i love story albums they're the best. My favourite one has a song abt a guy going on a revenge quest to kill the real estate agent that knowingly sold him land on top of a sinkhole that killed his wife and child, and it sounds like sinister surf rock. there's another song abt a different guy getting into a fist fight w his crushes fiancé so she'll like him and then he fucking dies. Lord Huron knows what's up

Guess who finally got their hands on Strange Trails on CD!!!! It's so nice to have it and it was in really good condition for a decent price which I haven't found before. It's so hard to find someone selling it for a reasonable price and now I have four Lord Huron albums on CD to listen to instead of just having to stream them

Every Record I Own - Day 787: Lord Huron Strange Trails
It's weird that I know so little about a record in my collection considering Lord Huron has songs with over a billion plays on Spotify. I guess when you spend all your time obsessing over krautrock obscurities, low-brow death metal, and Miles Davis records, you develop big blindspots in your musical knowledge.
This blindspot was first apparent when I moved to New York and took a job working the door at Webster Hall in Manhattan. I was touring a lot at the time and had a steady stream of writing jobs to supplement my income, but I still felt like I needed a job that got me out of the house. So I worked a few shifts a month at the 1400-person venue, mainly manning the guest list line. It was a decent job. I could pick my shifts. I liked most of my co-workers. And I could usually take off about halfway through the headliner's set and either head home or get a shift drink and watch the band.
It was an interesting job because the size of the venue meant that I was usually working shows for bigger indie artists or mainstream artists doing underplays. Either way, I often wound up working shows for artists I'd never heard of. I remember the Lord Huron show being sold out in advance, which was weird to me because they were completely off my radar. Around the same time, Hot Water Music and Torche---two bands that were a fairly big deal in my world---played the same room to half as many people. It made no sense to me. Being unfamiliar with Lord Huron, and assuming it was some sort of pop / electronic / hip hop mashup, I took off after my shift without catching any of their set.
Later that year, my older brother gave me this copy of Strange Trails. I could've kicked myself for not having checked out their set. Lord Huron plays a reverb-drenched brand of vintage rock n' roll laced with country and folk elements. This kind of stuff is a bit of a minefield for me... if it's too kitschy it feels shallow, if it's too earnest it gets cringey. But Lord Huron does a good job of summoning a nostalgic, dusty vibe without injecting too much overbearing drama. Considering that the band name suggests a central character in their sound, it's interesting that the overall sound of Lord Huron is that of a band where every component sits at a similar level in the mix, meaning the vocals come across as more of a texture than a focal point.
I love a lot of Americana / roots rock / singer-songwriter stuff where the singer adds a whole new depth and dimension to the music, but considering that Lord Huron came out at a time where there was no shortage of indie folk stuff with over-enunciating singers in old-timey garb out there, I appreciate that Strange Trails is a uniquely impersonal album. I don't feel like it's a window into an artist's soul as much as I feel like it's a conjuring of a certain aura---a lonesome bygone sound made by anonymous troubadours. And maybe the reason I've done so little further investigating into the band is because I worry that knowing anything more about Lord Huron or probing any deeper into their catalog will undermine that sense of mystery.

I LOVE LOUISA it's such a good song ugh (the other songs are good too I just saw louisa and got excited)
Right??? I got into Lord Huron more towards the end of this year (they were my top artist), and all their albums are top notch (especially strange trails my beloved) but I LOVE Louisa the most, it's such a beautiful song!
I have to listen to it twice every time so I can sing the chorus part and then the "Louisas" during the chorus

Sometimes its the little shit that hits the weirdest. My pen preference—developed as soon as I was allowed to use pens— has suddenly swapped from being .7 to .5??? I’m back to actively reading low key abandoned WIPs in fanfic for the first time since I was 16 because frankly life is bad and unstable and unsatisfying and apparently I’m now bringing that into my reading habits??? AND. I have bought a fucking physical CD which I had to rip onto my computer before I could put it on my phone because it does not come in any online digital format. It came in the traditional hard plastic case with liner notes and everything! I mean I obviously still bought it online. I did not go into a physical store and buy it with cash since I haven’t actually traveled back in time. But still. Holding a brand new CD in my hands was extremely strange and disorienting feeling.
#it was the reprint of the stars fall home album by seanan mcguire#its very charming#i obviously love downhome aphrodite and still catch the tide#and follow me down feels very will and chester#but i don't think its actually going to replace#strange trails by lord huron as the album i obsessively listen to front to back nonstop#i've listened to that shit like 50 times in the last three or four weeks#at least#somehow its just#my exact mood#and hey that one is actually available to stream and buy digitally and is not already sold out for the foreseeable future

‘Vide Noir’: the movie
I’ve known for a while now that Lord Huron’s front Bub had written the script and music for a feature-length movie called “Vide Noir.” In fact, I knew that he hired a director, etc. and that the movie was in the can.
It was supposed to come out in star-crossed 2020 - just two years after the release of the record of the same name - but, as you know, very little went according to plan that year.
A few days ago I learned, through a Facebook feed (pictured above), that “Vide Noir” is, indeed, alive and that, according to the FB feed, it will be available for streaming around Nov. 8, although that date appears to be a little squishy.
As for the plot ...
“Following his missing fiancee Lee across the country to a bustling, neon-lit city, Buck’s only plan is to search every cocktail bar, lounge and club to find her. What follows is a series of dreamlike nighttime encounters throughout increasingly strange places. Buck’s search eventually leads to the trail of a new drug that removes the barriers of death, time and space ... and the dangerous man behind it all.”
That’s our boy.

This is a super weird question but what bodies of water do specific Lord Huron albums/songs remind you of? I was thinking about Long Lost and how there's a lot of water imagery and how the sound kind of glides so beautifully and ebbs and flows like waves a little bit??
omg okay right off the bat strange trails gives me glacial lake vibes. like calm and clear water. idk something about way out there and the night we met ???
lonesome dreams gives me- well- great lakes vibes. that beach-but not ocean vibe ???
vide noir gives me river vibes but like- a river at night that’s illuminated only by the full moon.
and long lost… hmm. i’m so used to seeing long lost as a land album let me think. i guess the sea?? bc ur right the gliding of like- waves and also at sea the song. but also also it’s just such a mountains album for me that i’m inclined to add mountain stream. yeah i’ll add that too alsjdkfkdk

Ivar x Reader
Word count: 1405 (wtf what’s going on with me)
Summary: You know Ivar, who is your husband now, since childhood. You love him but he changed and there is his Brother who his on your mind.
Warnings: angst.. yes, kind of love triangle, betrayal (mentioned), murder
a/n: Well idk what to say. I have never been a fan of writing angst. Reading it is nice but I could never imagine that I would write it myself. That English is not my first language is one of the reasons why it’s difficult to express the feelings right.. anyway I hope you like it! I recommend to listen to the song 👆🏼 it has given me the right mood to write this :)
I would appreciate it if you tell me what you think!
I‘ll add the keep reading tomorrow. I‘m on my phone rn 🙃
The stars looked beautiful. Thousands of the little lights blinking at the dark sky. It was so beautiful you didn’t want to close your eyes.
It was a peaceful night, this wasn’t usual you had to admit.
Not that far from you, you could hear people talking, men growling and laughing. There was a feast tonight in the great hall in Kattegat. You were there for a while, but decided to sneak out because you felt uncomfortable.
The presence of your husband Ivar was not your favorite these days. To be honest you weren’t so sure if he ever was a good company.
Everyone in Kattegat knew what happened to his first wife that made it even more complicated for you.
It was like you could read his mind when you were watching him. You knew Freydis was the love of his life, you could see it in the way he looked at her. The shining in his eyes as he announced that he would marry her and the time when Freydis was pregnant.
The scene of her lying dead on the bed was burned in your brain.
You weren’t dumb, that Ivar married you was only to fill the whole. He always appreciated you, but this wasn’t love. Not in that way.
You knew Ivar since you both were children, he was always a silent child. Silent but angry.
A few years from now you spend a lot of time together. Somedays you were in the woods and train your fighting skills or you lay the whole day or night at the same place where you were now. While watching the sky he talked about his ambitions to be as famous as his father, you talked about your dreams for the future.
You were always there for him before his father came back, before he went to England.
But then he changed so much and there was a huge desire inside you that wanted the old careless Ivar back. The one you loved, because that's what you were feeling.
Love
- Every time when you looked at him and it hurt to know he didn’t love you back.
How much did you wish that your feelings weren’t so strong, because even he noticed that you weren’t happy. He noticed that he was the reason why you were sad.
On the other hand there was Hvitserk, Ivars older brother.
He was always the caring one, you both liked each other very much ever since. He always stood by you, took care of you when Ivar was mad at you.
Hvitserk was the reason why you sometimes regretted that you married Ivar and you hated yourself for thinking that way. But it wasn’t possible to ignore the uprising heartbeat in your chest when he was near you.
“He would never find out y/n. I know you want it as well. Just one time, let me show you how real love looks like.”
Hvitserk’ s eyes showed pure desperation under your stern look.
“Hvitserk shut your mouth. I’m married to Ivar, so I belong to him. You missed your chance long ago.”
He shakes his head slowly, both hands on your thighs as he went down on his knees in front of you.
“But he doesn’t love you! He’s still in love Freydis, and he killed her. Please… Just imagine what he could do to you…”
His voice died while he rested his head in your lap.
You knew he was right and there was something inside you that wanted to know how it would feel to be with Hvitserk.
Your heart was beating heavily against your rib cage and you were not far away from giving in.
For a moment you closed your eyes to hold back the tears.
“I can’t Hvitserk. I’m sorry.”
You mumble as you stand up and watch him fall back.
Without a word you run out of the room, run away from the man where you know he was right for you.
The memories of this what happened only a few hours ago let you sigh loudly. Unlike Hvitserk you could never betray Ivar. You could never be that heartless.
You had to forget this, forget Hvitserk and be a good wife to Ivar.
Still staring at the sky you noticed how the grass under your body was cooling down your body and left your clothes wet, so you decided to go back.
Before you could stand up you felt somebody next to you.
“What a beautiful night.”
Shivers running down your body as you recognized the voice of your husband.
Your face turned to the side to face him, he had a light smile on his face. In one hand he played with a knife as he watched the night sky.
“How did you find me?”
His smile grows as he hears your uncertain voice and a pain going through your chest. How you missed this side of Ivar. Now he was like a few years ago, looking careless and satisfied.
You could punch yourself for the things you thought before.
“You are always here when you want to be alone.”
He remembered it, how many times he found you here. You didn’t respond, just watch his face in the small light of the moon.
“Why are you crying?”
You didn’t notice the tears on your cheeks before. Hastily you whipped them away with the sleeve of your dress.
“I don’t know.” A shaky laughter slipped out of your mouth, but he raised his eyebrows.
“Someone told me my dear brother was in your rooms in the afternoon.”
His voice was now threatening and you looked away. Someone was there when you talked to Hvitserk hours ago. You knew it.. you thought you heard someone walk away but ignored it then.
The upbuilding fear lets more and more tears stream out of your eyes. Through your blurred view you saw Ivar’s face now close to your face.
“What did he want?”
His lips lightly touching the sensitive skin on your ear as he whispered.
“Nothing, I’m serious Ivar. You know we’re friends. That’s all. He just wanted to talk.”
Unfortunately your voice was too low and it didn’t sound convincing.
“Don’t lie to me.”
His fingers on your chin forcing you to look him in the eyes. He inspected your face with his piercing blue eyes, his thumb whipping away some tears.
“It’s the truth Ivar. I swear by the gods nothing happened. He is just a friend, and your brother. There would never-“
“But he wants you!”
His hand pushed your face away and a little scream escaped your mouth as you fell on your back.
“I know exactly what you talked! He wants to be with you!”
You eyed the knife in his hand before you crawled back without losing eye contact.
“But that’s what he’s feeling! I would never… I could never be with him! I’m your wife Ivar!”
Loud sobs filling the silence.
“Please… Ivar whatever Hvitserk wants, I don’t care… I love you.”
His reaction was laughter, against all expectations.
“And that’s the problem y/n.”
With one fast movement he was over you.
Your head hit the earth again and for a moment you couldn’t breathe.
“I love you too y/n, but I can’t lose you. Not to my brother… I choose the way how I lose you.”
The knife in his hand scratches the skin on your throat. You tried to fight the tears by blinking fast to have a clear view but it didn’t work.
“Ivar…”
His eyes showed pain, the battle inside of him. But you knew him too well to know that he already made his choice.
“I’m sorry y/n. I wish it would have not been like this.”
Once more you wished he would change his mind, returning to the old Ivar.
You could still see him, even as the knife in his hand stabs inside your chest and his eyes grew wide in shock.
Your breath slowed down your eyes locked with his.
Even that he was the one who was causing your death you wanted to take him in your arms and tell him that everything will be fine.
That everything will be like years ago when the both of you were happy.
He went out of your sight and the stars came back in your view.
They were still beautiful.
What a beautiful night.

Lord Huron song on the rise
It was just about a year ago that Lord Huron’s “The Night We Me,” from the band’s 2015 album, “Strange Trails”, made Spotify’s Billions Club, meaning that the song had been streamed from Spotify 1 billion times
The exact number was 1,001,114,298.
I check the list every so often to see where the “The Night We Met” is, relative to the others on the list. As of today, it’s No. 64 out of a total 400 songs.
You can see the whole list by clicking on the photo.

Triple Platinum for Lord Huron
LH’s “The Night We Met” (from the “Strange Trails” album) has been certified Triple Platinum by the RIAA ( the Recording Industry Association of America).
Of course we didn’t hear this from LH’s front man, who’s characteristically shy about these kind of things. We heard it from Jim Barry, father of Mark Barry, LH’s drummer extraordinaire. Jim even did the math for us:
“Gold = 500,000, Platinum = 1 million. Triple platinum = 3 million.
“Since we can now stream music digitally ... the RIAA counts 150 streams of a song as just one sale. So, it would take 450,000,000 streams of a song to earn a triple platinum record.”
However, the Triple Platinum designation is a combination of streams and actual sales.
Jim wrote: “So, maybe ‘The Night We Met’ has been credited with (as an example) 1 million purchased downloads plus 300 million streams ... which would equal exactly 3 million.”
Notice that the commemorative plaque in the photo belongs to Jm and Linda Barry. I’m confident the one for Sharon and me is in the mail.
As Jim wrote: “We’re going to need a bigger wall.”

A fine reflection
The commemorative multi-platinum display that Lord Huron’s front man promised was on the way arrived at our house via UPS a few days ago and here’s what it looks like ... sort of.
Giving all those reflective surfaces, it’s darn near impossible to get a decent photo of it. The funny thing is that Benjamin asked me to send him a picture of it, which, I assume, means that he hadn’t received his copy yet.
As the fine print says, “multi-platinum” means that certified sales/streams of LH’s song “The Night We Met,” from the band’s second album, “Strange Trails,” have topped 2 million.

Special delivery
A few days ago Sharon and I got a surprise package - another “Gold Record” to go along with the one we received for the Lord Huron song, “The Night We Met,” from the “Strange Trails” album
And all we did to deserve it was ... well, I don’t quite know. Nurture, i guess.
LH’s “Ends of the Earth” - from the “Lonesome Dreams” album - reached that magic number of 500,000 sales/streams.
LH’s front man tells us that another package, or two, may land on our doorstep in the near future.
