But I highly recommend you that the Gorgon Sisters are your friendly monsters, but evil witches or we prefer them criminals that wanted to scorch the planet.

Kimial Diehl : The Gorgon Sisters were your relative's oldest enemies in the book, they've been gone in the past after they were attempting to put the end of the legacy created by the boy, the boy who goes by the name Shinra Kusakabe.

Ashley : Shinra Kusakabe...?

Jacqueline : I haven't heard about that guy's name. Who was Shinra Kusakabe anyway?

Ashley : Who is he anyway?

Kimial Diehl : He was the first hero of the Ohkuboverse, the one responsible for creating the world and story of Soul Eater, he would presume that Nevada would be the perfect place for to protect legacy, but I don't understand why does the Gorgon Sisters wanted to Shinra's reputation?

Maka...Where have I heard that name before? It sounds like she was picked on by others and was the child that no one wanted.

Ashley : We'll see how that works in the end. We will be beginning our assignment since the family trio of three witches had been escaped from the coffins at the old state house.

Kimial : Of course, I know those guys. They've been wreaking havoc on the planet for centuries or years before we even met them. They've should've been dead by now.

Ashley : Not dead, but hiding in darkness. With the Phantoms of Society taking care of these messes, our people will put an end to ordeal with the heartless.

Kimial : Heartless. Those guys again, why did they come back after they were easily handed by that Keyblade wielding kid...Sora. I wonder if he could he meet Maka Albarn...She'll definitely be safer from those guys, but what does being a hero have something to do with someone greater than before? It's hardly a fact that this is only the beginning.

Upcoming Magical Girl Projects

Magical girl fans are finally eating good after years of starvation. So good, in fact, that I decided to make a list of magical girl projects in development. This is a continually updating list - all series that have since been released can be found here.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie - Walpurgisnacht Rising - The fourth PMMM movie, which will pick up where Rebellion's massive cliffhanger left off. While originally slated for late 2024, it has since been delayed to 2025.

Maebashi Witches - A TV original production by Sunrise, Maebashi Witches is a coming of age story focused on a quintet of high schoolers who are approached by a strange and mysterious frog named Keroppe, who recruits them to become the titular group. Now working in a magical flower shop, the girls use the "Witchverse" pocket dimension to grant people's wishes with the power of song and dance. Has the same writer as Bocchi the Rock (Erika Yoshida) and is premiering April 6, 2025.

Princession Orchestra - A TV original coming in spring 2025, Princession Orchestra is based on a concept by Akifumi Kaneko, one of Symphogear's co-creators. The land of Alicepia's peace is destroyed when monsters called Jammerwocks attack, prompting a trio of young girls to step up the plate to protect the realm.

Winx Club - The western magical girl classic is getting a CGI reboot. While comments by Iginio Straffi imply that certain characters who were introduced later in the original series (such as Roxy and Nabu) will appear earlier, no specific plot details have been revealed so far. The series is coming to Netflix late 2025.

New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt - Panty & Stocking is getting a second season after over a decade that's coming out sometime in 2025. A teaser trailer confirmed the OG voice cast's return and announced the production staff, but plot details are still unclear.

Magilumiere Magical Girls Inc. season two - Magilumiere is getting a second season, which was announced after the broadcast of season one's finale. No other details have been revealed.

Petitcure ~Precure Fairies~ - A Precure spinoff focusing on the franchise's various mascots is coming. It's a series of dialogue-less shorts that will be released weekly on YouTube starting on April 3.

Untitled Symphogear movie - A new Symphogear movie was announced in late 2023. However, no further details have been revealed.

Hua Xianzi: Zhi Mofa Xiang Dui Lun - A co-production between Tencent Video and Toei Animation's Shanghai branch, this anime is being billed as a "remake" of Lunlun the Flower Fairy. The heroine is Rumi, an apprentice at a homemade perfume studio who awakens as a Flower Child due to the power of a family heirloom. She's tasked with collecting and purifying the Rainbow Flower's scattered petals, only to clash with another Flower Child along the way and discover the surprising past of her feline mentor/sidekick.

Maho no Shimai Lulutto Lily - Studio Pierrot, which has made a variety of magical girl anime from TV originals like Creamy Mami to adaptations such as Tokyo Mew Mew, has announced that they're creating a new TV original magical girl anime. No specific plot details have been disclosed, but the caption for the teaser image ("I want you to sing once more...") implies that it'll be a magical idol anime. In March, the title was revealed, with the rough (and unofficial) romanization being Magical Sisters Lulutto Lily. The only revealed characters are a duo of cat mascots, Uguisu and Azuki.

Lolirock season three - After Lolirock's second season ended with a cliffhanger all the way back in 2017, it seemed like the story would never get a proper conclusion. However, the series's creator and director, Jean-Louis Vandestoc, announced on his Instagram in 2023 that creative meetings for a third season have begun.

Magic Knight Rayearth revival - TMS Entertainment is making a new Magic Knight Rayearth anime in honor of the franchise's 30th anniversary. Unfortunately, it's currently unknown what the format will be.

Cute High Earth Defense Club Haikara! - Hot on the heels of the franchise's 10th anniversary movie, Cute High Earth Defense Club is getting a new anime series. Besides Shinji Takamatsu directing the series like he did with the movie and the first three seasons, no concrete details have been revealed.

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance - A new installment in the seminal Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha franchise, this will be a new TV anime to celebrate the series's 20th anniversary. No other details are confirmed, but it will presumably be connected to the upcoming EXCEEDS manga that will begin in 2025.

Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card season two - The sequel to the magical girl classic is getting a second season that will adapt the rest of the manga.

Magical Girl holoWitches - A multimedia project starring six VTubers as fictionalized versions of themselves who work as both streamers and magical girls who save people when they get trapped in the magical Holocas World. There was a four minute extended trailer in May 2024, but the anime's proper premiere date is unknown.

New Ojamajo Doremi thing - As part of the celebrations for the franchise's 25th anniversary, Toei Animation released two new music videos for the series' 1st OP and 4th ED with the promise that a new project will be made if the videos reach a combined 5 million views. This goal has since been met. Due to the girls being adults in the videos, the new project will presumably be an adaptation of the Ojamajo Doremi 16-20's sequel series of light novels.

News - Gkids has announced they've been acquired by Japanese company Toho Co Ltd. According to their press release, Toho will own 100% of the company now, to be operated under CEO and GKids founder Eric Beckman and President Dave Jesteadt. Toho currently owns the rights to Godzilla properties, many Tokusatsu and Kaiju works, Japanese studio Science Saru, and distributes the works of Studio Ghibli, TMS Entertainment, and Akira Korisawa. Gkids has stated that no changes will be made to their staff or how they run the company, and that this buy-out will lead to more opportunities for them. I guess we'll see what the future holds!

and it is so... utterly draining when i see a thousand and one opinions on the AI miyazaki generator that focus on the iconography or ethics of his works and i just keep thinking about how many japanese hands made western animation possible. rankin-bass stop motion was animated in japan. ralph bakshi's tolkein adaptations and the last unicorn were animated by the animators who would form studio ghibli. inspector gadget, rainbow brite, the adventures of sonic the hedgehog, batman: the animated series, gargoyles, ducktales, the animaniacs are ALL from tms entertainment's contract work. i definitely see the AI generator as an attack on an artist who has expressed only disdain for the concept, but also, japanese animators have been generating your art on both sides of the pacific for longer than most of the people on tumblr have been alive. are you actually upset about exploitation of japanese arts or do you just have proximity to the current topic?

in fact actually now I want to tell you about it so

I was envisioning a sort of enemies to taskmaster teammates to lovers thing, like they are in the same circles (britcom is a small world) but they have petty grudges against each other for some reason

and then they get scheduled for the same series of taskmaster and put on a team together and have to learn to work together and the sexual tension and frustration is palpable

maybe dan leaves the filming days HATING phil for not following the Rules and taking The Logical Approach but it turns out in studio that phil is very good at sweet talking the taskmaster/his unconventional approaches are clever, persuasive, and generally work out well for him

and so in studio dan catches himself agreeing with phil, arguing for phil, etc, and telling himself it's to get himself more points but eventually he just realizes he LIKES PHIL

and like. I would love to do this with actual tasks from the series, cherry pick the ones that would be fun to make Dan and Phil do in a fic, how fun would that be

Blair : So let me get this straight. *a thinking cloud appears* Maka Albarn wasn't really born earth. before she was born earth, her mother was taken by her "other" father and was given a fake birth certificate to think she was born in Nevada. But that certificate was clearly a fake, the real one is about her birthplace being Nevada or Tokyo, but it comes down to a sudden fruition that she was not born on the planets, but was born Jupiter's moon ganymede?

Kimial Diehl : So all this means that Maka Albarn wasn't born in a fictional city at all, she was born on...the Moon. [the word "Moon" is echoed]

*camera shifts forward into Sonic*

Sonic : The Moon?

Tails : Hey, Sonic? What's the matter?

Sonic : I sensed something that someone said about a girl being born on...the moon.

*flashback to three years ago*

Sonic : The Moon. Eggman blasted the Mobius's moon and I realized that there were two moons at mobius. Eggman blasted one of them, but he didn't blasted the other one.

*DBZ SFX : ENERGY BLAST+LOUD EXPLOSIONS*

Sonic : Yeah, that was the same moon that Eggman shot. He blew it up just for the sake of the empire! How can I forget that?

*flashes back to the present*

Sonic : However, it was mysteriously by the powers of the Lunar goddess and I know who did it. It was the powers of some kind of deity that has the ability to restore the moon. And I have no idea who recreated the moon and restore back to normal.

Tails : The power of the Chaos Emeralds Energy thought that destroying the moon would be a serious threat. But eventually, the moon was restored by mysterious powers. Someone used and had to piece it back together.

Sonic : This never happened before, when the power of the Emeralds had gone too far, but if the Emerlads powers would destroy Mobius, The End itself would not be seeing the ancients again.

Tails : The Ancients. They are relatives that are some how connected to Chaos' past or something. They're the one who brought the emeralds to Mobius after the loss of their homeworld to The End itself. Your ancestral father, Grim, was keeping an eye on Mobius to make sure that the planet would never get to be destroyed.

Sonic : So...What you're saying is. Grim, was observing Mobius the entire time and he had monitored everything in this situation, He discovered that the disaster that unleashed Dark Gaia was caused by The End, Knucles' People enraged Chaos to destroy them and the world, the Space Colony Ark Incident, and of course, Metal Sonic invaded his property that was Hang Castle. Oh man, Tails. I was right about this, Can't believe these villains that I faced with had been trying to get away with murder the entire time? This never happened ain't it? Why did I even think that the villains that I have faced are trying to get away with murder?

Grim the Hedgehog (Metal Sonic) : Because they are sinners, Sonic. And sinners that those who committed must be punished at all costs and given their selves with eternal damnation.

The Disaster that broke Planet Mobius into unleashing Dark Gaia, Perfect Chaos enraged by the foolish Pachacamac, The Ark's massacre was caused by the faulst of Gerald and Black Doom was such unforgivable to Shadow. And even of course, the Gizoid Emerl, was too much to be a sinner or even those who is a omnicider.

Sonic : Emerl? You mean that Gizoid I befriended with? But he's dead, I mercifully had to kill him with my own hands. Isn't that homicidal on robots that were bent on death and destruction? What's the deal with you, Grim. Why do you gotta be the Death God of our world?

Grim the Hedgehog (Meta Sonic) : The only reason that apprieciation of the Gods did me a favor. These so called gods were only a matter of time before they were all destroyed by your braver and valorous efforts. But Illumina, the Angelic Goddess gave me a favor on keeping me in charge of Mobius's observation. Those who wanted used the powers of the emerald can do it for The End itself the same way that your arch nemesis tried so many attempts to make empire. So with that in order and to put an end to Mobius's madness, All of those in your world...shall never be forgiven and those who committed a sin...will be punished with eternal damnation!

Sonic : Say what?

Grim the Hedgehog (Metal Sonic) : Nevermind me. Come! We must to get the Earth's real moon immediately. I bet It's something amazes me that I finally discovered that Maka is at another sanctuary located on the moon, where a Lunar Base is located.

Sonic : that's what they're at? In any case, Tails. Come on! We gotta get to the Moon! They're at the sacntuary!

Shadow : I'll lend you out this with this one.

now that s17 is over, how did you like it? it feels like most people either thought it was mild or weak, which makes me sad, so i stopped going to the discussion threads about it :""( i also don't see much anticipation for s18...

aww anon well, first, if you had a good time then that's what matters! so i hope series 17 brought you a little joy each week, that's what panel shows are for in my humble opinion 😚

because i know i'm about to word vomit some word salad, i'll throw out some s17 reactions + s18 thoughts below the cut! that way anyone who is sick of my nonsense doesn't have to scroll past it lmaooo

series 17 was a decent one! i don't think it's in the hall of fame, but it's definitely nowhere near the couple of "unwatchables" as they're (pretty unfairly) called. i've talked before about one of the downfalls of a season is when a group doesn't harness their dynamic and take control of the show — when they're in the studio and just sit quietly, waiting for greg to give them permission to speak, things flow well for the editors but the experience lacks. this is why s1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, even 12 are so silly and chaotic: the contestants were constantly fighting, interrupting or pausing judging, trying to convince or gaslight or challenge greg, just...speaking! talking! interacting! if that doesn't happen, taskmaster can just feel like show and tell, which is not when it's at its best

ultimately, this is why too many polite and well-behaved people in a single series is a pleasant watch but doesn't hit very hard. this series was exceptionally nice, we have to admit. joanne followed by steve may have been the "hang on a second ☝️" contestants of the series, but not by a lot, meanwhile nick and sophie were the loveliest, pretty quiet people and john was dead silent most of the time. actually, that was something that ended up surprising me — john was so focused on the tasks, so focused on winning, most of the time he didn't pause to give significant, funny commentary while filming, didn't give us *nearly* the banter with alex i anticipated, and was particularly quiet in the studio. i knew he'd be in it to win it, don't get me wrong, but he approached taskmaster more as a richard herring than an ed gamble, if you know what i mean. it was very funny to me when he was on the tm podcast and was more or less like "i know i didn't prioritise being entertaining" lmao that earnestness can be sweet, because i do like to watch the show imagining how i would do each task, but his ~no nonsense~ approach was turned up to 11 for a lot more of the series than i anticipated. i almost wish john had leaned a little more into his self-aware neuroticism and competitiveness just because that's generally a good character on taskmaster — and this series was definitely missing that

(you know, talking about this really reinforces my belief that kerry godliman is perhaps the most perfect taskmaster contestant...ever. competitive, no nonsense and full of nonsense, top bantz, stands up for herself and tears down others but fights without being genuinely angry or butthurt, doesn't know enough to try and figure out a workaround for every single task, loves and bullies alex in equal measure... just love the woman. love her. fuck it, same for jess knappett. i miss my girls😭 this is ALSO why i think rosie is a great fit for tm)

anywayz i haven't read mucho mucho discourse about series 17, but it wouldn't surprise me if that's the vague "criticism" people: just more lowkey vibes than other series. but some people prefer that, so..!!!

i think, too, too many people look back at series 1–...7? at least and want to see the same greg–alex dynamic, approach to the prize tasks, approach to scoring, lil tricks, what have you — and that is not gonna happen again. ever. for example, greg and alex have talked too many times about how hard they try to score things "fairly" because that's become such a big point of conversation for the viewers at home and, atp, even the contestants. personally, i don't prefer that. fuck fair! this is not a real competition it's an entertainment show!! when greg was throwing out points willy nilly, bonus points for eating hair, giving 5 points to a prize just bc it's his personal sense of humour and ranking another contestant's prize low every week just bc that's a funny recurring joke/dynamic, whatever. i do not care. give phil wang 1 point every time. points schmoints. but that cannot happen anymore because the viewers starting taking the points so darn seriously. (not to mention the opportunity to do coc is now pretty coveted for its $$$ and exposure, too, i'd imagine.) the same goes for greg leaning into his dictator role, the master/slave relationship between him and alex, alex being super stoic and quiet — not only does tm think those characters and dynamics are played out, but in some ways the audience has evolved beyond all that

my point is that people get caught up in the Old Gen Taskmaster that hooked them and can't accept the ways in which the show has evolved — even if it's in their opinion for worse. do i think it would kill taskmaster to go back to slightly less convoluted tasks and commit to the 1–5 point system instead of constant ties (or "this was a 3-point effort")? no. i would like to see that lmao but i don't view the series through the lens of a series 1 fan anymore, either. a reality check would help a lot of complainers

i did read one thing i thought was interesting — that with the huge number of series we're at with tm uk, and now the accessibility of other countries' spin-offs, there is a bigger and bigger pool of God Tier Taskmaster to compare each new series to. it used to be "hmm does this new series stack up against series 4, one of the all-time greats?" but now we're stacking new series up against the top ~6 of tm uk, tm nz s2, a couple of the tm belgiums, tm aus s1, and so on. competition is stiff!! not many series can be The Very Best Of All Time, so with each new tm uk that isn't, people start to feel like the show has gone downhill when it probably is stagnant at worst. does that make sense?

i don't wanna sound like every criticism of tm can be explained away or comes from a bad place. as i've mentioned above, i have my qualms. this series, one of my major qualms and seriously unpopular opinions was that i didn't like that steve wasn't actually bringing in prizes half the time. like, he was doing bits and they were funny bits, but greg was scoring him mad high for the effort he put into his bits instead of the actual prizes he brought in for entry. i stand by that opinion, but the thing is i didn't let that ruin my experience of the show. but, maybe, it just comes down to the fact i want to like it...so i do ^^

maybe i talked way too much about criticism and negativity hahah some things i really enjoyed from this series:

nick is probably the second person following john kearns who i actively disliked before taskmaster specifically because i had only ever seen their comedy characters doing dictionary corner or a bit of standup — and i really didn't like them. (still never seen ted lasso!) lo and behold, they go on taskmaster and are S Tier Sweethearts and i see them both in totally new lights! in fact john's last standup show is being released shortly and i cannot wait to watch it — which me of the past would never believe i'm saying lmao so i'm so grateful the show opened my eyes to what a funny, sweet person nick is!! and may i say his and john's styles in the studio are massively underrated. they are both incredibly snazzy dressers!

steve and nick were a sweet little team weren't they! i think it would have been funnier to have john x sophie (the best and the worst, in their own ways) vs. the more harmonious steve x nick x sophie, but regardless it was very cute stuff

the location was great! i fucking love a big open field, i fucking love a river

greg has had some really strong intro "speeches" the last few series and i loved his this time around. they're just equal parts stupid and weird + his authoritative, classic greg delivery always makes me laugh heh

some of the strongest live tasks in a while!! catching the little monsters, passing the loo through the tube, bouncing the ball on the bar — all felt like quintessential uncomplicated classic taskmaster parlour games and they were good fun

regarding s18... it's an interesting lineup! in a good way!! i think rosie's character is more or less a perfect fit for the taskmaster format. obviously she is one of the biggest female comedians in the uk right now, but i didn't bet on her doing tm because i didn't think the show could commit to accommodating her disability for 10 episodes. and, frankly, they may not — and i guarantee she is completely okay with that. she was born from the rhod gilbert school of showing up to fuck around, and i sleep soundly knowing she will do just that. i really like jack dee and i'm happy for alex to have made it work with him. it typically wouldn't be my choice to have two senior comedian white men on one series, and (unpopularly?) i'm not really a zaltzman person, but i have no doubt he'll be quite charming. emma sidi is part of the alex horne bubble of friends i have mentioned a few times before, but i actually don't know much about her. babatunde feels like a sensible fresh pick since he's been doing more variety/panel shows; i don't watch him on googlebox (which i love) because i don't like mo gilligan (very unsorry about this opinion heh), but what i've seen of him i've enjoyed! i don't think the group's dynamic is obvious just from their list of names, but the fact they're all comedians is VERY promising and makes me supersupersuper happy — all comedian lineups are historically the strongest. so yay!! but can you imagine who will be on a team?? god imagine a jack x rosie team lmfaoooooooooooo i live for the thought
