I've seen some folks reblogging old posts from here on @veidtveidtveidt , seemingly just for the gifs, but those often have the link to the old masterpost that no longer works (because Tumblr thinks anything with S*ndsp*ce links is spam). So there's no point in reblogging them because people will just be frustrated by a b0rked link! And I haven't got the time to go back and replace the link on every post, either, so I hope you understand.

If you just want Connie gifs to reblog (which I presume was the whole idea), I suggest you head over to my fannish blog, @aikainkauna , for as many Veidt gifs as you can hope for. I've tagged all of my posts meticulously by film and by actor, so you should be able to find what you're looking for--those exact same gifs at that. Every time I've announced the upload of a film on the masterpost, I've used a gif I've posted on aikainkauna first. So those are much better an option to reblog, rather than a post with text that's now become meaningless.

Edit: if you're new to Tumblr and don't know how to look around for a specific tag on someone's blog, just type this in the address field of your browser:

Just replace "blognamegoeshere" with the name of the blog in question, and the "tagofchoice" with the tag you're looking for. So if I want to find all my Casablanca posts on my blog, I paste this URL into my address bar:

I know that when people start rifling through someone's tag, they often start at the oldest posts, but please, do check what the filesize of a given gif is. If it's just 1 or 2 mb, I probably already have a 3 mb upgrade of it somewhere. The old 'i made this!' tag is full of old shit and I haven't used it for FOUR YEARS. So if you go by that one (please don't), you'll just find old crap gifs and not the ones I've put work into upgrading. You do want the best versions of all those gifs, don't you? Thought as much. Also, please don't likespam--reblogs are much better and a hundred billion likes (=the posts not actually going anywhere) are just a nuisance and will only make me think negatively of you. Likes do bugger-all; reblogs get things going and spread the love. Most importantly, they help get more exposure to that amazing dead German panther we both love and want more people to know about. I don't give a flying fuck about people knowing *me* personally, or follower/note counts for *my* sake; it's Connie I want the world to discover and appreciate. So if you really love him that much, do something that actually counts and reblog him.

It’s like Connie only ever had two settings: either the eerie stillness/stability, or the OUTRAGEOUS SLINK. Here, in a rare moment of heterosexual abandon, Strasser’s throwing his hips at Ilsa in offering. I had to crop them out while optimising, but Paul Henreid’s staring at Connie’s crotch and Claude Rains is looking away, probably because he can’t bear it.

The Veidtstare comes out

One more thing I love about Casablanca is that Curtiz, while he was a dick, could keep even the biggest stars in check, direction-wise. Connie was so famous for his icy, crazy stare and physically intense body acting, but they saved that up until halfway in the movie where Strasser’s interrogating Laszlo.

So it’s wonderful to watch how it comes out slowly, slowly--Strasser getting more and more furious during the interview and Connie’s eyes widening more and more, and by the end of it, that hand of his that holds the cigarette is *trembling,* as is the rest of him, from sheer rage. And yet it’s fully contained--much more effective than had they just let him flail and stare at everyone from the start. I haven’t slowed down the FPS so you can see the full emergence of the Veidt Crazy (TM). At “occur,” his voice even starts to creak, and this very threatening-looking, stern Nazi officer sinks into Veidt’s shockingly feline, feminine evil meaow that’s far more menacing than any military bark could ever be...
