It is such quality mobiumshipping, which the fandom is severely lacking in. It has humor, it has tenderness, it has spiciness. The dynamics between the three boys are top-notch. AND, it is being expanded into a small series. It's amazing!

The dynamic between the three of them is just spot on, and Yugi for all his shyness and nerves never looses the backbone that makes him the linchpin between the three of them. And the "spectating" party (whether that be Yugi or Yami), is just as active an important as the one in the drivers seat. So sweet and tender (and sexy!) all around!

I have to preface that this fic isn't for the faint of heart. It deals with dark subjects (sexual assault being quite major) and is often a fic that hits you as much as it gives you hope. Yami essentially got trapped in a contract with the undead Pharoah Atem, who was promised a wife for his sacrifice in saving Egypt. Cue Yami being the wife and uh, not great things happening to him.

What I love about this though was that this fic horrified me as much as it fascinated me. Atem's a full asshole and isn't above manipulating his new wife, but Yami's also depicted as a strong induvidual who just has the shittiest luck imaginable. You get moments of hope and despair that make you really root for Yami, but also moments where you really, really want to punch Atem in the face. Essentially, if you can stomach the bad parts, then you're at least in for a wild ride.

I am always accepting recs!! Thank you for this, monarchshipping always needs more representation!

Anon says: A fav fic hands down. Tightly plotted, planned and paced. Ch. 7 had me rereading from the start and reassessing my perceptions so far, which was the point I couldn't put it down. This is also one of those fics where the relationship is a vessel for examining Yugi, Atem, and the themes. How Yugi thinks/acts in relation to the girl at the parlor and Atem is fascinating. It also tackles a personal fav trope of 'strong/distant character is vulnerable' in great depth. Atem is cracked like an oyster in this. And I love how you get the sense of two people fumbling to know and understand more of each other. There are sweet moments, & there’s points of awkwardness, friction, and feeling like one's somehow said the wrong thing but it's too late to revisit it. But all the while they keep trying.

It’s adorable, and lovely, and cute and funny. The characters feel so well written and fleshed out. And you can clearly see how Yami’s experiences in the present have shaped him and matured him, making him stand apart from past Atem. Poor flustered Yugi caught between a rock and two sets of teeth.

However, this menace lurking in the dark will affect the lives of his friends and enemies as it makes its presence known. And it will reach the depths of the Afterlife where Atem will have to help his partner any way he can before it is too late.

This is the exact fic I wanted/needed back when I first started reading Yugioh fanfictions after the finale aired. It has the most emotional depth of any fic I have ever read. It conveys the pain of grief and loss so profoundly that it moved me with every chapter yet I wanted more. It's the exact opposite of fluff but the romantic moments are so beautiful and well earned after all of the turmoil of the earlier chapters. The ending had me in tears.

It's realistic, that's the other thing. Not only is it so deeply moving in a painful way, but it's realistic. Grief and learning to live with your own demons are all overwhelming and unpredictable. It just hurts to see our favorite characters going through all of that hurt. Everyone is in character and it genuinely feels like a sequel to the canon after DSOD.

I've gone on about this fic to many people including the author and I will continue to sing this fic's praises for a long time! It's angst, yes, but it's beautiful in the journey.

admin's notes: i have a type okay, and it's haunted-cabin-in-the-woods horror/mystery. a really clever intertwining of Yugi's mysterious traumatic past, and the suspense of his current-day interactions with the stranger at the camp that kept me guessing until the end.

Basically this story checks off a lot of my favorite things. Horror, romance, spookiness, great atmosphere and setting. Excellent writing. I was enthralled the entire read.

And to pay back the owner of the shop for the damages he offers to put it back together. The problem is, no one has ever put it together aside from the owner, Atem, and he had to use magic to do it.

The story is cute, and heartwarming. As Yugi sees something in Atem that others do not. He’s not afraid of the scary wizard, and actually starts to get feels.

This is an old but wonderful fic. And it’s never left me. When I got back into the fandom I reread it and still adored it.

In present day the new owner of the box ends up being Yugi Mutou. And he’s not at all prepared for the gorgeous man who spills from the box once he opens it. Yugi doesn’t want a pleasure slave though, but he will accept a friend and he does need coaching about how to woo someone he has a crush on.

This story is funny, and a rom-com. Magic and romance, and mayhem, and misunderstandings. A lovely read.

Anon says: why i love this: it's a great post-canon fic with the fan-favorite 'atem comes back' trope, but with a twist. namely in that he barely remembers what happened in DM, and because of that acts as how he was in ancient egypt; a proud, prideful pharoah... who's a bit of an stubborn brat. and the author characterizes them so well! yugi is the perfect blend between canon and the angst that comes from losing your bestfriend-kinda-wished-you-were-my-boyfriend-ngl , and atem's reactions to the modern world are interesting to see on their own. it's a shame it never got finished, but i think there's enough substance to make the fic enjoyable to read.
