got roped into dm-ing a campaign for my work friends (they were going to use chatgpt to dm if I didn’t volunteer, don’t even get me started) and I’m slightly fearful that these players are a lot less “let’s explore this rich world and solve the mysteries presented to us by the narrative” and a lot more “let’s kill a bunch of civilians because it’s Funny and we’re Men dar har har”

I was in a different campaign with a few of these people and it fell apart for various reasons, but during that campaign the dm was like “here’s a very obvious path to follow” and they were just like “I roll to set this merchant’s fish stand on fire”. And so they set the fish stand on fire

And like on one hand I don’t want to discourage them too much because everyone should play in the way that they find fun but also that was just like not fun for me at ALL so I’m struggling with how to find a balance here

Been kinda hyperfixated about our strixhaven campaign, we're in our third year and like session 32 and oh my god thingsTM have been happening so I've been drawing doodles here and there about my Paladin (which recently learned that, the hero she always loved since she was a kid, was one of her ancestors, and her souls lingers within her, and, my god. Our DM really cooked there).

It has basically become a shonen anime and I'm all in for it, which speaking of, I made a redraw based on a cutscene that happened like 2 sessions ago when the reveal said above was made (ref)

Strixhaven session 4- in which Murr attempts to become one with nature, Mint meets the local fashion students, Cirian runs into his awful older sister and makes enemies with Ava, Kenny and Hootian bond over shared bird-ness, Hahdrim attempts to use his psychic skills to absorb knowledge, and the group fights enchanted frogs.

One of my dnd players chose to work at the student newspaper in our Strixhaven campaign … obviously I had no choice but to make a new paper each week that is full of side quests, lore drops and teases at the plot. Only one player has caught on thus far and is now frantically rushing around campus looking for new papers each week.

For anyone wondering how my boring lawful good ass didn't get lawful good, don't worry. It was right around there.

if i get over my insecurities about my original content id love to run a ttrpg campaign set in bug world one day. it would be a quest-based style where players get to go on standalone quests, but the home base where they get their assignments would be my fey school with an overarching mystery plot there. i think it would be very fun :3c
