner’s axe, doesn’t quite do justice to the risks involved in making genuinely subversive jokes.
With pressure mounting on comedians to reinforce the creed of the new puritanism, to propagandise as they play the clown, it will be interesting to see how the art form develops.
For all the moral panic over ‘hate speech’, the misinterpretations of acerbic humour as ‘bullying’, and the literal-mindedness of those who fail to appreciate the inherent theatricality of stand-up, there is every reason to feel optimistic.
The best comedians have rarely been inclined to work within the parameters of those in authority. Even if the comedy industry achieves its longed-for ‘woke world’, there will always be a few mischief-makers hankering for the next revolution.”
-- Andrew Doyle, “The New Puritans”
If you want to identify who wields the power and authority of the throne, simply figure out who wants to silence the jesters.

Thanks for the laughs, Tommy Smothers.
Comedian and musician Tommy Smothers, half of The Smothers Brothers, has died at 86.
New York Times story about his passing.
Most of you here have never heard of he and his brother, or their act. But they were hugely famous in the 60s. And, despite appearances, they were subversive.
They had a variety show on CBS, The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour (variety shows were big then). Tommy played the scattered, supposedly stupid brother, and Dick was the serious, stiff one. They sang folk songs (also very big then), often with Tommy messing up the lyrics or adding his own. Their shtick was Dick trying to rein in Tommy.
Doesn't sound like much, but this was during the Vietnam War. CBS warned the comedians not to comment or criticize the war. But they did. They were told not to have folk singer Pete Seeger on to sing his anti-war song "Waist Deep in the Big Muddy." But they did. So CBS canceled their show.

During the 60th Emmy Awards Tommy talked about being censored, which is very topical right now.

A bit about how subversive they were.

They were part of my childhood and growing up. Their comedy made me think.
Hail and farewell, Tommy Smothers.

Instead of My Little Pony, which is a masterpiece well deserving of its fame and popularity among young and old, how about the subversive interest of your hyper-masculine, emo, or just generally not concerned with “frivolous” or “girly” things character is some absolute dogtrash show that nobody likes. Like the Rainbow High webseries.
