It was late in the afternoon. Your husband Kyojuro and his brother Senjuro had been training outside in the garden in the snow in sub-zero temperatures and entered the warm interior of the property completely exhausted. Meanwhile, you were standing in the kitchen. You wanted to build your family a house out of gingerbread. It used to be a tradition in your family to make a gingerbread house in December. You didn't want to break with tradition and set to work. After a good few hours, the individual parts such as walls, roofs and doors lay before you. You even managed to add a chimney. Now you just had to put everything together and decorate the little house.

You mix powdered sugar with some lemon juice to make an edible glue that will hold everything together in the end. At that moment, your husband joins you in the kitchen. He put his arms around you from behind and looked over your shoulder. "What are you doing, sweetheart?" he asked you, pressing a kiss to your temples. You started to smile slightly. And when he has a dream it cuts off right after Senjuro blames himself again. So that buildup, and how Kyojuro just goes quiet for a full fifteen seconds because he doesn’t want to lie to him and hurt him more hurts. He’s usually quick to respond.

Yees. He worries about Senjuro so much, so being emotionally supportive to him is a huge huge deal for Kyojuro. Like that's something he strives really hard to be for Senjuro. I love that since Mitsuri is someone who knows Senjuro Kyojuro feels comfortable enough to tell her he is worried about him. And its specifically the fact that Senjuro blames himself that makes Kyojuro worried. Like, for Kyojuro this is a serious issue and and with how Shinjuro was constantly tearing down their confidence with his comments it makes sense that Kyojuro views it with such grave concern because its a very big deal and its very hurtful. And I appreciate that its made so beautifully clear that whether Senjuro is good at mastering swordsmanship or not doesn't matter to Kyojuro. Its interesting how Kyojuro in particular seems to dream about the last thing he was thinking about/interacting about. Like, it's almost as if because Kyojuro doesn't fully face his concerns his subconscious lays them out for him and brings them back to his attention. And I appreciate it because then Kyojuro is like "okay this thing can't wait anymore it has to be addressed" and he addresses it, but is still not like super quick to address it either and isn't always immediately addressing the problems he sees happening in their family.

I have a lot of thoughts about Kyojuro going quiet for a full 15 seconds. I don't feel it was an issue of him having to lie to Senjuro, I don't believe he would ever lie to Senjuro. But I'm wondering if this was the first time that Senjuro just outright said "I'm not strong enough to join the Corp, am I?" Whereas before Senjuro probably kept the question to "Am I stronger?/Am I getting stronger?" Which Kyojuro could answer without lying, and so they both kind of avoided the question until this moment. I don't doubt that Kyojuro knew what Senjuro had been implying all those times, but perhaps it felt separate enough for both of them that for the time being Senjuro was okay with that response. And maybe he was trying to get Kyojuro to elaborate on his readiness for the Corp without prodding but since Kyojuro never did Senjuro resorts to finally just outright asking. This moment which Kyojuro had just been dreaming about so I feel that hit Kyojuro extra hard.

I also feel he might have been surprised by Senjuro bringing it up because while he may have been planning to talk to Senjuro about it, it probably wasn't as soon as when Senjuro brought it up. So I feel he was caught a little off guard by it and still not prepared enough on how he wanted to respond. There's a lot of feelings and thoughts tied to Final Selection for Kyojuro and it probably took him a moment to detach and refocus on Senjuro. It does hurt a lot to recognize Kyojuro's hurting while trying to not hurt Senjuro. And he was actually successful in doing that, so I feel a little bit comforted by that knowledge that he provided Senjuro the comfort and support he needed in that moment, even though it was painful to have to face. And I do believe that the act of comforting someone can comfort yourself and provide you peace as well and I definitely feel that applies to Kyojuro when he's having these moments with Senjuro.

As such I have had nothing to say and nothing to post about. DAMN YOU DEPRESSED BRAIN! I finally created a tumblr so I could share my thoughts and scream at others about my drama addiction and now you make me hit a drama slump. How dare you....

ANYWAY, I haven’t been able to keep up with anything as of late and my progress with watching dramas is slow as fuck. I’m still trying to finish Vigilantes in masks that I started like 3 months ago or somethin. 

But, since I can’t focus on anything I started in the last 3 months I’ve managed to side track into Jdramas. 

One because they tend to be much smaller series. 8 episodes or so. This is much less overwhelming than like the 40/60 something I’m used to. 

Two because it’s something new. Lots of Kdramas and Cdramas have the same vibe. Which isn’t a bad thing but it’s not catching the attention of depressed katacomb brain that craves new things because if we can’t find something new then automatically I’m somehow wasting my life and have no value or some shiz... heeeee...

So some recommendations if anyone wants to watch some Jdramas. (Assuming you read this far. If you did congrats. I love you for it.)

Recently I’ve watched, by way of recommendation or just seeing it in the recents of the drama7seas:

- Soroban Samurai

The story of a samurai who doubles as an accountant. Yes, an accountant. He’s pretty darn cool and he’s also something of a detective too. I’m pretty sure his role in life is basically a jack of all trades. The production leaves something to be desired in quality but it’s a wonderful story and I stayed for the characters. There’s 9 episodes and each story line is independent of each other told over the span of 3 episodes. So, 9 episodes = 3 storylines that have almost nothing to do with each other aside from the main character and a few side characters. If you want an over reaching storyline then this does not have one. But, I really enjoyed it cause it was simple and I have a thing for detectives. Not much for whump either. But It’s still a fun drama for the side lines.

- Shikaku Tantei Higurashi Tabito

More detectivish MCs. NOW this is a drama everyone should watch!! It has a movie (Which should be watched first but really only gives some character introductions, it’s not hugelly important to story line so you could skip it if you wished.) and a 9 episode series. The series is where it’s at tho! SOoo much whump and amazing found family and angst. I love the premise of this series. It was absolutely fascinating. I’ve always loved series that explore the different ways people with unique disabilities see the regular world or that the world appears differently to everyone in general. The MC was amazing. I loved him and his intensity but also goofy and traumatised self. The actor did any amazing job with this character. From the way he swayed during conversations while trying to keep peoples lips in view so he could read them since he’s deaf. It’s like they never forgot that he only had the sense of sight, literally nothing else. From the way he walked to the things he ate. it was all very well done. 10/10 would recommend.

And lastly, Meiji Kaika: Shinjuro Tanteicho

Oh look, another detective MC. Is anyone surprised? Not me. 

Though dunno if I recommend this one yet since I’ve only seen the first ep but I’ve been waiting for all 8 eps to be subbed and now they are. So, Imma binge this. Drama7seas says 2020 but I’m thinking not from the production. It looks hella old but I don’t pretend to know how film develops in Japan or if this is specific style or whatnot but I really like the rustic vibe to it. MC looks super cooky too and I like it.

Opening shot, is pretty and certainly a painting of somesort.

Some may interpret his dream as a healthy acceptance of the decline of his father and his role as basically both parents to Senjuro (helping him practice training, embracing him as he weeps, softening the blow of his father’s words to him) while others may see it as him unhealthily neglecting his own emotions to comfort his brother because “Senjuro has been through even worse”, as he said. He repeats the “I’m fine” smile in his oneshot, so it’s clearly a pattern. So yeah, it’s fascinating. (2/2)

I don't view it as a healthy acceptance at all, because if it was healthy acceptance then Kyojuro would have made changes after those realizations but he didn't (you can argue he couldn't because he died but that's also assuming he was completely unaware of all this before Mugen Train which I just refuse to believe). He didn't accept the role of being Senjuro's surrogate parents, it wasn't offered to him it was forced onto him by Shinjuro's abandonment and Kyojuro was too kind and empathetic to do the same thing to his little brother and he just flat out didn't want to. It is unhealthy, and it's not even just with Senjuro, he does it with Tanjiro and Mitsuri too, I mean my hell he is comforting Tanjiro as he's bleeding out, not saying anything about himself at all, he only talked about his family and Tanjiro and the squad. He did unhealthily neglect his own emotions to comfort Senjuro, "There's no use dwelling on this now. Senjuro has been through even worse." And in the sub he flat out says "It's pointless to think about such things, so stop." Right after he was reflecting on the painful thoughts of how Shinjuro changed. I read it as "I can't afford to be thinking about this because Senjuro has been through even worse." Senjuro comes first. Yep, it is definitely a pattern, and I'm glad they showed that so we could see it was a pattern, not just a one-time thing. I'm sure Senjuro is not the first person to sense something was wrong, I bet all of the Pillars have received that "I'm fine" smile from him.
