#LiepUGraduate2021
Greetings from Tayyab Raza Kahlon from Pakistan ! Tayyab shares his testimony about hist studies at LiepU:
Learning and getting my degree from Liepaja University is something I consider as a big opportunity for me. The faculty staff at Liepaja University is really helpful. They are giving their all while teaching their students. The knowledge I got from my teachers was exceptional. Apart from the Faculty of Science and Engineering, at the International relations department are amazing people too. They treat you as their own. If you get confused, they are always there to guide you to the right path.
My four years in Liepaja University were full of memories, fun, sometimes worries of home works and assignments and of course, full of joy and excitement of new things and challenges. About my thesis topic, I developed the chatbot for admission queries. My research was about chatbots and how they work. I did it with my supervisor Dzintars Tomsons who is also the director of IT study program in #LiepU. He was helpful throughout my thesis and research. With his help I finished my research and defended my thesis.
Thank you, LiepU International relations department and Faculty of Science and Engineering for such a great and memorable journey!
Thank you Tayyab Raza for sharing your experiences and we are happy that you are choosing us also for your master studies!

Hey all, let us introduce you with the very 1st #LiepU student from Philippines - Aries Penetrante!
Read his overall impressions on his studies at LiepU and internship in Spain:
My studies at Liepaja University are a journey that I am glad to have taken. It is a journey full of expectations and natural wonders. Just like any journey it comes with its own challenges, but those challenges are the ones that made it worth taking. The professors, faculty members and staff are most supportive of my studies and guided me on the proper path of learning. They are here all the way to help us to meet the challenges that we face.
They assisted me in availing ERASMUS program scholarship that help me fund my internship in Spain. My Internship in  is another memory worth remembering. I enjoyed my stay in Valencia. It gave a glimpse of the current working condition that I should be expecting in the job industry and prepare me for the tasks. My internship experience also provided me with the idea for my thesis  and it made the implementation easier.
After overcoming the challenges and tests, I managed to finish my studies. I am sure my experience in Liepaja University will be helpful in my future endeavors!
Thank you Aries for choosing Liepaja University! Best of luck in your next professional activities!

Some photos by Emma Charreire, Erasmus+ exchange student from France. Beautiful, right?
Did you know that not only does the seaside promote good physical health, there's much to be said for how it improves your mental well-being too. Sea air even helps you sleep better. These are the few reasons why spring's hike has become a tradition to our office!

Erasmus+ student Emma Charreire from Université de Lorraine, France came to Liepaja in the beginning of this year. This is what she's telling about her exchange semester:
"It was my better choice to choose Liepāja as my destination for my Erasmus semester! at first, for the great welcoming by LiepU Office and the professors of the different courses. And I got the chance to make my IT internship here at Liepāja, thanks to my professors here.
The University organized some events for internationals students, since the beginning to got the chance to meet each others, learn about their culture country, and have a good time!
I meet a lot of great people, several times a week we organized meetings at different places. Liepaja is a city with a lot of cafes, bars and cosy places! Everything is easily accessible by walking.
I'll never forget the friends that I meet here, this University and this lovely city ♥ Thank you Liepāja! "

TOP 6 Favorite Places at Liepaja - suggested by Adrianna from Poland
Before arrival I was looking for worth visiting places in Liepaja on the Internet in order to make full use of my first time being abroad. I have found a lot of information about most visiting places. The ones which impressed me the most were: the main building of Liepaja University, the beach, Karosta, BB Wakepark, the Birdwatch Tower and the Square of Roses where two of the emblems which symbolize partnership between Liepaja and two Polish cities: my hometown, Elbląg, and Gdynia. The weather in the city shook me a little, even though it is really similar to Polish, it is windy almost 24/7. But, it could be a good alternative for a hairdryer. :) The fact that I could walk on the sand dunes was also something new for me (it is forbidden in Poland). All above-mentioned places, churches and Liepaja's architecture are unquestionably worth seeing. Besides, visiting beach almost every day is what I'll definitely miss.
Written Adrianna Mendalka, Erasmus+ intern at Liepaja University International Office from the State University of Applied Sciences (PWSZ) in Elbląg (Poland)

Meet our 1st IT Master student from #Philippines - Aries Penetrante!
He will start his studies from September 2018.
Read why he decided to obtain his Master degree at Liepaja University:
"After applying in several European universities, I decided to start my masters in IT at Liepaja University. I am convinced that I will profit from its European standard, opening exciting future job opportunities both in the Philippines and abroad. Latvia is innovative and dynamic. This is the kind of thinking I hope to learn. Also, the costs of studies and living in Liepaja are quite reasonable, particularly compared to other European universities. The tuition fees I paid in my previous university in the Philippines (and also the fees of a similar degree) are even higher than those of Liepaja University! I also found the use of English as medium of instruction a compelling argument. Nevertheless, I am excited to learn Latvian as a new language. Also, although the visa application was very complicated, because there is no Latvian embassy in the Philippines, the support system of Liepaja University is exemplary. I also had the chance to visit my favorite city Tokyo, where I had to lodge my student visa application. It will be definitely a new challenge. I am looking forward studying in a small European city with a beach!"

Interview with Liepaja University 1st year student of study program “European Language and Culture Studies” - Amina Heydarova from Azerbaijan (11 June 2018)
What are your impressions about Latvia?
Actually I was in Latvia for couple of time before and not just once, but 2-3 times when I was 13-14 years old. And yes, I just really love the country and its culture. But the thing is that I was only in Riga or in other cities, but not in Liepaja. So when I first came to Liepaja: Ok, this is a smaller city then Riga! But my first impressions about the city was – Oh, wow, there is a lot of nature! I really like it, because we don’t have a lot of nature in Baku! So this first came to my attention! And the other thing is – people! Because first I was a little bit skeptical about all those things, I am a foreigner, what I will do, I was a little bit scared! But actually I was surprised in a good and wonderful way the people are so open minded here and I really do like them they are very friendly to me! I was asking to them: Are you always with me because I am a foreigner and you do not want me to feel lonely?! And they said – No, what are you talking about! I guess obviously – if there is good people, the opinion of the city changes to even better opinion then it was before. And I guess the other thing which I really enjoy is is the city life. I would not say that it is really wild, but it is so calm and so pleasant in a way. To be honest – I do not have any negative thoughts towards Liepaja. Sometimes when it is a little bit cold.. Overall besides the cold weather I do not have any negative thoughts towards people or the city in general.
Which is your favorite place at Liepaja?
Definitely – the beach!
Are you satisfied with the studies at Liepaja University?
1st of all I will start with my German studies because it is my main subject. I am so happy with our Lecturer Elita Balčus because she is the best teacher I have had in my entire life! Because I like the method, the way she teaches us. Because when I am in her lessons I do not see myself sitting in a lessons and literally learning something, something I have to learn. It is just a friendly environment, such a good atmosphere. The way she teaches, the method what she finds, she lets us explain, to find our own opinion. It is not just – you have to learn it! No, we are talking about it, we are explaining our own opinions. It does not mean if your opinion is not that smart, she will still listen and that is how we have the conversations. When she teaches us the grammar, of course who likes the grammar, but the way she does it. After that we have kind of games to learn the grammar better and it was just – wow! When I came here I was planning to go to Spanish class, but the things happen and I was picket to German and I am so happy that it happened like this – I met Elita Balčus an it was amazing! And students.. actually one of my best friends here at Liepaja also goes to German classes, that is how we met here at Liepaja. Regarding exchange students at our classes, I guess for me it is good, there are a lot of exchange students from Turkey. We are having almost the same language with them, 90% the same. We are calling ourselves as one nation, but two different countries. I was really surprised that you have Turkish people here!
English studies are also very great here.  I really do enjoy the studies because we have Elissa Steel here (English teacher from USA).
We will have one more teacher next year from USA.
I was actually very pleasant that we have native speaker from America who can teach us. But I am very satisfied with Dagnija (English teacher) too. Me personally does not like the English grammar, I’d rather talk! Talking is easy! And when she gives us interesting presentations about the country or the book she recently read – I mean that’s interesting.
And Latvian is great. I mean – I do not have problems, because I really like to learn new languages.
What are the biggest differences between Latvia and Azerbaijan?
I would not say that people are very different. No, we actually have the same view on the World, same morals, but in terms of people in Latvians they are more accepting towards the foreigners. In Latvia prices are higher then in my country. I guess Latvia is well known that Azerbaijan in terms of the World.
What are your future plans after graduation?
I guess when I will finish my studies, obviously I will continue to study until my very last year. I will see.. I was planning to somehow to find my way to Germany or Austria, I mean German speaking countries. That’s my goal, I will try to follow it. But you can never know what will happen tomorrow. But it this plan will not going to work, still language knowledge is very important. And I know English too. Maybe I will work as Translator somewhere.
Why would you suggest Liepaja University to other international students?
I don’t know how the studies are going to other sections, but well, I am suggesting the study programme, the way how we study is different from my countries programmes, it is a lot more pleasant! And it works better then for example - simple studies when you have to learn everything by heart, without any pleasure. For example when I am doing my homework, I do not have a thought in my brains – I have to do this and if I will not do it I will have this or that. I am doing it because I like it! Because I like teachers, I gain satisfaction, I gain pleasure. And that is the biggest reason! Literally I have a very good opinion on overall programme!
Thank you Amina for sharing it with us! And good luck in your future studies!

Interview with our IT Bachelor level student - Kristina Burlai form Ukraine
Is there differences between people from Ukraine and Latvia?
-          I think that the difference is very small. We are very similar I would say. In both countries people are friendly and welcoming, also helping if there is such need. At least I have always received a help if I needed on the street when I was looking for direction for example. Actually, some people warned me that with this issue I will have problems here. But I have not faced any problem yet.
Where did you find the information about our university?
-          My sister is studying here and this year she will finish her studies, so she informed me that there is a possibility to study also in English language. So we decided to try.
What do you like the most about our university?
-          In this university I really like how lecturers are delivering the information, I know that I always can ask for a help to them. I know if I will have a problem regarding studies, they will always guide me.
Which is your favourite subject?
-          I really like Mathematics.
What are the biggest differences in teaching methods?
-          Yes, there is a big difference between Latvia and Ukraine. In Ukraine they are not giving that much information, they hope that the students will find the information by themselves. Even if you are asking something, not always you will get an answer on your questions. They could even tell – go and search and tell after to others!
Have you ever attened some events organized by the university?
-          I really liked the Latvian cultural evening! We were learning to dance. Also I liked the event when the students were telling about their countries.
What about your class mates?
-          Yes, I had a good contact with my class mates. We became friends very fast and found common language.
What would you like to wish to potential students from Ukraine?
-          They will not regret if they will decide to study at Liepaja University! Also it is very important before coming to Latvia to know English language. Russian language knowledge is also very important here in Latvia. Also I think students should have some knowledge in the area where they will study here, so when the student will come to lectures, he already will know something.
Come to study at Liepaja University and get a good knowledge you will be able to use in the future!
