closed for @anunkindncss // kiss roulette, no. 11, a kiss to the neck
The clock was inching closer and closer to 7:30. Ida had to leave then if she wanted to be on time, but the idea of peeling herself from his bed became an impossible thought. Her first mistake had been staying the night. Still, his sheets were wrapped loosely around her bare shoulders. Legs rested on either side of his hips. "I need to go to work," she muttered. Lips pressed to his Lucas' before working her way across his jawline. She groaned softly against the skin of his neck before pressing her lips to the delicate skin. Ida did her best to keep her lips to his neck as she pushed the sheet off her shoulders and let it pool at her waist. "We're going to be late."

On the eleventh day of Writemas a writing prompt game hosted by agirlandherquill
you gave me prompts for suffering, erin (i think that's the name on your blog). so i have to warn all readers:
TORTURE WARNING. BLOOD WARNING.
"Card," tired Uchorian chef turned pirate, Ricey, makes a slow saunter into Earwyn's office carrying a tray of leftovers not releasing any steam or particular smell. "The cell's open."
Earwyn's hands stop in the middle of building a model airship, and he looks up with the chair shifting and creaking under him. "What cell?"
"The captive we took near the neutral zone. He's gone."
If Earwyn had any less self-control, the wooden piece in his hand would have snapped. He'd left the guy unbound and then docked at a port. A very busy port. He'd gotten played into thinking one threat made him harmless.
Fuck.
Earwyn practically jumped out of the chair to swish on a greatcoat and bound out the office door, leaving Ricey and the rest of the crew behind with orders to watch the port for signs of the lad if he turned up with interests to hike up an leave.
He figured the lad wouldn't go very far until he knew the Helios was long gone.
"Yay high," Earwyn pestered locals and merchants in Uchorian to anyone who spoke. "Brown hair. Decent dress?"
Somehow, that description worked. Probably because running from something invisible made you stand out, and the average streetman could care less about who came after.
Earwyn squinted up the tower and entered with an aching deliberance. He had a reputation to uphold.
No one leaves Dead Water.
Each step inside the large clock filled Earwyn with wasted time. He should've figured the lad that claimed to have invented a powerful and reliant energy source would be craftier than a few switched letters and self-defense daggers. That was on him, and it wouldn't happen again.
Around a good two dozen steps from the top, he heard shuffling on metal.
Rat in a trap.
Earwyn inched out a small blade from inside his coat and scanned the top of the platform. The clock ticked incessantly from within.
"This doesn't have to be so hard, lad," Earwyn sighs.
The clocktower answers, but the interpreter fellow does not. Which is enough for Earwyn to figure the lad thinks he's slick. He walks into the center of the platform. Earwyn's thought that before. Once thought he could jump at the slavemaster and break for it.
The scrape of shoe on metal sends Earwyn whipping around, catching the glinting hammer and grazing the short knife across the lad's face enough to send them staggering and tackled with a short yelp.
"Come back quietly now," Earwyn hisses, "and you'll be the only dog kicked for this."
That fear Earwyn had witnessed the other day—that was there and yet it was gone all at once. Here was someone that had been afraid so much they refused to be, yet knew they had to be.
Earwyn didn't have time to feel bad, and so he picked him up from the floor and stuffed a leather glove in his mouth from his greatcoat's pocket. Blood dribbled down his cheek like some screwed up tear.
Surprisingly, he didn't fight when Earwyn dragged him like a beat up drunkard down the streets. Didn't fight when Earwyn threw him on the deck and gagged and bound him proper.
"Privileged fucking Uchorians," Earwyn spat out in Eberinian.
The interpreter made a noise and Earwyn yanked harder on the rope while slamming his forehead into the deck.
"Captain," Earwyn blanked on the voice's identity and turned to stare. "Bad day?"
Rat tapped his cane on the deck. Earwyn flexed his fingers.
"Who are you mangling in front of all these people?"
Earwyn grumbled indistinctly and pulled the guy up by the collar. A small trickle of blood dripped down their chin, and a small wet smear of it was on one of the floorboards.
"Tell Boar to find an empty barrel, will ya?" Earwyn clicks his tongue a few times. "Tell him to fill it with seawater for me."
The first dunk was sloppy. Earwyn watched Gator lift the interpreter's head out of the barrel, soaked and barely sucking in a breath or two before Gator stuck him under again. Earwyn told Gator to halt when they came back up gasping and struggling from where Gator held him.
"What's your name?" Earwyn started with.
Barely an insult slipped out when Gator filled the lad's mouth with seawater. Earwyn said something about not doing it when their mouth is open. Released him coughing and hacking. Gagging and spitting out the water.
"Soren," he manages hoarsely. "Auer."
"Well, Soren," Earwyn grits, "Breathe."
Again down the hatch. Water splashed onto the floor, lapped against Gator's wrist. Soren was kicking and fighting now. Earwyn's hatred bubbled, restless and unsatisfied.
Above the water again, Soren was at war with steadying himself.
Down again. He rubbed his wrists raw from tugging against the rope. He wanted to claw and pull Gator off.
Up. Sputtering, three breaths, down. Up. Down. Earwyn sucked in a breath and told Gator to move. Soren moved half a step when Earwyn grabbed on. Pulled his hair. Sank him into the water. Held him there. Pulled him up. Put his ear next to Earwyn's mouth.
"Rich tradesman, yeah?" Earwyn whispered. "Never had to suffer a damn day in your life. Got a silver tongue for fun, yeah lad?"
"No⸺"
Under. Up. Coughing, choking.
Earwyn seethed. "Cut his fucking bonds, Gator."
"Not sure that's a good idea, Captain," Gator squinted at him. Earwyn didn't leave room for argument, and the slip of the knife letting the ropes holding Soren's hands together was crowded by Soren's lackluster effort to follow directions and breathe.
Down.
Hold.
Soren pushed on the barrel, gripped at Earwyn's arms.
Up.
Coughing, hacking, struggling, screaming out saltwater and sobbing.
Uchorian revolutionary pricks. His father at the stake. Down.
Up. The word No hovering over the space. Please,
Down,
He lost track.
Up.
"What are you?" Earwyn chewed back the hunger to make someone pay for it. He didn't give the Uchorian a chance to respond, just stuck him under the water level again and held. Gave him a breath. Down. One, down, one down, one down.
Nine fingers clawed and grasped to get loose.
Down. Hold.
"Card," Gator wavered. "You're gonna kill him. That's too long. Captain."
Earwyn yanked up the Uchorian. It cried. It fought. It coughed and it sputtered and it fought and it fought and it fought.
"I asked you what you fucking were, you irritant flower,"
"Please, please⸺"
Down. Hold. The Uchorian screams.
Up.
"SPARROW!" it cries out with guttural choking. Earwyn stops halfway through dunking him again. Watches his soaked hair tip into the seawater. "Sparrow, sparrow, sparrowbreed, please,"
All at once Earwyn's slave life kicks in. Beating at a conveyor for twenty-four hours straight, snapping pieces together until it became the most calming part of it all. Watching everyone who did it wrong and everyone who did it right getting meals and shelter and time to piss taken away because someone said so. That drowning, suffocating loneliness of knowing there was no one there willing to help you more than themselves.
A Uchorian sparrow.
Earwyn takes in one slow breath after another. Gator sucks in breath.
Three languages, morse code, invention, picking.
Soren was still sobbing when Earwyn dropped him. He was bent at the barrel, head hanging as he gagged and coughed and pleaded for it to stop stop stop.
Nine fingers.
Three languages.
Sparrows were cut limb by limb each time they were too useful. Interacting with one in public was like sentencing them to death. This one had left the country.
"Leave him with Rat. Tied up. Not too much. Just, enough." Earwyn's eyes dragged on Soren, collapsed and heaving and coughing and gagging.
"Captain?" Gator questioned.
"Hells, I'm gonna find Boar to help with this barrel. Dump it all back where it came from. Send word to Haze we're almost at the meeting point. Tell Snake to get his slithering ass over. You just tie him up, get Rat, and go get something to eat."
Gator nodded and dug through a crate just outside the cell.
Soren, gagging, hacking, shaking, choking on fistfuls of air. Crying. Water dripping out of his hair.
Earwyn went to go do something useful.

I always love putting post about Beetlejuice and Rabbit and Tigger on here. But right now, I want to go ahead and focus on a very serious thing that happened this past weekend. I woke up Saturday morning to the tragic news that tree members of the Southern Gospel group, The Nelons, were killed in a plane crash near the Wyoming state line. Let me go ahead and tell you the story about how I learned about the Nelons in recent years. I started listening to their music on Spotify, and ever since then, they would and always will be in my religious playlist along with a lot of other artists. When I first heard about them, they released a Country album called "The Americana Sessions," which became a seller in the Country Music market. Around that same time, they performed on The Grand Ole Opry for the very first time, along with Mason Ramsey, who was a newcomer in the country music scene. I also listened to the "Hymns: The A-capella Sessions," and one of my favorite albums, "Peace at Last." The last album they released is "Beautiful," which featured the 2 cover versions of the songs, "Rise Up (Lazurus Song)," and "The Goodness of God." The last song that they released recently as a single that I listened to on the radio during the Nelons tribute show this morning was called "There's A Hole in the Heart." Speaking about the Nelons tribute show, I listened to it this morning on the radio station called Singing News Radio. If y'all have never heard of Singing News Radio, it is a radio station that focuses a whole lot on Southern Gospel music. They did a musical tribute to the Nelons this morning with a song called “I’ll Love You with My Life.” During the show, the DJ's told stories about their success in Southern Gospel and how they got started among many other things. Speaking of humble beginnings, The Nelons were originally called The Rex Nelon Singers who was led by a man named Rex Nelon back in the 1970s. The first song they played by them was "Come Morning." As time went on, the Nelons had released a lot of albums over the years and won numerous awards. In 2016, they were inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. The three members of the Nelons who were killed in that plane crash were Jason Clark, his wife, Kelly Nelon Clark, and their daughter, Amber and her husband. The other daughter who was not on the plane with them was Autumn Streetman who went on another plane that made it to Seattle when she found out about her family. Before I finish talking about the crash, here's the last story. Several years ago, Amber auditioned for American Idol. At that time, Jennifer Lopez was one of the judges who loved her singing. But one day, Jennifer told her that Amber needed to be on the outward appearance and that her body and clothes needed to be more revealing like the ones in Hollywood. Amber then said, "Forget it!" and left American Idol for good to focus on the things of the Lord, and that is singing gospel music. Amber then released her first album under the name Amber Nelon Thompson. I listened to two songs from that album, which included the Sandi Patty classic, "Another Time, Another Place," and "Give It to Jesus." I listened to the tribute show for two hours today as I was getting ready to go run some errands. Between the Nelons' songs, they played a lot of other songs by other artists including Joseph Habedank, Mark Bishop, Gordon Mote, Triumphant Quartet, The Perrys, and the list goes on. When I go home from doing my work stuff, I will listen to the Nelons' version of "The Goodness of God." Now, I'm going to end about the crash. The Nelons were on their way to Seattle to perform at the Gaither Homecoming Cruise to Alaska when the horrific plane crash happened in Gillette near the Wyoming state line. Not only it was a sad day for Southern Gospel Music, Contemprary Christan Music, but for everyone all over the USA and the world.

Plane Crash Leaves 7 Dead, Including 3 Members Of Gospel Group The Nelons
ENTERTAINMENT: OCT 16 GMA Dove Awards NASHVILLE, TN – OCTOBER 16: The Nelons arrives on the red carpet at the 49th Annual Dove Awards on October 16, 2018 at Allen Arena in Nashville, TN.
Seven people, including three members of the family gospel group The Nelons, died in a plane crash in Wyoming on Friday afternoon.
The Gaither Management Group said in a statement on Saturday that Kelly Nelon Clark, her husband Jason Clark, and their daughter Amber Nelon Kistler were on their way to the Gaither Homecoming Cruise to Alaska when the accident happened.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the collision happened close to the northeastern town of Recluse, Wyoming.
Autumn Nelon Streetman, another member of the group and Kelly and Jason’s other daughter, released a statement following the tragedy.
“Prayers that have been extended already to me, my husband, Jamie, and our soon-to-be-born baby boy, as well as Jason’s parents, Dan and Linda Clark,” she thanked in a brief statement that she released. “We appreciate your continued prayers, love, and support as we navigate the coming days.”
The group’s last Instagram post was on Friday after they documented a pit stop in Nebraska.
“Gaither Homecoming Alaskan cruise. We are on our way,” Jason Clark said before panning the camera to show the rest of the group.
Melodi Hodges, pilot Larry Haynie and his wife Melissa, pilot Nathan Kistler, Amber’s husband, and an assistant were also killed in the crash.
It wasn’t immediately evident what caused the collision. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is looking into the incident.
An NTSB spokesperson stated that preliminary data suggests that a Pilatus PC-12/47E, a turboprop aircraft with a single engine, “impacted terrain following a reported autopilot issue during flight.”
The spokesperson stated that not much information is currently available and that the investigation is still in its early stages. A team from the agency was headed to the crash site.
The spokesperson also said that the team will start inspecting the aircraft as soon as they have access to the plane, which is located in a remote area.
The Nelons have recorded more than 35 albums and amassed over 20 Top 5 Southern Gospel radio singles for songs including “Thanks,” “Come Morning,” “We Shall Wear a Robe and Crown,” and “O for a Thousand Tongues.”
In 2016, they were inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
Throughout their career, they received a Grammy nomination for best Southern gospel album in 1991 and 35 nominations for the GMA Dove Awards. They most recently won a Dove Award for country/bluegrass/roots recorded song of the year in 2021 for “If God Pulled Back the Curtain.”

Jamie Streetman Exits The Perrys
To quote Aristotle. “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then is not an act but a habit”. In all things in life, I try my best to strive for excellence in each and every thing that I pursue. During this pursuit however, I have often times found that I am incapable of achieving excellence, without the help of others. Iron, truly does, sharpen iron. My time with The Perry’s has come to a…

Ida needed a fresh start. Her fiance--now ex-fiance--had been cheating on her for months. He was all she had known for five years, and she was so lost on her own. For the first time in five years, she was alone. She bought a little country cottage that sat back from the road. Vines creeped up the brick, but Ida liked how it looked. The brush outside the home, though, was brown and dead. No one had watered a plant here since 2015. Ida, though, was clueless as what to do to the outside of her home.
Work had run late. A disheveled Ida walked as fast as body would carry her up the driveway. She was supposed to be here ten minutes ago to meet the landscaper. Files were tucked under her arm, her hair was falling out of its ponytail, and her lab coat was hanging off one shoulder. She spotted him standing near the porch. “I’m so sorry! I lost track of time at work. I'm Ida. You must be Leonardo." As she reached out to shake his hand, the files under her arm shifted and fell to the concrete. "Oh, geez." Cheeks turned red in embarrassment before crouching to pick them up. "I promise I'm usually much more put together than this.
