Opponent: It's Rob Van Dam!
Tumblr media
(For non-wrestling fans, he is the one taking the move here and was completely fine after this. Also the amount of height he gets on that rebound is an incredible feat of athleticism considering how little spring wrestling mats have and how little assist he is getting from his opponent. The momentum there is basically all him.)
Submarine Sailor: It's Michael Buble????? and apparently he got fired for stealing a hot dog from craft services?????
Don't like this propaganda? Reblog it with your own or send some in my askbox
To jog your memory, here are the episodes they're from:
Fight Club: Mulder and Scully cross paths with a pair of doppelgangers whose close proximity yields unlimited mayhem. Splitting up in two, the agents try to find out "why" and "what" they are doing.
Piper Maru: When a French salvage ship sends a diving crew to recover a mysterious wreckage from World War II, the crew falls prey to a bizarre illness and Agents Mulder and Scully join the investigation. The investigation leads to the discovery of a familiar face, and to Skinner's life being threatened.

@celestiialnotes asked: " Your sail looks good from what I can tell. Nothing else needs to be replaced. Typical wear and tear but nothin' needing immediate attention. " A brief pause as he gently knocks on the metal frame of the Polar Tang. " Seen plenty of different ships but this has gotta be a first for me. Ain't half bad. Looks like it's well taken care of. " - Paulie
Tumblr media
The Polar Tang was a unique ship, and Ikkaku was generally considered the best person qualified to fix her after any given attack, accident, or just due to general wear and tear. It was a job the engineer was proud to do, giving her best day in and day out, making sure her beautiful submarine was getting the best care possible.
Yet despite her skills and natural inclination towards all things mechanical, Ikkaku also knew there was always something new to learn. And while traditional shipwrights would likely have nothing useful to add, or even have even the slightest understanding of such a magnificent, highly advanced submarine, the ones on Water 7 were considered the best in the world. If there were anyone who could teach her something, it would be them.
Hell, sometimes just getting an outsider's perspective was useful, so when the Hearts had stopped at the famous Captial of Water, she'd insisted on getting the Tang looked at, just to ensure there was nothing she could improve on or had missed.
The blonde shipwright - Paulie, if she had heard right - had certainly taken his job seriously, which Ikkaku appreciated. And she appreciated the comment about her submarine being well taken care of just as much. "Thanks," she said, beaming with pride. "She's the most beautiful and unique ship I've ever seen. From the moment I first laid eyes on her, I knew she was the best damn vessel in the four Blues. And I can promise she's looked after. I'm the head engineer, so I do my damnedest to keep her in tip-top shape."
Resting a hand on the yellow hull, she hummed in contentment. "I'd be surprised if you'd seen anything like her, but I guess if anyone would have, it'd be you folks. Bet you've seen all kinds of beauties sail in, eh?" she asked, giving the man a playful wink.

Homemade WW2 pirate flag made from scraps found aboard the submarine ā€œUnbrokenā€ by petty officer Frederick C. Sharpe, DCM (Distinguished Service Cross).
The bars on the left are merchant ships attacked, and those in red are the ones that sunk. On the other side are crossed cannons, and stars that represent merchant ships sunk with the deck guns. The crossed daggers represent the secret cloak-and-dagger missions undertaken by the ā€œUnbrokenā€.

Hello it is me, MyEpicPseudonym on ao3!
Thanks for running the messageboard, mod Tizona!! And good job everyone on their fics, I couldn't read them all but the ones I read were great!
When I first sent that ask about writing Hermitcraft x Arthurian legend, I may have lied about not having a lot of knowledge about King Arthur stories and I was evilly rubbing my hands together when you suggested listening to High Noon over Camelot (you're the one that introduced me to the Mechanisms in the first place last year hehe)
I actually only said something about Hermitcraft x Arthurian legend because I knew you'd like it, then I went "Oh that's actually a good idea, let's do it" and the rest is history
- Sailor
and the asks I sent about my fic were about the same one I talked about as Sailor (How Gem the Slayer became a Knight of Camelot), the fic I posted as this anon (The wooden box found in the garage) was written in less than a day just because I wanted a fic posted as compass anon
šŸ§
And the names Sailor and šŸ§ have nothing to do with the fics I wrote because I had to come up with something to sign my asks before I had any idea what my fics were going to be about - Sailor is a nod to my tumblr url and šŸ§ just looks nice :)
you know? you being you makes so much sense now that i think back on itā€¦ i clocked the weird hours of posting (dutch) but didnā€™t connect the dotsā€¦. kudos to you for the fact that both compass and sailor didnā€™t ring any familiarity bells though!

On 26th January 1981 the empty shell of the 'Bass Conqueror' off the shore of Ireland.
ā€œSome people might think I am a crackpot, but I am sure I will survive to answer them when I return"
The words of 27-year-old Kenneth Kerr, a former petty officer on the British nuclear submarine HMS Conqueror, who on May 21st, 1980, left Newfoundland in Canada on his second attempt to row 2100 miles across the Atlantic in the 13ft glass-fibre dinghy Bass Conqueror.
Having held a life-long ambition to set the record for the smallest boat ever to have been rowed across the Atlantic single-handedly, Kennethā€™ tragically didn't make it home.. Bass Conqueror, an Orkney Spinner flat-bottomed rowing boat, was specially fitted out for his first attempt in 1979 by a boat builder at Kennethā€™s home town of Port Seaton in East Lothian, and named after a product brewed by Tennent Caledonian Breweries - joint sponsors of the venture .But Kennethā€™s initial attempt was to end disastrously. Capsized twice by giant waves after 58 days at sea, he desperately fought to upright the vessel both times and was incredibly fortunate to find both his tiny inflatable life-raft and transmitter floating close by. But in stormy seas 700-miles off the Canadian coast, the boat soon began to fill with water, and after climbing into the 4ft diameter raft, Kenneth watched as Bass Conqueror was swallowed up by yet another enormous wave.
With no food or water, struggling with the bitter cold and at the mercy of the high seas, he fumbled with the transmitter to send out a distress signal, which was picked up by a British Airways Concorde en route to New York. Canadian coastguards were alerted, spotter planes were dispatched and an Argus aircraft was soon able to pass on his position to a German container ship - Stuttgart Express - which detoured 45 miles to come to his rescue.
His barnacle-covered vessel was found washed-up on the Irish coast five months later. However, inspired by John Ridgway and Chay Blyth, who had successfully crossed the Atlantic in 1966, Kenneth was not ready to give up on his dream.
Following repairs at the Orkney Co. Boat Yard at Arundel, Sussex, Bass Conqueror was ready for another attempt, and on May 21st, 1980, he set off yet again from Newfoundland. On August 13th, 500 miles off the coast of Ireland, Kenneth was spotted by the crew of a passing cargo ship, who gave him fresh food and water, and in the weeks ahead made several radio transmissions, the last of which came after 156 days at sea on October 25th when a faint message of ā€˜bearing 123 degreesā€™ was picked up by expedition ship Eye of the Wind.
Sadly, Kenneth was never to be seen or heard from again. Bass Conqueror was recovered by a Norwegian rescue team near Stavanger on this day in 1981.
Bass Conqueror is now in row in the Scottish Maritime Museum, Linthouse Building at Irvine, as seen in the pics, and if you ever visit look out for 17 notches on the strengthening board on the floor of the boat. During both attempts at the crossing, Kenneth notched up every week he completed - the 8 notches from his first attempt can also be seen. Seventeen weeks gives 119 days, but the message picked up by the crew of Eye of the Wind is evidence that he was still alive after 156 days. We do not know what happened in those missing five weeks, and it will always remain a mystery.
