#497 PV Sindhu OUTCLASSES former world number 1 Ratchanok Intanon to storm to finals of Hong Kong open; Smith innings of 141* EASILY One of the best of 2017; Pujara-Vijay squeeze all the competitive juice of Lankan bowling in city of Oranges and more...:-)

On Day 2, Vijay and Pujara started cautiously. Runs came in singles and twos than boundaries. Lakmal and especially Gamage were bowling good line and length. Vijay upped the ante before lunch period. India reached lunch at 97-1. Vijay completed his fifty just before the break. They were hardly troubled. In 2nd session, it was time to toy Lankan bowling. Both played aggressive cricket. Herath and Perera leaked lots of runs. Chandimal knew match was beyond him. He tried to control run rate as he couldnt get wickets. Ploy didnt work as line of all bowlers was all over the place. India recahed tea at 185-1. vijay completed his 10th test century. To do this in comeback match after sitting out due to wrist injury for such a long time tells a lot about the ability and character of the TN star. Vijay has agood record in SA and Kohli has now 3 in form openers for SA. I guess he would start with Dhawan and Vijay. Rahul has done nothing wrong as he has scored 9 fifties in last 12 innings. Vijay was dismissed just after tea. Some relief for Lanka. But that didnt last long as Kohli started creaming boundaries right from the word go. He ensured team would reach 300 by end of day. Pujara completed his 14th test century.By end of day India were at dominating position at 312-2. Pujara-Vijay partnership was a treat to watch. This was their 3rd 200 runs partnership . They had scored earluer 2 against ENgland and Australia. In terms of partnership, they have best avergae of 70+ ahead of Kohli-Rahane and Sachn-Ganguly. That is some achievement. By end of day, Kohli completed another fifty too. More milestones would be acheievd tomorrow by Indian stars with the way Lankan bowlers have responded.
Smith and Shaun Marsh started slowly on Day 3. That was their plan on Day 2 as well. They wanted to take time to settle down. Shaun Marsh completed his fifty. England made a brief comeback post that. Marsh played a poor stroke of a losse delivery of Broad. Anderson caught an easy catch at mid off. Paine and Starc fell to new ball spell of Broad and ANderson. Australia from 175-4 were reduced to 209-7. Cummins joined Smith and took Australia till lunch. Australia were 213-7 at lunch. Smith had just scored 17 runs in first session. Another 50-60 runs from captain was needed to take Australia to safety. Thats exactly what happened post lunch. Cummins played some delightful strokes. He was playing like top order batsman. Smith too accelerated along with him. He brought up his 21st century in style. These 2 had 66 run vital stand before Woakes dismissed Cummins. 42 by Cummins would be vital from Suatralia's point of view. If not, England could have had a lead of 50+. Smith then batted wellw ith Hazelwood and Lyon to take Australia into lead. They eventually got elad of 26 runs. SMith was unbeaten at 141. He had played all but 3.4 overs of this innings. In total, he played for 126 odd overs. That is immense focus and concentration by Australian captain. Brisbane crowd gave him a well deserved standing ovation. Hazelwood then dismissed Cook and Vince in quick sucession before England could even get into the lead. Root was hit on the head by Starc. But he and Stoneman took England to 33-2 when day 3 play ended. Match is delicately poised. Tomorrow morning's session could be vital to decide who would come on trumps. Root need to play like how Smith did in his own style. This could be biggest test for Root.
In Hong Kong Open, PV Sindhu outclassed former world number one Ratchanok Intanon 21-17 21-17 to storm into finals. Though it was straight set, it was closely fought contest. Sindhu started off with a 6-2 lead in first set which eventually became 11-7. Intanon then made brief comeback before Sindhu won it 21-17. In second set, from 6-6, Sindhu won 5 points. Though Inanton closed gap to 12-14,  Sindhu upped the ante again to win it 21-17. She would face Tzu Ying Tai in finals, a rematch of last eyars finals where Sindhu lost. Time for some sweet revenge !!.
