The Locked Tomb/Steven Universe Crossover

This crossover was inspired months ago by the random thought "Hey, Pearl would definitely want to be Rose's cavalier" and hasn't left me alone since. So here you go, niche audience of one! (It's me. I am the audience)

First of all, yes, Pearl has to be Rose's cavalier. Not only does it neatly align with Pearl's knightly devotion and the institutional power imbalance they're both trying to ignore, Pearl absolutely is the kind of person who would take "my not-wife refuses to kill me and eat my soul in order to attain immortality" as a terrible rejection.

She's so insane about Rose, she'd fit right in in this universe (pun not intended). Also, the cavalier-necromancer romance taboo works excellently for Pearlrose. For one, of course, the forbidden romance. Cav!Pearl confessing to necro!Rose that she's been dreaming about running away from the Houses together to live in domestic bliss on a nice moon somewhere has the exact same vibes as su!Pearl's confession in Now We're Only Falling Apart. But more importantly, cav!Pearl giving Rose's suitors a "You may have caught her eye, but I am her cavalier; she swore an oath to me; our fates are entwined till death do us part" speech only to go to her rooms and wallow in how the very position that ensures she'll be by Rose's side forever is what will forever keep her from pursuing her true feelings is too good.

Meanwhile Rose is in the next room going "Oh woe is me, for I am a cruel, selfish woman, to keep the love of my life from the glory she deserves! Alas, I can't bear to let her go, even though I know in my heart that her care for me is only the rightful, proper care of a cavalier for her necromancer! The least I owe her is not to take advantage of our pure, sacred bond, so I shall go and drown my sorrows in another fleeting affair!"

Writer's choice whether they miraculously manage to communicate before Rose gets herself killed in one way or another, but ironically the dystopian 50% character death rate tlt verse is much more likely to give them a second chance than pastel redemption arcs su, because Steven Universe is a story about healing from trauma with the power of a supportive network of loved ones while The Locked Tomb endorses attacking the cold unfeeling universe with teeth and fingernails until it returns your girlfriend, and both of them are so valid for this.

In this case however it means, that instead of slowly healing, Pearl absolutely refuses to accept Rose's death to a Harrow and Camilla extent. Does she threaten to stab whoever takes Jod's role in this AU? Does she try to break into the Locked Tomb because to hell with the Houses, she's getting her wife back? Both? In any case, tlt rules demand that she succeeds.

Anyway, I put them in the Seventh House because roses.

As for the supporting cast:

Ruby and Sapphire are the Fifth House wholesome married couple who make Pearl and Rose stare in longing for what they cannot have.

Garnet is Paul. Obviously. Cue another, different kind of yearning for what could have been from Pearl. Poor Garnet has just come into existence. She doesn't deserve having to be everyone's emotional support already.

I struggled with figuring out a role for Amethyst for a while until it hit me: Wasn't it fun when Amethyst experienced self hatred over how the life was drained out of her planet to make her? Try being the result of two hundred child murders! Don't the inadequacy issues gain a delightful new dimension when your entire generation has been killed off in anticipation of your abilities? Guys, I think Amethyst is Harrow Nova.

I have no idea what plot has to happen for Rose to end up with Jod's baby, but that is the only role for Steven I will tolerate. And Connie is his cavalier. Obviously.

Peridot is sciency, Lapis is the quiet OP lady, and they're in a QPR. There was no way I wasn't going to make them the Sixth. HOWEVER. Due to how extremely OP Lapis is with an element manipulating power specifically. I decided that she's the necromancer and Peridot is her incredibly academically talented BFF who they're pretending is the necromancer so she can be along for the ride. This would be plot relevant if this crossover had an actual plot instead of self indulgent vibes only.

Jasper gets Judith's role. Completely loyal to the ethically dubious regime, absolutely convinced that she's the only one who is doing the right thing and everyone else is just not strong enough, ends up corrupted possessed by a Resurrection Beast.

Bismuth is a Blood of Eden commander. She would like to fist fight every single Uppercrust zombie, however, just like su!Bismuth, she is easily won over when a former Homeworld gem House zombie shows up on her planet and announces her intent to fight the Diamonds Jod and his Lyctors and/or bust into the Locked Tomb.

Año nuevo, listado de nuevos escritores que entran en dominio público con el cambio de año. Dado que la protección de derechos de autor más habitual tras el fallecimiento del escritor es, a nivel global, que se proteja tras la muerte 70 años más tras el fallecimiento, en 2019 entran – en general – en dominio público aquellos escritores que murieron en 1948.

Los nombres más populares del listado de fallecidos en 1948 cuyas obras entran en 2019 en dominio público podrían ser Zelda Fitzgerald o Vicente Huidobro, aunque la recopilación abarca más nombres y de muchas más literaturas. No es sin embargo un año en el que se produzca la entrada en dominio público – en general – de autores muy notables.

Más populares son algunos de los nombres que entran en dominio público en aquellos países que protegen los derechos de autor 50 años tras la muerte y donde entran en dominio público los fallecidos en 1968. Es el caso de Uruguay, Bolivia, Cuba, El Salvador, México (para los fallecidos antes de 1944) o Nueva Zelanda, entre otros países. En esa lista están escritores como Enid Blyton, Marcel Duchamp, John Steinbeck o Upton Sinclair.

En Estados Unidos (donde lo que entra o no en dominio público es material para un culebrón) entran en dominio público todos los trabajos publicados en 1923. Los años anteriores ya eran parte del dominio público desde hace años, aunque hacía 20 años que no se producía la entrada de ningún nuevo trabajo en dominio público en EEUU por expiración de derechos, por culpa de una extensión de la protección tras una campaña de lobby de los gigantes del entretenimiento.

Así, entran en dominio público en EEUU, novelas de Agatha Christie o Virginia Woolf (Woolf ya es de dominio público en muchos países, dado que murió a principios de los 40) y otros pesos pesados literarios, como poemas de Robert Frost. También pasan a dominio público curiosidades, como el libro de recetas escrito por Jessie Conrad, la esposa del escritor Joseph Conrad, A Handbook of Cookery for a Small House. En otros terrenos entran en dominio público películas de Cecil B. DeMille o Charlie Chaplin.

Los escritores que lo hacen en España

En España, la ley de protección de la propiedad intelectual cambió en las últimas décadas. El cambio legal se produjo en 1987, haciendo que la protección tras la muerte se quedase equiparada a la normativa común en Europa. La propiedad intelectual está protegida así hasta 70 años después de su muerte. Sin embargo, este dato solo se aplica a partir de la entrada en vigor de esa nueva ley.

Los escritores fallecidos antes de esa fecha están protegidos por la ley de propiedad intelectual de 1879, lo que hace que cuenten con un plazo de protección de las obras de 80 años a partir de la muerte del autor. Por ello, en España, solo entran en dominio público aquellos autores (sean de donde sean) que hayan muerto en 1938 (los muertos en años anteriores ya están en dominio público).

Viendo la lista de escritores fallecidos en 1938 que se encuentra en la Wikipedia se puede descubrir que en 1938 murieron Gabriele D’Annunzio, Thomas Wolfe o Karel Čapek. No hay – en general – nombres de impacto como los que aparecen en otros listados más globales en términos de libros que son best-sellers.

Del listado de escritores que entran en dominio público también hay un número de escritores españoles. Este año entran en ese subdominio del registro 175 escritores, de los que se pueden destacar a varios nombres. Como cada año, la Biblioteca Nacional de España ha hecho el censo de autores que entran en dominio público y ha destacado los nombres de aquellos más reseñables. Copiamos ese listado de la BNE con los comentarios que aportan desde la Biblioteca en la nota de prensa de presentación del censo.

Historija se ne razvija linearno. Ona ide cik-cak, regresira, spotiče se, dok ne dosegne tačku spoznajne promjene.

U Egiptu je karizmatična grmljavina Gamala Abdel Nassera vremenom dovela do diktature Abdel Fattaha el-Sissija. U Indiji je legendarna i gotovo svetačka ličnost Mahatme Gandhija koji je vodio antikolonijalnu borbu vremenom rezultirala ubiačkim hinduističko-supremacističkim fašizmom Narendre Modija. U Iranu je antikolonijalna borba predvođena Mohammadom Mosaddeghom vremenom porodila reakcionarnu Islamsku Republiku kojom vlada vod militantnih mula. U Siriji je obećavajuća politička filozofija Michela Aflaqa vremenom rezultirala ubilačkim režimom Bashara al-Assada.

Mogli bismo nastaviti ovako nabrajati, ali poenta je ovdje SAD, gdje je revolucionarna karizma Malcolma X porodila reakcionarni liberalizam Baracka Obame.

Američki liberali kojima je muka od Trumpa na predsjedničkoj poziciji slave Obamin govor na nacionalnoj konvenciji Demokratske stranke u avgustu, u kojem je sa suzama podržao svog bivšeg potpresjednika Joe Bidena, kao definirajući trenutak za njihov plan da poraze Trumpa i vrate „Americi dostojanstvo“.

Ali američko dostojanstvo ne može biti „vraćeno“ biranjem istrošenog liberalnog činovnika kakav je Biden. Američko dostojanstvo, danas više nego ikad, je u principijelnom i dostojanstvenom ustanku Životi crnaca su važni. Obama i njegova podrška Bidenu nisu ništa drugo do prepreke za daleko superiorniju politiku oslobođenja koja se odvija na ulicama i u kritičkoj svijesti najboljih Amerikanaca.

Obama je ćorsokak

Trump je najgore od Amerike, ali nije jedini. Jedan od dva birača je glasao za njega 2016, i kakvi god bili rezultati izbora 2020, on i dalje ima lojalnost miliona Amerikanaca koji dijele njegov nepokajnički rasizam i fanatizam. Trump predstavlja rasistički fašizam koji je duboko ukorijenjen u američko društvo i historiju.

Protiv ukorijenjenog rasizma ustao je pokret Životi crnaca su važni – etički principijelan, moralno ispravan i sa snažnom moći historije na svojoj strani. Ali borba ovog pokreta nije samo protiv Trumpa, već i protiv lažne ličnosti Obame i onoga što on predstavlja.

„Mladi crnci su eksplodirali pobunom zbog grotesknog ubistva Georgea Floyda“, piše Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor u nedavnom mišljenju za New York Times, „sada svjedočimo najširem protestnom pokretu u američkoj historiji. A ipak je odgovor izabranih zvaničnika crnaca oprezan i neinspirativan.“

Taylor, koji je profesor afroameričkih studija na Univerzitetu Princeton, veoma je kulturan, razborit i darežljiv. Odgovor izabranih crnih zvaničnika koje predvodi Obama na ovaj pokret je bio pozitivno reakcionaran i graniči sa svjesnom izdajom onoga što ustanak Životi crnaca su važni može postići.

Profesor Taylor s pravom optužuje i Kongresno vijeće crnaca i Obamu da pokušavaju gurnuti ustanak Životi crnaca su važni na mlitave i uglavnom uzaludne margine izborne politike, što je historijski funkcionisalo kao diverzijska taktika da se uguši i raspe svaki progresivni čin političkog ustanka.

Uzaludnost izborne politike

Za historijski razvoj ustanka Životi crnaca su važni, Obama nije rješenje već problem. Evo i zašto: ovo čemu danas svjedočimo u pokretu Životi crnaca su važni je historijski povratak Malcolmu X, zaobilazeći generaciju koja je kulminirala Barackom Obamom i njegovom predsjedničkom pozicijom liberalnog imperijalizma.

Historijski, osim nadvisujuće ličnosti Malcolma X, Pokret za građanska prava je pogođen iscrpljujućom ograničenošću koja je zanemarivala globalnu scenu, zabranivši ograničenu zabrinutost za globalne posljedice rata u Vijetnamu.

Legendarni govor koji je Martin Luther King Jr. održao o rasizmu, militarizmu i siromaštvu u crkvi u Riversideu 4. aprila 1967, naprimjer, jedina je prilika kada je on razmatrao više globalni okvir Pokreta za građanska prava. Njegov dvosmisleni stav po pitanju aparthejdne države Izrael, čak i ako ostavimo po strani krivotvoreno pismo koje su mu cionisti pripisali, ostaje ozbiljan kompromis za njegov moralni status.

Ali danas, s ličnostima poput Alice Walker, Cornela West i Angele Davis, prisutna je daleko veća globalna svijest o nepravdi evidentna u stavu BLM-a o militarizmu i njegovoj cionstičkoj gestaciji. Ova činjenica vraća pokret Životi crnaca su važni na mapu koju je iscrtao Malcom X za budućnost oslobođenja crnaca – ne samo SAD, već i Afrika i Latinska Amerika i Azija su bile domene revolucionarnog razmišljanja Malcolma X.

Suprotno današnjem globalnom shvatanju nepravde koja je u suštini ustanka Životi crnaca su važni, centristička izborna politika koju Obama agresivno provodi je Ahilova peta ovog pokreta i lažni izgovor za daleko superiornije i hitnije kritičko razmišljanje i velike socijalne proteste.

Razmotrite lamentiranje Cornela Westa kada je u pitanju tužno Obamino naslijeđe: „Ponovo smo izašli na ulice sa Životi crnaca su važni i drugim grupama i otišli smo u zatvor jer smo protestovali protiv policije koja ubija mlade crnce. Protestovali smo kada su izraelske odbrambene snage ubile više od 2000 Palestinaca [uključujući 550 djece] za 50 dana. A Obama je odgovorio riječima o teškoj borbi policajaca...i sa dodatnih 225 miliona dolara finansijske podrške izraelskoj vojsci. Obama nije ni riječ prozborio o mrtvoj palestinskoj djeci ali jeste nazvao baltimorsku omladinu 'kriminalcima i siledžijama'.“

Izborna politika nam je dala Obamu prije 12 godina, i sada nam daje njegovu žensku verziju u Kamali Harris. Dva reakcionarna liberala, fanatični centristi, nepokoljebljivi cionisti, jedan je dozvolio da nasilna i militarizirana policija napada crnačke zajednice bez kazne pod njegovim vođstvom, a druga je pomogla i podsticala masovno zatvaranje i kriminaliziranje mladih crnaca tokom svoje karijere. Obama i Harris sahranjuju uspomenu na Malcolma X i pretvaraju njegovo karizmatično prisustvo u muzejski relikt.

Zaobilazeći Obamu i njemu slične, svjedoci smo seizmičke promjene, a Život crnaca su važni je samo srce toga. S nama je nova generacija hrabrih i briljantnih lidera, kako nas profesor Taylor podsjeća, „žene poput Mary Hooks iz Southerners on New Ground u Atlanti i Miski Noor i Kandace Montgomery iz the Black Vision Collective u Minneapolisu” koji ponovo artikulišu sasvim drugačiju viziju svoje Amerike. Svijet mora zaobići liberalno bubnjanje centrističkih reakcionara kao što su Obama, Biden i Harris i slušati ove mlade lidere.

Danas su kritičke veze između generacije Harriet Tubman, Fredericka Douglassa, Rose Parks, WEB DuBoisa, Malcolma X, Martina Luthera Kinga Jr-a, Medgar Eversa, Ruby Bridges i brojnih drugih i mladih lidera pokreta Životi crnaca su važni gorostasne ličnosti Cornela Westa, Angele Davis i Alice Walker – svi oni su nedvosmisleno među vodećim glasovima koji hrabro staju u odbranu pravde za palestinsko pitanje. To nije samo borba za pravdu za palestinsko pitanje. To je jednako borba za pravdu prema pokretu Životi crnaca su važni.
