'John Wick: Chapter 4' Movie Review
"A sequel that actually manages to top the previous films" Check our #JohnWick4 Movie Review @studiocanalaus
Chad Stahelski’s John Wick movies are the action epics made to top all action epics. After three entries, each upping the violent ante, can the fourth actually raise the game? After his fall from the roof of the Continental and his falling out with the High Table, John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is in hiding with the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne). Meanwhile, Winston Scott (Ian McShane) has his…

"𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧'𝗦 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘 𝗚𝗢𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗗𝗢 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗜𝗧?: 𝟰💍/ 𝟱 🎬 𝗦𝗬𝗡𝗢𝗣𝗦𝗜𝗦 & 😎 𝗡𝗢𝗡-𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗟𝗘𝗥 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪 🎬: When a UK-born oncologist of Pakistani descent, Kazim [Shazad Latif], decides to get married by the traditional 'parent-assisted' method, his shocked close friend/girl-next-door, Zoe [Lily James], decides to make a documentary about the entire process. Trying to be impartial, Zoe looks at both the positives & negatives; will Kazim & his family be happy with the final cut? 😎: After initially being shocked at Kazim's decision, Zoe sees an opportunity to make a 'Love Contractually' documentary when her producers reject the 1st idea that she had pitched to them. During the process, Zoe interviews Kazim's parents & family, all of whom chose the traditional option for marriage - with the exception of Kazim's sister, Jamila, whom Zoe was close to when they were younger but now the family had shunned after Yasmin had married for love. Ironically, Zoe is very fussy with her choice of partners & fills her need for intimacy with one-night-stands & men that treat her poorly. She is totally baffled by Kazim's choice to skip the whole dating process, as he just wants to settle down & start a family. Even the vet, James [Oliver Chris], whom her mum, Cath [Emma Thompson], sets Zoe up with is a nice guy, but she invariably finds fault with him & their 'everything is fine' relationship fails. Emma Thompson is outstanding as Cath, the quirky yet well-intentioned next-door neighbour & mum to Zoe. Writer Jemima Khan [pictured] & director Shekhar Kapur have created a hilarious & thought-provoking story about the clash between Western & traditional Asian perspectives of love & marriage. 💍 Unless you have directly grown up with this kind of familial pressure, some of the important points won't resonate & it shows in the critics' & audience's reviews. Nonetheless, the film is an accurate account of modern Asian family life & values as immigrants struggle to maintain their own culture in a Western environment. 💍 Thanks to @studiocanalaus; "What's Love Got To Do With It?" rated 𝗠, opened in 🇦🇺 cinemas on January 26th, 2023. ©️ (at What's love got to do with it?) https://www.instagram.com/p/CobyaZPvFAu/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

'𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗙𝗔𝗕𝗘𝗟𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗦': 𝟰🎥 / 𝟱 𝟮𝘅 𝗚𝗢𝗟𝗗𝗘𝗡 𝗚𝗟𝗢𝗕𝗘 𝗪𝗜𝗡𝗡𝗘𝗥 ◽ 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗶𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗗𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗮 ◽ 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿, 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗶𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 🎬: In 1952, 7yo Sammy Fabelman is convinced by his parents, Mitzi [Michelle Williams] & Burt [Paul Dano], to see Cecil B. DeMille's Oscar-winning movie, 'The Greatest Show on Earth.' Obsessed with a scene where a train crashes into a car, Sammy tries to replicate it using his own train set but damages the precision toys, much to his dad's chagrin. With an encouraging mum, Sammy discovers a passion for making home movies after she lets him 'borrow' his dad's 8mm camera. As he grows older, Sammy's filmmaking skills increase exponentially despite the many life & family challenges that he faces. Is there a limit to his creative genius? 😎: Sammy's creative projects become increasingly ambitious as he is inspired by more iconic movies. Initially using his sisters as the subjects of his films, he moves on to his boy scout troupe as the size & scope of his projects increase in complexity. However, his ability to incorporate scientific thinking into his artistic design, skills that he innately gained from both his parents, who are very different, is what elevates his filmmaking to a new level. But, his discovery of a life-altering secret, that was hidden in plain sight, puts a strain on his family & eventually influences his decisions. A semi-autobiographical tale loosely based on his adolescent life & early fascination with film, director Steven Spielberg uses Sammy [Gabriel LaBelle] to explain how he, himself, went from being an aspiring filmmaker to discovering the power of film as both a means of understanding & recording events [no matter how amusing or traumatic] that go on around him. Michelle Williams is fantastic as the quirky yet creative Mitzi, while Paul Dano's portrayal as the scientifically-gifted yet introverted Burt puts the parents at odds; they may be in love but are they compatible? The answer has significant bearing on the conclusion. Thanks to @studiocanalaus; 'The Fabelmans,' rated 𝗠, opened in 🇦🇺 on January 5th, 2023. ©️ (at Regent Theatre Te Awamutu) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnTBJ-qvpDn/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

'𝗢𝗥𝗣𝗛𝗔𝗡: 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧 𝗞𝗜𝗟𝗟' 🎬 𝗦𝗬𝗡𝗢𝗣𝗦𝗜𝗦 & 😎 𝗡𝗢𝗡-𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗟𝗘𝗥 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪: 🎬: Leena Klammer, a 31yo highly-manipulative & sociopathic psychiatric patient, kills several people in 2007 while escaping from the Saarne Institute psychiatric facility in Estonia. Diagnosed with hypopituitarism, a rare hormonal disorder that gives her the appearance of a 9yo child, Leena assumes the identity of missing American heiress Esther Albright, who went missing in 2003. Now ‘reunited’ with the Albrights, who are happy to have their youngest child returned to them after 4 long years, the high-profile family have their own secrets & the matriarch, Tricia Albright [Julia Stiles], will stop at nothing to keep one particular secret hidden forever. As a dangerous game of cat-&-mouse develops between mother & ‘daughter,’ is there any chance that this will not turn into a bloodbath? 😎: The success of the original 2009 film, ‘Orphan,’ stems from the perfect casting of Isabelle Fuhrman as the lead antagonist & her ability to elicit fear in the audience by violently tapping into the Damien Thorne ‘son of Satan’ tropes 1st seen in the 1976 cult horror, ‘The Omen.’ Small in stature, but dangerously large in diabolical intent, Leena Klammer/Esther Albright is deceptively innocent-looking because of her hypopituitarism, which she uses to great advantage. However, her penchant for becoming sexually-obsessed with her ‘father’ figures is always the catalyst for her psychological unravelling. Julia Stiles is equally unsettling in her role of Albright family matriarch, Tricia. Obsessed with appearances, her family were one of the original US settlers, having come over on the ‘Mayflower’ in 1620. Exceedingly wealthy, Tricia is incredibly calm in even the most harrowing of situations to the point of being stoically aloof. 🔪🔪 One could only imagine how dangerous Tricia & Leena could be if they worked together rather than being at odds with each other. Watching 2 sociopaths trying to kill each other is very entertaining, though. 🔪🔪 Thanks to @studiocanalaus; 'Orphan: First Kill,' rated 𝗠𝗔𝟭𝟱+, opened in 🇦🇺 cinemas on September 1st, 2022. ©️ (at Orphan) https://www.instagram.com/p/CiHjwvzP_B3/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

'𝗕𝗢𝗠𝗕𝗦𝗛𝗘𝗟𝗟': 𝟴🤬 / 𝟭𝟬 📽️ 𝗦𝗬𝗡𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗜𝗦 & 😎 𝗡𝗢𝗡-𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗟𝗘𝗥 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪 📽️: In this account of the toxic environment at Fox News headed by Roger Ailes [John Lithgow] from 1996 to 2016, a group of current & former female staffers at various levels finally bring down one the most powerful men in news media for what he had done. 😎: Roger Ailes, the founder of Fox News in 1996, arguably became the Republican Party's de facto leader by controlling the media rhetoric. Ailes introduced the idea of glass desks for televised shows & required the on-air female talent to wear short outfits so that specialised 'leg-cams' could linger on them to hold the male audience's attention - regardless of the journalistic talent that the female hosts had. Ailes' sexual harassment & pervasive abuse of power of his female staff is absolutely disgraceful - yet remained unpunished. Despite finally being forced to leave Fox News, he was paid out more than all his victims combined & yet he never faced any criminal charges before his death in 2017. Ailes' toxicity has now been well-documented & this somewhat fictionalised account hasn't received as much critical acclaim as the 7-part series, 'The Loudest Voice,' starring Russell Crowe. However, the depictions of the network's most powerful anchor, Megyn Kelly [Charlize Theron], the former co-host of 'Fox & Friends,' Gretchen Carlson [Nicole Kidman], & young yet ambitious conservative reporter, Kayla Popisil [Margot Robbie], are executed to near perfection by the actresses involved. 🎭🎭🎭 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗼 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲 & 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗴𝘆𝗻 𝗞𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹. ‘𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗨𝗡𝗕𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗕𝗟𝗘 𝗪𝗘𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗢𝗙 𝗠𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗧𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗡𝗧’: 𝟰🤣/𝟱 🎬 𝗦𝗬𝗡𝗢𝗣𝗦𝗜𝗦 & 😎 𝗡𝗢𝗡-𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗟𝗘𝗥 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪 🎬: Nick Cage [Nicolas Cage], a former Hollywood A-lister, now faces financial ruin; begrudgingly, he accepts a $1M offer through his agent, Richard Fink [Neil Patrick Harris], to attend the birthday party in Majorca of a super fan, wealthy playboy Javi Gutierrez [Pedro Pascal]. When Cage is approached by the CIA, after suspecting that Javi is involved in illegal arms-dealing & the possible kidnapping of the Catalonian President’s daughter, can Cage take on the role of a lifetime, by utilising his most iconic on-screen characters, to find the truth? 😎: This enjoyable parody has not just one but 2 Cages at the same time: Nicolas Cage playing the somewhat fictional Nick Cage & Nicolas Kim Coppola [ie the actor’s real name] playing Nicky, his much younger alter-ego from when he made ‘Wild At Heart.’ The very entitled Nicky constantly reminds Cage that he's a famous movie star. In a tongue-in-cheek tribute to his own legend, the story is packed with Easter eggs from more than a dozen of Cage’s films & part of the fun is spotting/recognising what characters/movies have been thrown into the mix. Cage has a strained relationship with both his ex-wife, Olivia [Sharon Horgan], & daughter, Addy [Lily Sheen], both of whom believe that he's very narcissistic. The scene where he crashes Addy's birthday party, to play her a song in front of all her friends, proves his sense of self-importance. Ultimately [& it does take a long time for him to realise this], one of the things that Cage craves the most is the closeness that he once had with Addy. There’s a fine line between self-deprecation & self-appreciation in this hilarious journey of finding oneself. Despite Cage’s talent, seen in his ‘Leaving Las Vegas’ Oscar-winning role & more recently in ‘Pig,’ there are a lot of questionable roles that he has taken, too. The fact that he's willing to poke fun at himself is an impressive quality. Thanks to @studiocanalaus; ‘The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent,’ rated 𝗠, is in 🇦🇺 cinemas from 21st April, 2022. ©️ (at Nicolas Cage Movies) https://www.instagram.com/p/CdEjuGOvDZt/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

'𝗔 𝗕𝗢𝗬 𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗗 𝗖𝗛𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗠𝗔𝗦' 🎬 𝗦𝗬𝗡𝗢𝗣𝗦𝗜𝗦 & 😎 𝗡𝗢𝗡-𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗟𝗘𝗥 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪: 🎬: When the elderly aunt of 3 kids is asked to babysit on Xmas Eve because the kids' dad has to work, she discovers that the family are not celebrating Xmas this year after the death of the kids' mum. To boost their spirits, Aunt Ruth [Maggie Smith] tells the kids a story about Nikolas 'Christmas' [Henry Lawfull], a young boy who like them had lost his mum, & his quest with the help of a talking mouse & a wounded yet headstrong reindeer to fulfill his King's wish to find an object that would bring hope to his kingdom. Will her story make a difference to help them celebrate Christmas through this difficult time? 😎: Steering away from the Christian beliefs around Xmas, this Nordic origin story for Father Christmas allows the viewer to see who he was, where he came from & how he came to be the lovable character whom both kids & adults alike have deep affection for. The ensemble cast work well together headed by Henry Lawfull, the impressive young English actor, in his first major feature film role. Maggie Smith, Jim Broadbent & the always impressive Sally Hawkins only add to writer Matt Haig's fable-esque tale with Oscar nominated director Gil Kenan, better known for films in the horror/thriller genres, successfully crossing the bridge into Fantasy/Adventure. '𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗥𝗔𝗟: 𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞 𝗢𝗙 𝗦𝗔𝗪' 𝗜𝗦 𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗡𝗢𝗪 𝗢𝗡 𝗕𝗟𝗨𝗥𝗔𝗬 & 𝗗𝗩𝗗 🎬 𝗦𝗬𝗡𝗢𝗣𝗦𝗜𝗦 & 😎 𝗡𝗢𝗡-𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗟𝗘𝗥 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪: 🎬: When a corrupt cop is abducted & left dangling by his tongue in an underground train tunnel, the abductor [wearing a pig's head] gives him the option of ripping out his tongue [as punishment for all the people he had falsely convicted by lying in court] in order to survive or perish by the oncoming train. Things don't end well. As more police are abducted & face similar fates to make amends for their past corrupt actions, lead detective Zeke Banks [Chris Rock], Captain Angie Garza [Marisol Nichols] & their task force struggle with the prospect that the now deceased 'Jigsaw' killer may have a new apprentice in play. 😎: Playing a game of cat & mouse with the police, the apprentice/copycat leaves clues by painting a spiral at each crime scene. As wth the other 8 movies in the 'Saw' franchise, the clues may appear cryptic at 1st glance but are more obvious in hindsight. Despite being the son of former Police Chief Marcus Banks [Samuel L. Jackson], Zeke Banks has internal problems with his own police department after turning in his former partner years earlier for killing an unarmed witness who was willing to provide evidence on another corrupt cop. Later, when Zeke called for help whilst chasing an assailant, he was abandoned by his squad as punishment for turning on one of his own & was subsequently shot when he had no police backup. Fans of the franchise will be pleased with the twists & turns as the 'Spiral' killer taunts the corrupt police force prey. The revelation of the killer's identity may be a shock to some, but is quite obvious to seasoned aficionados who will recognise the clever play on words in the clues. 🩸🗜️🩸 Director Darren Lynn Bousman ['Saw II - IV'] does well to breathe life into this pioneering 'torture porn' franchise & continues to be inventive with how each victim meets their gruesome fate. 🩸🗜️🩸 Thanks to @ownyourkicksau & @studiocanalaus; 'Spiral: From the Book of Saw,' rated 𝗥𝟭𝟴+, is available in 🇦🇺 on BluRay & DVD from August 25th, 2021. ©️ #ad (at Spiral) https://www.instagram.com/p/CTegu1ivH81/?utm_medium=tumblr
