Weekly Recap | June 22-28th 2020
I was gonna say that it’s a shorter one this week because I read two long fics, and then I got distracted by the NASBB claims!! But turns out I did manage to read quite a bit after all? 😅
Complete
💙 Strangers in the Street by crinklefries/ @spacerenegades (Canon Divergent | 15K | Teen): Every five years, Bucky meets the same tall, blond stranger.
💙 Where The Interstate Ends by paperstorm/ @paper-storm (Evanstan AU, Teachers | 152K | Explicit): In which Sebastian, Chris, Hayley, and Anthony are professors at Yale University, are all outsiders running from their own baggage, and find a new family in each other (Part 1 of In Coastal Towns Like These)
Look Back With a Lighter Soul by paperstorm/ @paper-storm (Evanstan AU | 5K | Mature): Sebastian inhales slowly and smiles to himself. He’s been picking up on things. Small things, that on their own might mean nothing at all but added up together, just might mean something. Something pretty important. (Part 2 of In Coastal Towns Like These)
💙 Whole In Your Frame by AidaRonan/ @bisexualstarbucky (Shrunkycunks | 15K | Explicit): When Fury tells Steve Rogers someone wants to study his blood, Steve is adamant about it being a bad idea. Until Bucky explains his true intentions. Now all that's left is to get to know Bucky Barnes and decide if he can trust him.
i'm kinda busy by howdoyousleep@howdoyousleep3 (Modern AU, Daddy Kink, PWP | 1,3K | Explicit): Bucky is ripped from his sweet cloud of dirty talk and thick cock when Steve’s phone rings. Bucky doesn’t stop his noises but drops his head back onto the bed. Steve will wait, will call them back, doesn’t lose his pace. Bucky opens his mouth to pick up where he left off when—“This is Rogers.”
WIP
Find Our Way by leavinghope (Modern AU, Coworkers | 1/2 | 3K | Teen): Bucky Barnes had a best friend, a fulfilling career, and a good life all on his own. But maybe, just maybe, there was room in his life for a partner? And maybe that partner could be Steve Rogers.
Tender is the Ghost by Hark_bananas/ @harkbananas (Post-WS | 1/12 | 14K | Explicit): This thought is uncontrollably followed by another one: I’m not alone anymore. He looks over his shoulder, through the kitchen door, to where Bucky is sitting at his usual place at the head of the dining table, and he feels an unconstrainable smile breaking out across his face, the barest hint of threatening tears along its bright edge. Bucky is still looking past Steve’s left ear, but slowly, gingerly, one side of his mouth quirks up. Steve feels giddy, he wants to shout, or faint, or something to relieve the carbonated pressure that is bubbling up inside of him. Instead, he laughs, short and cheerful, and opens the oven door. (Part 2 of Tender is the Ghost)
💙 Querencia by SinpaiCasanova (Royalty, ABO AU, Tudor Era | 2/3 | 7K | Explicit): “Oh no, Mother, not another courting ceremony,” Steve protests, a whine slipping into his voice that he’d be rather embarrassed about if anyone other than Sarah ever heard it. “I beg you, no more. I can’t go through that puffed up charade again, being paraded before a dozen worthy Omegas like I’m some prime cut of meat. She probably won’t even like me.” “Well, Steven,” she gently corrects, “she is a he, and the only one you’d be ‘paraded’ in front of.”
💙 A Matter of Trust by chicklette/ @chicklette (Singer Bucky, Fake relationship | 8/13 | 30K | Explicit): At 43, James Barnes is a washed up old man. He’s got a dozen Grammys in the hall closet, an agent that can’t get him a deal, a decade-old case of writer’s block, a moody teen-aged daughter, and the gorgeous actress Natasha Romanova for an ex-wife. Enter Steven Grant Rogers, struggling twenty-something, orphan, and someone who has no idea who Barnes is. The two men meet by accident, doing nothing more than passing the time in a quiet bar. But when a pap gets a shot of the two men embracing, Bucky takes it as a chance to finally come out as bisexual, and his agent makes him a proposition: Ten new songs and one very sweet boyfriend will get him a new record deal that will maybe, just maybe put him back on top. Now all he has to do is write the songs, convince the kid, and not fall in love. Should be easy, right?
Re-read
💙 Lights, Camera, Action by Kellyscams/ @thebestpersonherelovesbucky (Pornstar AU | 17K | Explicit) Bucky Barnes, aka the Soldier is one of Stark Naked's most popular models. Having worked in the adult film industry for a few years, he's gotten used to the daily flow of things. So when his favorite director, Sam, calls him in for an unscheduled shoot, Bucky figures it'll be more of the same. What he's most definitely not prepared for is meeting their newest model, Steve Rogers--who personally requested Bucky for his first scene. Not only is Steve the hottest guy Bucky's ever seen, he's sweet and adorable and cuddly and... Bucky's never hit it off so well with another model before. This shoot might very well changed everything.

After making her screen debut in 1989, Sandra Oh has enjoyed a remarkable career in both film and television. Although the versatile talent and 12-time Emmy nominated actress is best known for her iconic roles as Cristina Yang on Grey’s Anatomy and Eve Polastri on Killing Eve, Oh has also worked with some of the finest movie directors, including Alexander Payne, Steven Soderbergh, Mina Shum, John Cameron Mitchell, and more.
RELATED: Killing Eve – 10 Best Quotes From The Show
As fans continue to enjoy Oh’s new hit Netflix sitcom The Chair, it’s worth recollecting her best movie moments for those who want to see more of the talented actress on the big screen.
10 Defendor (2009): 6.8
Peter Stebbings’ dark offbeat superhero comedy Defendor stars Oh as Dr. Ellen Park, a psychiatrist who gives hilarious facial and verbal reactions to the outlandish story relayed to her by Arthur Poppington (Woody Harrelson), an ordinary man moonlighting as a vigilante crime fighter.
Cut from the same genre-bucking, irreverent cloth as James Gunn’s Super, once Arthur confesses his secret life to Dr. Park, she convinces the judge to go easy on him and allow him to continue his heroic activity. When tragedy strikes, Oh shows how much heartfelt pathos she can portray by attending a touching ceremony for her patient.
9 Under The Tuscan Sun (2003): 6.8
Written and directed by the late Audrey Wells, Under the Tuscan Sun is a delightfully uplifting rom-com about Frances (Diane Lane), a writer who ups and leaves her life in San Francisco to live in Tuscany after discovering her husband’s infidelity. Oh plays Patti, Frances’ best friend who encourages her to travel to Italy.
RELATED: Sandra Oh – 10 Best Roles, Ranked (According To Rotten Tomatoes)
In addition to the gorgeous locations, breezy tone, and rich cinematography, Oh adds complexity to the story as Patti, a lesbian expecting a child even after her lover Grace (Kate Walsh) has left her. It’s Patti’s visit to Tuscany when she’s nine months pregnant that helps Frances find the courage to pursue true love despite the painful past.
8 Double Happiness (1994): 7.0
Oh made her feature film debut in Mina Shum’s must-see coming-of-age tale Double Happiness, in which she plays the lead role of Chinese-Canadian Jade Li. The intensely personal semiautobiographical drama shows how divided Jade is between her traditional Chinese upbringing and her modern Canadian lifestyle.
With a natural performance by Oh matched with the authentic, well-observed writing of Shum, the movie is a universally relatable tale of a person grappling with their own identity while trying to appease the expectations of loved ones. In her first film performance, Oh won the Genie Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, proving what a titanic talent she has been from the start.
7 Rabbit Hole (2010): 7.0
John Cameron Mitchell’s Rabbit Hole is a bruising account of a family dealing with the death of a young child at the hands of a teenage driver. Nicole Kidman gives a memorable and towering performance as Becca, a mournful mother who begins to find solace by interacting with Jason (Miles Teller), the driver who accidentally took her son’s life.
Although she has a smaller supporting role, Oh plays Gabby, a fellow grieving parent who helps Howie (Aaron Eckhart) deal with his loss at the group therapy sessions he and Becca attend. With profound empathy for Howie, she becomes instrumental in his healing process.
6 Meditation Park (2017): 7.1
Twenty-three years after working with Mina Shum for the first time, Oh reunited with the filmmaker for the sweet-natured drama Meditation Park in 2017. The story concerns Maria Wang (Pei-Pei Cheng), an aging woman in the throes of an existential crisis upon suspecting her husband’s infidelity. Oh plays Maria’s daughter Ava, a mother of two who encourages Maria to reconcile with her estranged brother ahead of his wedding and break free from her husband’s hold.
RELATED: Asian-American Movies to Watch If You Loved Crazy Rich Asians
As another trenchant glimpse at the immigrant experience and a statement about the importance of women finding their own voice, Shum’s film is tender, touching, and triumphant.
5 Hard Candy (2005): 7.1
David Slade’s Hard Candy is a deeply unnerving glimpse at a predatory pedophile (Patrick Wilson) getting his just deserts when a teenager (Elliot Page) tricks, traps, and tortures him in his apartment. Oh plays the man’s neighbor, Judy Tokuda, admitting she only took the role due to her working relationship with Page, a fellow Canadian she worked with on Wilby Wonderful the year prior.
With most of the action set inside the inescapable apartment, the visceral terror of the violence that Hayley (Page) exacts on Jeff (Wilson) is met by the suffocating sense of claustrophobia, making for a really upsetting experience. However, the hugely satisfying conclusion helps atone for the squeamish and uncomfortable moments of carnage.
4 Last Night (1998): 7.2
The most unheralded of Oh’s top films happens to be Last Night, a mordant pitch-black comedy about the impending apocalypse and the rag-tag band of Canadians with differing views on how to react. With the end of the world set to strike at midnight, Sandra (Oh) tries to make it out of her stranded position in Toronto and reunite with her husband, Duncan (David Cronenberg). One bad thing after another ensues.
Weird, wild, and ultimately winning, Last Night boasts writer/director Don McKellar’s signature brand of dark humor and anarchic energy. As such, the film has become an unforgettable cult classic among those who’ve seen it.
3 Raya And The Last Dragon (2021): 7.4
With great respect and honor for the rich historical traditions of Southeast Asia, Raya and the Last Dragon is one of Disney’s most beloved recent animated movies. Sandra Oh lends her voice to the commanding role of Virana, the Fang chieftess and mother of Raya’s main rival, Namaari (Gemma Chan).
RELATED: Raya And The Last Dragon – What The Voice Actors Look Like In Real Life
With a moving story, spellbinding animation, and characters never before seen, Raya and the Last Dragon continue to soar in the hearts and minds of viewers.
2 Sideways (2004): 7.5
Directed by her then-husband Alexander Payne, Oh demonstrated her hilarious comedic chops in the indie darling Sideways, a character study of a failing writer at an existential crossroads. The boozy road trip follows Miles (Paul Giamatti), an uptight novelist, and his lecherous pal Jack (Thomas Hayden Church), as they hit Santa Barbara wine country on a tasting tour.
Praised for its excellent performances and light tonal touch between comedy and drama, Oh gives a standout turn as Stephanie, a cool sommelier who has a steamy love affair with Jack (whom she does not know has a fiancee). When she finds out, she goes absolutely ballistic in one of the movie’s funniest moments. The story is so sharply penned that it won an Oscar for Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay.
1 The Red Violin (1998): 7.6
Despite playing a bit role as Madame Ming in the fifth and final chapter of The Red Violin, the ambitious epic ranks among Sandra Oh’s most well-received movie to date. The film traces a famed 17th-century Violin from its creation in Italy to its auction in modern-day Montreal, and all that the instrument endured in creating some of the most beautiful music the world has ever heard.
Praised for its sumptuous set decorations and costume designs, Oscar-winning original music, intelligent story, and a throwback style of filmmaking that calls to mind the grand epics of the past, the resonance of The Red Violin is still felt today.

Klaroline Bingo 2020 (1/?) - “Flowers” - Flowers are romantic
This was written for Klaroline Bingo @klaroline-events.
“Caroline Forbes, beautiful, clever and brilliant”, that were the words that Teen Vogue used to describe her on the interview she did about her lifestyle coach business. At the time of that interview she was confident on herself and her business, really believing those words that were used by the magazine. Now, 7 months later, the only thing she was completely sure was that her life was a disaster and it was all by her own doing.
Okay maybe her business was getting big and became instafamous, but her personal life was a complete disaster. She managed to disappoint everyone on her life, specially her best friend, Klaus Mikaelson, the person she was madly in love with, and who she was pretty sure couldn’t look at her right now.
Klaus and Caroline known each other since sophomore year, when Klaus’ family moved to the USA. Although he was quite popular – mostly because his looks –, he was always by himself to focused on some drawing on his sketch book. He barely spoke, but when he did, would always be to annoy the person who was his listener, Klaus was just as arrogant as he was charming. And he loved to rile Caroline up, especially after she won Miss Mystic Falls on their junior year.
After they finished school, they became friends after Caroline’s best friend, Bonnie, started dating Klaus’s younger brother, Kol. So, during their years studying in New York, Klaus and Caroline would find themselves together at the bar while Bonnie and Kol were making eyes at each other. Those times that they forced to spend together actually showed how much they had in common and they became friends really fast.
At that time nothing romantic transpired between them because Caroline was still with her high school boyfriend, Tyler Lockwood, whom now she referred to as douchebag. After Caroline found out Tyler cheated on her several times, Klaus took care of her stuff that was still at Tyler’s house and made sure she wouldn’t have to deal with any Lockwood until she was ready.
Ever since they became best friends, they were always there for each other, raising each other up when they deserved, lecturing each other when they were wrong on something, being there during the good and the bad times. When Caroline’s mother died, Klaus held her all through the night and made sure she was well fed and taken care of, he helped her with the funeral and organizing her mother’s home, never leaving her alone. Just as Caroline did when Klaus found out that his father wasn’t really his father, which explained all the kinds of abused he suffered by his not-father when he was younger.
After Mikael Mikaelson revealed that he wans’t Klaus biological father, he also informed him that he was cut from the will, just as he wouldn’t pay for his apartment in New York, nor receive a place on the family Company. That left Klaus broken.
After that, Caroline asked Klaus to join her in Chicago, where she was about to open her lifestyle coaching business and could really use his help. They moved to Chicago and opened Caroline’s business. They would never see eye to eye on stuff and were always bickering. Klaus liked to say that that was side effect of both their stubborn and determined personalities.
Caroline’s stepfather, Steven, was quite rich and he not only gave Caroline the capital to open her business, but he also let Klaus and Caroline live in his gigantic apartment until they could afford to get one for themselves.
After some well-done jobs, and a little help from one of Caroline’s friend Katherine that worked at Tenn Vogue, they got that interview, which was great marketing and helped putting them on the radar and getting bigger clients.
And that was when everything started going downhill.
One of these so-called important clients was Caroline’s ex, douchebag, and his fiancée, Hayley Marshall, the daughter of a senator. Klaus gave Caroline all his support if she wanted to turn them down, but both knew that even if they were becoming famous, they still didn’t have enough cash to turn down any potential client.
The job itself ended up being quite easy but dealing with Tyler and Hayley was a completely nightmare.
It was such a nightmare that Caroline even hired an assistant to help her with all of Hayley’s demand. Camille O’Connel was the right choice as an assistant, she was hard working and too nice for her own good. Camille and Caroline became instant friends and confidents.
Caroline and her fond of matchmaking – due to her whole lifestyle coach way of living – tried her best to find Camille the best of matches, something better than her current crush, the computer guy called Vincent. All dates Caroline set for Camille ended up on heartbreak and devastation – yeah, not so great.
Klaus did warn her that she should not meddle on her friends love life and that everyone she set Camille with were wrong, but of course she didn’t listen.
After a turn of event, that ended up with Caroline insulting one of her late mother’s best friend, Klaus screaming at her how disappointed he was on her and him leaving her along to pick up the pieces.
She would never forget Klaus face when lectured her off and told he was leaving.
“Badly done Caroline. It was truly badly done. I expected more of you” were Klaus exact words.
That was a month ago.
After two weeks of him radio silence, not answering her calls and not replying to her texts, Caroline found out through Bonnie that he had left to London to solve some family affairs regarding his biological father.
Caroline really wanted to text him, wish him good luck, but she knew to take a hint. No matter how painful it was.
It was on the last week that everything totally crumbled. She was at the office with Camille, getting some stuff done, mostly trying to distract herself from all her thoughts about Klaus.
—————————
1 week ago ( 3rd week without Klaus / miserable week nº 3)
“So, Klaus told me that he would probably be coming back next week, but it would be really briefly. Apparently, he has to go back to London right after.” Camille commented as they were arranging the seating charts of the next event.
“Oh. Did he?” Caroline tried to conceal her surprise on finding out that Klaus was talking to Camille but not her. “Did he say something about getting back to work?”
“Not really. But I can ask him next time he call me. Would you like that?” Camille didn’t notice Caroline fists closing.
“I would. If you don’t mind, of course. We aren’t on good terms right now…” Caroline replied trying to control her voice.
After a small silence she couldn’t contain her curiosity no longer. “So, do you guys been talking a lot?”
“Yes! Caroline, I thought you would never ask” Camille couldn’t barely contain her excitement. “I’m pretty sure he is going to ask me out as soon as he return to Chicago. Can you believe it? Me, simple Camille O’Connel caught Klaus freaking Mikaelson eyes?”
“What?” Caroline knew her jealously was showing, but she didn’t give a damn. “What you mean Klaus is going to ask you out? Camille, are you sure? Klaus can be quite charming when he wants to be, but please don’t mistake this with real affection.”
“You think he wouldn’t want to date me? You think someone like Klaus could never be interest in someone like me?” Camille’s voice was so quite Caroline almost didn’t listen. “Why?”
That escalated real quick.
“Because he is Klaus. He is infuriating, arrogant, short tampered. Because –“ Caroline couldn’t finish it because she was cut by Camille.
“Really Caroline? And you call the man your best friend? Klaus he is considerate, he is charming, patient, loving.” Caroline knew and cherish that side of Klaus all to well. “Once I told him that I hadn’t had time for lunch, and he went out and got me a salad”.
Caroline tried really hard not to laugh of the image of Klaus going out to buy Camille a salad, but the laugh turned to a cry when she realized that Klaus would only ever do that for someone he really cared about.
“Camille, I’m sorry.” Caroline reached for the girls’ hand, trying to calm herself. “If Klaus gave you reason to believe he has feelings for you, then it must be true. He is the last guy who would intentionally lead a girl on when he really didn’t have feelings for her, right?”
Not after some of the heartbreaks his sister had been through. After he saw the damage that Stefan Salvatore did to Rebekah he never again gave his affection to anyone so freely.
“Yeah, that was what I thought…” Camille gave Caroline a small smile. “When he asked me if I was seeing anyone, I took that as a huge sign that he was interested.”
“He asked you that?”
The ringing of the company’s phone had Camille running to get that before she couldn’t answer Caroline’s question.
———
Today
Klaus had just walked through the doors of their apartment. She thought he wouldn’t be coming back to flat while he was back at Chicago. At least not while Caroline was at home. Since he was doing his best to avoid her through the entire month, she just assumed he would keep doing that once he returned.
She was stress cleaning when he approached her. Klaus looked handsome as ever, with a dark henley, black jeans, suitcase in one hand and flowers in the other.
Flowers. He thought flowers were romantic. Of course, those flowers where for Camille. He was totally going to wreck her heart in a million pieces without even knowing.
“Stress cleaning, love?” he approached her. “Really?”
“You are back” she lounged herself at him for a hug. “I didn’t think you were ever coming back”
They stayed like that for a while. Klaus rocking her back, and tears rolling down her face.
“Hey! I’m always coming back for you sweetheart” Klaus pushed her back enough to look into her eyes to show how serious he was about it. “I thought you knew it”.
“I didn’t know that” Caroline whispered. “Not after what I did to Jenna… I thought you have had enough…”
“Never” he brushed her tears from her eyes.
“I heard you went to England, huh?” Caroline asked putting some distance between them.
“My biological father decided to show up. Apparently he is the owner of Wolf Limited back at England and wanted not only to meet me, but he also want to train me to be his successor” Klaus told her.
“This is huge! Oh my gosh! I can’t believe it! Is he nice? How long had he known about you? Is he better than Mikael? I mean, that is not hard, but is good to make sure…” he knew her rambling way too well and knew that he should let her vent out before start answering all of his questions.
“Caroline, love, breathe” he laughed at her exasperated face. “I know! I know! “It’s huge” -” he even gestured for her. “He is quite nice, very much like me, clever, brooding artist, way too into the boring stuff and all that”.
“Does he have the same cute dimples and terrible taste for movies?”
“Yes. And let’s not forget about the amazing jaw line” he joked with her. “But he is much, much better than Mikael. He is a good person, too good to be true..”
“Hey! Don’t be skeptical about this! Just because Mikael was an ass, it doesn’t mean that your real father will be also” she reached for his hand. “I really would like to meet him! The father of my favourite person on the world”
“That is exactly why I came back” he didn’t let go of her hand. “Ansel, my biological father, wants to meet all of the important people in my life. He will be coming here in Chicago in a few weeks, and I was thinking that maybe my favourite lifestyle coach business could help me with that”.
“I’m your favourite lifestyle coach business, really?”
“You’re my favourite everything, love” his thumb was drawing circles on the back of her hand.
“What?” her heartbeat was so fast she was pretty sure he could feel it where their hands were connected.
With his free hand he reached for the flowers that he was holding earlier – Camille’s flowers.
He was going to tell her about Camille. He was going to her that he loved Camille. It was like the world was spinning and she couldn’t hold back the tears that found their way back into her eyes. She wanted to stop him, she wanted to scream her feelings for him, beg him to not break her heart.
But she couldn’t do any of those things. Klaus was her best friend and she loved him too much. Better have him in her life as a friend than not have him in her life at all.
“Caroline, I wanted to tell you that – “Klaus stopped as soon as he saw the tears on her face. “You are crying?”
“No! It is nothing! I’m just too emotional that you are back” she squeezed his hand encouraging him to continue. “I’m your friend, and I will always be here for you and listen to you as your friend”
“My friend? Is that what you want” Klaus frowned, hands dropping hers.
“I just want you to be happy. I want you to be happy more than anything” she replied softly, trying to ignore the emptiness she felt now that he had stepped back a little.
“You have no idea what I’m talking about” he stated.
“Klaus…”
“No, Caroline, it is your turn to listen to me.” Klaus words were determined.
Slowly, as if he was afraid of how she would react, he put the flowers on her hand. “These are for you”.
Everything stopped.
Klaus was giving her flowers. The most beautiful flowers. “I told you I could get a girl flowers”.
“For me?” his reply was a simple nod.
“But flowers are romantic” she said softly more to herself, looking disbelieving to the flowers.
After a few seconds she dared to look back up at Klaus, he was looking expectantly at her, waiting for her brain to catch up with what he had just told her with these flowers. “Flowers are romantic” Caroline stated again, this time looking at Klaus and starting to grasp the concept of him giving her flowers.
He once told her that he would only give a girl flowers when he truly loved her. For Klaus there were nothing more romantic than to give a girl flowers, and that was the precise reason he had never giving flowers to any girl before.
Klaus reached for her hand one more time. “Caroline Elizabeth Forbes, I don’t have the words to tell you how much in love with you I am. But maybe If I loved you less, I could tell you more. I don’t want to be just friends with you, I want to be your last love”.
“But-, I mean - , I thought – “ Caroline tried to answer him, tell him her feelings, but it was too much of shock. A few minutes ago, she was pretty sure he was about to her that he had feelings to another, not that he had feelings for her.
“Clearly you don’t have the words either. I guess we have a first time for everything” he even laughed at the state of shock that she was.
As soon as everything Caroline mind caught up with what was happening, she saw that his amused expression at her loss of words just wouldn’t do. So, she did the only logical thing to do at that moment, she kissed him. She kissed the hell out of him, as if she was trying to tell him all of her feelings through that kiss.
After the initial shock, Klaus reacted, letting his hand letting hers go just so he could put them on her waist, wandering on her back, bringing her even closer to him. Kissing Klaus felt like coming home after a long time. Caroline started the kiss slow, taking her time discovering his mouth, memorizing the taste of his lips against hers. One of her hands found their way to his hair, as the other went stroked the place on his cheeks where his dimples made their way when he was smiling.
Then Klaus decided that it was his time to control the kiss. He moved them until her back found the wall. His kiss was languid and sensual. He nipped her bottom lip, stroking his tongue along the bite, and then kissing her merciless until she was panting. He moved his lips from her mouth, giving her skin open mouthed kisses. He started with the side of her lips, her cheeks and made is way through her neck. Caroline eyes were closed, her hands on his hair, tugging a little as she couldn’t contain a moan. Klaus smiled against her skin, enjoying the affect he had on her.
“This feels even better than what I imagined” Caroline couldn’t control the worlds that escaped her mouth when Klaus hands found their way under her shirt.
“Dreamed of me often?” Klaus pulled back to look at her eyes. “Later you have to tell me all about that” he brushed her hair behind her ear, with a goofy smile on his face. He brought his thump to stroke her kissed lips. Savouring the image she made for him - only for him she thought.
On that moment, looking at Klaus eyes, seeing his how disheveled he looked by the wondering of her hands, Caroline couldn’t contain how pleased and happy she felt.
He moved to resolve their kissing, but Caroline stopped him.
“What?” he looked intrigued.
“I promised myself I would tell you this the next time we saw each other.” She stroked his cheeks. “Klaus Mikaelson, I love you.”
As soon as the words left her mouth Klaus kissed her deeply. His hand stroked her cheek. Different than the other kiss, this once was sofly, slow and short. His head went a little back so he could rest his forehead against her.
They stayed like that for a while, just breathing each other in.
After a few heartbeats, Klaus put some more distance between them, not much - never much. “What about we go out for lunch?”
“Like a date?” she teased.
“Yes” he smiled.
“I would love nothing more” she smiled back.
Caroline put the flowers on vase. Picked her purse and waited for Klaus on the door of their apartment. As soon as he appeared, he took her hand on his, leading her down the hall.
While they waited for the elevator, she told him what he had missed on those weeks he been away and making it pretty clear that he never again should go M.I.A on her.
“Love, what did you thought I was going to tell you before?” he asked curious, with an amused smile on his face at her panic reaction.
“Oh my gosh! That!” the panic became embarrassment rather fast. “Do you remember Camille? You know the girl who you talked and answered her texts these last few weeks?”
“Is this jealousy that I detect?” his amused smiled turned into a very smug one.
“Shut up! But yes, it is” he was grinning at her. “Shut up!” she said shoving him back a little. “I mean, apparently you gave her reasons to believe you were interested in her. And in the way she told me, even I thought that you were going to take the next step with Camille, which I really reproach because she is our employee and it would be way such a legal problem.”
“Of course,” his eyes twinkled at the jealousy she was showing. He was enjoying this way too much on her opinion. “But I don’t see how I could have given Camille the impression that I was interested on her.”
“Klaus, you didn’t talk to me the whole month but you talked to her,” She started listing.
“Because of work! I couldn’t let all the incompetents bring our business down. I mean I was mad at you, but I wouldn’t leave you to your demise. She just happens to be really good at her job, so I knew I could leave it to her to help you”
She just gave him a nonbelieving look.
“You were really nice to her, even bought her lunch. Like you aren’t nice to anyone who isn’t me or one of your siblings.”
“Because she needed to be healthy to help you.” Flashed her a smirk. “That, and there was this salad that I had bought and wouldn’t eat because you asked me to join you for lunch that they. She was hungry and I had good food that would be wasted.”
“Ok! Why did you asked if she was seeing anyone?”
“Vincent asked me to!”
“Oh! That makes so more sense” Caroline reached for his hand again. “I went a little crazy when she told me all about how she thought she had caught the eye of ‘Klaus freaking Mikaelson’.” Klaus flinched at that.
“The only person ever caught my eye is Caroline freaking Forbes” he pushed her close so he could kiss her cheek, putting his arm around shoulder.
They strolled towards their favourite Italian restaurant just like that.
Caroline couldn’t remember a time when she was happier than this. As they bickered and joked all Caroline could think: at last everything is fine.

How The Ideal Male Figure is Represented in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Men have been historically represented as stereotypically masculine, tall, handsome, and strong in earlier Western cinema, a mirror image of what was, and apparently still is, perceived as the ‘ideal’ masculine figure. As Wienke says in their 1998 book; “A similar relationship between muscularity and prescriptive masculinity resonates in contemporary films, particularly in the action films of the American cinema”1. This is an especially prominent theme in action-adventure films, with the male lead tending to be the one to save the day and inevitably gain the affections of the damsel in distress. For example, one of the most common sub-genres to perpetuate this idea is Western films. One such example from 1953 is Shane (George Stevens), with another being Django Unchained (2013, Quentin Tarantino). Even with 60 years between them, these films both maintain this stereotypical ‘manly man’ as the male ideal in their characters. However, today the focus is not on Westerns, but on two contemporary action-adventure releases, both of the superhero sub-genre. I will be looking at the representations of men in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011, Joe Johnston) and Iron Man 3 (2013, Shane Black), and whether these representations are changing from what they once were.
I will first be looking at Captain America: The First Avenger, which was released two years before the third installment of the Iron Man film series, and three years after the first. The male ideals presented in this film are drastically different from those shown in Iron Man 3, yet in some ways very similar. For example, both male leads in these films are the ones who bring resolution to the endings of their respective films, and both are, for the most part, positive role models to audiences of younger males. However, some may argue that the largely unattainable physique of Captain America, or Steve Rogers, is a negative image to be showing to this audience, due to the fact that the average male cannot achieve his level of fitness. In fact, Chris Evans, the actor behind Steve Rogers, is reported to have said that during his workouts in preparation for the role, he pushed his body to breaking point; “I've always liked going to the gym, but these weren't normal gym sessions. I was puking at the gym. They were brutal, absolutely brutal.” (Body Building, 2019)2. This super-human character, who in the film gained his stature from a top-secret ‘super-soldier’ serum, could make the young male audience of the film feel self-conscious about their own bodies, heightened by certain early scenes in the movie when Captain America is small and skinny. For example, in a scene prior to Steve Rogers’ transformation, Steve initiates a bar fight with a loud man in an attempt to console a woman upset by the war ongoing at this point in time. Once the fight escalates outside, Steve is saved by his childhood best friend, Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan). According to the script;
[The jerk knocks Steve back into a pile of garbage. He moves to hit him, but someone grabs his arm.]
BUCKY: What’s with all the fighting?
[Bucky goes on to hit Steve’s attacker and he runs away.]
This scene is a complete juxtaposition to later scenes in the film. After his transformation, Steve is more confident, and is noticed more often by women than he was ever before. He is even paraded around America as the symbol of what a solider should be; patriotic, brave, and, perhaps most of all, tall, fit and muscular. As well as this, it is only after his transformation that Steve captures the attention of his love interest, Peggy (Hayley Atwell).
Arguably, this shows the audience that the solution to their problems is to become like Steve Rogers, the ultimate symbol of masculinity in America.
In contrast to Captain America: The First Avenger, the second film I will be looking at, Iron Man 3, is much more modern in its approach to ideas of what the ideal male figure is. For example, although Iron Man (henceforth known as Tony Stark), who is played by Robert Downey Jr., is fit and healthy for a man of his age (47, at the time which the film was released), he is in no way as muscular or stereotypically attractive and ‘clean-cut’ as Steve Rogers is. He is shown to be athletic in build, yet not having an unachievable body type as Rogers does, and rugged. This seems to be a much more positive image to be showing to the main audience of the MCU’s films; males between the ages of 15-29. This, added with Stark’s ‘father figure’ arc in the film, shows that perhaps he is a more positive role model than some of the other male MCU characters, despite his previous playboy lifestyle.
As well as this, another huge difference between the two films is the way in which male mental health is approached. In Iron Man 3, Stark is shown to have symptoms of PTSD and anxiety attacks brought on by the events of Avengers: Assemble (2012, Joss Whedon). Even the simple fact that Stark’s mental health is addressed in this film is a huge leap in front of Captain America, which does not address how war may have affected Rogers at all, as well as how the events of Avengers: Assemble, which Rogers went through with Stark, could have affected him, too. Mental health is a rarely spoken about subject for men, with many men feeling as though it will make others perceive them as weak or feminine for being in touch with their emotions. According to Priory, 40% of men will not talk about mental health to anyone, despite 77% of men polled having been diagnosed with depression, stress, or, similarly to Stark, anxiety (Priory Group, 2015).3 Of course, it could be argued that Steve Rogers was brought up in a time in which mental health was even more rarely discussed between both men and women (during WWII), which could be the reason why he does not talk about his emotions as much. However, perhaps the MCU could have made this a plot point to allow other characters to encourage him to open up about his feelings to help him and to modernize the film.
In summary, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in general, portrays good role models for their young audience for the most part, however perhaps the unattainable looks of some of their characters is negatively affecting young men in today’s modern climate. Speaking especially of young teenagers watching these films, whose minds are easily mouldable, maybe some subtle dialogue is needed within the scripts of these films to show that you do not need to look as muscular, tall, and handsome as their characters in order to attract women and to achieve what dreams they may have.

UNAVAILABLE
Name: Arwen Rhodes. Age: 20. Species: Human. Sexuality: Bi-curious. Faceclaim: Lyndsy Fonseca. Personality: Arwen isn't one of those "easy to read" people. She is well-mannered, usually nice and appropriate in situations she finds herself in. She's very adaptable, able to adjust to almost any situation, but she almost never lets it show how she truly feels about something, which makes her come off as slightly robot-ish and detached. She is extremely unpredictable, which makes people cautious around her. Beneath the surface, she feels extremely lonely, but is too afraid of letting herself feel for anyone, out of fear of being hurt. If she ever did form a firm relationship with anyone, it would take a lot of effort from both sides, but they would ultimately be met with loyalty, compassion and selflessness from Arwen. Biography: Arwen Amaryllis Rhodes was born to two human parents, a newly married young couple with a lot of issues. Both Morgana and Steven were addicted to drugs, and struggled to make ends meet as they wasted most of their income on it. Morgana didn't really take proper care of herself during the pregnancy, and right after giving birth, Arwen didn't react like normal children did. After detecting drugs in her system, the hospital in which she gave birth called child protective services, and Arwen was immediately taken from her parents. Before the whole process of taking their parental rights away was done, they had given Arwen their name, but ultimately the court decided to rid them of their rights and send Arwen into a children's home. She stayed there during the first three years of her life, after which she was finally placed into her first foster family. It turned out the family only fostered children for the benefits they received from it, and didn't care about Arwen at all. She stayed with them for the next five years of her life, being neglected and ignored. Sometimes, she would get beat up if she misbehaved, although the occasions were rare because she followed orders and did what she was told to do. At the age of 8, she was moved into another foster family, where she stayed only two years. They treated her like an actual human being and paid attention to her needs, and just when she was beginning to get attached to them, her new foster father lost his job and they could no longer keep her. After that, she got switched through four more homes, each worse than the last one. Finally, when she was 16, the Lynn family took her in. Arwen could see from the start that Kate and Bartholomew were amazing parents to their daughter, Hayley, but as hard as they tried, Arwen wouldn't let them get close to her. She refused any attempts at physical contact, and she would never talk about how she felt. Realizing they weren't making any progress by keeping her close to them, they sent her to the same boarding school Hayley attended, hoping that she would meet someone her own age that would finally make her open up. During her time at the boarding school, Arwen met a boy named Dominic. They attended most of the classes together, and as faith would have it, their teachers kept sticking them together for assignments. Arwen tried really hard in school, so when Dominic refused to take on half of the work, it riled the girl up, and it was the first time in her life she started nagging someone about something she thought needed to be done. Having talked him into being more productive, their communication improved quickly and suddenly they no longer only stuck to school-related stuff. She allowed him to get to know her, and they became the best of friends. On one drunken night, they got slightly carried away and slept together. The next morning, Arwen realized she liked being around him far too much for her own good, and from that day on, she began pretending he didn't exist. After a few months of pursuing her, he had moved on, and although her heart broke because of it, she was also relieved to have gotten rid of the only person that made her feel weak. After that, she only talked to Hayley, and the girl's best friend, Atarah. She limited their interactions despite Hayley's constant nagging and only hung out with them to please her foster parents. Deep down, she liked both of the girls, but she knew they'd part ways as soon as college came about, and she saw no point in getting attached. Furthermore, she wasn't officially adopted, so as soon as she was of age, the Lynns wouldn't have to take care of her anymore. After boarding school, she enrolled into medical school at the University of Chicago. Despite her fears that the Lynns would drop her as soon as they got the chance, they continued to take care of her, even helped her find a small apartment and took care of most of her expenses. Currently, Arwen is focusing on her studies and getting her work experience done, as what she wants more than anything is to finish college, get a well-paid job and stand on her own two feet.

When Darkness Falls, Haylijah fanfiction

Chapter 3 - Long Story Short
After showering and putting her clothes back on, at least she felt somewhat better and cleaner, Hayley wandered out of Rebekah's room to explore the compound as Elijah said she could. Doing anything definitely beat staying in that room any longer. Hayley had felt like a caged wolf, no pun intended, stuck in that room.
It was bad enough to begin with being locked in there since yesterday, but then Elijah revealed that the room was Rebekah's. Every time Hayley thought about that being Rebekah's room, she felt a pang of guilt course through her. At this point, she was no worse than Klaus was. That was not something anyone should ever have to have be a fact about them. It was an awful thing to think and it was an even more awful thing to realize that it was the truth.
Hayley walked through the compound in search of Elijah. He gave her the run of the compound, but a part of her didn't want to go snooping around if she didn't have to. She decided that she would go looking for Elijah and if she couldn't find him then and only then would she go explore the compound on her own. Only open doors, of course. If a door was closed then she wasn't going to break in just to see what was behind the door...no matter how much her curiosity may or may not be piqued.
After searching the compound, high and low, she didn't find Elijah. Hayley was taken aback by how much she was bummed out that she couldn't find him. She'd only known him for literally a day and a half and he was already making her feel things that she'd never felt before. Giving it some thought, Hayley came to the conclusion and passed those feelings off as being due to the fact that Elijah was the first guy in pretty much her entire life that didn't treat her like dirt or act like an ass towards her all the time.
Hayley slowly walked down the long hallway, which looked like a hallway out of a Steven King film adaptation. Most of the doors were shut but there was one room with double doors that was open. Curiosity got the best of her and she walked through the doors without a second thought, finding herself in the study.
Looking around and taking in the room, Hayley made her way over to the bookshelves. She walked down the line of books, reaching out to trail her fingers over the spines. Most of the books were ones that she had never heard of before. She wasn't surprised considering that the books belonged to thousand year old vampires. Of course, the books were from other time periods. It would've been surprising if they weren't.
"Did you find a book that interests you?" a female voice asked from behind Hayley, causing her to jump and spin around quickly to come face to face with the owner of the voice.
"Oh, umm, no! I was just looking around," Hayley answered quickly, recognizing the girl as the other Mikaelson sister, Freya.
Hayley knew just as much about Freya as she knew about Elijah. Their names and the fact that he was a vampire and she was a witch. While Elijah had shown up in town a few months before, Freya had been in town for at least half that time. She had shown up out of the blue and surprised everyone by her presence.
Growing up, Hayley had only ever heard of five Mikaelson siblings...all vampires. Then about a month or so ago, Freya arrived in town and suddenly there was another Mikaelson sibling. Except the newest Mikaelson sibling was not a vampire, she was a witch. That had thrown every wolf pack in town for a loop. No one knew how it came to be that five of the Mikaelson siblings were vampires while Freya was a witch and that was the way it stayed to this day. Freya being both a witch and a Mikaelson was a mystery then, and it was still a mystery now.
"Elijah said that I could go anywhere in the compound and the door was open so..." Hayley trailed off, not sure how to finish her sentence without rambling on for ages.
A chuckle escaped Freya's throat. "No need to explain," she said, pushing off from her place leaning against the door frame and making her way over to Hayley. "Elijah gave me the heads up before he had to leave to take care of a few things."
"He's not here?" Hayley asked, starting to feel uneasy when Freya confirmed that Elijah was in fact MIA at the moment. "What about your other brother?"
Hayley sure hoped that Freya would say he wasn't there either. It wasn't that she was afraid of Klaus because she wasn't. She just didn't trust him around her without Elijah there as well.
Freya shook her head no and smiled. "It's just us girls here right now."
Hayley sighed a breath of relief and smiled at that information.
"Elijah asked me to keep you company while he is away," Freya informed her as she stood a few feet away from her.
"I do not mind being by myself," Hayley said as she suddenly remembered that it was one of Freya's spells that allowed Klaus to enter her apartment and that it was also one of Freya's spells keeping her magically locked in the compound.
Freya sighed, picking up quickly on the change of Hayley's mood. "I know I'm probably not your most favorite person right now," Freya said, stating the obvious.
An evil sounding chuckle ripped itself from Hayley's throat. "You've got that right."
"I know an apology won't do much to change the truth, but for what it may be worth, I truly am sorry that I had to do both spells," Freya replied genuinely, making her way over to the couch and sitting down.
Hayley's mood softened a little as she realized that Freya was telling the truth.
"If that is the case, why did you do them?" Hayley asked out of curiosity, moving closer to where Freya was sitting.
"I'm willing to bet that you're not familiar with the story of me?" Freya stated more so than asked a question, glancing up at Hayley.
Hayley nodded. "I don't know anything about you except that you're a Mikaelson and a witch," Hayley admitted.
"It's a long story that I won't get into right now, but long story short..." Freya trailed off momentarily, trying to figure out how to explain the situation in the least amount of words. "Long story short, I was separated from my siblings a very long time ago...before most of them were even born and just recently I was reunited with them. Then, all of a sudden, Rebekah gets taken and all I want is to have her back so when Klaus came to me with his plan..." Freya trailed off, turning her head away trying to hide the guilt on her face. "I didn't think twice about it until it was already too late," Freya finished a moment or two later, her guilt clear in her tone of voice.
Hayley wanted to stay angry with her, but after hearing that...the short version of the story of Freya...Hayley felt bad for her. She, herself, only had an older brother and he was always around throughout her life, Hayley could only imagine how much it would pain her if she was ever separated from him for as long as Freya was separated from her siblings.
Not only that, Hayley could relate to how guilty Freya was feeling. If anything, Hayley felt twice the guilt than she felt before talking to Freya. How was she honestly supposed to stay angry at Freya for what she did when she had done something just as bad, if not worse.? They both had every right to be mad at each other. The only difference was that Freya didn't know she had the right to be mad at Hayley. Therefore, Hayley didn't feel right staying mad at Freya when Freya couldn't rightly feel angry at her as well.
In order to push her guilt to the backburner for now, Hayley started thinking about the first part of what Freya said and added it together with what little she had known before now.
"Wait a second," Hayley said, her voice revealing her confusion. "If your siblings are thousand year old vampires and you're a witch...you said you were the oldest of all of you...but how are you still so young?" Hayley asked suddenly confused as she tried to wrap her head around what Freya told her and what she'd taken from all of it.
"That would be getting into the long version," Freya answered, following up her answer with a small laugh. "We will save that version for another time and place."
Hayley sighed, leaning back against the couch. "Hopefully that time and place will be in a few days and not here."
"I can't promise that," Freya told her honestly, positioning herself on the couch so that she was turned towards Hayley. "When you get to go free again depends on when we get our sister back."
A pang of guilt suddenly hit Hayley again and she winced, covering it up with a very loud, fake cough. This was torture for her. She was almost regretting ever asking if she could take a shower, which was what had lead to Elijah telling her she could roam the compound. Hayley never thought she'd ever see the day that being locked in a room was the better option than being able to roam freely. But that's exactly what she was seeing now.
To distract herself, Hayley decided to change the subject to something lighter.
"So how do you keep yourself busy around here?" she asked, hoping that Freya could provide her the distraction she craved now. "Surely, there has to be something to do around here other than spells and supernatural crap."
Freya chuckled. "Unlike my brothers, I take full advantage of living in the 21st century."
Hayley's eyes lit up like a Christmas tree. "Tell me you have Netflix!" she exclaimed, sitting up. "For the love of God, please tell me that you have Netflix."
"Who doesn't these days?" Freya asked rhetorically.
"Oh thank god! Yes!" She smiled. For the first time since yesterday afternoon, Hayley was at total ease. "So what do you prefer to watch? Tv shows or movies?"
Freya shrugged. "I'm not picky," she admitted.
"I have much to introduce you to," Hayley told her. "But first...where is the kitchen at?" she asked, standing up quickly.
Freya followed her action, raising a quizzical eyebrow. "Didn't you eat breakfast not even an hour ago?"
Hayley laughed. "I'm a werewolf," she answered simply as if Freya was supposed to know exactly how that was a good answer to her question. "I have a high metabolism and eat more than most girls my age," she explained after realizing that her answer wasn't clicking for Freya. "So where is the kitchen?"

Later that afternoon, Hayley and Freya were watching Season 2 of Parks and Recreation when Elijah returned to the compound. The sound of laughter had been the only thing he'd heard when he entered the compound. He followed the laughter up to Freya's room where he found her and Hayley lounging on her bed, watching tv and eating popcorn.
"I see that you two have met," Elijah spoke up from where he stood in the doorway, causing both girls to jump. "And have hit it off fairly quick."
Hayley looked up at him and smiled.
"Hey, Elijah," Freya greeted him, pausing the tv before leaning up and resting her body weight on her forearms. "You told me to keep Hayley company. That is exactly what I have been doing."
"I can see that," Elijah said, looking from her to Hayley and then back to her.
"Did you take care of the things that you needed to?" Hayley asked, making small talk with him as she sat up and pulled her legs in closer to her, wrapping her arms around them and then resting her chin on her knees.
Elijah didn't answer her question right away. He looked at Freya first, something that Hayley did not fail to notice. They seemed to have a quick and silent conversation before he looked back at her again.
"For the most part," he answered simply.
Hayley stared at him, wondering what he was not telling her. That look and silent conversation between him and Freya wasn't for nothing. There was something he was keeping from her. Freya, too, for that matter. Hayley decided that she would leave it alone for now. She would try to pry more information from them both separately, she'd probably find out more that way.
"That's good," Hayley replied, keeping it simple as well.
A moment of silence tore through the room before Elijah broke it.
"Well, if either of you need me for anything, I will be right down the hall."
"Noted," Hayley said as she laid back down and positioned herself so that she was comfortable again. "See you later."
Elijah eyed her curiously for a moment before glancing over at Freya one last time before turning and exiting the room. Hayley secretly watched him leave out of the corner of her eye. Her mind was still racing, wondering what he was hiding from her. In most cases, she wouldn't have cared what was being kept from her, but that silent conversation that Elijah just had with Freya wasn't something she could ignore. She would have to come up with a way to find out.
It didn't take long for Hayley to concoct an inkling of a plan. Next time Elijah was out and it was just her and Freya in the compound, she would try to get something out of Freya. Their friendship of sorts was only hours old, but Freya had been willing to tell Hayley the short version of her story only minutes after meeting her. Hayley hoped that for that exact reason, Freya wouldn't mind filling her in on some other things as well when she asked.
